DB2 to Oracle: Indexes with reverse scans feature

When doing the migration using Oracle Migration Workbench, get the following warning:
Type: Warning
Time: 14-08-2006 18:13:33
Phase: Creating
Message: Index Warning : IX3_REQ; The Migration Workbench has identified that IX3_REQ supports reverse scans. The Migration Workbench does not support the migration of the reverse scans feature for indexes.
What option do I have to use in Oracle script 'behind the covers' to have the DB2 feature of 'allow reverse scans' for indexes?
Thanks in advance.

Why is the "ALLOW REVERSE SCANS" in the original DB2 index definition in the first place? To retrieve rows in sorted order? Or to enable index scans in descending/opposite order? The MWB isn't clairvoyant. This is one of those situations where someone has to dig into what was the primary objective to come up with the correct case for Oracle. It may be that Oracle DB doesn''t need any "extra" adjectives to give you want you want. However, the MWB should not throw away things willy-nilly unless know for sure it is superfluous.
[ By default the CREATE INDEX statemnt in Oracle DB creates a b-tree index.. which is probably what you want.  ]
Very likely this is a performance tweak. One thing to do is to track down where the "hot spots" are in Oracle (which don't have to be the same as they were in DB2) before spending a very large amount of time on this issue. It is an issue to track though.
If you take your new, perhaps under performing desired levels, Oracle SQL query's explain plan that you aren't happy about to one o the DB forums and ask what you can do to speed it up you'll likely get some helpful responses.

  • Index vs Full Scan - Parallelism

    Hi everyone, i have an problem my scenario is a plataform Linux x64 bits in RAC 10gR2 (10.2.0.5) and we are migrating to RAC 11gR2 (11.2.0.3.3) in AIX 7.1 and my query: Update movimientos set ESTADOENCOLADO = :"SYS_B_0" where tipoproceso = :"SYS_B_1" and ESTADOENCOLADO = :"SYS_B_2"; in my Oracle 10g uses an index in the table MOVIMIENTOS and in the Oracle 11g the optimizer takes a FULL SCAN.
    In both database server the statistics are updated with estimate 100% even the system statistics, fixed tables and data dictionary are taken its statistics.
    I review the cost in both plans in Oracle 11g (with a full scan and other using a hint to index) and the full scan plan has less cost that the index. My db_file_multiblock_read_count is not set up, but in the Oracle 10g i see a value of 16 and in the 11g i see a value dinamic of 192. Understand that it too helps an uses a full scan.
    The problem is that the query taken in Oracle 10g 20 minutes, but in the Oracle 11g with full scan 1.4 h whereas with a hint takes too 20 minutes.
    I use the advisor tuning and no recommendations.
    So basicaly i fix it modifily my parameter optimizer_index_cost_adj to 80 and it works well.
    My doubt is why Oracle11gR2 says me that a full scan is faster than take an index when in the real live it is not working in this mode. I need some posible reasons please.
    Thank you very much if somebody can help me with some tip or idea.

    Well if you can't figure it out by looking at the plans what makes you think anyone can figure it out without looking at them?
    We have no idea what the plans contain. Post the plans, record counts for the table(s) involved, record counts for any filter predicates and the other information needed. See the FAQ for how to post a tuning request and the information needed.

  • Issues with reverse key indexes and range scan

    I have a question. Why is it that reverse key indexes do not work in a range scan?
    Thanks

    Chris, well said in simple terms.
    Extract from metalink:
    Oracle8 provides the ability to create reverse key indexes. Reverse key indexes
    reverse the bytes of each indexed column with the exception of ROWID and still
    maintains the column order. Reverse key indexes are useful for Oracle Parallel
    Server environments.
    In an OPS environment, modifications to indexes are focused on a small
    set of leaf blocks. Reversing the keys of the index allows insertions to be
    distributed across all the leaf keys in the index. Reverse key indexes prevent
    queries from performing an index range scan since lexically adjacent keys
    are not stored next to each other. Reverse key indexes can also be used in
    situations where users insert ascending values and delete lower values from the
    table, thus helping to prevent skewed indexes.

  • DB2 8.1 to Oracle 11g with SQL Developer 3.0

    Hi,
    I started migrating my DB2 8.1 to Oracle 11g, with SQL Developer 3.0
    Basically, I need to migrate TABLES.
    I followed these steps:
    1) I created a new Oracle database, tablespaces, users, etc.
    2) Then, I created both (DB2 and Oracle) connections into SQL Developer 3.0. All works fine.
    3) I start capturing one table with the "Copy to Oracle" feature. Done with no errors.
    But when I compare the table structure, I see the following problems in Oracle:
    a) All fields are NULLABLE = YES. SQL Developer show this field property correctly in DB2: NULLABLE = NO, but not migrated the same!
    SOLUTION: All I want is that SQL Developer simply migrating the same value who I have in the DB2. But how?
    b) In DB2 I have one field property called COLUM DEFAULT. In Oracle this property is called DATA_DEFAULT. The SQL Developer show this field property correctly for the DB2 tables (for example: 0.0, ' ', etc), but don't migrated the same value! All fields are configured to DATA_DEFAULT = NULL.
    SOLUTION: I think this occurs because NULLABLE is migrated with the value YES. Well, all I need is the same above...
    NOTE: I tested the SWISSQL DATA MIGRATION software, and it works fine. All tables, field properties and data are migrated sucessfull. But this program is trial version!
    Well, I think all of this are BUGS into SQL Developer.
    Please, anyone to help me?
    Regards,
    Ylram

    I just did right click in the procedure body and found [Debug, Compile for Debug, Compile, Run].
    >
    You listed a bunch of things but you didn't say what steps you actually performed and what the result was.
    Did you 'Compile'the procedure? until you compile the procedure you can't debug it.
    I just created a new procedure and when I select the body it displays in the 'Code' window on the right. But the 'Debug' icon is not enabled because the procedure was not compiled for debug.
    When I compile it for debug the 'Debug' icon is now enabled.

  • How to integrate Oracle Tutor Desk manual Index with Oracle ApplicationsR12

    Hi,
    I have created a desk manual Index and related HTML files in oracle Tutor 14. Can anyone help me in integrating the desk manual index with the Oracle Applications Help.
    My questions are:
    -> In what top shd i upload my files using help Upload ?
    -> How do i integrate the desk manual index HTML file with my applications help?
    Has anyone done this before . If so , Can u please guide me through the process.
    Thanks.
    Edited by: Vyas on Apr 8, 2012 12:52 AM

    Here are some instructions - please let me know if this is what you are looking for.
    Kind Regards,
    Emily
    -> In what top shd i upload my files using help Upload ?
    Create Upload and Download Directories on Middle Tier.
         The download path must be a location on the machine that hosts the Application Server - ie, the "middle tier". Directories for the upload (for example, /u01/tutor/upload) and download (for example, /u01/tutor/download) functions must be created on the middle tier.
         ***These directories, as well as any future subdirectories, must have full read/write/execute permissions. The Help Utility will automatically create subdirectories, so the permissions must be set correctly before the Help Utility is used.
         Verify that the HELP_UTIL_DOWNLOAD_DIR directory points to a directory that can be accessed from both the JServ tier and the Concurrent Manager tier.
    From the EBS
    EBS R12 System Administrator > Profile > System > Find System Profile Values
    - Verify Site is checked
    - Verify Profiles with No Values is checked
    - In the profile field, enter %help%
    - Click Find button
    Update system profile values with the correct paths.For example:
         Help Utility Download Path > /u01/tutor/download OR /dbfiles/applcsf/outbound
         Help Utility Upload Path > /u01/tutor/upload OR /dbfiles/applcsf/inbound
         Help System Root > FND:LIBRARY
         TCF:Host > http://<hostname.domainname>
         TCF:Port > <port number>
    -> How do i integrate the desk manual index HTML file with my applications help?
    Use Help Builder to add the DESK_MANUAL_INDEX to the Help Tree
    To learn all the features about customizing Help Navigation Trees, refer to the Oracle Applications System Administration User Guide.
    EBS R12 System Administration > Help Administration > Help Builder
    When Help Builder first opens it may appear as a tiny screen in the upper left corner, if this happens, maximize the screen. You may also have to resize the screen as you may see the entire screen at first.
    - Enter FND in the Node Application field.
    - Press the Find button on the Find Trees Window.
    This should bring the Trees tab region forward with a list of available trees.
    - Scroll down and find FND | US | Applications Help Library in the Trees tab
    - Select and double click on it.
    This will open the Applications Help Library tree in the left frame
    - Expand the Application Help Library by clicking on the + next to it.
    - Click the New Node icon on the toolbar.
    - Enter the following information in Properties window.
    The next items assume the default Desk Manual Index terminology is used.
    If your organization uses or plans to use different terms, adjust the entries in the various properties field accordingly.
         Prompt: Desk Manual Index
         Description: Desk Manual Index
         Data: @DESK_MANUAL_INDEX
    Or enter the exact Desk Manual Index file name if it is different than the example.
    - Click the View button to verify the link works.
    You may have to experiment with using the @ sign. It may not be required.
         Click the Apply button.
    The Desk Manual Index will now appear as a Node under the Application Help Library. If the name is NOT fully displayed, click on the - (minus) sign to expand it.
    Link does not work
    - Change the information in the Data field.
    - Delete the @ and add .htm extension
    Example: DESK_MANUAL_INDEX.htm
    - Click the View button to verify the link works.
    - Click on the Save icon.

  • Huge Databases to be indexed with Oracle Text?

    Is there anybody with experience with Oracle Databases with several TB and an fulltext index with Oracle Text? Are there any success stories by oracle?

    Oracle Text, data load by partitation, async refresh index.
    Hi Gurus,
    Here I got a question,
    Serniro:
    A table with 2 partitions, text index created.
    When I load data into 1st partition, performance good.
    Sync partion text index, performance good.
    Then I load data into 2nd partition, it's so slow.
    My question is,
    How to disable/offline 2nd partition text index?
    Sync it after I loaded 2nd partition data.

  • DB2 to Oracle 11g migration

    Hi,
    We are migrating the siebel database from DB2 to Oracle 11g.
    While doing the migration, the following values are found for the siebel related tables on DB2.
    for example:
    CREATE TABLE S_SERVICE_SCRPT (
    ROW_ID NVARCHAR2(15) NOT NULL,
    CREATED TIMESTAMP(9) DEFAULT CURRENT TIMESTAMP NOT NULL,
    CREATED_BY NVARCHAR2(15) NOT NULL,
    LAST_UPD TIMESTAMP(9) DEFAULT CURRENT TIMESTAMP NOT NULL,
    LAST_UPD_BY NVARCHAR2(15) NOT NULL,
    MODIFICATION_NUM DECIMAL DEFAULT 0 NOT NULL,
    CONFLICT_ID NVARCHAR2(15) DEFAULT gx'00030' NOT NULL,
    NAME NVARCHAR2(75) NOT NULL,
    PROG_LANG NVARCHAR2(30) NOT NULL,
    REPOSITORY_ID NVARCHAR2(15) NOT NULL,
    Please can anybody provide inputs how to get the equivalent for these gx___ values on Oracle 11g.
    Many thanks in advance

    Found a suitable link at IBM:
    http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/dzichelp/v2r2/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.db29.doc.sqlref/db2z_sql_declareglobaltemptable.htm
    gx is the hexadecimal graphic string constant - which is similar to our unistr function.
    Not sure which character is representated by 00030, but here's a method you can use to simply figure out the Oracle equivalent code point.
    First you need to figure out the DB2 character represented by the default value - let's assume it is '@'
    Assuming the NCHAR character set is UTF8 and the NLS character set is WE8MSWIN1252, then you can execute:
    select ascii('@') from dual;
    ASCII('@')
    64
    in SQL*Plus and you'll get the code point 64.
    Convert the 8bit code point to unicode using:
    SQL> select dump(convert(chr(64),'UTF8','WE8MSWIN1252'),16) from dual;
    DUMP(CONVERT(CH
    Typ=1 Len=1: 40
    and you can create the table with the default value represented by the hex value 0040:
    SQL> create table abc (col1 varchar2(20) default '@',
    2 col2 nvarchar2(20) default unistr('\0040'));
    Table created.
    SQL> insert into abc values (default,default);
    1 row created.
    SQL> select * from abc;
    COL1 COL2
    @ @

  • IBM DB2 to Oracle Database Migration Using SQL Developer

    Hi,
    We are doing migration of the whole database from IBM DB2 8.2 which is running in WINDOWS to Oracle 11g Database in LINUX.
    As part of pre-requisites we have installed the Oracle SQL Developer 4.0.1 (4.0.1.14.48) in Linux Server with JDK 1.7. Also Established a connection with Oracle Database.
    Questions:
    1) How can we enable the Third Party Database Connectivity in SQL Developer?
    I have copied the files db2jcc.jar and db2jcc_license_cu.jar from the IBM DB2 (Windows) to Oracle (Linux)
    2) Will these JAR files are universal drivers? will these jar files will support in Linux platform?
    3) I got a DB2 full privileged schema name "assistdba", Shall i create a new user with the same name "assistdba" in the Oracle Database & grant DBA Privillege? (This is for Repository Creation)
    4) We have around 35GB of data in DB2, shall i proceed with ONLINE CAPTURE during the migration?
    5) Do you have any approx. estimation of Time to migrate a 35 GB of data?
    6) In-case of any issue during the migration activity, shall i get an support from Oracle Team (We have a Valid Support ID)?
    7) What are all the necessary Test Cases to confirm the status of VALID Migration?
    Request you to share the relevant metalink documents!!!
    Kindly guide me in-order to go-ahead with the successful migration.
    Thanks in Advance!!!

    Hi Klaus,
    Continued with the above posts - Now we are doing another database migration from IBM DB2 to Oracle, which is very less of data (Eg: 20 Tables & 22 Indexes).
    As like previous database migration, we have done the pre-requirement steps.
    DB Using SQL Developer
    Created Migration Repository
    Connected with the created User in SQL Developer
    Captured the Source Database
    Converted Captured Model to Oracle
    Before Translation Phase we have clicked on the "Proceed Summary"
    Captured Database Objects & Converted Database Objects has been created under PROJECT section.

  • SCAN Feature - Clarification

    Have a confusion in the output of v$configured_interconnects in Oracle 11g Release 2
    I am having a 2 node oracle rac configured and using the SCAN feature with 3 SCAN VIPs.
    SCAN VIP 1 is configured in Node 1 and SCAN VIP 2 & 3 are in Node 2.
    From Instance # 1 the output of the query "Select Name, IP_Address from V$configured_interconnects" looks like this.
    Name          IP_Address
    ==========      ============
    Private          192.168.21.1
    Public          100.101.21.21 (Physical IP Node 1)
    Public          100.101.21.56 (VIP Node 1)
    Public          100.101.21.58 (SCAN IP 1)
    and
    From Instance # 2 the output of the query "Select Name, IP_Address from V$configured_interconnects" looks like this.
    Name          IP_Address
    ==========     ============
    Private          192.168.21.2
    Public          100.101.21.22 (Physical IP Node 2)
    Public          100.101.21.56 (VIP Node 1)
    Public          100.101.21.57 (VIP Node 2)
    Public          100.101.21.58 (SCAN IP 1)
    Public          100.101.21.59 (SCAN IP 2)
    Please let me know is there any issues in the output of the query in the 2 instances.
    My findings
    1. VIP of Node 1 is present in both the outputs.
    2. SCAN IP 3 (100.101.21.60) is missing in the output from Instance 2.
    Thanks,
    Salih KM

    Hello @kwkelly,
    Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I understand you are not able to scan with your HP Officejet 8600, you are using the Windows 8.1 Operating system and it was working fine and now when you attempt the scan you get an error 'Trying to establish connection'.
    First I would like you to run the HP Print and Scan Doctor > www.hp.com/go/tools

  • Compare Oracle 10g with Teradata

    hi.
    How can we compare Oracle 10g with teradata under warehouse environments. While looking at Teradata the biggest advantage they are showing is that Teradata can support a very very big database and support Far better query support than oracle also oracle is design for oltp processing. But i am not able of find any technical papers regarding this claim.

    AFAIK, Teradata uses hash-based indexes to do their work. Oracle centers around B-tree indexes. Each class of index has a specific group of problems that it solves extremely well - based on the type of query as well as the size of the data set.
    Teradata demonstration teams will deliberately demonstrate the queries that perform better than on other systems, and will gleefully point at how much better they are than the others.
    Oracle, DB2 and SQL Server tekkies will do the same.
    This is one of the reasons why an intelligent customer will benchmark with their own applications. Another reason for running your own benchmark is that all major licenses tend to include a paragraph saying that benchmarks may not be published without approval of the vendor. So any benchmark that show Teradata better than Oracle will probably not get Oracle's approval. And vice versa. Unless the relevant marketing departments have an answer.
    IMO, there are two considerations to think about:
    1) There is proof that Oracle, DB2 and Teradata run extremely well in the world's largest warehouses, which exceed 100 TB. (Google the web for 'worlds largest database warehouse'). In general, one will be the leader in size and performance for a few weeks, then another will flip into that position ... such are the joys and benefits (to us) of competition.
    So ... does your proposed warehouse come anywhere close to those sizes.
    2) There are special skills needed to keep extremely large warehouses running. Those skills are no longer commodity skills, are tailored to the specific warehouse, and require both the individuals (plural) and the company to invest in long term relationship, including training.
    So ... is your organization prepared to invest in, and support those special skills?
    If the answer to either question is 'NO' then I submit that you are dealing with a commodity warehouse and the decision is not as much a technical one as 'which vendor provides you the most comfort'!

  • Help with context index with /, -, @

    Hi all!
    I have just start work with oracle. I have a problem with context index. Please help me. My problem is :
    I have two column 'name' and 'address'. I index two column with context index (for example : Two index have name is 'Index1' and 'Index 2' ). I set parameter ('STOPLIST ctxsys.empty_stoplist') and i insert four rows such as : ('A','80/3 cong hoa'), ('B','80-3 cong hoa'), ('C','80@3 cong hoa'), ('D','80 3 cong hoa'). But when i execute this select :
    select * from tablename where contains(address, '3 cong hoa') > 0
    Result will return to me 4 rows But i just want one rows is ('D', '80 3 cong hoa').
    I know oracle will convert character '/', '-', '@' to space so result will return 4 rows and i don't know how to oracle keep character '/', '-', '@' when oracle index. I just want to add with 'Index2' for column 'address' and i don't want to add with 'Index1' for column 'name'
    Please help me, and thanks for your attention

    So you want "/", "-" and "@" to link tokens, but you want "." to break numeric tokens?
    OK, we can do that - though it seems a slightly odd requirement.
    There are two special characters NUMJOIN and NUMGROUP which are used for purely numeric tokens. The default will vary by locale, but for English-speaking locales the defaults are "." and "," - so a number such as 1,234,567.89 will be treated as a single token. In French (and other) speaking locales, they are reversed since numbers are normally written as 1.234.567,89.
    If you want to disable these NUMJOIN and NUMGROUP characters, so that numbers are always split into component tokens, then you can set both of the to the space character (it won't allow NULL or '', which would be more logical in my opinion).
    drop table foo;
    create table foo (bar varchar2(200));
    insert into foo values ('80/3 cong hoa');
    insert into foo values ('80-3 cong hoa');
    insert into foo values ('80@3 cong hoa');
    insert into foo values ('80 3 cong hoa');
    insert into foo values ('80.3 cong hoa');
    exec ctx_ddl.drop_preference('foo_lexer')
    exec ctx_ddl.create_preference('foo_lexer', 'basic_lexer')
    exec ctx_ddl.set_attribute('foo_lexer', 'PRINTJOINS', '/-@')
    exec ctx_ddl.set_attribute('foo_lexer', 'PRINTJOINS', '/-@')
    exec ctx_ddl.set_attribute('foo_lexer', 'NUMJOIN', ' ')
    exec ctx_ddl.set_attribute('foo_lexer', 'NUMGROUP', ' ')
    create index foo_index on foo(bar) indextype is ctxsys.context
    parameters ('lexer foo_lexer');
    select * from foo where contains (bar, '3 cong hoa') > 0;Output is:
    BAR
    80 3 cong hoa
    80.3 cong hoa

  • Tora pkgbuild: oracle tool with postgresql and mysql support

    Tora is a tool for oracle databases with some support for postgresql and mysql.
    tora PKGBUILD
    pkgname=tora-alpha
    pkgver=1.3.14.1
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="Qt toolkit originally for Oracle databases administration with some support for Postgresql and Mysql"
    url="http://www.globecom.net/tora/"
    depends=('qt')
    makedepends=('perl')
    conflicts=('tora')
    source=(http://dl.sourceforge.net/tora/${pkgname}-${pkgver}.tar.gz)
    md5sums=('5560b5104438e1b71bd89386d0fcdc00')
    build() {
    cd $startdir/src/tora-$pkgver
    ./configure --prefix=/usr
    --without-kde
    --without-oracle
    --without-rpath
    make || return 1
    make ROOT=$startdir/pkg install
    I'm posting this pkgbuild only for testing/research.
    Fist, it's alpha (aka devel) version but stable release does not want to easly compile on my machine and it's too old IMO.
    As you can see it can be built without the need for kde (good news for other WMs/DEs users).
    The funny thing is that I built it without support for... oracle :-) That's because it needs lots of oracle stuff installed and I don't have it. If someone has, he can build a static version of oracle support (if you do please post some info here if it works, etc.).
    The postgresql/mysql support depends on the qt package configuration. Current qt arch package does not inlcude postgresql/mysql plugin support. The next qt release will have mysql support at least (http://bugs.archlinux.org/index.php?do=details&id=1040, http://bugs.archlinux.org/index.php?do=details&id=1166) and I have made a feature reqest for postgresql http://bugs.archlinux.org/index.php?do=details&id=1244.
    I'm still not 100% sure if postgresql and mysql should/shouldn't be put in makedepends (according to the docs and mailinglists it's not needed). I'll check that again when new qt release will be available.
    In other words in such configuration and present qt version this application is pretty useless :-) (though it can be run). But I'm posting this pkgbuild for the others (if someone needs to test it or tries to build it, etc.). I'm sure tora will soon be more attractive especially for someone using oracle databases.

    This won't work using a newer oracle instant client version though, since the pathes won't be set correct.
    The Project TOra won't use automake, since the author refuses doing so.
    Probably it would be a larger patching work to get it working with instantclient_10_2 (the current release version from Oracle).
    Why so?
    It seems as if the include pathes for the oracle client won't be set correclty, since TOra seems to expect a full oracle product installation.
    The configure does not accept a --with-oracle-includes or --with-oracle-libs option any longer (in 1.3.21 it did). Therefore, TOra won't find in example oci.h, since it's not in any include directory known.
    Also, some other files are not in the path TOra expects them to be.
    Without the possibility of passing by configure options handling this, i guess it won't be possible to get this TOra version running with the current instantclient.
