Debugging InDesign Plug-ins

Dear all,
When I attempt to debug my InDesign plug-ins in VStudio 2005, I get the following message:
"'Debugging information for 'InDesign.exe' cannot be found or does not match. No symbols loaded. Do you want to continue debugging?"
Is there any reason for this message to appear? Will it limit the debugging capabilities of VStudio?
Please advise.
Thanks,
m.

Hi m,
Your plugin is a DLL loaded by InDesign. Visual Studio will be able to identify your plugin, its variables, etc. but not so for InDesign itself, as it does not have a file that tells it about it.
So you will be able to see the source code, variables, etc. when your own code is running, but you will only see disassembled code and memory dumps when it jumps into InDesign itself.
This is natural. You would only have the symbols for InDesign if you worked at Adobe (or if Adobe kindly made them available to us - which it does not, according to my knowledge).

Trying to open a file someone sent me and a get the below message saying there is a plug-in missing... Where do I find the plug-ins?
    Thanks, Jack

    Hello jack,
best you will ask this "someone" about the missing plug-in. What concerns to get one or two, you could have a look at "Third-party plug-ins for InDesign" >>>

  • Indesign Plug-ins How to upgrade and install?

I have CS 5.5 Master Collection for a year now, and now that I am ready to use InDesign for the first time I can't open my files. I get a message that tells me to "upgrade your plug-ins, or get the latest InDesign version".
I'm not ready to shell out more money. Does anyone know where to find the said updates, and how to install them?
    thanks!

@SilverCarMan – it's very unlikely that the supposed CS4 file is really a CS4 file.
You could check which version the file is you are trying to open.

  • How do I update my InDesign plug-ins?

How do I update my plug-ins or my current version of InDesign CS4? I need to do this to open a document for my school newspaper. My computer won't open the document until I update the plug-ins or my version of InDesign. Will this cost money?

That document was likely created by a version of InDesign later than yours. CS4 is now 5 versions out of date.
Ask whoever sent it to you save it via IDML. Don’t count on a perfect conversion. Get a PDF as well.

  • Missing InDesign plug-ins after installing on new machine running WIN 7

After installing Adobe InDesign CS3 (version 5.0) on a new computer running Windows 7 Professional, InDesign cannot open a file I created 30 days ago on a machine running the same version of InDesign and Windows XP Professional.  I repeat, there have been no changes in InDesign versions !!
    The error message indicates a boat load of plug-ins are missing.  The first error message indicates WORLDREADY.RPLN and CONDITIONALTEXT.RPLN were missing.  After clicking OK, the second error message indicates these plug-ins are missing: ASSIGNMENTS.RPLN, TEXT.RPLN, SPREAD.RPLN, MASTERPAGE.RPLN, IMAGE.RPLN, TEXTATTRIBUTES.RPLN, GENERICPAGEITEM.RPLN, TEXTWRAP.RPLN, CJKTEXTATTRIBUTES.RPLN, SCRIPTING.RPLN, LINKS.RPLN, INCOPYSHARED.RPLN, XLM.RPLN, CJKGRID.RPLN, TOC.RPLN, INDEXING.RPLN, HPERLINKS.RPLN, PACKAGEANDPREFLIGHT.RPLN, WORKGROUP.RPLN, APPFRAMEWORK.RPLN, and DOCUMENTFRAMEWORK.RPLN.
From the Help menu within InDesign, I click Updates.  A series of updates for all my Adobe software were installed, bringing inDesign CS3 to version 5.0.4 yet
InDesign still refuses to open my previously created file.
The only other suggestion your help files suggest is upgrading my inDesign software to CS5 to which my company will not agree.
    HELP !!!!

The file properties are shown in the attached screen shot indicating InDesign CS3 was used not CS4 or CS5.  Does anyone have any other suggestions?

  • CS6 InDesign plug-ins not loading when launching

I just purchased CS6 Standard. when launching InDesign, the adobe plug-ins are not loading causing error messages. I have re-installed twice, but get the  same error messages. At the end of several error messages, I get
'Cannot open resourse file." Can anyone help me?

I'm a little confused with what you write. There is a difference between extensions and Plug-ins.  Plug-ins are installed using the plug-ins installer and extensions are installed by "Adobe Extension Manager (version)" where version is the Photoshop version and the extension package must be created for that particular Photoshop version.  A CS5 package will not work in CS6 etc.   Installed extensions will be listed in Photoshop under menu Windows>Extensions>List of them.  Plug-in may install in the Filters menu or a place like menu File>Automate>Names.  Installed Extensions that you installed should also show in the  "Adobe Extension Manager (version)" window. Adobe installed extensions like Kuler and Mini Bridge do not show in the "Adobe Extension Manager (version)" window.

  • How do I update InDesign plug-ins?

    Hello,
I'm fairly new to InDesign and a complete novice regarding plug-ins. I'm trying to open someone else's InDesign file I was given, in InDesign CS4. I believe the file was also created in InDesign CS4, however it won't open. The message says:
Cannot Open File..... .indd. Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign.
And lists about 20 or more plug-ins.
Can anyone please guide me on how to resolve this? Simple, clear steps would be greatly appreciated as I'm not very techy.
    Muchos gracias!

Thanks heaps for your reply. You may be right that it's a CS5/5/5 file, which is what I'd guessed, but I'm a little curious because when I look at the file in column view on my Mac, in the little Preview window it says: Kind: InDesignCS4 Document. Is this possibly incorrect? Perhaps because my computer won't recognize anything beyond CS4 being that's what it has installed?

  • Problems with InDesign Plug-ins in CS6

Every time I launch InDesign CS6 a bunch of pop-up boxes appears. They all have to do with some plug-ins it cannot register. I think this causes the sudden shut down of the program when I want to pick a different color.?
Anybody knows how to fix this?
These are the plug-ins it concerns:
    Color Picker Panel plug-in
    Swatches Panel plug-in
    Transparency UI plug-in
    Find and Change Panel plug-in
I am certain that the plug-ins are in the right folders, however it does not work...
    Thanx

See Replace Your Preferences and if that doesn't do it, see Adobe Forums: InDesign crashes at startup for a list of other things to delete from the original account.
When all else fails, rename the Adobe folders in your user library (remmber, there are TWO folders, anf they're hidden, so see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion) and copy the ones from the guest account.

  • InDesign Plug ins or update?

I got a document today from a customer that i could not open. I have InDesign 5.0 and i think they have 5.5.
    My computer says this:
Could not open document. Update plugin-programs or change to newest version of InDesign"
    Missing plugins are:
    FormField.IndesignPlugin
    XML.IndesignPlugin
    Generic Page Item.IndesignPlugin
    Text.IndesignPlugin
    Hyperlinks.IndesignPlugin
    Document Framework.IndesignPlugin
    Graphics.IndesignPlugin
Do i need to upgrade my InDesign-program or can i just get the plugins? If so, were do i go do download?

No, you will have to update. As a minor, download the CS5.5 trial and see, if it can open the file.

  • [CS5] replacement for Configure Plug-ins

It appears that the (truly terrible, at least on the Mac) Adobe Extension Manager (AEM) CS5 is supposed to be the replacement for the "Configure Plug-ins" dialog and the Porting Guide does briefly talk about using it to Deploy plug-ins.
However, if I install my plug-in(s) without using AEM using an alias or directly into the Plug-ins folder then it doesn't appear in AEM at all. This particular plug-in doesn't have a UI so need for my support people to see at least a version number.
Can anyone point to some documentation on how to make your plug-ins appear in the AEM list?
It also doesn't appear that the Debug version of InDesign even appears in the AEM list of applications.

    Adam,
We aren't going to force our users to have to deploy using Adobe Extensions Manager and all of the InDesign plug-ins appear there. Maybe I just need to start looking at what they are doing to figure out what is going on.
Thanks for the suggestion though, that is essentially what I did yesterday as a workaround.

  • Using PDFSharp in InDesign plug-in

    Hello
Has any body been successful using the PDFSharp.dll in InDesign plug-ins
    Thank you in advance,

    Hi Dirk,
    Thank you for your response.
I was reading all these days about the IPDFPlacePrefs. And the desciption from the SDK manual is:
<IPDFPlacePrefs. Public interface used to remember the PDF place options.
This interface is used by the PDF place code to hold the settings the user selects in the PDF options dialog.>
There is a function called GetAllPages, with the description: <Method to get the total pages of the PDF and whether all pages are being placed.>
I did made it to work for example: to place a cpecific page from the pdf. But I do not know how to implement it in order to get the information from the PDF option dialog (if that optoin is checked by the user). If you know any solution around that please give me a hint, so then I can use the GetAllPages function.
As per page width and page height yes I have to place it and then measure the frame box. But if I have to know per each page (just to make sure they are the same size) then it is not the best solution.
Acording to the external library PDFShap is made on C# and maby for that thing to work I have to enable the /clr in the plug-in options, and doing that I can not build the plug in.
Instead of that I did try succesfully an other library QuickPDFLite. Just placed (QuickPDFLite0812.h, QuickPDFLite0812.cpp) in my code and I get page count from pdf, and page width and height.
But since InDesign has all that information in the PDF option dialog why not use that. I think the key is the IPDFPlacePrefs. I know how to set those preferences, but I was not successfull geting and reading the information from it. If you know how, please advice me.
    I do thank you
    Best regards,
    Ervin

  • How do I upgrade/add plug-ins for my InDesign CS3?

Received InDesign file from a client to take and utilize some elements and add to the document design, etc. When I tried to open it would not let me -- gave me 2 lists of a number of plug-ins that my client has on their version of InDesign. Haven't upgraded anything on my InDesign in few years. I am working on iMac with OS X 10.4.11 system. What is available to me on my system.
    Thank you.
    Design-JJA

That file was created in a later version of InDesign. You are now 6 versions out of date and saving back to CS3 is going to be nearly impossible.
To upgrade you’ll probably need a new computer.
