Dead BOLD 9780 after device update

HELP!!!     I'm not exactly phone savvy so I hope someone can help me....In January 2011 I purchased a new Bold 9780 and I just loved it.  Yesterday on my phone I received an opportunity for a device update.  After it indicated that it would take over 2 hours to install and during which time I would not be able to use the phone I tried to prompt it for a remote start at 2:00AM (then I would have time to do a back-up)…pressed save after making the time prompt and it still started the update immediately.  I shrugged it off and let it do it’s thing.  Almost 3 hours later, it still wasn’t up.   I was still getting a white screen with the small black box with second hand spinning in the centre of the screen then it would give me a download bar that would only load to 50% then the screen/phone would shut off, red indicator light would come on, then a white screen again….repeat!  Contacted my service provider and was told that it sounds like it just needs more time to do it’s thing.  I plugged it into the wall so that it wouldn’t run out of juice and went to bed.  Woke up at 4:00AM, checked the phone and there was no power, black screen and no indicator light on.  I WAS UNABLE TO POWER UP THE PHONE.  Still plugged in, I pulled the battery.  I then got a red indicator light but nothing else.  Put the battery back in and the indicator light went out and, once again, the phone was dead.  Grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!   This morning I contacted my service provider again and they told me that we could do a “backdoor restart” which may wipe out all the memory and restore the phone to factory setting which I DON’T want to do but I will try later if no one can help me.

Sounds like the update didn't download correctly or got corrupted during the download or something. I can't think of anything for you to do except reinstall the system software on the device, which will erase everything (I assume thats what the serivce rep was referring to).
Here is the tutorial to do the system reload yourself (or you can call your service provider again and they will walk you through it).
EDIT: JSander's guide is better suited for a white screen. You could probably make the above one work with some tweaking.

    This is on chrome but I've tested safari as well and remember this happening on a different mac I think from the jump from Lion to ML but I can't remember what fixed it. I believe it had something to do with going into the fonts folder. Can anyone tell me for sure?

    I'm sorry but new iWork apps lost their charm. Until Apple puts back all the functionality they stole, I'm sticking with the version(s) just prior to Mavericks, iOS7 and the related new iWork. However, my Century Gothic fonts in my previously designed and still useful Keynotes look like the one pictured at the top of this thread. Soooooo, the question remains whether there is some way I can get the font back to where it once was WITHOUT downgrading my iWork apps to the new ones? Thanks in advance for any thoughtful suggestions.

  • After Device update, phone keeps restarting + occa...

    I installed Anna through the Device update first, then the problems started happening. My N8 restarts every 10 minutes, so I technically cannot do anything with it. Tried to install the Anna 1/2, 2/2 updates and only 2/2 installed, error with 1/2. I also occasionally get an error message at startup: phone start-up failed. Contact the retailer. Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Try to connect your device with OVI suite then click reinstall update if this doesn't work you have to take it for nearest Nokia Care Point

    I am in Lisbon, Portugal, and since last week I am a new Nokia customer, when my son and daughter offered me a beautiful NOKIA N95.
    I have used it for 2 days, with great satisfaction!
    But, on Saturday, following the Nokia recommendation to do the firmware update, I decided to do it, before adding new personal data to the phone. So I would avoid backups and restores, eventually lost of data. Four years ago I did a firmware update with my brand new Palm T3 PDA and till today everything is ok.
    The battery was fully charged and everything done just like Nokia says in the site and manual. It took about one hour downloading the 113 MB software, then about five minutes updating (the phone with white screen and the Nokia logo) and then I got the PC screen stating: "PC connection to Phone was lost".
    The phone screen turned black and I tried to follow the screen instructions, but without success.
    I am a business man and senior consultant with important responsibilities in the Marketing, Education and Project Management areas in Portugal, and you can imagine the difficulties and frustration I have had, as I planned this week a very important presentation which includes the benefits for students, teachers and parents in using such a device as a Nokia N95 in many of their current activities in school and/or in family.
    On 12.06.2007 I was at Lisbon's Nokia Care Center. Talking with the manager, Mr Carlos Martins, he told me that they would keep the phone for diagnostics (no matter the time) and that the service should be paid.
    I explained that it was not my fault – I only accepted Nokia’s recommendation and followed strictly the procedures that Nokia advises in its support site and manual.
    Then, to my surprise, I got such answer: “You have another way to resolve your problem: you can go the ‘Centro de Arbitragem de Consumo’, a kind of a small Consumer Court, to issue a claim against Nokia”.
    With such a great opportunity to win a very satisfied Customer, your services, in Portugal, can only show the negative attitude mentioned above! Is your Care Centre, in Lisbon, really caring for your Clients?
    If you were the Client would you be satisfied?
    I think that the Lisbon Care Center is showing some lack of kindness and respect for Clients.
    These are the reasons by which I send you this letter, asking for your help. For example, telling (or forwarding this message to) someone important in NOKIA GROUP. I have already sent the log of the update process to NOKIA Finland.

    The reason that the official software update crashes and screws your world up is because Nokia want you to spend your hard earned monies on a "shiny new product".
    This problem has happened to me a few months ago now but hopefully i can shed some light upon this gloomy subject.
    Basically there is no easy fix and the phone needs to be re-flashed...
    When the update was running and abruptly stopped it was updating files in the phones (for lack of a better word) BIOS
    thus without these files being present the phone is how it was when it first rolled off the production line.... ready for flashing by an operative.... its dead, useless, unsightly and who would want a very expensive paperweight thats meant to have functions but doesn't??
    The only way to fix is to contact a care centre (which are quite frustrating to talk to via email due to it being like a game of chinese whispers whilst you are bounced back and forth through different departments and line managers) or by spending a pretty penny on a peice of kit (for FLASHING mobile phones) called JAFBOX (with additional extras) and re-flashing the phone yourself.... but i recommend visiting local shops that specialise in unlocking as its the same kind of principal and they would have the necessary software / hardware for the cause... or they would in a perfect, non capitalistic world! 
    im in the market for a new phone now either way =( and for once it might not be a NOKIA after the current fiasco!!!!
    NOTE:-
    THE MANUAL RESET(s) WILL ONLY WORK IF IT IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE PHONES "BIOS"
    you can tell if the phone needs flashing by one simple test,
    turn the phone on,
    if there is a nokia logo and no backlight and the phone progresses no further (i.e. you don't ever get to the "handshake" logo) then it most likely needs re-flashing

    A few weeks ago I replaced the broken screen, and all worked perfect. Ever since I installed this damn update, it doesn't work anymore.

  • Outlook calendar wiped out and won't sync after device update to 5.0

    I recently got a new laptop at work and had to reinstall the Blackberry Desktop Manager from the web.  Upon opening it suggested I download an update for my device to 5.0, so I did.  Ever since then, it wiped out my Outlook calendar at work when I synced but updated my device with all the events but it will not sync back to my Outlook.  I have since uninstalled and reinstalled the BB Desktop Manager several times but the sync always gets as far updating my device then I get a popup saying an error occurred and needs to close BB Desktop Manager.  If I don't hit close on that error, the sync continues then stops as soon as it gets to updating Outlook.  I REALLY need to get my Outlook calendar back up-to-date bc it is for work and ppl need to view my calendar to setup meetings. 
    How can I revert back to the previous version of my device using my device since I don't have a backup on my laptop from when I updated it????

    If none of the apps that you've downloaded from the App Store are working, but the Apple built-in ones are, then try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.

  • Earthlink WebMail dead in Firefox after FlashPlayer update, rolling it back did not fix it

    On 9/5/12 Adobe Flash player installed and ruined my computer. The main attack was to prevent Earthlink WebMail activity. It comes on screen, but clicking any link or on "Reply" causes the tab to disappear and you're back on your desktop. I rolled Flash Player back to version 10 but the damage was not fixed. Earthlink will not function on Firefox any more.

    i have Balckberry Bold 9780 and 3 days Ago After upgrade App world i found the App Icon disappear although the program allreday installed.i tried many things like:
    1- Pull the battery from Device and restart again.
    2- try to find if icon is hide at each folder.
    3-remove the app world and try to install it again.
    4- try ro remove the app world and download older version but when i try this step always got the newest version.
    5-i can't download any program now and i got a message" our apologize ,although your browser can acsess application world but u can't continue downlod.
    Realy I got frustrated and i need your kind help

    The link provided above is the link to download App World ver.4.0.0.55. But if you are having problem then try it :
    First On your Homescreen Go to Options > Device > Application Management > Locate BlackBerry App World , then highlight App world press the menu key > then delete.
    After Deleting Do a battery pull Restart like this device POWERED ON remove the battery wait a min. then re-insert it back.     This all depends on your carrier. All carriers are different on what version of software they release.
