Day depreciation

Hi Experts,
I am created one asset with cap.date is 10.02.2009 and dep.start date is 10.02.2009. i posted acquistion on 10.02.2009 through f-90. but when i see the asset values its showing the depreciation for the month of feb is 28 days (full month), but my requirement is 28-10=18 days depreciation.  please guide me which steps i have to do in customizing.
regards,
Gopi.P

Hi Gopi,
To get this, one customization is required.  While creating "Depreciation Key" in AFAMA, select "Depreciation to the day" check box(4th item).  With this system will consider days while calculating Depreciation.
If you have doubts, please come back I will give you further details.

  • 180 days depreciation as per IT act

    Hi,
I want to post 180 days depreciation ( Ours FSV is AP to Mar, if i acquire asset from Apr to Sep it should calculate full year depreciation and if i purchase after, it should calculate depreciation for 180 days as per IT Act, for that i've made setting in Period control, i've taken IN1 in period control, but when i create group asset and if i select the IT depreciation key, system is throwing error message, "E003 SYST: Period 000 is not valid in financial year variant", if please suggest me the possible errors behind it.
    Regards,
    Sudheer

    Hi Sudheer,
This 180 days calculation can be done for Income tax depreciation if you provide the below details in the income tax related depreciation key
    Base method: IND1
Declining Balance method: I01 to .... (whatever is available in F4 option based on rates you select)
    Period control: IN1
Multi level method: M1 to M9 as provided by standard SAP
    Class: 2 Declining balance depreciation
    Change method: No automatic changeover
Multiple shift: 2 no effect on depreciation and useful life
Scrap value: 3 cut off value is ignored
    shutdown: No
If you follow the above details in the depreciation key, then you will get that 180 days calculation. ie., from 1st april to 30th september if you capitalise any asset, your system will calculate full depreciation and from 1st october to 31st march if you capitalise any asset, you system will calculate 180 days depreciation.
Hope this helps. Assign points if useful

    Hi,
sorry. as per config settings 366 days (feb we have given 29 days default) but system want to calculate 366 days only in 2009 fiscal year not in 2008 fiscal year. becuase it is 365 days only. so system need to calculate 365 days in 2008 fiscal year. how to achieve this?

    Hi All,
In indian scenario for plant and machinery straight line depreciation, my SLM rate is 4.75%
When i maintained the shift factor as 2 and my variable portion as 56.2105 and got 7.42 as the depreciation which is correct
But when i maintained shift factor as 3 and my variable portion as 58.8421, in a subsequent month, my depreciation is getting calculated as 10.465 where as it should be 10.34.
In my understanding the system calculates the depreciation per interval given as below
Depreciation rate*fixed portion + Depreciation rate * variable portion?

    Dear All,
As requested by our client we need to configure depreciation as per IT act.We are using fiscal year variant K4(Oct to Sept) in our company code but as per specification from client we need to use fiscal year variant (April to March) for reporting purpose as per IT act. While posting for asset acquire for less then 180 days asset is not coming in display as per Indian Income tax report(J1IDISPBLK - Display Transaction Details at Asset Level).
We also try to use V3 (fiscal year variant as maintained for Indian IT act with period control "IT").But while putting V3(Fsv) for Depreciation area 15 (Financial Accounting (New) > Asset Accounting > Valuation > Fiscal Year > Fiscal Year Variants) got error that Fiscal year should be same as of company code.In this case we are not able to configure it.Kindly advice if anybody has configured this.

  • Calculation of Depreciation for Tax for India

    Hi
In India, there is a requirement that the Depreciation for Income Tax should be calculated based on the date of Acquisition. If an asset has been acquired before or on completion of 180 days of a Financial Year, than the calculation of Depreciation is allowed for full year. If the asset has been acquired after 180 days , depreciation is allowed only for 180 days. Hence for an asset acquired on 25/09/2009, system should allow calculation of depreciation from 01/04/2009, assuming that the fiscal year starts from 01/04/2009 and ends on 31/03/2009. However, if the asset is acquired on 07/10/2009, the system should allow depreciation from 01/10/2009. Sap has delivered standard depreciation keys for the same in reference chart of depreciation for India 0IN.
But if the asset has been acquired on 01/10/2009, still the asset has to be depreciated from 01/04/2009, since the asset has been acquired for less than 180 days into the fiscal year. The system is working fine for asset capitalized on 25/09/2009 and 07/10/2009. But we are not able to map the same if asset is capitalized on 01/10/2009 and 02/10/2009. For these two dates, the depreciation should start from 01/04/2009.
I have checked the period control setting and calender assignments and everything seems to be in place. How can we tackle the issue?
    Regards
    Sanil K Bhandari

    Hi
The same has been resolved.I Created a new assignment in Period Control IT for my fiscal year variant. For month 10, i added a new line item with no of days as 2 in addition to no of days as 31 for month 10.

  • Indian Income Tax Depreciation Calculation

    Hi
Can any of you please explain/tell me where are the exact SAP configuration settings for the calculation of depreciation calculation as per Indian Income Tax Act by meeting below requirements as per Section 32 of Indian Income Tax Act:
    1. If the Asset is being purchased and used in a Financial Year for 180 Days or below 180 Days  -  Depreciation has to be calculated 50% of Annual Depreciation.
2.If the Asset is being purchased and used in a Financial Year for more than  180 Days   -  Depreciation has to be calculated 100% of Annual Depreciation.
    Waiting for your valuable reply.
    Thanks and Regards
    P.V.S.R.Gupta

But if I follow your suggestion of taking Period Control Method 04, it would calculate 1/2 Year Depreciaton only
No.  If the asset is in use for >180 days, then it's acquisition date must therefore occur in periods 1-6 which will set the depreciation start date to the beginning of the year.  This will result in a full year's worth of depreciation.
If the asset is in use for <180 days then the start date is set to mid year which results in only 6 months worth of depreciation to be posted.
All of this can be adjusted per your FYV and on a yearly basis if the FYV is year dependent in the asset period control calendar assignments table.
I'll be the first to admit that I don't know the statutory requirements of India but I know how FI-AA works and can't think of an alternative solution for you.

  • Tax depreciation calculation - India

    Hi,
For calculating Tax depreciation for India, we use group assets in asset master (dep area 15).
SAP standard report J1IQ is obsolete and can not be used.
How to calculate tax depreciation for India.
Requirement for India tax depreciation is :
An asset is put to use  < 180 days, depreciation will be 50% of the depreciation rate for that asset (say dep rate is 15%, depreciation will be 7.5% of the asset value.
If asset is put to use > 180 days, depreciation will be 100% of the depreciation rate for that asset (say dep rate is 15%, depreciation will be 15% of the asset value).
    J1IQ is obsolete.
Most of the consultants are facing this problem.
    What is the solution???????????

    Dear Nagesha,
Please note that J1INQ is NOT in use and this report has been withdrawn by SAP.
Please review the below note in this reference.

    Dear Expert
As per my post in SCN Forum, one of the expert suggest me to implement day wise depreciation calculation method, as per this method system treat -Master data- depreciation area- period, this period will act like day, meant to say (1-12) will change to(1-365 ), but after doing all the changes system not allowed me to enter 16 in days option
Complete depreciation with in 15 days
    TROWING BELOW ERROR MESSAGE
More useful life periods than the maximum number of periods.
    Message no. AA171
    Diagnosis
You have defined the useful life with 016 periods. The number of periods is greater than 012, the number of periods allowed for this fiscal year version.
    Procedure
Correct the number of periods. It must be less than 012.
Note that you must enter the useful life as a combination of years and periods.  When the fiscal year uses normal periods, the entry for a 5 year useful life would be:
5 years, 0 periods and not
    60 periods .

  • Fixed assets depreciation run

    Hello experts
When we run the depreciation the amount is not even and based on the number of days in a month...
For example the month of 31 days depreciation is higher thatn a month with 30 days...
It seems that there should be a set up where we can have even depreciation all year long
    Do you know where ?
    Thank you

  • FR straight-line depr by day & decl-balance by period & derived area

    Hi experts,
In ECC6 for a French company, we have configured an asset class as following:
    - depreciation area 01 - using a depreciation key with straight-line depreciation to the day
    - depreciation area 02 - using a depreciation key with declining-balance by period
    - depreciation area 03 - derived area 02-01 ; as we do not want to have any depreciation calculated in area 03 if accumulated depreciation in area 01 is higher than depreciation area 02, we have configured area 03 with only negative net book value accepted.
These settings comply with legal requirements in France.
This configuration was working in R/3 versions, but does not work anymore in ECC6. We are blocked by the message AA087 "The depreciation area 03 cannot be processed, because it was not transferred to the function module for breaking down the derived depreciation area." We can resolve this by setting the indicator "Area for reporting purposes only" on depreciation area 03 but then this calculates depreciation regardless on whether accumulated depreciation in area 01 is less or more than accumulated depreciation in area 02.
I suppose this problem must have been met in France several times since ECC6 is available but I could not find any discussion or OSS note on this. I am therefore looking for someone who has already faced this issue and has found a configuration setting, an OSS note or an acceptable workaround.
    Many thanks.
    Regards,
    Xavier

    Hi Bernhard,
OSS note 1161265 enables me to do what I wanted.
I have actually configured 5 areas:
01- IFRS - straight line depreciation by period
02- Local book accounting - straight line depreciation by day
    03- 2-1
04- Local tax depreciation - declining-balance by period
    05- 4-2
I have assigned the area usage 1 to area 03 and the area usage 2 to area 05. Area 03 is configured as accepting any net book value and posting, area 05 as only accepting negative net book value and is statistical.
I don't have message AA 087 any more when creating the asset. And if area 05 has a NBV positive, then depreciation in area 04 is adjusted and nothing is therefore calculated in area 05.
So it seems to work. Thanks!
    Regards,
    Xavier

  • Mid Month Close - Financial Close

    Hello
I would like to ask the experts on the activities we need to perform for a mid-month close during a fiscal year (A month which is not a normal fiscal month end) . For example, if a company is being sold in the middle of the month and they need to generate the financial statements as of that date (sales, expenses, margins etc) what all do we need to do. What are the limitations ?
Please share your experiences. List of activities and steps that need to be done would be really appreciated.
    Thank you for your time.

    Hello Rahul,
I thought of sharing some inputs on this scenario, from an old friend.
Some aspects/limitations which could be highlighted:
    1. Splitting the period into two periods.
    2. Depreciation Posting would be calculated for the entire month. 15 days depreciation will have to be adjusted manually.
    3. How the Business manages the balance carry forward for the respective month, is another challenge.
    4. Google for sap msg fgv618
    Hope this is helpful.
