DCR Add Device shows Duplicate Device Name

When manually adding some devices via DCR Device Management I get the "Duplicate Device Name" error.
The names do not show in the DCR Device Management Selector. I have also done an Export of All Devices and the names are not in there either.
I have confirmed that the forward and reverse names and IP addresses resolve corerctly in DNS.
How/why would it complain of a duplicate name that doesn't seem to be in there?
This is LMS v3.2  CS v3.3.0
Thanks for any help,

The devices are as you suspect in the "Devices not configured in ACS report"
I think I see what's happenned. Looks like the devices were orginally added to LMS but at the time they were not correctly configured in ACS.
What has happened since is that the ACS configuration is now correct, but the devices have also been deleted from the LMS DCR.
So they are not showing in the DCR but they are showing in the "Devices not configured in ACS report".
I presume this is what is preventing them from being re-added, will they naturally age out of the ACS report somehow?

  • LMS 3.3 no add device in DCR

    Hi,
I have installed the LMS 3.2, and when i add devices in Device Management, with its credentials, but it doesn't show this devices in teh DCR.
I create a dicovery and it show a message that the device is unreachable. From this server i can do a tTlnet, ping and SNMP.
    Best regards,
         Hugo

since the device is showing unreachable from the discovery output then that means the SNMP operation didn't run fine.
so you may try to increase the SNMP timeout and re-tries from the discovery settings.
also try to use a sniffer trace while doing the discovery and see the response from the device to the SNMP.

  • I'm trying to add my Linux netbook to my sync account but both my windows computers will not show the "Add Device" button in any of the sync management screens

I'm trying a new Linux build on a net book that I use for playing with non windows OS. In the process of setting up the fresh OS install I wanted in get my Firefox account set up to that I didn't have to spend lots of time working on that one thing. I'm no stranger to the browser sync and have attached several of my computers and tablets with a number of different OS to the account with little trouble including the Firefox of the previous Linux build that was on the net book. The problem now is that on both of my to main computers, a windows 7 desktop and a windows 8.1 tablet, both running the latest Firefox, I am unable to find the "add device" button in any of the sync management screens. This includes the browsers built in options screen as well as the Firefox manage account page. The first gives me options for disconnecting the account, going to the manage screen, several check boxes for what can be synced, and the device name. The manage screen, after logging in, only give me options for signing out, changing password, and deleting the account. Any help figuring out why the add device button seem to be missing from both these devices would be greatly appreciated.

Please check your Firefox Installation's version. (can be found by clicking the main menu, either clicking or hovering over the help button, and then clicking about firefox in the sub menu). depending on how long ago you set up sync you may still be using the older sync version. firefox 29 introduced a new (and might i add far less tedious) sync version. see [[How to update to the new Firefox Sync|this Mozilla support article]] for information on upgrading your sync to the new version.

  • How do I get device names to show on my airport express rather than the device ID?

When I look at devices that are running on my AirPort Extreme and airport express (running as a range extender) I only see their ID numbers. How do I get it so that I can see the device name?  In other words instead of it showing 00:11:D9:38:3C:DA it would show Nest Thermostat.  ive seen this on other peoples networks and cant seem to figure it out on mine

Things are hit and miss as far as client names being displayed in AirPort Utility. You might see a device name displayed at times and not at other times.
Unfortunately, Apple provides no settings or controls in AirPort Utility for this.   Things will not look like the nice Apple advertisements if that is what you might be hoping for.
You might want to let Apple know that you would like more control for this "feature".  If so, please use the link provided below.

  • How to show devices names?

Hey guys, i've finally installed an Airport base station and an express for upstairs, though I noticed that the connected devices show the internal IP and not Name of device. ie: Jane's Iphone, Mike's Ipad Mini etc.. I've seen videos that show this and some articels say it only works with the old version of the aiport app which does not open under Mavricks. Any help will be appercitaed.

AirPort Utility's display of the device names does not appear to be a function of how long the Extreme and Expresses have been installed, it seems to be more of a function of the individual device activity and how long AirPort Utility has had to detect that information. The method Apple uses to provide that information isn't publicly available.
Edit: Having launched AirPort Utility a few moments ago, several devices changed from originally appearing as only IP addresses to human - readable names. Leave AirPort Utility open for a few minutes and determine if you observe the same results.
another Edit: A few moments later, all the devices are appearing with readable names. I did nothing other than to leave AirPort Utility running.

  • Help needed for (Null) showing as device name on router

Hi all .... facing a little issue with my imac?
I have recently bought some software that I need to connet to my local network. Well my network iMac device name was showing on my router (attached devices) as imac-a2gh6b but now for some reason it has changed to (null) - seee image - the software I am trying to use needs to use the local network to communicate between the 3 seperate programs.
The software is NCH Accounts Express / Express Invoice / Inventoria
Here is a screenshot of the advanced routing section in Inventoria ... as you can see my Computer Host: [(null)] and it used to be Computer Host: [imac-a2gh6b]

Hello PClaus. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
In order to administer your new AirPort Express Base Station (AXn), the computer has to have the AirPort Utility installed. This will either be available with OS X Leopard or on the installation CD that came with the AXn. If your desktop Mac is not wireless, then the only way to access the AXn would be to connect the AXn directly to the Mac with Ethernet or connect both the AXn and your Mac to an Ethernet switch. Since you state that your laptops are wireless, I suggest using one of them to do the administration. Let me know if you were successful.

    Hi mafiose15,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Restoring your iPod to factory settings is the best way to try and get it back to working order. You can use the instructions below to restore it:
    How to restore iPod
Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    Click Restore.
If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.
You can find the instructions in this article:

  • Blutooth doesn't show device names

When trying to setup a connection between my new iPhone 3G and my car's blutooth car kit, the iPhone only shows the device category names not the actual device name. Same thing happened with my PC. Has anyone else come across this?

I have a similar problem in my 08 Dodge Charger connecting to UConnect. My phone worked fine prior to the upgade to 2.0. So far I feel like this was actually a downgrade. I am able to pair the devices but when I try to make or receive a call it says no phone connected. Apple really needs to get it together!!!

  • Manage Devices shows old device names.

I recently changed the names from my Computer (Windows 7, Service Pack 1), iPhone 4 and iPad 4. When I open iTunes 12.0.1.26 and go to accountinformation, I am able to see under manage devices my three devices. My computer (new name) iPad (still old name) iPhone (still old name). the name change from the computer has been adopted but my idevices still show the old names in brackets (). I removed them from the list via the remove button and added them in the iOS settings by switching the downloadbuttons for music and books to on but sadly no change. How do I manage that the manage devices register adopts the new names I have given these divices. Any help is appreciated.

My new iPad isn't even listed in the devices in my iTunes account. It also isn't listed in the left pane under devices with my iPhone and iPod Touch. It also won't sync to my iMac unless it is physically tethered. When I go to the sync button in Settings>General>iTunes Wi-Fi Sync it says: Sync will resume when iMac is available. My iMac is ALWAYS available. hmmm. I also did not get the low battery (red indicator, 20% dismiss) button when my battery got down to 20%. Also in iBooks, I have nothing showing even though I have quite a few books in my iBooks Library. Curiouser and curiouser..... Other than that? No problems at all, LOL.

  • CUOM - How to add IP address with hostname (device name)

    Hello all,
I have a quick question regarding CUOM(Operation Manager).
How I could add devices' hostname to CUOM for monitoring?
I could add IP address as below ,  if I only add IP address, then it looks NO "device name' field which I could add.
    Devices ->Device Management->Add  Devices
Thank you for your help in advance.
    Howard

It is resolved by updating host file on CUOM server.

  • Changed (renamed) device name in Intune app on iOS device. This change is not showing up in the admin portal, even after 24 hours

    Hi,
I am trying to update a mobile devices names.  Initially, I changed the iOS device name (Settings->General->About->Name) and then I also renamed the device in the Intune app on the device.  Neither of these changes are propagating through
to the admin portal, even after 24 hours.  Is there anything else I should be doing for this to work?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Simon.

I'm seeing the same thing as Simon, I changed the iOS device name in both places on an iOS device and the name in the Intune console is still "iPhone" which is really unhelpful as I'm sure you can imagine.  Is there some other place
that we should be going to rename devices so they are more easily identifiable in the Intune console?
    Thanks!

  • There is no "add device" option showing up not is there a manage option

I have been trying to sync my devices. When I go through the process both devices provide keys and neither has the "add device" option or "manage account" option.

  • Apple Device Names not always showing

    Hello,
Just about 48 hours ago I had a system shut down and after I reset the Time capsule and two AirPort Expresses, I noticed when I clicked on any device in the Airport Utility that no device names were listed, just the Wi-Fi Address detail, why? And is there a a fix.
    Thank You

That is the way it now works.
Here is mine this morning.. sometimes you get names.. sometimes you get MAC addresses.. Mostly now just MAC addresses. There are no controls to what you see.
There is a full summary page.. you hold down option key and double click the TC icon.. that will allow you some more info about the client. But not the name.
To find the names you will need to do a netstat scan..
Or load 5.6 utility somehow .. so you can actually find some more info.
Because I stuck with Mountain Lion i can have 5.6 utility as well and therefore have real info.
2 steps forward with each release.. and 3 backwards.

  • DFM Device name problem

    Hi
I been working with Ciscoworks LMS2.6, entered all the devices into Commonn services, Decvice Name, IP address etc, I have tick box in DFM to sync with DCR, which I assume is from the common services. The bug is that the Device name does not come up in DFM only the IP address, even though I have put the correct details in the DCR with the correct SNMP strings, has anyone one seen this issue?
    Dave

DFM is the one application in LMS which does not respect the DCR display name.  This is not a bug, but a design issue.  In order for DFM to show the hostnames, you need to make sure the management IP is one-to-one resolvable with the hostname.  The best way to ensure this is to add an entry for each device to the server's local hosts file, then delete the devices from DFM, and re-add them.  This can be made to work with DNS, but you need to make sure that the IP resolves to a hostname, and that same hostname resolves back to the same IP.

  • Add Device sees wireless but printer is wired and can reach the HTTP page on wire

I installed my new Officejet 8000 Pro A809 with an ethernet but when I run the HP "Add Device" Wizard, it trys to install it as wireless even though I select wired and the install fails.
I can see the http page for the printer and it shows all sane information about my printer so I believe the ethernet is actually working.
I am running WinXP with the FW off. The printer is on the same switch as my PC & of course I can see the http page
In the wizard, although I selected "Wired" of course the wire is working, the "Found Network Printers" page shows that its connection is wireless. None-the-less I click next and a screen comes up for "Starting Network Services" & it rolls though topology, wireless strength, etc. and to sending an SLP request to the IP then it fails & shows an picture of a wireless signal and a big red X.
The HP Home Network Diagnostics Utility says that software to connect to printer over network is missing BUT I ran the Wizard all the way though a second time, I selected that my device was not online and it finished OK. I ran the UPDATE from the Utility & it did a security update; I rand it again and it did not find any.
Although my FW is off, I checked the ports that the FW Guide says are needed:
I can telenet to the printer on ports 9100 & 92200
I cannot telnet on ports 137,139 or 427
    Ideas?
    Thanks!

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

OK, plugging the Ethernet cable into the printer should turn off the printer's wireless radio, but in case it did not, click the button near the blue light (or go to Setup > Network > Turn off wireless radio on the front panel).
Now, don't bother with the Add Device wizard, let's just add it manually:
Verify that you can browse to the printer's internal web page by its IP address.  If you cannot, disable your security system's firewall (not Windows firewall, it is usually not in the way).
    1. Click "Start" button --> Printers and Faxes.
    2. Under Printer Tasks, click "Add Printer".
    3. Click "Next" button on the Add Printer Wizard window.
    4. Select "Local printer attached to this computer". Deselect "Automatically detect and install My Plug and play printer". Click "Next".
    5. Under Select a Printer Port option, select "Create a new port" and select "Standard TCP/IP Port" and click "Next" button.
    6. In the "Welcome to the Add Standard TCP/IP printer port wizard" make sure that the printer is turned on and connected to same network that your computer is connected to. Click "Next" button.
    7. Under "Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port" enter the printer's IP address. Click "Next" then click "Finish".
    8. Now, select HP from the list of manufacturers, select your printer from the list of Printer models and click 'Next' button.
    9. If you can't find your printer, you'll need to find the install CD and use the "Have Disk" option to select one of the hp*.ini files. Alternatively, you can select another HP printer model from the same type.
    10. Add the print spooler name and click "Next".
    11. Click "Next"
    12. Click "Next" and then "Finish"
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.
