Dealing with times (hours, minutes)

I am trying to find a way to format a column to contain time, in hours and minutes, not time of day. So far I can only find formatting for date and time of day. I would like to be able to sum the time values. The times represent duration of my bike rides and I would like to sum these values. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

  • What's best strategy for dealing with 40+ hours of footage

    We have been editing a documentary with 45+ hours of footage and presently have captured roughly 230 gb. Needless to say it's a lot of files. What's the best strategy for dealing with so much captured footage? It's almost impossible to remember it all and labeling it while logging it seems inadequate as it difficult to actually read comments in dozens and dozens of folders.
    Just looking for suggestions on how to deal with this problem for this and future projects.
    G5 Dual Core 2.3   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   2.5 g ram, 2 internal sata 2 250gb

    Ditto, ditto, ditto on all of the previous posts. I've done four long form documentaries.
    First I listen to all the the sound bytes and digitize only the ones that I think I will need. I will take in much more than I use, but I like to transcribe bytes from the non-linear timeline. It's easier for me.
    I had so many interviews in the last doc that I gave each interviewee a bin. You must decide how you want to organize the sound bytes. Do you want a bin for each interviewee or do you want to do it by subject. That will depend on you documentary and subject matter.
    I then have b-roll bins. Sometime I base them on location and sometimes I base them on subject matter. This last time I based them on location because I would have a good idea of what was in each bin by remembering where and when it was shot.
    Perhaps, you weren't at the shoot and do not have this advantage. It's crucial that you organize you b-roll bins in a way that makes sense to you.
    I then have music bins and bins for my voice over.
    Many folks recommend that you work in small sequences and nest. This is a good idea for long form stuff. That way you don't get lost in the timeline.
    I also make a "used" bin. Once I've used a shot I pull it out of the bin and put it "away" That keeps me from repeatedly looking at footage that I've already used.
    The previous posts are right. If you've digitized 45 hours of footage you've put in too much. It's time to start deleting some media. Remember that when you hit the edit suite, you should be one the downhill slide. You should have a script and a clear idea of where you're going.
    I don't have enough fingers to count the number of times that I've had producers walk into my edit suite with a bunch of raw tape and tell me that that "want to make something cool." They generally have no idea where they're going and end up wondering why the process is so hard.
    Refine your story and base your clip selections on that story.
    Good luck

  • Save date with precision (Hour, Minutes, seconds ) using V.O.

    Hi all,
    I'm using Jdeveloper 11g.
    I have an Entity object with a column called 'createdOn' of type Date and an entity based View Object with the same type.
    I'm trying to save today's Date with precision (day, month, year, hour, minutes, seconds) Using the view Object, but when I look in the Data Base, always appears the date without time.
    Here is my code in the application Module to save the data, I've tried some things but nothing...
    First I've tried using oracle.jbo.domain.Date, and I've tryed using Calendar as well. Nothing with
    ViewObjectImpl voSample = getSamples1View1();
    //Date creation for View Object
    oracle.jbo.domain.Date today = new Date(Date.getCurrentDate());
    //Calendar today = Calendar.getInstance();
    //loop through the list of samples (TESTGROUPTYPES), and create the objects
    while( it.hasNext())
    Row rowSample = voSample.createRow();
    SequenceImpl sequence = new SequenceImpl("SAMPLES_SEQ", voSample.getApplicationModule());
    rowSample.setAttribute("SampleId", sequence.getSequenceNumber());
    rowSample.setAttribute("CollectionId", stCollectionId);
    rowSample.setAttribute("TestgroupType",it.next());
    rowSample.setAttribute("UnitId",stUnitId);
    rowSample.setAttribute("SampleStatus", "ORDERED");
    rowSample.setAttribute("SampleBackup", "false");
    rowSample.setAttribute("CreatedOn", today);
    voSample.insertRow(rowSample);
    voSample.getApplicationModule().getTransaction().commit();
    Any help will be usefull,
    thanks in advance

    Hello John,
    yes, I changed the date mask using
    alter session set NLS_DATE_FORMAT='DD/MM/YYYY-hh24:mi:ss'
    if i execute to_char(<date_column>, 'YY-MON-DD HH:MI:SS') on that column, the result is:
    09-MAY-27 12:00:00
    09-MAY-27 12:00:00
    09-MAY-27 12:00:00
    To launch the queries and see the results I'm using the JDeveloper's SQL WorkSheet.
    I can update the data and time and the time persists in the DB
    08-FEB-26 08:07:56
    so, i think there's something in hte EO, VO or App Module method that I'm doing wrong...

  • Dealing with time code breaks on the source tape

    Some of my source tapes have broken time code, because of "empty space" between recordings. What's the best way to deal with that if you want to be able to automatically recapture video from a tape?
    Thanks.

    There are a few possible solutions depending on what you need from the tapes.
    You can dupe the whole tape onto another camera or deck (via firewire), or use capture now to grab the whole tape. You'll need to edit the preferences to only warn on timecode breaks, and not create new clips at breaks.
    You could also set the FCP capture controls to be a 'non-controllable device', this means you need to hit play on the deck and use 'capture now' in the log and capture window. The only problem with this is that the timecode is not from the tapes, it is generated by FCP to fix the breaks, so batch re-capturing won't work (bad news if the breaks mash up the audio etc).
    Duping the tapes can be done by using just one camera and your mac. Capture via the 'non controllable' device method above. Then drop the footage into a sequence and then print that to tape. Then use this tape to capture from & you have footage that will recapture at a later date if needed.
    Timecode is a real pain if you have many breaks, duping is often the easiest solution.

  • Field with time in minutes and seconds

    Dear community,
    first of all, I am using Apex 3.1 on Oracle 10g, if this is necessary to know (yes I know, an old version, but given by the company I'm working for). After I've developed a few applications in Apex, thank to the forum and all the answers inside, I came to a problem that I could not solve:
    I want to have a normal text field, where the user can enter a duration of an event (e.g. "3:45" or "2:30"). That duration will allways be in the format "MM:SS". No hours, no milliseconds... But how can I save the given values in the database, so in which format? A varchar would be a possibility, but I want to build a report later on, where there is a sum of the times. And how to get a sum of varchar?! But how to make it clear to Apex and Oracle DB that the users gives in a time and not a varchar? The only thing oracle offers is a date field, but I want to save a time and not a date!
    Does anybody has a clue for me, cause it seems to me, that possibly I just don't know what I'm searching for, cause people must have had this problem before!?
    THanks for your help!
    Regards
    hoge

    But how to make it clear to Apex and Oracle DB that the users gives in a time and not a varchar? The only thing oracle offers is a date field, but I want to save a time and not a date!All APEX items are character strings, so implicit or explicit conversion is required when the values are stored in database columns. For the recommended <tt>INTERVAL DAY TO SECOND</tt> columns, use <tt>TO_DSINTERVAL</tt> to perform the conversion.
    Use <tt>EXTRACT</tt> to get the minute and second values from the <tt>INTERVAL</tt> going in the other direction.
    but I want to build a report later on, where there is a sum of the times.A user-defined aggregate function can be created to sum <tt>INTERVAL DAY TO SECOND</tt> values: here's an example.
    APEX's lack of built-in support for summaries on <tt>INTERVAL</tt> types can be worked round by including the sum in the report query using a </tt>UNION</tt>:

  • Sum of Time "Hours & Minutes" in stardard list

    Hi,
    in list where it's possible to have a sum of time (as in my case transaction IW47, list of confirmation time), I can make as usual the sum of time but the system let separated hours from minutes having as result e.g.:
    32 hrs
    412 min
    is there any standard possibility to sum them in only 1 unit of measure?
    Thanks.

    sorry, but is not a SAPGUI question. you should ask this in the proper functional area or in the ABAP forum.

  • Dealing with time-keeping and changing entries

    Hi everyone, I'm working on a project for school, and I have to develop a database that works somewhat like eBay. Only instead of auctions users create and place bets.
    My question is, how would I go about implementing some sort of function that will allow me to change the status of a table entry once its BetTime (or in the case of eBay, Bid Life) ends?
    an example of this would be:
    BetID BetCreationTime BetEndTime Status
    000 12:00 BetCreationTime + 5 hours OPEN
    001 3:00 BetCreationTime + 8 hours OPEN
    5 hours after Bet 000 is created (5:00), it must change status to CLOSED. The same goes for bet 001 8 hours after it is created (at 11:00)

    Have a play with this Example in SQL and PL/SQL. Note that I do not want to store my STATUS because I need to get it at runtime.
    SQL> CREATE TABLE BET

    Is there a way to change the specific time when subscriptions to podcasts are downloaded?  I seem to be locked in to 6:29 pm.
    Thanks.

    i have the same problem. i bought a new external hard drive and i am trying to move my entire library onto it. i copied all of my itunes library onto it but when i tried to delete a song off of my initial C: drive to test it, i had to go in an individually change where the songs location was. i already tried changing where the itunes music folder was located however the library still says its located on the C: drive.

  • Best way to deal with time

    Hi !
    I have a time 00:12:30.456 which I want to convert to a time 676 milli seconds later. I know I can do this by calculating each part of the time, but is there a java object one can use to do it simpler?
    Thank You!

    Thank you both for your answers!
    I see one has to twist to be able to do time calculation not specific to a date in java. It is not so difficult making a class to do this, but it would have been nice if java had a standard API for it.
    It should have been something like:
    Time t=new Time("00:00:00.000");   //starting point
    t.addSeconds(66);
    t.write("HH:MM:SS.MS");This would produce:
    00:01:06.000

  • Time - Calculating "Minutes Per MIle"

    For years, I have using an Excel spreadsheet to input my running times. I have a column for "miles", one for "Time" (hours, minutes, second using a "date" cell format) and a column entitled "Minutes per Mile." The formula for obtaining the Minutes per Mile is simple: Miles/Time or "=D15/D14" for example. But when I import my Excel file into Numbers, it cannot correctly populate the "Minutes per Mile" cell. A warning message states: "the Operator "/" expects a number, but cell D14 contains a date."
    How can I make this work in Numbers?

    Thank you, Terry but it still doesn't work. I had to modify the formula you gave me as follows:
    =C15/(TIMEVALUE(D15)*1440)
    C15 is the actual number of miles, for example 13.4 (this cell is formatted as a number); D15 is total time of the run (hopefully you refer to this as the Minutes column), 2:37:57 AM (this cell is formated as Time using the cell inspector as you suggested); and E15 is the minutes per mile (this is also formatted as Time). When I insert the formula into cell E15, I receive an answer of 0.09. I don't know what that means; the time should have been 11:47 meaning 11 minutes and 47 seconds per mile. Am I formatting the cells incorrectly or is it the formula? I tried opening the Excel file in a program called NeoOffice and the calculation worked just fine. This is driving me crazy. Can you give me some more assistance? Finally, you are talking about "Numbers" not "Pages", right!

    Hi
    I have started migration système to transfert from hold Macbook pro to New MacBook air
    Application starter successfully for several hours.
    But since more than 3 hours I got the message "transferring Time zone paramètres " with time left less than 1 minute.
    Any recommendation or suggestion to solve it ?
    Many tanks

    If it has run for 3 hours it's probably done and you can quit Migration Assistant and reboot the new computer. In the future rather than using Migration Assistant I would recommend using Startup Assistant which tends to be a bit more reliable and does not create a new user account as MA does. If  you're interested here is an article explaining Setup Assistant tips.

  • How to deal with deadlock on wwv_flow_data table when http server times out

    There are some threads about a deadlock on the wwv_flow_data table. None of them contain a real explanation for this behaviour. In my case I will try to explain what I think is happening. Maybe it helps somebody who is hitting the same matter.
    In my case with APEX 3.2.1 I am navigating from one page to another. Doing this APEX will lock the table wwv_flow_data. As soon as the other page is shown the lock will be released. But now this other page contains a bad performing query (standaard report region). After 5 minutes the http server (modplsql) will time out and present the message "No response from the application server" on the screen. In the meanwhile the query is still running on the database server and the lock stays on the wwv_flow_data table.
    Normal user behaviour will be that the user will use the back button to return to the previous page and tries it again to navigate to the other page or
    the user will try to refresh the page with the bad performing query.
    And voila now you will have a deadlock on the wwv_flow_data table since a second session is trying to do the same thing while the first hasn't finished yet.
    How to deal with it?
    First of all. Have a good look at the bad performing query. Maybe you can improve it that it will succeed before the http server will timeout.
    In my case the 11gr1 optimizer couldn't handle a subquery factoring clause in the best way. After changing it back to a classical inline query the problem was solved.
    Secondly you could increase the timeout parameter of the http server. Although this not the best way.
    Maybe it would better if APEX in a next version would release the lock on the table wwv_flow_date earlier or do a rollback just before the moment that the http server is timing out.

    Mathieu Meeuwissen

    Hello Shmoove,
    I saw your reply here and you probably understand the problems the HTTP 100 response may cause.
    I am trying to send image that was taken by getSnapshot. The problem is that the server respond with this HTTP 100 message.
    I suspect that the reason that my server doesn't recognize the file that I'm sending from J2me is that the "server to client" response to the 100 message comes after the second message of (see what the TCPIP viewer shows down here):

  • How do I deal with project bloat? Long Save time is getting worse?

    Here are the FB posts I have got about this issue. I tried to paste them neatly but didn't work.
    To be honest I am baffled that such an advanced NLE has so many issues. There should be a warning about the Warp Stabilizer messing up a project I had no idea till now.
    This was my question to a PP user group on FB.
    I am cutting a 60+ minute doc with lots of source material and the project takes a dogs age to save now which is beginning to interrupt my workflow. I would have thought the save would take less time depending on how much work was done since the last save. I suppose working with Proxies might be the solution but I am already 70% done.
    Here are the responses
    Saving the project file on an SSD might be a good idea.
    Your project size is slowing you down. Create a couple of projects, each containing a part of the footage. Organized in bins as needed. Call them footage projects. Create an other project named edit and cut in there. Use the media browser to browse the footage projects. Import what you need and use search bins to keep it organized.
    If you didn't transcode your footage before you started the project it could be part of the problem. And like the other post says only having the footage you are currently working on will also help. The claim that you don't have to transcode when working in Premiere is misleading because in most cases when working with many different source codecs transcoding will always improve your computers performance.
    I had the exact same experience cutting a 90 min feature with 120 hours of Pro Res 4444 footage. Long save times are caused by project bloat, either by having too many assets loaded or a lot of warp stabilizer effects applied. Transcoding will only affect playback performance and exports - it doesn't sound like it's the problem in this case.
    only some codecs (4K GoPro, 6K R3D, lengthy h264/AVCHD clips for example) benefit from transcoding and will be snappier and playback smoother. But transcoding will never ever help the loading or saving time of your project
    Don't apply warp stabilizsr to everything. All those coordinates get stored in project file
    All I can say is that I worked on a Premiere project in November where my computer spent up to 5-7 minutes scanning through all the different directories with footage after the project was open before I could play back the sequences in my project. I ha...
    some of the ftg is in need of stabilization so I did use the warp stabilizer but not excessively. 15 x 3-10 second clips. Is there a way of managing the storage of the coordinates too minimize the hit on the project size?
    nope. Try importing existing project into a new project.
    I usually stabilize footage in a separate project to avoid huge project files, and export the stabilized result. Then I use the stabilized version in the main project.
    I also work with Nested Sequences a lot. Working in short, manageable timelines. When opening a large project, Premiere will find the footage for the active sequence first, so I can start working quickly, while Premiere is still finding the rest of the footage.
    Could do your warp stabilizing in AE and export renders of them, then import those renders into your project so the are just media files instead of files with stabilizer tracking points.

    That would be something like  the advice I would have given
    and  more likely...
    Save heavy duty  FX application until after you have locked down your edit. (eg Blurs , Warp, 3rd party FX(MB)
    I Create separate sequences or Duplicate Projects for many reasons.  eg CC/Grade  and
    Warp Stabiliser ...definitely.  Its even has a slow save  impact on After Effects Projects!
