Thanks,

Thanks,No difference between creating database manually and using DBCA.
in manual creation have to create pfile, creating directories for dump files and database files, running scripts create database script, catalog, catproc manually, and creating sample schemas, password file creation, oratab entry, you have to do.
in DBCA every thing is automatic.
one suggestion,

    Hi, friends:
when using DBCA to create database, after finishing all steps and let DBCA to create database automatically, bump into an error:

ORA-00132:syntax error or unresolved network name 'LISTENER_mysid'
ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameter
this is 10.2.0.3 version oracle, the server is sun10, no other instace created yet.
    just Oracle software installed.
    Can any friends help?
    thanks a lot in advance!

    See on metalink:
ORA-119, ORA-132 ORA-1078 Received From DBCA After Applying 10.2.0.3 Patchset

    There's an entry LOCAL_LISTENER created in pfile/spfile, that's a bug.

  • DBCA and Creating Database Manually

    Hi
After creatinig the database using Create Database command, we need to run the scripts like catproc.sql,etc. It takes a long time.
However when we create the database using DBCA, it is faster and we are not required to run those scripts.
    Reasons ?

In DBCA, if you choose to create a db with the template 'General Purpose or Transaction Processing' including data files, you would put a check mark in the Generate Database Creation Scripts section to produce scripts with the same actions as run by DBCA (including the rman clone of the seed database). With these scripts you don't need to run cat* scripts seperately.
Time the <db_name>.bat run against the same run "within" DBCA.

the top command show average of all cpu core sys% usage
when the one core sys% is 100%
the system are very slow .
e.g: when I create a database instance used for a long time . over 2 hours
but generally it will be done at most 1 hours or shorteris any type of OS virtualization involved in this environment?

  • Creating database Manually

    Dear Experts
I want to create database in oracle 10g manually, without using dbca or create database script on sql. I have been searching google, but not getting any related document. Can you please guide me or provide any link where I get steps to create a database by copying files etc

    user832095 wrote:
Thanks to all of you for your prompt response. But in all these responses, I have to issue CREATE DATABASE scrip. There is another way in which we do not use CREATE DATABASE statement, and create all files and folders manually. I did this exercise in the past but now lost all the stuff. Anyways, thanks for your replyIf you are asking about creating a database than how it can be possible to do it without issuing Create Database command? How can you create the files and folders manually? May be you should refer to the reply of Pierre where he has mentioned to create a database using a backup.

  • Creating database using DBCA stuck at 85% for about 7minutes~

when i create DB using DBCA , it stuck in 85% for a long time ,and the a waring appears
    it says :
EM configuration failed due to the following error
    -error starting database control
refer to the log file at emConfig.log for more details
so i checked the log file, and i find this:

starting emctl dbconsole takes about 7 minutes. and it still failed
some guy say it might a bug ,and can fix it using a patch.
in order to use the patch wizard ,i must login to the em. but i cant open it. and also , i dont have metalink account.
also ,there is another error , when i use emctl start dbconsole ,
it says an instance fo oem 10g Database Control is already running
then i use emctl status dbconsole
but it says EM daemon is not running .
    my os is RHEL 5.3
and oracle version is Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) for Linux x86
    so i was totally confused....
so ~ if possible give me a reply~ really appreciate~

    hello,
You can just create database without EM dbconsole and later you can create EM repository manually. Now if you have already configured it and you don't want to repeat the process then you can do this
    To Create
$ emca -config dbcontrol db -repos create
    To drop
$ emca -deconfig dbcontrol db -repos drop
    To recreate
$ emca -config dbcontrol db -repos recreateRegards

  • Create database on RAC environment - DBCA hangs on clone database creation

    Hi, friends!
I have two vm´s (vmware 2) with OEL 5 installed.
I´ve installed OGI and database software sucessfully. So, my crs stack is working fine in both two nodes.
However, when i use DBCA to create a database in this RAC environment, it hangs when it gets on "clone database creation", about 52% of the progress bar.
My DBCA logs don´t point any error out. It just hangs on..
I wait about 4 hours and it doesn´t move on.
I searched and found many cases like that, including here in OTN. But it seems nobody could find a resolution to this issue.
Is there any bug about OEL 5 and database 11gR2??
    More details:
I apllied the patch "p8670579_112010_LINUX" on both OGI installation (before root.sh) and databae software install (also before root.sh).
    Everything worked fine.
    Sorry for the grammar errors.

you can trace dbca, and you can found witch step is occurs problem.
can you paste here last 15-20 sentence of dbca trace file?

  • Creating databases with dbca templates after upgrades and patches

I have a 10.2.0.1 base release Oracle Home. Over time it has been upgraded to 10.2.0.3 and quarterly security patches have been applied. Now I want to create a new database using a dbca (database configuration assistant) template.
During the 10.2.0.3 install did the templates also upgraded to include all the 10.2.0.3 stuff? Or are they still back at 10.2.0.1?
What about the quarterly CPU patches? Do they need to be applied to the new db after it is created?
    Thanks,
    Rob

I opened a Service Request. Here is the official answer from Oracle support.
    QUESTION
    =========
After applying the latest CPU(JAN2008CPU) I have created a new database using DBCA's seed template (General). Do I need to run the catcpu
.sql on the newly created database? Are the seed templates already updated with
    the CPU?
    ANSWER
    =======
No, as these templates are not containing the Oracle binaries that is updated by the CPU.
Please let me know if you need further assistance regarding this issue and I will be glad to assist you further.
Otherwise please close this SR from MetaLink.
    Thanks!

  • Listener pre-requisite for create database using dbca

    Hello All:
Oracle binaries successfully installed using dbca (Advanced Installation, Custom, Install DB software only)
Now when i use dbca to create a database, i have noticed one of the screen prompts me to "Select the listeners for which you want to register the database".
    Question:
Do we have to create the listener before we create the database so we can register the database.
Is this a standard step asking us to register the database with the listener or we can get along with the create database without having to create the listener ahead of the database creation.
Is this step asked because of the type of install i choose earlier for binaries using dbca (Advanced Installation, Custom, Install DB software only)
    Thanks
    San~

    sannidhi wrote:
The screen doesn't let me go on to the other screen without making a selection. That is the reason i was wondering if it has been tied up the the install options you choose when you install software only.
    Thanks
San~I don't have dbca in front of me at the moment, but does it present you with a list from which to choose? If so, is one of the choices 'listener' or 'default'? If so, choose one of those.

  • Problem creating database in RHEL3 using dbca

I have installed oracle 9iR2 on RHEL3 and applied the patch 3006854
but while installing installing Net Configuration Assistant was not installed it gave an error.
now I am trying to create database using dbca but getting an error as
    ORA-12546:TNS:Permission denined.
plz guide me in solving this problem

At which step/stage in DBCA you get this error?
You can try to dump out the creation scripts and run them manually see if you can get through.

  • 9.0.1 create database using dbca fails

Solaris 8, 64-bit SPARC, 528mb RAM, 2 SCSI 9gig. Development box with no other users/processes running except Sendmail.
Installed Oracle 9.0.1 on machine from CDs with no problems, Attempting to create database using Database Configuration Assistant.
Creating 'general purpose' database using dbca with generally default parameters. Progress bar gets to 50% done, "creating & starting instance" is checked in progress window.
CPU utilization goes to 100% and nothing happens for hours. Eventually have to cancel dbca. No control files or init.ora created, (pfile directory is empty) there are a bunch of oracle processes left running which have to be killed.
I've tried this several times, moved stuff to different drives and/or filesystems, no luck. Have 5 gig available on /u01 where the database should install, and 8 gig available on /u02 where the .dbf's go.
If I had any hair left, I'd pull it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

I am getting this same problem: The DBCA gets to the point where it is installing the database and starting the instance (it says 51% of the way through), and then it just sits there doing nothing. I noticed when I installed Oracle (9.2.0) when it got to the point of the configuration assistants, there was mention of a listener not being able to start and the installer assuming it was already started (the listener that is). When the DBCA started right after, it stalled out at 51%.
I aleady had the Sun JDK installed, but am assuming this is not the issue since the install got that far. Can someone please advise a course of action so that I can trouble shoot this? I am very very new to this side of Oracle. Any assistance is greatly appreciated and will be passed along to others in turn.
    Thanks,
    BillR

  • DBCA doesn't see a newly created database

    Hello,
I installed Oracle 10g on RHEL4. I created a database called ORCL during installation. Then I created another one, called TEST, using DBCA.
Both databases are up and running, but when I enter DBCA again and want to configure/drop database it sees only ORCL, TEST - not.
    Can anybody help me?
    A.

There's only one entry in oratab:
    orcl:/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/orcl
I guess there should be one for my test db and there isn't. I can enter it manually of course, but what path should I enter? There isn't
    /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/test
because I did only create a database.
I remember that when I created TEST database there was an error, something like "unable to write /tmp/oratab to /etc/oratab". But there was no file called "oratab" in /tmp then.
User, his right and pathes are correct - Oracle soft and first database were installed successfully, there's is only one problem - with the second db.
    Thx in advance
    A.
