Solaris 10 u11 : Is it possible to mix IPMP with vertual network interface
Hi
I have a system with 4 Ethernet interfaces , I'd like to try to have virtual network interface on two of them . then configure IPMP between each two.
- Is it possible to mix IPMP and VNIC ?
- online , I found posts about having vnic on solaris by creating additional interface file (ex, /etc/hostname.bge0:1 ) and also the IPMP create such interface?
- How can I know which IPMP version installed on the system ? and how to know I'm reading the right configuration guide?
- on what basis should i choose the type of IPMP for my system (Link-based or Probe-based)
Thanks in advance
HEBA
Hi.
IPMP can coexist with VNIC.
IPMP - part of Solaris. So you not need check version of IPMP. Just read Docs for Solaris.
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23823_01/html/816-4554/ipmptm-1.html#scrolltoc
It's not clear what Vnic you plan use. Is it VLAN or just additional IP on interface ?
For test address of IPMP you should configure interface like bge0:1 with additional options.

Install solaris via jumpstart with 2 network interfaces
Hi guys,
I'm trying to deploy Solaris 10 on a LDOM , using Jumpstart server. The LDOM must have 2 network interfaces and 2 default routes. Here's the relevant part of sysidcfg file:
network_interface=vnet0 {primary
hostname=aaaaaaaaa
ip_address=aaa.aaa.aaa.aaa
netmask=255.255.240.0
protocol_ipv6=no
default_route=bbb.bbb.bbb.bbb
network_interface=vnet1 {
hostname=bbbbbbbbbbb
ip_address=ccc.ccc.ccc.ccc
netmask=255.255.248.0
protocol_ipv6=no
default_route=ddd.ddd.ddd.ddd
}After {ok} boot net - install, I get these messages:
Using RPC Bootparams for network configuration information.
Attempting to configure interface vnet1...
Skipped interface vnet1
Attempting to configure interface vnet0...
Configured interface vnet0

Reading ZFS config: done.
Setting up Java. Please wait...
Serial console, reverting to text install
Beginning system identification...

Default Route Error for vnet1 ────────────────────────────────────────────────
The route ddd.ddd.ddd.ddd could not be added at this time. If you wish to accept
the route provided, the route will be added to the /etc/defaultrouter file
to be used at reboot. If you choose not to accept your choice, you will be
asked to enter network information again for this interface.
Accept Route

[X] Yes
[ ] NoAfter I choose "yes" , the installation goes back to unattended (automated) state.
Any ideas why installation breaks when adding second default route?
If I delete the line default_route=ddd.ddd.ddd.ddd, the installation is not interrupted.
Many thanks,
kido
Edited by: kido on Dec 29, 2010 6:10 PMHello again,
First of all, if I delete the second default route from sysidcfg, the installation performs uninterrupted, but vnet1 is not brought up after reboot. I get a message like: vnet1 is not a valid interface name...or something similar...
Regarding multiple default routes now... As long as "man defaultrouter" and "man sysidcfg" state that multiple routes are supported, I would expect this to work...or at least I need a way of installing 2 NICs without human intervention...
I will try to use some post install script instead ( will create /etc/hostname.vnet1 and add second route to /etc/defaultrouter) and will let you know the results. -
Login with a network account in offline, possible?
Hello,
I have a question, since I had before snow leopard server. So the questions now belongs to the Lion Server, the dedicated server. And this is not a issue, but few questions to you and need to plan to setup to the dedicated server if there is a or few way to do!
Before I could login in with a network account from Snow Leopard server from my MacBook PRO. I think there is still possible to do it. But now today I just wonder is there a possible to login in with a network account in offline too, also no internet require? And what is the name for that? True, I don't know a lot of VPN and never used this, can you explain bit about it? But I know when I logged in, I used a Open Directory account and this was "virtual screen", no need to open the screen sharing program or whatever. It just was from the Login Window, also when you are turn on the computer. Do you know what name and know how to could use a network account in offline on my mac?
I just want to give you an example:
If I am sitting in a flight to Vancouver from London, then there I have no internet access in flight trip, so I just login the network account and this had before "cache". Of course need to login in internet first to get all informations and files in computer, so these are stored in my computer. Then I am working with a presentation during the trip. When I am arrived in Vancouver, then I am connecting to a internet, so the computer, also the network account will update to the server with these new files etc or of these what I did in during the flight trip.
Here is few question sticks from the text above:
1. Can I use a network account in offline?
2. Do you know any name for this method in Mac?
3. I don't know VPN, so what do this mean and containing what?Hi
"1. Can I use a network account in offline?"
If I've understood you correctly, yes.
"2. Do you know any name for this method in Mac?"
There are several: Portable Home Directories, Mobility, Mobile Accounts etc:
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/UserMgmt_v10.6.pdf
Page 215 onwards. Additionally Page 163 if Active Directory is involved.
"3. I don't know VPN, so what do this mean and containing what?"
You could have googled this yourself but here you go:
http://www.howstuffworks.com/vpn.htm
Essentially it's a means of providing a secure connection from remote networks such as your home or possibly a hotel to a specific location - such as your office or place of work - which allows you to access Servers and/or Services as if you were at that location itself.
". . . so the computer, also the network account will update to the server with these new files etc or of these what I did in during the flight trip."
Depending on where you are and the size of the files this may be a doutftul/painful experience and possibly not worth undertaking? However only you would really know? IMO it would make more sense to sync these files once you were back on the Server's network. It's possible you may benefit by signing up for MobileMe or iCloud?
HTH?

Is it possible to mix italic and non-italic fonts in an axis label?
Is it possible to mix italic and non-italic fonts in an axis label in diadem reports?
No, there is no chance to do this.
You can only use the "Textobjekt" to mix italic and non-italic fonts.

no, you have to convert the export:

Hi All
Am trying to get my head around the new network config on Solaris 11.
I have 3 interfaces which access 2 VLANS (let's say 1 & 2).
For each VLAN, I wish to setup an IPMP failover connection, so that's 2 IPMP groups per NIC.
Do I have to create a Virtual NIC for each VLAN and add them to the IPMP groups respectively?
I'm attempting to understand the order of things here, since it also seems possible to add a 'blank' NIC to an IPMP group and still assign an IP address to it.
If anyone has any advice regarding the correct order (not a hand holding exercise just a point in the right direction) to set this up I'd be most grateful. (:
Thanks
JohnDoes anybody familiar with setting up multiple VLANs tags on network interfaces in Solaris 10?

Hello from Spain,
I have configured IPMP with two interfaces on Solaris 10. It works.
Now I need to configure a zone with a different subnet mask because I need the zone to be invisible to global, but not to the firewall, because I need to exit with this zone.
Here is an example of what I'm trying to do
Global
/etc/hosts
172.24.100.20 WK1
172.24.100.21 WK1-bge0
172.24.100.22 WK1-bge1
/etc/netmasks
172.24.100.0 255.255.255.0
172.24.110.0 255.255.255.0
/etc/defaultrouter
172.24.100.1
/etc/hostname.bge0
WK1 netmask + broadcast + group localhost up addif WK1-bge0 deprecated -failover netmask + broadcast + up
/etc/hostname.bge1
WK1-bge1deprecated -failover netmask + broadcast + group localhost up
Zone IP's
172.24.100.101 zone1 (global see it, it sees global and firewall)
172.24.110.101 zone2 (global see it, it sees global, but doesn't see firewall)
zone2 /etc/defaultrouter
172.24.110.1
¿Is it possible to do this? ¿any ideas?
Thanks.
Pd. Excuse my englishGeneral advice, since you don't indicate which type of zone you have (shared IP or exclusive IP):
if you are dealing with zones and routing, best to configure your local zones as "exclusive IP" (bge can do this) meaning you dedicate a physical interface to the local zone and configure the interface from within the new zone. Otherwise all interfaces and routing belong to the global zone and routing can be a problem. Then you can configure IPSEC or ipf to allow/deny access as desired b/t the zones or other network nodes.
If you have S10 u4 (8/07), exclusive IP is available:

Mixing public and private networks on the same switch
Hello Everyone,
I know this may get some security engineers in frenzy but wanted to know if there is a safe way to mix public and private networks on the same switch.
We have many remote offices that we want to add public wifi and a couple of other services that would be completely outside of our internal network. Each office has a 3750 with plenty of open ports. How can I safely create a vlan for public access on these switches which currently have our internal network on. I have read that people are doing this to save on the cost of purchasing a dedicated switch. Some people are using access lists and one person mentioned creating a private vlan for the public network. I looked up private vlan and it seemed bit confusing.
Is this recommended? If not what would be the safest way to do this?

How "safe" is relative. If your running just one VLAN on a switch, that's would be the safest (basically the same as mixing traffic on the same wire - separation is done else where).
If you multiple VLANs on a switch, then you need to determine how likely someone might figure out a way to breach the VLAN barriers. (This isn't so easy on newer switches.) If the VLAN isolation is breeched, then you need to examine what does that imply from a security perspective (for example can someone now inject or receive other VLAN traffic).
For most purposes, I don't see mixing public and private VLANs, alone, on the same switch as much of a risk. More of a concern is what can be reached on either VLAN and how well it's protected. -
Audio books mixed in with music
Hi, I am a bit of a novice with all of this so please bear with me and keep answers as simple as possible!! I download from CD audio books for my son, primarily harry potter, they are currently all mixed in with my music. I put them into seperate playlists for each book to try and keep a track but they play when I have my ipod on shuffle.
I am looking for a way to have them seperate as audio books. Also I the audiobook header in the Library has disappeared, any ideas on how to reinstate this?
Thanks in advanceHi Me Again!!!
I have imported a set of 24 cds all for one book using the advice given on here and aldoblog.
When I have set them as 'audiobooks' it has transferred them into the books section. But, it has put each seperate cd as an individual book. No big deal, but just a bit annoying and not as tidy as the others that I have done.
Any ideas on how I link them together.
Many thanks -

Is the IPMP configuration correct or can i do away with link checking...

Mixing Ram with different CAS latencies in K7n2 Delta-L?
I have been using 512mb Kingston Value Ram in my computer, pc3200, with CAS latency of 3.0. I just purchased some Corsair value select 512mb ram pc3200 with CAS latency of 2.5. I know you are not supposed to mix ram with different speeds (like 400 vs. 333) but does it matter if the CAS latencies are different?
I'm running an AMD XP 1800+, K7n2 delta-L, nforce2 motherboard from MSI. Someone at a computer shop told me they tried mixing Kingston 3.0 CAS with Corsair 2.5 CAS, and said his computer wouldn't even post. So I'm wondering if this is an isolated problem, or you will always run into this problem if you mix ram with different CAS latencies.
If anyone has experience with this issue, please share with the board. Thanks!
ChrisThe age old question, will the components I bought be compatible ? There are those that have bought identical matching memory that didn't work. In my case, I had an ECS K7S5A that used PC2100 Crucial memory, the sticks neither matched (at one time they did, but one stick died and they sent me the closest thing they had.). Neither of these Crucial sticks was identified by a configurator as being compatible with the K7N2 Delta L that I decided to buy. In the end, not only did both sticks work, but I put them in as single channel mode (ram slots 1 & 2), but later changed the configuration to dual channel mode (ram slots 1 & 3, even 2 & 3). It worked flawlessly in all three configurations. Sorry for the long answer, but in essence, there are no guarantees and your worries will drive you crazy. When memory is mixed, you reduce the likelihood of compatibility, even when you go beyond the recommended products that were specifically identified.
That guy at the computer shop, did he ever indicate or isolate the true reason why the memory wouldn't work ? Maybe, maybe not. I would think with a disparity in memory, the bios is the key to setting the settings for the worst stick of the bunch. Then again, the products you get might overclock to what the better sticks run at. My assumption is that mixed sticks, the bios retards settings to this in "auto" mode. When you force it manually, it may work or it may fail. One thing you oughta know, each and every stick has the manufacturers id encoded onto them at the very least, just like the firmware on other items indicates a manufacturer code and other data that allows these things to be compatible. So know you face that battle going in with any of them. If the bios programming doesn't allow it to work, from that perspective, there'll be problems. -
IS it possible to use FaceTime With my two IPad That has the same address? I Will Go to China soon And i would like to discuss With my kids from there i.e. One IPad in China And one in Montréal.
No, this is not possible. It would be like dialing your own phone number. You must verify an additional new email address for your second iPad. See the following link which will tell you how to do this. You will need to add this new address to Facetime app in one of your iPads.

I am totally frustrated by the fact that now i have gone to iCloud and after a few synchs, my contacts are all mixed up with the wrong information. For instance, my email and phone number comes up under someone else's name (a thousand contacts). I dont know how to repair this. what a nightmare
An icloud account is designed to be used by just one user. If you have given your ID or set up your account on someone else's device, then their data will be mingled with your or worse.

Is it possible to use variable with interval in BEX for filter or pl funct.
Hi,
we have filters in which variables with interval are being used, as well as planning functions in which a variable with interval should be used.
In the planning modeler everythings works fine. But I have problems to fill values for these type of variables. The error message "specify a value for variable xxx " is always generated. I know it is possible to do this (with VAR_LOW & VAR_HIGH instead of VAR_VALUE).
Can someone please help?
regards
DHello Dries,
yes, it's possible. You have to use VAR_VALUE_LOW and VAR_VALUE_HIGH.
