DB13 define backup (backup-path to the external medium)

Hi!
I have one question regarding the DB13 (Backup-approach).
We have one external Storage e.g. NAS_STOR  (accessible over FTP).
We have also defined the folder there e.g. SAPBACKUP.
The Access to the directory is defined by the user and password combination (of course).
When we would like to define e.g. "whole backup" in DB13 we can define the medium e.g. <i>
NAS_STOR\sap</i>,  but we have not possibilty to give the user and password.
I mean the whole value of the backup-directory would look like ftp://sap:Password@NAS_STOR
<b>Can someone exactly describe the procedure to backup from DB13?
How should the backup-path in DB13 look like in our case?
Is there some additional steps to do, eg. with BR*TOOLS?
Should we edit some parameters in the inti<SID>.sap file?</b>
Thank you very much!
regards

opwen a windows session use user SAPservice[SID], open a command prompt an type:
net use
NAS_SOTR\sap
if this conencts without error mesasge, you ar OK, if not, check authorizations on server
NAS_SOTR for sharename "sap"

  • Define Oracle back up to the external medium

    Hi,
    I would like to set up back up for my Oracle DB on the external medium (FTP)?
    How can I proceed, which parameters should be set in the init<DBSID>.sap ?
    backup_dev_type = stage
    archive_stage_dir
    remote_host
    How can I set “remote user and his password and check that <SAPSID>adm and SAPService<SID> have write access to the external medium?

    Ok,
    Lets check the documentation:
    <i>
    <b>stage_root_dir</b>
    This parameter identifies the directories used by BRBACKUP to back up database backups to a remote disk. In exceptions (for example, no definition of the parameter archive_stage_dir), BRARCHIVE also uses the directories defined in this parameter if remote disk backup is required
    <b>archive_stage_dir</b>
    This parameter identifies the directory used by BRARCHIVE to back up the offline redo log files to a remote disk</i>
    So, <b>archive_stage_dir</b> for the archive log files and <b>stage_root_dir</b> for the database ( and archives if the first one is not set )
    Now the second part:
    <i>
    <b>remote_user</b>
    Use this parameter to specify the user for a remote host, if you want to make a backup to a remote tape or disk.
    Syntax: <b>remote_user = <user></b>
    Default: none
    If you use the ftp network to transfer data you can also specify the password which BRBACKUP uses to log on to the remote host.
    <b>remote_user = "<user> <password>"</b>
    If you do not specify a password, BRBACKUP uses the password of the database user. If this is the case, the two user passwords must be the same.</i>
    so, lets asume the following
    1) remote user is -> fidel
    2) password for the remote user -> 123456
    in this case you have to do:
    <b>remote_user = "fidel 123456"</b>
    Finally, all parameters together would be like ( for example )
    archive_function = save_delete
    archive_stage_dir = "/archlogs"
    backup_dev_type = stage
    backup_mode = all
    backup_type = online
    next_max_size = 327680K
    remote_host = blablabla
    remote_user = "fidel 123456"
    stage_copy_cmd = ftp
    stage_root_dir = "/dbbackup"

    I have an iMac purchased in May 2011.  OSX Lion 10.7.3.  I deleted backup file from the external hard drive which operates from Time Machine.
    Now, the trash can will not empty some of the files deleted from the backup harddrive.
    The trash contains-- File folder: "Core Services" which contains a locked file: "boot.efi".
    It will not delete.
    How do I get the trash can empty of these files?

    Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
    In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?

  • Oracle Backup to the external medium from DB13 via FTP

    Hi oracle experts!
    I have difficulty by setting up the the backup to the remote directory (on Unix Server) via FTP from DB13 on Windows (Enterprise Server 64 bit).
    The parameters I have set up are in initDBSID.sap:
    backup_dev_type = stage
    stage_root_dir = folder/subfolder/DEV (important with “\” it does not work)
    archive_stage_dir = folder/subfolder/DEV (important with “\” it does not work)
    stage_copy_cmd = ftp
    remote_host = myremotehost
    remote_user = "user password"
    My problem is that all the files creating by backup or redo logs are stored under folder/subfolder and NOT as desired on folder/subfolder/DEV.
    Can some one describe how the desired path to the directory myremotehost\ \folder\subfolder\DEV can be created for backup?
    Which parameters in init<DBSID>.sap are responsible for this issue?
    Thank you very much indeed
    Regards
    Axel

    Hi!
    Of course I have set these parameters.
    My problem is that I execute backup from Windows to remote Unix-share via FTP.
    The file names are very strange e.g. S3FV1~6
    The second problem is that the files will bw written to the wrong directory
    (I have set the path to "sap/backup" and hte files wil be written to "sap").
    The third problem I have: I habe two SAP Systems installed on the same host.
    If I execute redo logs archive from DB13 I get the error "no files processing".
    How can I set up this issue?
    Thank you very much

  • I purchased Apple TV. I had to upgrade my OS to Lion which I did. I cannot get Lion to open because time machine is backing up to two hard drives, my external hard drive and my internal hard drive.  How do I just get the backups going to the external? thx

    I have a desktop Mac.  I bought Apple tv and wanted to connect my photos to the tv.  I learned that I had to upgrade my OS as I didn't have icloud capability.  I purchased and downloaded Lion.  I cannot open it however, because when I go to select the hard drive to install Lion onto, the dialogue box says that I cannot open it in either my external hard drive or the internal hard drive because of the backups to time machine.  I have tried the 'fix' of moving the backup folder to the trash and then putting it on the desktop, but I still can't access either one of the drives to install Lion.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

    The current OS is Mountain Lion 10.8.3, so I if the purchase was recent, that is what you should have.
    It should be possible to see what disk space is being used by opening the Disk Utlity in the Applications>Utilities folder.   It looks like both disks are set as TM disks:
    If you have Time Machine backup of both the internal and external disks and want to rationalise the system to only backup one, then set the TM preferences>options to exclude volumes as required:
    When you download the installer from the Apple Store (MAS) it will come up with a dialogue to run it.  It will then ask which disk you wish to install the system on.  Is this where you have got to, before it says they are both unavailable?

  • Backups with Images on External HD

    I'm usinge PSE 10.  I do incremental backups whenever I change anything in the catalog and I do a full backup about once a month.  I'm trying to keep my catalogs and backups efficient and therefore my workflow is to keep active projects on my C: drive (images and psd files) and then use the "Copy/Move to Removeable Drive" command to move those images to CD or DVD when I've completed the project.  If I ever need to revisit the project, I can load it back onto the C: drive. What's nice is that this keeps the thumbnails and all the metadata in the catalog, so I have all the details without taking up all the space.  My offline media is flagged with the offline Icon and the Organizer will tell me which CD or DVD I need to search for.
    I recently added a new external USB harddrive (Western Digital My Passport 1TB drive) and I would like to use this in the same way for storing these seldom-used image files and projects.  So my thinking is that when I've completed the project, I use the "Copy/Move to Removeable Drive" command to first COPY the image and .psd file to a CD or DVD, then use the same command to MOVE the files to the external hard drive.  (The CD is simply an emergency backup in case the external hard drive dies).
    The problem is that PS Elements (probably Windows, to be fair) views this new external drive like a "real" harddrive and not like a USB thumb drive.  Therefore, if the new external hard drive is not connected to the PC, the files show up in the PSE Organizer as missing (with the question mark icon) as opposed to being offline like when they are moved to one of the small USB thumb drives.
    So my question is what happens if I don't have that drive connected and I use PSE to do a catalog backup?  I understand that it won't backup the actual image files (which is fine, because I don't want it to), but will the backup catalog still contain all my tags, categories, etc, that are associated with those images, even though it can't find the image files to connect to?
    The reason I work this way is because I really want to use the external hard drive and my CDs as the "image" backups, but I don't want to have to copy thousands of image files every time that I ask Elements to do a full catalog backup.  I just want the catalog backup to save the Organizer database plus all the image files that I'm actively working on.  So, does anyone know if the "Backup Catalog" command will still save all my Organizer catalog database data for those files, even if the full image files (*.CRW, *.TIF, *.DNG, *.PSD, etc. ) are unavailable?  It's asking me if it's OK to skip those files... and I want to say "yes," but I hope it will keep all the metadata for the files in the catalog.  I don't want those thumbnails to suddenly disappear from my catalog after the backup, and I also want the option to reconnect those projects later if I need to revisit that project.
    Sorry for the long question, but I wanted to be clear about what I am trying to do and why.  Thanks in advance!
    -Clem

    Thanks so much!  That is very useful information.  If I could request a feature, it would be a way I could tell Elements or Windows, "treat this drive as a removeable thumb-drive" ...or if Elements had a command that if you right-clicked on a photo thumbnail you could say "Treat this file like an Offline File." I guess it would need to be a little less cryptic, but you get my meaning, I hope.
    But you confirmed what I was hoping for... that if I told the backup process to skip missing image files, it would still preserve the fact that they were missing and maintain all the properties assocated with them.
    Their thumbnail is still present in the cache if you have not done any optimization. So if you do a backup, the media files won't be saved, of course, but the catalog will still contain their properties.
    Thanks for the tip about the optimize command.  Up until now, I've been thinking that there would never be a reason not to optimize.  But if I understand you correctly, I'll have to remember that optimization can delete thumbnails of unconnected files.
    ...one easy thing to do to save everything in your catalog is to find the catalog folder (use the help menu, system info) and do a simple copy of the whole folder and its subfolders somewhere. That can be done automatically if you are using Windows tools like Synctoy.
    I agree that a full backup takes time... What is not obvious is how to restrict your backups to your 'active' files. I may have clearer ideas tomorrow morning
    I had thought about just making an image copy of the Catalog folder.  I guess I was afraid something would break in the database if it was expecting to see image files and they weren't there.  I know that when you run a full backup from within the app, it saves every image as a unique name and has a cross reference to the "real" file file in the backup .tly file.  I didn't want to push my luck about breaking those links.
    But I do like having a full backup every month or so to have a clean baseline.  What I don't want is a full backup that includes every image file on my external hard drive.  (That's one reason I bought the Passport drive... to make the Full Backups smaller by moving the older project files offline.)
    Thanks again for your quick and detailed response!!  Much appreciated.

  • Cannot open the iPhoto from the external drive?

    I followed the procedure to copy the iPhoto Library of my Macbook to the external drive in order to free up disk space. However, the library on the external drive was not in the selection list after the pressing the "option key" and opening the iPhoto, as many have suggested. The iPhoto is version '08. This may be very dumb question. I tried to remove the "Picture/iPhoto Library" and then opened the iPhoto. The response was that " the iPhoto Library not found, etc."   It did not seen to recognize the external drive. I have exhausted my limited understanding on the subject. Appreciate greatly for any suggestion. The MacBook is down to about 5% free space.
    Thank you!

    Thank you so much for responding.
    The external drive I'd Seagate 500 GB, connected with USB. It is formatted as Journaled. This drive was used as the Time Machine drive before i installed the 2T Time Capsule. I like to relocate the iPhoto Library to the Seagate to free up the internal drive and hopefully a much faster response time on MacBook.
    I did what you described. However, the external drive (and copied Library) was not found after holding the Option key and launched iPhoto.
    I did the following tests:
    1) I could launch the iPhoto by double click the icon from either Picture/iPhoto Library or External drive/iPhoto Library.
    2) I modified a picture in either icon and the modification appeared in both.  It seemed, some how, that both libraries are linked.
    3) I used the Disk Utility to verify that the external disk is indeed Journaled. However I do not remember how I erased the old backup files from the external drive.  Do I need to reformat ED again to have a clean slate?
    Thank you much for your help!,

  • [Forum FAQ] Cannot perform a backup schedule via Windows Server Backup and receive "The system cannot find the path specified." Error

    Symptom One
    You attempt to
    schedule a backup every day via Windows Server Backup on Windows Server 2008 R2. At the beginning, the backup works without issue. But after a few days it failed and you receive the error “Windows Server Backup:
    The system cannot find the path specified.”
    Cause
    The issue may occur if there is
    no shadow copy storage space available on the backup volume.
    Verify
    You can use the List ShadowStorage command to check if you have enough storage space to store the newly created shadow copy. If you've reviewed the size of the backup snapshot and discovered
    that there is no allocated space for the storage association, you need to resize shadowstorage.
    Solution
    You could run the command below to create shadow copy storage space on the backup volume:
    vssadmin resize
    shadowstorage /for=<ForVolumeSpec> /on=<OnVolumeSpec> [/maxsize=<MaxSizeSpec>]
    More Information
    Vssadmin resize shadowstorage

    Symptom Two
    When you add
    another external hard drive to backup schedule via Windows Server Backup on Windows Server 2012, it fails and you receive the error “The System cannot find the path specified.”
    Cause
    The issue is due to the
    Original Destination Disk was not attached to the server.
    Verify
    You could check the disk status in Disk Management to see if the Original Destination Disk is offline or removed.
    Solution
    You need to attach
    Original Destination Disk to the Server then choose another external hard drive as backup target. After that, you could remove the Original Destination Disk.
    Workaround
    To work around this issue, please use the WBADMIN command line tool to add disk.
    WBADMIN ENABLE BACKUP -addtarget :{ DiskID}
    The AddTarget parameter takes disk ID as parameter. It can be retrieved by running "WBADMIN GET DISKS" command.
    Example:
    WBADMIN ENABLE BACKUP
    -addtarget :{ aa123d14-bba0-1dd9-0d93-80aaaa6bbb63}

  • All of my imovie events are stored on an external hard drive.  How do I backup this external hard drive? If the external hard drive crashes, how do retrieve the imovie events?

    I have all of my imovie events stored on an external hard drive in order to save space on my MacBook Pro's internal drive.  I currently back up both my MacBook Pro and the external hard drive  using a second external hard drive via Time Machine. I have a few questions:
    1. How can I be sure that the external drive is actually being backed up.
    2. How do I retrieve the imovie events if the 1st external hard drive crashes?
    Thank for your help!

    Let me give you some thoughts. I can tell you my plan, but ultimately you will need your own plan that makes sense for you.
    I do not think that your idea of having two separate Time Machine destinations will work. You can have two external drives as Time Machine volumes, but they will both back up the same data set. You cannot dedicate one to iMovie and one to everything else. They will both have everything, so you may still have a space problem.
    One way to overcome this is to back up the iMovie volume by using a tool like SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner. The good news is that your Event files should be pretty stable and there is no need to back them up every 15 minutes. So something like SuperDuper, which you can set to automatically backup once a day, for example, is probably fine. I am pretty sure that this would work if you kept the Projects on the same external drive. As long as Projects and Events are on the same drive, then the cloning stragy should work (but you should always test.)
    Because projects change more often than events, and projects can become corrupted, I would definitely back up the Project Library to Time Machine. You can do this even though it is on an external drive. (And even though you may be periodically backing up the entire drive that contains the projects.)
    Here are some thoughts on how I approach backup, copied from an earlier answer...
    ============================================================
    Great question. I think the issue of backup is a important one, and one I always worry about since I have a lot of video footage that is irreplaceable.
    For back-up, it is helpful to define the risk you are trying to protect from.
    For example,
    1) risk of corruption in iMovie --> I  use Time Machine
    2) risk of hard drive failure --> I use SuperDuper! nightly for bootable backup) and Time Machine all the time
    3) Risk of theft or fire --> offsite backup
    Here is what I do...
    1) I back up my boot disk with SuperDuper automatically each night so I always have a bootable system.
    2) I back up my original video files. For my Motion JPEG, VHS-->AIC, DV, and 8MM to DV, the EVENT is the copy I back up. (I keep the tapes, but I never want to have to import the tapes again.)
    For my AVCHD high def video, I back up the camera archive of the AVCHD, but I am not currently backing up the Event files, because I would need from 4 to 8 TB to back up these events depending on whether I made one copy or two. I can always re-create the Event from the camera archive.
    3) I use CrashPlan for my offsite backup. It costs less than $4 per month, and I seeded the initial backup to an external drive to minimize having to transfer video files over the Internet. I currently have over 2TB of data backed up to CrashPlan, which includes my entire boot drive, and the files described in #2.
    4) All of the above is automated, so I don't have to think about it too much. If I have to manually do stuff, I tend to get behind.
    You have to consider the value of total multiple redundancy vs. the likelihood that 2 or three unlikely events would all happen at once. For example, CrashPlan could lose my data. My hard disk could fail. I could lose everything in a fire. But it is unlikely that they would all happen at once, except in nuclear war, in which case, who cares?

    I just had to reformat the external hard drive that houses my iPhoto library, then restore it from a backup. Now Time Machine is telling me my backup hard drive suddenly does not have the space to complete a backup. I also noticed when I go in to Time Machine, there are only about 5 backups recorded on the ext. hard drive. There were many more before. Any idea what happened and if I have to buy a new back up hard drive?

    Hallo  Kieth ,
    I am not quite ready to restore the full iphoto library , as I have days of work re - imputting titles,descriptions and enhancement . I hope that your suggestion works , as I use my Macbook basically to work with digital photography. Through time , I will need to delete my library to recover more disc space and I would hate to have to spend more time re - imputting titles and descriptions all over again .
    Thanks for your interest and advice.

    Is it a USB hard drive?  USB hard drives have the problem of not giving full speed if they are hooked up on the same bus as keyboards and mice.  Double check your profiler to make sure that is not a problem.  If it is Firewire, make sure there aren't other firewire devices in use at the same time.  I recommend not only keeping a Time Machine backup, but also a clone, and if you do use Time Machine, to make sure the Time Machine drive or partition is at least twice the size of the original drive.

    Yes you can make multiple backups on one hard drive, for example if you’ve 1TB hard drive installed in your PC and you’ve two Mac Machines with 500GB drive each then you just make two backup images with size of 500GB each.

    I recently moved and had to disconnect my WD My Pro Edition II 2TB external drive I had been using for backup.
    Its been several months (many upgrades to the iMac software during this time), and now when I try to reconnect the external dire (Use a firewire cable) it does not recognize the drive is there.  I also tried "reloading" software from the Western Digital site, but after following all the instructions, it looks like my iMac doesn't support this software (I can't even locate it after I follow all the instructions.
    Thnaks,  for anyones ideas on how I can get this working again.....

    First of all, you do not really want to use their software; if you want a bootable clone, use either Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper. If you simply want to drag and drop some files, you don't need software to do that. The important thing on any external drive is that you format/partition it correctly (Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and using GUID partition scheme).
    Unfortunately, I don't know anything about WD drives or their software, so I don't have any idea what kind of backup you did. Having said that, it should still recognize the external even if it's outdated. Have you tried mounting it manually in Disk Utility? If you can get it to mount, you could (worst case scenario) just drag your stuff off onto your internal and then reformat the external.
