DB creation issues in RAC environment

Hi All,
I Installed Oracle 11g R2 RAC on VM.
I followed steps mentioned in below
[http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/OracleDB11gR2RACInstallationOnOEL5UsingVMwareServer2.php|http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/OracleDB11gR2RACInstallationOnOEL5UsingVMwareServer2.php]
At the time of DB creation in one node DB creation successful in another node DB creation failed.
I reinstalled everything fresh but still I am facing issue.
Thanks in advance.
Your help really appreciated.

  • Create database on RAC environment - DBCA hangs on clone database creation

    Hi, friends!
    I have two vm´s (vmware 2) with OEL 5 installed.
    I´ve installed OGI and database software sucessfully. So, my crs stack is working fine in both two nodes.
    However, when i use DBCA to create a database in this RAC environment, it hangs when it gets on "clone database creation", about 52% of the progress bar.
    My DBCA logs don´t point any error out. It just hangs on..
    I wait about 4 hours and it doesn´t move on.
    I searched and found many cases like that, including here in OTN. But it seems nobody could find a resolution to this issue.
    Is there any bug about OEL 5 and database 11gR2??
    More details:
    I apllied the patch "p8670579_112010_LINUX" on both OGI installation (before root.sh) and databae software install (also before root.sh).
    Everything worked fine.
    Sorry for the grammar errors.

    you can trace dbca, and you can found witch step is occurs problem.
    can you paste here last 15-20 sentence of dbca trace file?

  • Analyze job very slow in RAC environment

    Hi,

    hi,
    This database is used for query purpose mainly.
    we do huge data load during weekend into one of the table.
    This table is then exchange with one of the partition of a huge partitioned table.
    after that analyze job runs on this partitioned table.
    The command we use for analyze is given below:
    DBMS_STATS.GATHER_SCHEMA_STATS
    ownname => '<owner_name>'
    ,estimate_percent => 05
    ,cascade => true
    ,degree => 4

  • Discussion Forum Portlet on RAC Environment

    Hi
    I have installed Discussion Forum Portlet but I am seeing the following error intermittently:
    Unable to perform the operation: JBO-26041: Failed to post data to database during "Insert": SQL Statement "BEGIN INSERT INTO MESSAGE_CLOB(ID,AUTHOR_ID,MESSAGE_DATE,CONTENT,THREAD_ID) VALUES (:1,:2,:3,:4,:5) RETURNING ID INTO :6; END;".
    I think the problem is because we have our database in a RAC environment where our Portal schema is. I am not sure how to specify the same details in the bc4j.xcfg file. The following are the details that I have in the bc4j.xcfg:
    <ConnectionDefinition name="df">
    <ENTRY name="JDBC_PORT" value="1521"/>
    <ENTRY name="ConnectionType" value="JDBC"/>
    <ENTRY name="HOSTNAME" value="hamcheese.corp.ihop.com"/>

    <ENTRY name="JdbcDriver" value="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"/>
    <ENTRY name="ORACLE_JDBC_TYPE" value="thin"/>
    </ConnectionDefinition>
    How can I specify the two hostnames in this file?
    Please let me know.
    Thanks
    Hari

    Hi Hari,
    I am not sure how this would work, but i think you could try posting the issue on the Database / JDBC forums, specifying the issue as
    How to specify connect details for a RAC m/c in the Datasource file.
    You might get some answers there.

  • Steps to do switchover / switchback in RAC environment

    Hi folks,
    I m having setup with 2 node RAC primary and 2 node RAC Dataguard on 10.2.0.4.0. Dataguard setup is working fine. Dataguard is setup with Standby Redo log group with managed recovery. There is no problem with transferring archives & applying on standby.
    Now I want to do Switchover/Switchback between Primary and Standby for RAC. I am familiar with Single instance Switchover and Switchback but never did RAC environment Switchover/Switchback. Can anybody please elaborate steps or suggest any link for me??
    regards,
    manish

    Hi Guys,
    Today I performed RAC Switchover / Switchback for 2 Node Primary with 2 Node Standby on OEL. I expected some issues, but it was totally smooth. Giving you steps for the same, so it will be useful to you. Even this would be my first contribution to Oracle Forums.
    DB Name     DB Unique Name     Host Name     Instance Name
    live     live     linux1     live1
    live     live     linux2     live2
    live     livestdby     linux3     livestdby1
    live     livestdby     linux4     livestdby2
    Verify that each database is properly configured for the role it is about to assume and the standby database is in mounted state.
    (Verify all Dataguard parameters on each node for Primary & Standby)
    Like,
    Log_archive_dest_1
    Log_archive_dest_2
    Log_archive_dest_state_1
    Log_archive_dest_state_2
    Fal_client
    Fal_server
    Local_listener
    Remote_listener
    Standby_archive_Dest
    Standby_archive_management
    service_names
    db_unique_name
    instance_name
    db_file_name_convert
    log_file_name_convert
    Verify that both Primary RAC & Dataguard RAC are functioning properly and both are in Sync
    On Primary,
    Select thread#,max(sequence#) from v$archived_log group by thread#;
    On Standby,
    Select thread#,max(sequence#) from v$log_history group by thread#;
    Before performing a switchover from a RAC primary shut down all but one primary instance (they can be restarted after the switchover has completed).
    ./srvctl stop instance –d live –i live1
    Before performing a switchover or a failover to a RAC standby shut down all but one standby instance (they can be restarted after the role transition has completed).
    ./srvctl stop instance –d live –i livestdby1
    On the primary database initiate the switchover:
    alter database commit to switchover to physical standby with session shutdown;
    Shutdown former Primary database & Startup in Mount State.
    Shut immediate;
    Startup mount;
    select name,db_unique_name, log_mode,open_mode,controlfile_type,switchover_status,database_role from v$database;
    Make log_Archive_Dest_state_2 to DEFER
    alter system set log_archive_dest_state_2='DEFER' sid='*';
    On the (old) standby database,
    select name,log_mode,open_mode,controlfile_type,switchover_status,database_role from v$database;
    On the (old) standby database switch to new primary role:
    alter database commit to switchover to primary;
    shut immediate;
    startup;
    On new Primary database,
    select name,log_mode,open_mode,controlfile_type,switchover_status,database_role from v$database;
    Make log_Archive_Dest_state_2 to ENABLE
    alter system set log_archive_dest_state_2='ENABLE' sid='*';
    Add tempfiles in New Primary database.
    Do some archivelog switches on new primary database & verify that archives are getting transferred to Standby database.
    On new primary,
    select error from v$archive_Dest_status;
    select max(sequence#) from v$archived_log;
    On new Standby, Start Redo Apply
    alter database recover managed standby database using current logfile disconnect;
    Select max(sequence#) from v$log_history; (should be matching with Primary)
    Now Start RAC databases services (both Primary – in open & Standby – in mount)
    On new Primary Server.
    ./srvctl start instance –d live –i livestdby2
    Verify using ./crs_stat –t
    Check that database is opened in R/W mode.
    On new Standby Server.
    ./srvctl start instance –d live –i live2 –o mount
    Now add TAF services on new Primary (former Standby) Server.
    By Command Prompt,
    ./srvctl add service -d live -s srvc_livestdby -r livestdby1,livestdby2 -P BASIC
    OR
    By GUI,
    dbca -> Oracle Read Application Cluster database -> Service Management -> select database -> add services, details (Preferred / Available), TAF Policy (Basic / Preconnect) - > Finish
    Start the services,
    ./srvctl start service -d live
    Verify the same,
    ./crs_stat -t
    Perform TAF testing, to make sure Load Balancing & Failover.
    regards,
    manish

  • Transaction Recovery within an Oracle RAC environment

    Good evening everyone.
    I need some help with Oracle 11gR1 RAC transaction-level recovery issues. Here's the scenario.
    We have a three(3) node RAC Cluster running Oracle 11g R1. The Web UI portion of the application connects through WLS 9.2.3 with connection pooling set. We also have a command-line/SQL*Developer component that uses a TNSNAMES file that allows for both failover and load balancing. Within either the UI or the command line portion of the application, a user can run a process by which invokes one or more PL/SQL Packages to be invoked. The exact location of the physical to the database is dependent on which server is chosen from either the connection pooling or the TNSNAMES.ORA Load Balancing option.
    In the normal world, the process executes and all is good. The status of the execution of this process is updated by the Packages once completed. The problem we are encountering is when an Oracle Instance fails. Here's where I need some help. For Application-level (Transaction Level) recovery, the database instances are first recovered by the database background proccesses and then Users must determine which processes were in flight and either re-execute them (if restart processing is part of the process) or remove any changes and restart from scratch. Given that the database instance does not record which processes are "in flight" it is the responsibility of the application to perform its own recovery processing. Is this still true?
    If an instance fails, are "in flight" transactions/connections moved to other instances in the Grid/RAC environment? I don't think this is possible but I don't remember if this was accomplished through a combination of Application and Database Server features that provide feedback between each other. How is the underlying application notified of the change if such an issue occurs? I remember something similar to this in older versions of Oracle but I cannot remember what it was callled.
    Any help or guidance would be great as our client is being extremely difficult in pressing this issue.
    Thanks in advance

    You have not indicated whether you are using TAF or FCF ... that would be the first place to start.
    My recommendation would be to let Oracle roll back the database changes and have the application resubmit the most recent work.
    If the application knows what it did since the last "COMMIT" then you should be fine with the possible exception of variables stored
    in packages. Depending on packages retaining values is an issue best solved with PRAGMA SERIALLY_REUSABLE ... in other words
    not using the retention feature.

  • Job Chain in RAC Environment

    Hi,
    i've a job chain defined in a RAC environment.
    I need that all the steps of my chain are performed on the same instance.
    How can i do this?
    Now stepA run on the instance 1 and stepB run on the instance 2.
    Thanks.

    Again, If it is a file system write issue, use ACFS (11.2.0.x) to create a shared file system that all nodes can see. What are you using to delete/create these files? A shell script?
    1) create an ACFS file system of sufficient size to handle your data
    2) mkdir /some/acfs/location
    3) using sqlplus create a database directory " create directory foo as '/some/acfs/location' "
    4) put the file in this location
    5) use UTL_FILE to delete AND create the file (see fremove() - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/appdev.112/e10577/u_file.htm)

  • Configuring our RAC environment Questions

    The environment consists of Sun Solaris 10, Veritas, and 10g RAC:
    Questions:
    I need to know the settings and configuration of the entire software stack that will be the foundation of the oracle RAC environment....Network configurations, settings and requirements for any networks including the rac network between servers
    How to set up the solaris 10k structures: what goes into the global zones, the containers, the resource groups, RBAC roles, SMF configuration, schedulers?
    Can we use zfs, and if so, what configuration, and what settings?
    In addition, these questions I need answers to:
    What I am looking for is:
    -- special hardware configuration issues, in particular the server rac interconnect. Do we need a hub, switch or crossover cables configured how.
    -- Operating System versions and configuration. If it is Solaris 10, then there are more specific requirements: how to handle smf, containers, kernel settings, IPMP, NTP, RBAC, SSH, etc.
    -- Disk layout on SAN, including a design for growth several years out: what are the file systems with the most contention, most use, command tag depth issues etc. (can send my questionnaire)
    -- Configuration settings\ best practices for Foundation suite for RAC and Volume manager
    -- How to test and Tune the Foundation suite settings for thru-put optimization. I can provide stats from the server and the san, but how do we coordinate that with the database.
    -- How to test RAC failover -- what items will be monitored for failover that need to be considered from the server perspective.
    -- How to test data guard failures and failover -- does system administration have to be prepared to help out at all?
    -- How to configure Netbackup --- backups

    Answering all these questions accurately and correctly for you implementation might be a bit much for a forum posting.
    First I'd recommend accessing the Oracle documentation on otn.oracle.com. This should get you the basics about what is supported for the environment your looking to set up, and go a long way to answering your detailed questions.
    Then I'd break this down into smaller sets of specific questions and try and get the RAC axters on the RAC forum to help out.
    See: Community Discussion Forums » Grid Computing » Real Application Clusters
    Finally Oracle Support via Metalink should be able to fill in any gaps int he documentation.
    Good luck on your project,
    Tony

    Servers that will be used as RAC nodes. E.g. x86_64 servers such as those from Oracle, HP, IBM, etc.
    Shared storage. This can be a SAN (ala EMC style). Or a storage servers from a number of vendors (including Oracle, HP and others). You can also build your own storage server. Use a x86_64 chassis that supports a large number of drive bays (typically 24+), install Linux on it, and use iSCSI (SCSI over IP) to share the chassis disks over IP with RAC servers. Part of the decision here is what to use as I/O fabric layer. Fibre channel (can be very expensive)? Infiniband SRP? Ethernet (can be very slow)?
    Interconnect. 2 basic choices of 10Gb Ethernet or 40Gb Infiniband. A dedicated switch is needed and a dedicated and private high-speed communication network created between cluster servers. Infiniband is my suggestion for a 3+ node RAC cluster. Infiniband is also used by Oracle for their Exadata Database Machine RAC clusters. It is also used by most of the 500 fastest/biggest computer clusters on this planet.
    Putting a RAC together manually, is a slow, expensive, and risky process. You need to make sure that all these components work together, that the drivers are robust and configured correctly, and so on. You need to wire this up to work together. You need to ensure h/w redundancy at storage and Interconnect levels. This is not for the faint hearted or the technological inexperienced.
    In fact, after building RACs this way, I've had my share of problems and issues with doing it like this. It is fair simpler, faster, and less expensive (especially in resources), to rather buy Oracle Database Appliance for small to medium RAC solutions, or Database Machine for large RAC solutions.

  • Replication between 2 node RAC environment and standalone

    I would like to find out if we can setup replication between a (2 node) RAC environment and standalone database located at different location. Any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for the reply.
    Consider for a moment I cannot implement dataguard/stream -- because I believe both involves licensing issue --- now only option left is writing my own code. If I right my own code what are the prerequisites for this and what do I have to keep in (technically)mind before i start implementing this. Any help or any lead would be greatly appreciated.

    I like to have have a Primary ( 10 node RAC cluster ) shipping to a physical standby ( 3 node RAC cluster ) shipping using LGWR .
    So I have a lot of questions
    1) What will be the performance overhead on the Primay if we are using LGWR SYNC option .
    2) Does the overhead depends on the physical distance between primary & physical
    3)Do you recommend a seperate private network for shipping logs between primary and standby.
    4) I know that DGMGRL supports RAC only from 10g. So are there any know issues are bugs using DGMGRL is RAC environments.
    Thanks in advance

    Generally you should have same CPU architecture and same operating system but it's not mandatory to have the exactly the same CPU model, the same number of CPU, the same RAM size etc.
    Actually starting with 11.1 you don't need to have the same hardware setup: it 's even possible to have primary and standby database on different platforms: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28294/standby.htm#i72053.

    The update will take appropriate table (TM) and row-level (TX) locks, but the select will not take any locks (unless it's a select for update), so, there should be no problem.
    Oracle will use read consistency to guarantee that the selected results are self-consistent and consistent with the point in time of the start of the query.
