Db2/400 (V5R2) to Oracle Migration.

Can anybody tell me how can we do migration from V5R2 to oracle?
Is there any free tool is available?
Where can I get documentation for V5R2 to Oracle migration?

Hi,
I am not aware of any other tool which could help here.
I would suggest you log a SR or contact an Oracle Sales representative.

  • Migrate from db2/400 (V5R2) to Oracle

    Greetings!
We are looking at helping a customer migrate their DB2/400 (V5R2M0) database to Oracle (planned for 10gR2).
I see there is a Migration Workbench offering for the lower revisions (v4r3) as well as for DB2/UDB, however nothing for V5R2M0.
There are over 1500 files (tables) to convert so we don't want to have to do a dump & load.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!!

    Jim,
I work for a group in Oracle Server Technologies that focuses on legacy (mainframe and midrange) modernization. There are three options from Oracle:
    1. Oracle Data Integrator (was Sunopsis) - This product is completely written in Java so it can even run on the iSeries/AS400. http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/oracle-data-integrator/index.html
    2. Oracle ransparent Gateway for DB2/400 - Can execute qeuries directly against DB2 to migration the data. http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/gateways/tg4db2400.htm
    3. OWB (Oracle Warehouse Builder) - This is an ETL offering from Oracle. Two options for moving the data FTP (and load the flat files) or if you have an ODBC driver on the iSeries can use this with OWB. http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/warehouse/index.html
Hope this helps. My team is hear to help with legacy modernizations so don't hestitate to contact me at [email protected]

    Hi VKMP,
As well as reading the documentation thoroughly the following note available in My Oracle Support may be useful -
Problem To Migrate Table With Table Type P From DB/AS400 With OMWB (Doc ID 466271.1)
as OMWB does not support migrating physical files.

  • Migration workbench and DB2/400

    Hi,
Can we use the migration workbench to migrate from DB2/400 V5R2 to Oracle9i? The DB2 database has been updated recently from V4R5 to V5R2. Now we want to migrate from DB2 to Oracle9i.
If that's not possible, what's your recommendation in order to do the migration?
    Any suggestion will be appreciated.
    Adan L.P.

    Hi Adan,
The OMWB only supports migrations from DB2/400 V4R3 and V4R5. You may find that one of our partners can help you migrate your V5 database - for example, PKS. More details on our partner migration solutions can be found on http://mtg.ie.oracle.com.
I Hope this information is useful,
    Tom.

  • Queries regarding DB2 to Oracle migration

    Hi,
I am new to working on Oracle Migration Workbench and DB2. We are evaluating Oracle Migration Workbench (OMWB )for migrating our client's database which is on DB2 Version 5 Release 2 to Oracle. Request clarifications on below listed questions:
1/ Is OMWB capable of migrating database which is on DB2 Version 5 Release 2 to Oracle?
2/ When I connected to the AS/400 system using Capture Wizard, the system just stays on the Source Database Window with the message "Capturing Source Database..." for an unusually long time. Is there anyway to figureout if the process is going on fine or if there is an issue?
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Balu

To answer you first question, we don't support that version. You will need to seek an alternative tool, like for example SQL Ways from Ispirer

  • As/400 to oracle migration (migrane)

    Dear folks,
I am using oracle migration workbench to migrate data from AS/400 to Oracle. When I am capturing/importing data/model from source AS/400 system it shows up the databases available to be imported. Within that column it only shows the AS/400 system name instead of any relational database entry name. Therefore when I import that I only get some system tables and objects not the data files which are on the system. I dont know how to fix that so that it shows the relational database name so that I can import the data files not the system files.
Note: There was not RDB directory entry in the AS400 system but I have created one now.
    your help is appreciated.
    Munwar Soomro.

    Hi Munwar,
Am I correct in saying that you only see the server name in the Capture wizard?
1)If so can you confirm that when you connected that you had privileges to see the database you wanted
2)And if that database physically reside on the machine you connected too.

    Dermot

  • Oracle Migration Workbench DB2 UDB 8.1 Plugins..

I want to migrate db2 udb 8.1 database to oracle 10g ...But iam not able to find the plugins for db2 udb 8.1 in oracle site...... Oracle migration workbench is asking for db2 8.1 plugins can u suggest where i can download ....

From an earlier post on this forum, found by searching for db2:
No plans for DB2 V8 support in the short term. The plugins are hardwired to work against the version they are built against, so it won't work with V7. There are other alternatives out there. One example would be from Ispirer: http://www.ispirer.com/products/ or
    from SwisSQL: http://www.swissql.com/oracle-migration.html
[I assume 'so it won't work with V7' in the source post should read 'so the db2 v7 plugin will not work with anything other than db2 v7']

  • Oracle WebLogic Server - How to connect to IBM DB2-400

    Hi to all,
    I'm afraid I'm going to ask a f.a.q... anyway... I'm trying to define a Connection Pool to Db2/400. I see that Oracle App Server do support DB2 on windows and linux O.S;
what about DB2 on a iSeries / iOs machine ?
Thank you in advance for your help.

    1. Can OSB connect to JMS Queue which resides within the IBM Maximo Application? If yes can you please provide any documents/link which outlines the steps.Yes. You can use a OSB proxy service with jms transport to dequeue the messages from remote weblogic jms.
    2. Do I need to configure a Messaging Bridge or a Foreign JNDI provider in Weblogic? Which is the best optionNot required.
    3. What information do we need to configure in Weblogic to connect to the JMS Queue in IBM Maximo Application? Configure a proxy service with jms transport. Here you have to provide the transport URI hostname/port part you have to give details of the maximo WLS server host and part.Since jms transport involves rmi communication between two weblogic domains, you also need to setup either global trust between the domains or cross domain security.

  • Define BINARY DATA column (DB2 to Oracle migration)

Have a table where a column is defined as 'FOR BIT DATA'. This specifies that the contents of the column are to be treated as bit (binary) data. During data exchange with other systems, code page conversions are not performed. Comparisons are done in binary, irrespective of the database collating sequence.
During conversion to Oracle using Oracle Migration Workbench, this table is converted irrespective of this definition. Please see below for details:
    DB2 table definition:
    CREATE TABLE ADMIN.XENCY (
              ID INTEGER NOT NULL ,
XENCYSYMBOL CHAR(2) FOR BIT DATA NOT NULL ,
              IN TS_XENCY ;
Oracle table definition as generated by OMWB:
    CREATE TABLE ADMIN.XENCY
( ID NUMBER(10,0) NOT NULL ENABLE,
    XENCYSYMBOL CHAR(2) NOT NULL ENABLE,
    ) PCTFREE 10 PCTUSED 40 INITRANS 1 MAXTRANS 255 NOCOMPRESS LOGGING
    STORAGE(INITIAL 65536 NEXT 1048576 MINEXTENTS 1 MAXEXTENTS 2147483645
    PCTINCREASE 0 FREELISTS 1 FREELIST GROUPS 1 BUFFER_POOL DEFAULT)
    TABLESPACE TS_XENCY;
During data loading from DB2 to Oracle it fails for this table with the following error:
    Type: Error
    Time: 14-08-2006 18:21:02
    Phase: Migrating
Message: Unable to migrate data from source table ADMIN.XENCY to destination table ADMIN.XENCY : ADMIN.XENCY; ORA-12899: value too large for column "ADMIN"."XENCY"."XENCYSYMBOL" (actual: 4, maximum: 2)
For Oracle the length of the data in this column is 4; however for DB2 it is 2 only as shown below:
    $ db2 "select max(length(Xencysymbol)) from admin.Xency with ur"
    1
    2
    1 record(s) selected.
    $
The distinct contents of this table is as follows:
$ db2 "select distinct Xencysymbol from admin.Xency with ur"
    XENCYSYMBOL
    x'0024'
    x'2020'
    2 record(s) selected.
    $
How do I define a column as containing binary data in Oracle?
    Thanks in advance.

The MWB DB2 LUW plug-in incorrectly translates CHAR FOR BIT. Doesn't particularly pay attention to any of the CHAR modifiers. It will just see that column as a CHAR. Obviously, this is a defect.
Binary data of limited length is stored in RAW type columns in Oracle DB.
You have two problems (in addition to issuing an ALTER COLUMN to fix the type delcaration or dropping, tweaking the table creation script and reloading. )
    1. The data extraction scripts utilized for that table have not properly encoded the data for transport between DB systems. If there are endian differences between he source and target platform there may be additional problems. Nominally, you can export the binary data in hex format.
    2. The SQL*Loader file needs to be adjusted. (if you dump in hex format, so the data in the file is characters of a hex value )
XENCYSYMBOL CHAR : hextoraw( : XENCYSYMBOL)
Loader will convert those hex characters back into RAW as it loads.
[ The  built in data pump will not work obviously because the system thinks it is a CHAR. So offline data transfer is your only option.  ]

  • Calling DB2 Stored Proc from Oracle DB

    Hi,
I am having two different database running (One is oracle on solaris while the other one is db2 on os/390 mainframe) i want to pass the data realtime. Is there any way I can call a DB2 stored procedure from oracle directly. If anyboy can help in this will be really helpful.
    thanks,
    Kishor

odi version we have is  ODI_11.1.1.6.0, it is not migrated and 'Always Execute' option is checked already.
tried using variables in capital format but did not worked,
    begin
    schema_name.proc_name(#LV_TABLE_NAME,#LV_SCHEMA_NAME,#LV_START_DATE,#LV_END_DATE);
    end;
odi is giving error if it finds any bug in stored proc but after fixing its completing successfully without errors in operator but i am not able to see the result.
    Please advise.

  • AS/400 (MAPICS) TO ORACLE

    This is the problem.
I'm passing a table from AS/400(MAPICS) to Oracle using ODI. The problem is that the data is all wrong. The different values for a column should be:
    IND
    SIN
    SIS
    SUD
    And I'm getting:
    C9D5C4
    E2C9E2
    E2C9D5
    E2E4C4
Obviously it's a problem with the character set, but I don't know how to solve it.
    The scenario is as follow:
    Oracle Data Integrator Version 11.1.1
    Oracle Database: 11g
Driver to connect to AS400: weblogic.jdbc.db2.DB2Driver (IBM DB2 Datadirect Driver)
    Using LKM SQL to SQL
    Using IKM SQL Control Append
The datatype at the source is char(3), but I get an error message saying that I need a char(6) in the target, so I changed to char(6) but I get that wrong data.

As far as I know Oracle has a possibility to communicate with a AS400 database. More info can be found here: http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/html/A97615_01/title.htm

  • JKM DB2 400 column and table name 10 character limit

I am trying to set up CDC on an iSeries. I have successfully loaded data with the LKM SQL to Oracle, and now I want to set up CDC for the table and am trying to use "JKM DB2 400" . I get invalid token errors when I try to start journalizing, and it appears to be the table and column names, used to set up CDC, which are more than the 10 character limit. Tables like SNP_JRN_SUBSCRIBER seem to come from the getJrnInfo function and other table and column names are hard coded. I want to copy the JKM and reduce all of the names to less than 10 characters.
Where else are these names used? How does the interface know which table names to use when set to use only journalized data and how can I change it to use the new shorter names? Is there a better solution?

Thanks to all for assistance. It turns out that the 10 character limit, about which the server people warned me, isn't an issue with my ODBC connection. The invalid token error was being caused by some missing qualifiers in the generated sql which caused appearances of ".tablename" rather than "tablename" and other similar. I was able to modify the knowledge module to eliminate this issue and the CDC worked correctly on my first test.

  • Is HS Generic Connectivity(db2/400 odbc) supports Distributed Transaction?

    hi,
Is HS Generic Connectivity(db2/400 odbc) supports Distributed Transaction?
I am getting an error as follows
"ORA-02047 cannot join the distributed transaction in progress" when i am trying a transaction, which is inserting in to db2/400 and updating in Oracle.
if it does not support this, what is the best way
to do such things using generic connectivity.
(eg. by committing each sql statement ?)
my db is oracle 9i 9.2.0.4.0
remote db is db2/400 connected with client access ODBC.
    Thanks
    BA

    Hi,
one of the restrictions of generic connectivity is, that distributed transactions are not allowed.
    See manual: 7-6 Oracle9 i Heterogeneous Connectivity Administrator's Guide
    - Generic Connectivity agents cannot participate in distributed transactions; they
    support single-site transactions only
So you can only commit after each statement or you have to use the GATEWAY

  • DB2 8.1 to Oracle 11g with SQL Developer 3.0

    Hi,
I started migrating my DB2 8.1 to Oracle 11g, with SQL Developer 3.0
Basically, I need to migrate TABLES.
    I followed these steps:
    1) I created a new Oracle database, tablespaces, users, etc.
    2) Then, I created both (DB2 and Oracle) connections into SQL Developer 3.0. All works fine.
    3) I start capturing one table with the "Copy to Oracle" feature. Done with no errors.
But when I compare the table structure, I see the following problems in Oracle:
    a) All fields are NULLABLE = YES. SQL Developer show this field property correctly in DB2: NULLABLE = NO, but not migrated the same!
SOLUTION: All I want is that SQL Developer simply migrating the same value who I have in the DB2. But how?
    b) In DB2 I have one field property called COLUM DEFAULT. In Oracle this property is called DATA_DEFAULT. The SQL Developer show this field property correctly for the DB2 tables (for example: 0.0, ' ', etc), but don't migrated the same value! All fields are configured to DATA_DEFAULT = NULL.
SOLUTION: I think this occurs because NULLABLE is migrated with the value YES. Well, all I need is the same above...
NOTE: I tested the SWISSQL DATA MIGRATION software, and it works fine. All tables, field properties and data are migrated sucessfull. But this program is trial version!
Well, I think all of this are BUGS into SQL Developer.
    Please, anyone to help me?
    Regards,
    Ylram

You listed a bunch of things but you didn't say what steps you actually performed and what the result was.
Did you 'Compile'the procedure? until you compile the procedure you can't debug it.
I just created a new procedure and when I select the body it displays in the 'Code' window on the right. But the 'Debug' icon is not enabled because the procedure was not compiled for debug.
When I compile it for debug the 'Debug' icon is now enabled.
