DBMS_SCHEDULER is an upgraded version of DBMS_JOB.
Its used to schedule a process. Suppose you have a procedure and you want that procedure to execute automatically every day at 10 pm you can use DBMS_SCHEDULER to achieve that.

send_reminder needs to be defined as an application process
Alternatively, you can define a dynamic action and do this more declaratively.
It's easy to define a DA that fires on click of a button that runs PL/SQL, and you can also define which page items are sent to and received from the plsql via session state.

Can i submit a page and later execute a plsql code in some seperate page..

I have a page.. this page has a button and the action for it is submit ..database action is insert activity..What i need is the moment
i press the button .. after the submit activity has been done .. a plsql procedure which fires when i redirect to page.. 100 also be executed.
Normally if my button action type is redirect to page .. Then this procedure gets executed...Since it is in redirected page.
But If I change the action type... to submit this is not possible . ..Since the activity that occurs is the database insert activity..
I also need the plsql code which is other page to be executed..
Any information provided will be appreciated.

i got it solved.. issue was..just
needed to write a plsql code.. which will do a insert activity and then ..it does a redirect of page..I changed the button action from submit to link to page

FILE NAMING IN RUNTIME in scheduler/plsql code in 102g. please help, thankU

we have a scheduler job which calls/executes a stored procedure that generates a report file. however we need to give file name run at run time and need to copy it to shared folder. we do not want use any shell scripts here and like to complete this work with either PLSQL block or scheduler job. please suggest us how we can specify file name at each run time that differs hour wise.
the procedure code for example is: failure: not getting file name correctly

Publish a plsql code as webservice without using JDEVELOPER or APEX

Hi All,
I am looking into how can we publish a PLSQL code as web-service without using JDEV OR APEX.
When I google for this one I can see only by using JDEV or APEX we can publish Code as a web-service.
Is there any way in oracle, just by using simple PLSQL packages we can publish code as a webservice.

Apex does not publish PL/SQL code as web services. It is a web run-time and development framework. Something totally different.
To turn a PL/SQL function into a web service is simple. You use the orawsv servlet in XDB - without making a single code change to the function. It will not even know it is called as a web service.
To use orawsv, two basic steps. Configure and enable the servlet (raw HTTP/HTTPS connections will be handled by the Listener). This also entails enabling shared server in the database, if not already enabled. The 2nd step is to allow the function to be executed (via a HTTP call) as a web service, via granting specific roles.
orawsv handles the HTTP call. It provides the WSDL. It parses SOAP envelopes as input. It makes the call (as a standard PL/SQL call), to the function being used as a web service. It returns the results of the PL/SQL function call, as a SOAP envelope output.

If yoru PLSQL code is in a "oracle package" object, you can call this object in an ODI interface
example :
your oracle package is called "my_PL_proc" and the parameter requires the source column "ID_PRODUCT"
in your ODI mapping, you can call it :

I do not like if-elseif constructs that much. These tend to get horrible warped and abused. Especially after a few years of code maintenance and enhancements.
My preference is instead for CASE statements.
I see that you are hardcoding literals in your code like +"A'+ and +'B'+ and so on. This is not readable, re-usable or easy maintainable. Consider instead a constants package that defines constants for these literals instead. You now have a single package and place for defining literals to use - easy to update and maintain. And vastly improves the readability of the code. E.g.

Now you +IF+ condition can use this constant - resulting in more readable code and code that is a lot easier to maintain.
Also, as far as standards go. Writing long blocks of code in an +IF+ block (or +CASE+ block), seriously hampers the readability of the code. And re-usability.
So rather take that large block of code, modularise it, and then call that module from the +IF+ or +CASE+ code block.
A basic standard to aim for is to make code read like a story - especially at the "higher" levels (the main code blocks that initiate the processing and control the process flow).
A very simple example - the following code indicates very clearly the process flow being done. And is a lot better than not modularising and instead have large swathes of code blocks:

How to display a value from PLSQL code to screen without loading or refreshing the page?
im using ajax to call the javascript to run the PLSQL code. i desire to view some value in the screen when i run the PLSQL code

anything that you print from the PLSQL code(using htp.p, htp.prn etc) with will available in Javascript as the server response. You can parse that string it in javascript and display it on screen or modify page items or create dynamic items/elements using those values.
A minimal example

You can construct the string in JSON/XML format in PLSQL to pass complex data structures(or multiple values) or even HTML code, then do the required processing in Javascript, for example extract out item values from it and set items, convert the JSON array to a select list item in the page or put the HTML code with a div element in the page.

Sample JAVA Mobile Server Publish code, and technical questions

Dear Oracle technical representative, or user:
I need to programmatically create, and remove publications using the pure JAVA classes of Consolidator, ConsolidatorManager, and ResourceManager for the Mobile Server in OracleLite 9i Release 5.0.1. On the creation side I have managed to get the example found in the directory OraLite501\Mobile\Server\Sample\Sample11 functioning using my installation parameters. I had a very difficult time of it because (1) the sample11 code fails to open an jdbc connection to the Mobile Server Repository Schema with the function Consolidator.OpenConnection, and (2) the ResourceManager function openConnection will not work unless the Webtogo.ora file is in the current working directory. The ConsolidatorManager function OpenConnection may also not work unless the Webtogo.ora file is in the current working directory, but I did test the hypothesis. Both of these problems need to be addressed in the sample11 code, and documentation to save other software developers from wasting hours of their valuable time. See line 223, 386, and 448 in the Publish.Java code that follows this problem description.
With the above two problems resolved, I can now programmatically create publications, but no hints on how to programmatically remove a publication exist in the documentation. The application I am developing will require the dynamic creation, and removal of publications. Also, when developing applications the complete removal of a publication is absolutely necessary when you have botched a publication. Thus my first question is What sequence of ResourceManager, and ConsolidatorManager function calls will completely remove a Publication?.
I also have two issues remaining with the code that I have so far developed. These issues will most likely be resolved, when I obtain instructions on how to completely remove a publication, and associated users. But, perhaps not. Referencing the Publish.java file that follows this problem description,
     1. The ResourceManager function dropUser does not drop a user. See my comments, and code beginning at line 277 in Publish.java. Do I need to de-instantiate all subscriptions, and unsubscribe all subscription users before calling this function.? I think, I tried the de-instantiate, unsubscribe sequence without success, but in the confusion I may not have made the try.
     2. How do I get rid of an index created with the ConsolidatorManager function DropPublicationItemIndex?. My comments on this problem begin at line 522 in Publish.java. For some reason the DropPublicationItemIndex function call made below line 448 does not work. What function calls are required prior to calling the DropPublicationItemIndex function?
Throughout the Publish.java code, I have made comments about some of the problems that I have had in getting the sample11 code working for my installation parameters. I think these comments should help the programmers maintaining the ResourceManager, and ConsolidatorManager code improve the stability of the programs. Please pass these comments, and attached files to the appropriate individuals,
if you are in a position to do so.
The other files that follow the Publish.java code are
     1. Compile.bat - Compiles Publish.java using j2sdk1.4.0.
     2. Run.bat - Executes Publish using \ j2sdk1.4.0\jre\server\jvm.dll.
     3. Webtogo.ora
     4. tnsnames.ora for the Mobile Server.
     5. tnsnames.ora for the Database.

Dear Oracle technical representative, or user:
I need to programmatically create, and remove publications using the pure JAVA classes of Consolidator, ConsolidatorManager, and ResourceManager for the Mobile Server in OracleLite 9i Release 5.0.1. On the creation side I have managed to get the example found in the directory OraLite501\Mobile\Server\Sample\Sample11 functioning using my installation parameters. I had a very difficult time of it because (1) the sample11 code fails to open an jdbc connection to the Mobile Server Repository Schema with the function Consolidator.OpenConnection, and (2) the ResourceManager function openConnection will not work unless the Webtogo.ora file is in the current working directory. The ConsolidatorManager function OpenConnection may also not work unless the Webtogo.ora file is in the current working directory, but I did test the hypothesis. Both of these problems need to be addressed in the sample11 code, and documentation to save other software developers from wasting hours of their valuable time. See line 223, 386, and 448 in the Publish.Java code that follows this problem description.
With the above two problems resolved, I can now programmatically create publications, but no hints on how to programmatically remove a publication exist in the documentation. The application I am developing will require the dynamic creation, and removal of publications. Also, when developing applications the complete removal of a publication is absolutely necessary when you have botched a publication. Thus my first question is What sequence of ResourceManager, and ConsolidatorManager function calls will completely remove a Publication?.
I also have two issues remaining with the code that I have so far developed. These issues will most likely be resolved, when I obtain instructions on how to completely remove a publication, and associated users. But, perhaps not. Referencing the Publish.java file that follows this problem description,
     1. The ResourceManager function dropUser does not drop a user. See my comments, and code beginning at line 277 in Publish.java. Do I need to de-instantiate all subscriptions, and unsubscribe all subscription users before calling this function.? I think, I tried the de-instantiate, unsubscribe sequence without success, but in the confusion I may not have made the try.
     2. How do I get rid of an index created with the ConsolidatorManager function DropPublicationItemIndex?. My comments on this problem begin at line 522 in Publish.java. For some reason the DropPublicationItemIndex function call made below line 448 does not work. What function calls are required prior to calling the DropPublicationItemIndex function?
Throughout the Publish.java code, I have made comments about some of the problems that I have had in getting the sample11 code working for my installation parameters. I think these comments should help the programmers maintaining the ResourceManager, and ConsolidatorManager code improve the stability of the programs. Please pass these comments, and attached files to the appropriate individuals,
if you are in a position to do so.

     2. Run.bat - Executes Publish using \ j2sdk1.4.0\jre\server\jvm.dll.
     3. Webtogo.ora
     4. tnsnames.ora for the Mobile Server.
     5. tnsnames.ora for the Database.

ORA-01403: no data found Error in PLSQL code raised during plug-in processing.

Hello OTN community,
We are having the access to APEX problem. a New user was setup to access the APEX application. When I test to login as a new user, I get the message "ORA-01403: no data found Error in PLSQL code raised during plug-in processing.". When click OK to the disply message, the application will take me out of the sstem. I need help to even understand what is happening. I didn't develop the application, there is no documentation for this application, I am just supporting the application whenever there is a problem and I am new to APEX. As you can see I need help to figure this thing out. Your help is dearly appreciated.

PO creation-ME21n-Why SAP does not check company code and Plant relation

Hi All,
Does someone know, why SAP does not check Plant and company code relation at the time of PO creation or how can we put validation between plant and company code at the time of PO creation.
<b>Example:</b> Suppose i have a company 0001 which is assinged to Plant 0001. when i am creating a PO with another company code 0002(Entering at header level-Org, data) and using Plant 0001 at line item level. SAP does not do this validation.
How can we put this check in place?

There are three types of purchasing
- Company code specific :You need to assign company code to Pur organization
- Plant specific : You must assign plant to pur organization
- Cross company purchasing: No assignment between company code and pur organization.
In the case 3, the system will not check company code and plant relationship, but it will check plant and pur organization specific.
The following is the copy of sap help text:
You can assign a purchasing organization to one company code. This is company-specific purchasing.
You can assign a purchasing organization to no company code. This purchasing organization can then procure for all plants assigned to it, irrespective of the company code to which the plant belongs.
Since each plant must be assigned to a company code, the company code can be determined via the plant in each procurement transaction, even if the procuring purchasing organization is not assigned to a company code.
A purchasing organization must be assigned to one or more plants. This is plant-specific purchasing.
Now, check your company-code and purchase organization assignment.

Automatic creation of Company Code and Sales Area Data for Customer Master

Hi,
We have a organisation structure setup with multiple company codes and sales areas.
A customer will be created using VD01 via the Sales Order VA01. Because the customers are created using VD01 we need to automatically extend the customer for the various company codes and sales areas. The data on these views will be populated using reference customers.
Any recommendations on the best approach (technically) to auto extend the customer master would be appreciated.
I'm reluctant to use BDC's because of performance. We are in a Retail environment.

The sample code has been taken from the SAP notes - in which have the affected as outlined in the example.
The codes does not do what my requirements are, which is to identify the next available number in isolation of the BP type.

Need suggestion on PLSQL Create and EXECUTE IMMEDIATE

Most of you already know plsql doesn't like create table, so we have to use EXECUTE IMMEDIATE for creating table. What if I want to see if the table exist, if not then create the table, later I will insert data into that table.
My problem is it returned me the error saying I am try to insert into a non existing table when trying to compile my code. I think plsql doesn't pick up the execute statement.
what I did is, both create and insert are executed by using EXECUTE IMMEDIATE. Anyone have such experience before and willing to share your knowledge?
PS: I am having same problem for creating sequence as well.

I think plsql doesn't pick up the execute statement.Since it is a runtime instruction, it will pick it up at runtime. but to be able to run, it needs to compile the code and in order to compile (so it can run) the code it needs that table/sequence you are referencing to exist already. So, you need to run the code to get the table and run needs to compile the code and compile needs the table to compile. can't go from here to there when you try to mix dynamic sql with static sql on the same object within the same program unit (or dependent units).
