DBA_FEATURE_USAGE_STATISTICS

Hi,
DBA_FEATURE_USAGE_STATISTICS data dictionary view was introduced in Oracle 10G.
May i know if there is any way to get the same information from Oracle 9i Databases?
Thanks
Giridhar

You cannot get the same information in Oracle 9i. You can get the options installed from v$option and the versions of some products from v$version in Oracle 9i but there is no similar table to get usage data. The DBA_FEATURE_USAGE_STATISTICS was introduced in Oracle 10G and no similar feature exists in previous versions.

    Hi Gurus.
I found below important information about the license.
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/license.102/b14199/options.htm#CIHJJBGA
It says that to use AWR features(to access v$active_session_history, dba_hist_xxxxxxx, oracle_home/rdbms/admin/awr*.sql, etc...), we need to extra license, correct?
after I installed enterprise edition and set up EM( not grid ) for test, I have questions
    1. I checked 'remove access' on the management pack access screen of EM's setup menu.
but still I can find all views(dba_hist_xxx, v$active_session_history, etc..) about AWR.
    is it correct?
    2. I ran a $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/awrrpt.sql script, but still I can find that the value of column 'Currently_Used' of the name 'Automatic Workload Repository' from the view 'dba_feature_usage_statistics' is still 'FALSE'.
    is it correct?
    thanks.

is it correct?Yes. It only stops the display in EM. Since some of these views are also used for other things internally, it does not remove them. It's up to you to NOT access the views.

  • Multiple rows on DBA_FEATURE_USAGE_STATISTICS for Advanced Security

    Hello,
I have a situation where I have two rows on the DBA_FEATURE_USAGE_STATISTICS table for the Advanced Security feature.  Is this normal or should usage always normally be tracked on a single row?
    NAME
    VERSION
    DETECTED_USAGES
    CURRENTLY_USED
    FIRST_USAGE_DATE
    LAST_USAGE_DATE
    LAST_SAMPLE_DATE
    Advanced Security
    10.2.0.1.0
    1
    TRUE
    22-Apr-08
    22-Apr-08
    22-Apr-08
    Advanced Security
    10.2.0.3.0
    30
    FALSE
    29-Apr-08
    18-Nov-08
    10-Jun-13
and of course I'm not sure how to interpret this from a license management perspective.
    Thanks!

Your query seems to be incomplete.
There is a column 'VERSION' in dba_feature_usage_statistics.
When I query this view, I am on 11.20.3 after upgrading from 11.2.0.1
I see both version 11.2.0.1 and 11.2.0.3 for several components.
So I think your query needs to be amended.
Please note you also should ALWAYS include your four digit version number.

  • How to find out which feature is Licensed in Oracle 11G?

    Hi,
while reading oracle documentation, i found a feature "Health monitor " which i want to test on my Oracle 11G instance. However, i am not sure if my database is licensed or not for this feature and whether this is a feature which comes along with Enterprised edition or not
    1) May i know where can i find out if a given feature is licensed or comes free with enterprised edition?
    2) In my database, can i assume all the features given under dba_feature_usage_statistics are licensed?
    Thanks

  • How to find out the date when an oracle database is upgraded

    Hi,
I would like to know the date when an oracle database is upgraded (for example 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.3).
Can you help me to find out these details.

    Hi Ed and SB,
Thanks for your replies. How about this option?
Let us assume I am interested in checking when my database is upgraded to any 11g version.
    Will this query help?
    select min(first_usage_date)  from  dba_feature_usage_statistics where  version like '11%';
I understand this may not be a generic solution , but with this idea I may be able to build up a query to get the result.
    Thanks,

How is it that you or nobody knows when the DB was upgraded?
I would have expected a formal testing & upgrade plan.
Does the organization practice safe software & utilize any source code repository?
    Does everyone suffer from amnesia?
How could a MAJOR database upgrade slip by everyone who should care about such a detail?

  • Oracle 10g Licensing Query

    Hi,
I have a query with regards to Oracle 10g licensing for additional options (OLAP, Data Mining, Partitioning, Spatial & Database Vault) on top of enterprise edition.
Even though i am not using any of the options, i have them installed along with enterprise edition. Do i still need to pay for these additional options?
From 10g, you can always prove to oracle that any of the features/options are not in use via DBA_FEATURE_USAGE_STATISTICS.
We are using shared infrastructure for hosting many application databases. Today we have a application that uses only partitioning, but tommorrow we might have to create a database within the same oracle home that uses OLAP & data mining as well.
would be interested in knowing what is oracle stand on this i.e. we pay for additional options only if we are using them or we pay just because they are installed regardless of we are using them or not??
    Thanks & Regards
    Chandar

    Chandark,
You need to pay licenses if you are using it commercially and if it is installed and you haven't paid for it then how would you stop anyone not using it because its not paid but its there. This will be against your contractual agreement and they may fine you or you have to pay for the options. So I recommend not to install options you haven't paid for to avoid any issues. But if you are using for learning purpose and not commercial then you are good. You can further contact local Oracle Support or local Sales rep for more information
    Hope this helps, regards

  • Oracle 10gR2 - Is it Spatial or Locator?

I'm trying to determine if a 10.2 database is using Spatial or Locator.
I've checked out this other recent thread:
    Oracle is Spatial or Locator?
On the DB I'm looking at, I only come back with a reference to count is Spatial (and nothing for Locator - which I think is what it is really using)
I did some more digging and I found these to manual pages:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/statviews_3114.htm (10gR2)
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14072_01/server.112/e10820/statviews_3180.htm (11gR2)
And the difference being, that 10gR2 doesn't list Locator at all. From what I understand, Locator is just a subset of Spatial, and was split out in 9i or 10g, and specifically licensed for Standard Edition.
What I'm wondering is if in 10gR2/10.2 if Oracle hadn't split out Locator from Spatial in dba_feature_usage_statistics until 11gR2. And if, so how can I really tell whether the DB is being used for true Spatial or just Locator.
If you can point me to any oracle documentation saying one way or another, that would be helpful too.

  • How can we find if an oracle database is involved in GoldenGate replication

    Hi,
The best way that comes to mind is to make a grid where you have the entity and value dimensions on the rows and years and periods on the columns.
For entities you select the parent and the child you want to look at, value dimension members <Entity Currency> and [Proportion]. For years you select those which you want to look at and all the periods.
On the grid the [Proportion] should turn from green to red on one of the year/periods and that's the moment your entity became inactive to that parent.
    Hope this helps.

  • Oracle license audit

    Hello Oracle experts,
I am trying to perform an audit on an environment with many Oracle server installations in different regions, I am trying to find the best way to identify the following details for each installation:
Total Processors, RAC, Partitioning, Tuning Pack, Diagnostic Pack, Change Management Pack, Configuration management Pack, Provisioning for database Pack, Service level managment Pack, Database Vault, System Monitoring for non-oracle middleware, System monitoring for non-oracle database, BEA weblogic.
What should be my best approach and if there are any open source/free tools that you have used for similar purposes, or what V$ views would you use to obtain all of the above information.
    Sincerely, thank you,
    -Ar

    Hi Ar
Some of the answers provided are useful but you will be open to enormous risks if you rely on things like:
Querying Oracle for Proc Counts - very often wrong, e.g. Oracle and Windows "think" my laptop has two procs, but it's Hyperthreading, both are fooled!!!
    V$Options - Often wrong
    V$dba_feature_usage_statistics - Often wrong
I'm sure you'll have pre 10g (you mentioned auditing usage across multiple regions??)
Grid Control just doesn't cut it
Plus, anything with agents involved will miss lots - you can be sure agents aren't deployed everywhere
Apps Server & BEA, completely separate way to go about getting info on these..
Now for the good news, I'm with a company who specialize in IT Audit & Inventory including Oracle. We've essentially automated the whole process to provide a single click view of your Oracle (& BEA etc.) deployment, including all the complex interpretation of things like ACTUAL Partitioned Tables and if it means a lic is required etc, packs installed but not agreed etc. etc.
One client has a rolling IT Audit across just under 10,000 Servers on a weekly basis including Oracle inventory. This all runs from a single Servers using agentless scanning.
More bad news it's not free ;(
We're called iQuate, take a look at iqute.com/oracle - doing this stuff for 8 years, with some former Oracle folks joining and giving us a focus on the Oracle space about 2 years back..
We make the whole Oracle License Management process easy. if you were to face an Oracle License Audit or if Oracle License Management Services were to request your usage declaration at any time, it's literally a click of a button and you'll have a declaration report in the format Oracle uses.
    Hope to hear from you.

  • New to Oracle DBA

Recently I've been thrust (kicking and screaming) into a role of DBA. My supervisor has put me through the Oracle Sys Admin Workshops I&II, but that is a starting point; it seemed that many of the features that were touched upon are not being used in our environment (ASM,AMM,RMAN,EM) which makes my life less fun!
My job now is to monitor the database for any performance issues, proactive failure avoidance, backup and restore (the BU/R is handled by NetBackup/BCV with Symmetrix disk mirroring between).
I've been a systems administrator for many years, and I've been able to script a few health checks outside of the DB; at the OS level. I am beginning to look into some of the v$ views that allow me to see what is happening in our system.
I have a couple of generalized questions I'd like to pose (if I need a seperate thread for each question let me know and I'll repost):
    1. How do I determine what features are being used by the database (outside of the features mentioned earlier)?
    2. What should I be monitoring on a <interval> basis (hourly, daily, monthly)?
    3. What should I be looking for when I monitor? (right now i look at the alert log every day for "ORA-" entries and send alerts...)
I'm sure I'll have many many more questions, but these are the ones I have on my mind at the current time.
I apologize for the generality of my questions, I'm sure we'll get more granular as the discussion continues.
    We are running the following:
Oracle 11gR2 in HA mode (Veritas clustering NOT oracle clustering or grid control) running on Solaris 10...
Thanks in advance for helping me understand this complex beast!

Avoid "best practices" and people with prescriptive remedies. When you do have a problem, you need to solve that problem, not start twiddling knobs. There is plenty of instrumentation, though some things can get pretty dense for newbies.

I have a couple of generalized questions I'd like to pose (if I need a seperate thread for each question let me know and I'll repost):Normally one question at a time gets more answers, but some of us will do a list anyways. One thing you will learn as a DBA is you have to change focus rapidly between qualitatively diverse subjects. That is an extreme understatement.
    1. How do I determine what features are being used by the database (outside of the features mentioned earlier)? There is a table called DBA_FEATURE_USAGE_STATISTICS that tracks some things. Also, when you log into sqlplus, you get a list of some options. This winds up being quite a complex subject, as there are some features the db uses internallly that you are not allowed to use unless they are licensed. As a DBA you are expected to not even access the tables or views, and to turn off access through dbconsole/enterprise manager (dbconsole is a single db enterprise manager included as a default. Enterprise manager is often used as a synonym for the db part of grid. Explanations may vary) . You are also expected to know that these things can get silently turned back on when you patch. Oracle has a feature called OCM, which helpfully tries to tell support about your system, if not unconfigured.
Learn to use the docs to search for things like DBA_FEATURE_USAGE_STATISTICS. Yes, it is hard to search for things you don't know what they are called.
    2. What should I be monitoring on a <interval> basis (hourly, daily, monthly)?Remember to post the exact version of Oracle when posting here. The version would look like 11.2.0.3. So, it depends, and it depends if you are using grid control. The default dbconsole has some decent notifications. The details of what to monitor are site dependent and should be explicit. Some place send some alerts out at 3AM to your cell phone, others think it is good enough to send you an email for when the first person on the team gets in. You have to watch out for the former if you are the sole dba, you can get run ragged without some pushback against management that has a funny idea of uptime requirements. Some places people are afraid to say boo even if there is something wrong, so you do have to watch things. If you can get licensing, the top activity screen in dbconsole/em is real nice for just leaving it up on your screen.
In the past, you had a whole list of things to watch for, nowadays it's easy to have sufficient space and just get to know your system, how much cpu and i/o in pretty little graphs is normal. In most places you learn pretty quick what makes the phone ring.
But the first rule is "don't lose data." That means, fully understand how to backup and how to restore in your sleep, for various scenarios.
    3. What should I be looking for when I monitor? (right now i look at the alert log every day for "ORA-" entries and send alerts...)Yes, you need to know what they mean.

Thanks in advance for helping me understand this complex beast!Welcome to our world! You will see there can be some stylistic variance in how people administer. The modern training pushes people to be "DBA 2.0," a fancy way of saying to be slaves to the GUI's. That's only useful up to a point, you do have to have someone around who is willing to dive into the command line and understand what is really going on. People here really want to help, follow the "ask smart questions faq" and the various faqs here. There are some real gurus here (not just in badges), as well as a vast following 24 hours.
A note about googling: There is a lot of good information on the web. There is also a lot of bad advice. Use a critical eye, even here and in the docs. So, learn to deal with the docs, learn to search before asking, give all requested information when posting even if it seems oddly requested. Remember, we can't see what you do, people may jump to wrong conclusions if you don't cut and paste to show exactly what you did and the response. Many here have been doing this a long time and can ask to see information to answer the question you didn't know to ask.

  • 11g AMM - Diagnostic+Tuning Packs required?

Am I required to purchase a license for the Diagnostic+Tuning packs in order to utilize Automatic Memory Management (AMM) in Oracle 11g?  I haven't been able to find any documentation online stating so.

Oracle uses some features internally that you would have to pay for if you used them (even just accessing the tables).  But as long as you don't access them yourself, you are fine.  You can check the view DBA_FEATURE_USAGE_STATISTICS and the access is controlled by Options and Packs CONTROL_MANAGEMENT_PACK_ACCESS
If you have access to MOS, this is explained in AWR Reporting - Licensing Requirements Clarification (Doc ID 1490798.1)
Edit:  Oracle Database Comparisons | Oracle Database | Oracle search for "Automatic Memory" and it shows it is available for all editions, even though you can only even buy diagnostics on Enterprise.
Edit2:  Of course, some things you can use: https://blogs.oracle.com/optimizer/entry/does_the_use_of_sql

  • SQL Developer no more free ?

I noticed a new functionality, schema compare in SQLD 1.5. One that is used by develoeprs in my company extensively out of Toad.
To my surprise, it asked to confirm licence for Oracle Change Management Option.
    I am shocked!!
Didn't SQL Developer started as a free tool for developers?
I am asking that, did we not jumped on the bandwagon because Toad and other tools are asking price for the functionality we donot feel legitimate.
My sincere apeal, to keep the tool really free.
    -Jayant

    There's a mention here.
    How does Diff Wizard work?
While it says that it involves Java and SQL, there's nothing conclusive there about whether it requires functionality licensed under that option. There are AWR tables/views that can be queried only with the Diagnostic Pack.
Having said that, I can't find anything in DBA_FEATURE_USAGE_STATISTICS or SYSMAN.MGMT_DB_FEATUREUSAGE that might indicate whether the Change Management Pack has been employed. Maybe it depends on the contents of the SYSMAN.MGMT_CM% tables.

  • Schema status shows expired & locked

    Hi Pros,
I want to know if the status of schema user shows "EXPIRED & LOCKED" does it mean that the is schema used for a particular feature used in a Enterprise or standard edtion is Disabled?
    Example
Schema(MDSYS,MSDATA) show EXPIRED & LOCKED- Is Feature is disabled?
The above schema is for Oracle spatial which we dont use.
The status in DBA_registry shows valid for Oracle spatial
How to check a feature is been used in oracle?
Thanks for your responce in advance.
    Regards
    Anto.

First Thanks for your quick response.
Secoundly I just want to sum it up,
For example MDSYS shows up in the dba_users list showing "EXPIRED & LOCKED" it means the feature is installed and using "dba_feature_usage_statistics" view check if it is currently in uses and it shows "expired and locked" for security purposes- THATS GOOD info
So to uninstall the feature can i just drop the schema or use the help from Doc ID:472937.1 to uninstall the feature.
    AM I RIGHT?
Thanks Everyone.Everyone combined and gave a really good response.Really appreciate it.I need this info for a big problem i am posting for DOWNGRADE EDITION from EE to SE. Try to help me on that too.

  • Which Enteprise Edition features are being used ?

    Hello,
Due to licensing requirements I have been asked to check if a database is using any enterprise edition features so that we can downgrade our binaries to Standard Edition.
I know that I can query
    DBA_FEATURE_USAGE_STATISTICS
to find out what features are being used , my question is how would I know if a feature that is being used in part of Enterprise Edition ?*
    Thanks,
    C.

my question is how would I know if a feature that is being used in part of Enterprise Edition ?As far as I knows, there is no such view/sql/dbms which specifically differentiate the uses of features based upon as a part of that specific edition. If you are using X edition, then the query output of DBA_FEATURE_USAGE_STATISTICS and DBA_HIGH_WATER_MARK_STATISTICS will be based upon the edition. Suppose ABC feature exists in enterprise edition and DBA_FEATURE_USAGE_STATISTICS is saying that ABC feature has been used, so it means that ABC feature has been used as a part of enterprise edition. If there is no ABC feature in installed edition, you will never find the uses of ABC feature in that edition. So very simple is any feature has been reported by DBA_FEATURE_USAGE_STATISTICS view; it means that feature has been used in part of said edition.

  • 404 error after restoring the database

Friends, our dba team restored the Flows_030000 schema after a complete monthly refresh of our server (RMAN restore). Now when I try to access the APEX admin page or any of the applications it gives me a 404 error saying '/pls/apex/apex_admin/ was not found on this server'.
I looked at the apache error log file and found the following
    mod_plsql: /pls/apex/apex_admin HTTP-404 ORA-04063: package body "FLOWS_030000.WWV_FLOW_SECURITY" has errors
ORA-06508: PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called

    ORA-06512: at "FLOWS_030000.APEX_ADMIN", line 5
    ORA-06512: at line 10.
The RMAN refresh is a regular monthly process for us it was going smooth for the past one year ever since we deployed Apex 2.2. Last month we upgraded it to 3.0 and this is the first refresh after the upgrade.
I feel it is most probably a priveleges issue. But not sure what it could be.
Guys, any thoughts or any experiences facing the same kind of situation?

You could do a new install in a different database and see what privileges the FLOWS_030000 schema has that were granted by SYS, for example (don't use these results):
