Debugging PL/SQL using JDeveloper

Hi all,
I'm running JDeveloper 10.1.3.2.0 on Windows XP (32-bit) SP2 connecting to a Oracle 10g 10.2.1.0 (64-bit) on UNIX.
I have compiled the packages and procedure using JDeveloper and can run the procedure using SQL*Plus but I when I try to run the procedure in JDeveloper
the "Run PL/SQL" dialogue appears, the Messages window shows: "Connecting to the database oradb01". I click OK and nothing seems to happen.
I have been told by my DBA that I have all the prerequisites to debug PL/SQL so I wonder if I am missing something. Can anyone help?
Thanks all,
LG

Brilliant. Thanks Shay,
The only thing I wasn't sure about was that I tried to use the IP address of my workstation (from ipconfig) in the DBMS_DEBUG_JDWP.CONNECT_TCP procedure and for some reason it wouldn't work, so I used the Windows full computer name instead and it worked fine.

  • Remote debugging in OC4J using JDeveloper

    I need to remote debug into a stand-alone OC4J using JDeveloper 10.1.3.1.0. The documentation says the following:
    In the <jdev_install>/jdev/lib directory, copy ojc.jar and jdev-remote.jar to <OC4J_HOME>/home/lib.
    I can't find directory "<OC4J_HOME>/home/lib" in the stand-alone OC4J? That is, a "home" directory does not exist in the above location. To where should I copy ojc.jar and jdev-remote.jar ?

    Shay,
    JDeveloper gives an error when deploying my EJB after starting an OC4J for debugging. In contrast, JDeveloper does successfully deploy my EJB if I start OC4J using "D:\jdev10131\jdev\bin\start_oc4j.bat".
    Note that I'm able to start my standalone OC4J successfully after setting the following in a command window:
    1. Start a Microsoft Windows command window.

  • Error in remote debugging pl/sql with JDeveloper 10.1.3

    I'm doing remote debugging of some of my pl/sql packages with JDeveloper and I get the following error:
    DECLARE
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [15419], [severe error during PL/SQL
    execution], [], [], [], [], [], []

    ORA-06553: PLS-707: unsupported construct or internal error [2603]
    When I run this code without the debugger, everything works fine.
    Any idea how to solve this problem?
    Thanks and kind regards
    Uwe

    Hi Lee,
    thanks for your reply.
    My java_pool_size is 32M, and I found out that this seems to be sufficient (means, the pl/sql internal error does not show up) as long as some of my pl/sql packages are not compiled in DEBUG mode.
    The pl/sql package I'm debugging are owned by user A and it calls procedures of a pl/sql package that is owned by a different user B. Calling B's procedures from within A causes the error, if the packages of B are compiled in DEBUG mode. If they are compiled ordinary, debugging A's packages works fine, even with the small java_pool_size.
    During the checks I repeately increased java_pool_size up to 256M, but the problem was persisting, as long as B's packages were compiled DEBUG.
    As I get the whole picture only if A's and B's packages are debugged together, I like to ask for further help.
    Thanks and Kind Regards
    Uwe

  • How do I connect the debugger for remotely debugging PL/SQL?

    Hi everyone,
    Remotely debugging PL/SQL from JDeveloper and SQL Developer is something I have tried unsuccessfully to do.
    The steps I took were to right-click my connection, select Remote Debug... and specify "4000" for the Port and "n.n.n.n" for the Local address which seems to correctly start the listener. (I used ipconfig to double-check the address.) Then, I run the anonymous block you see below.
    begin
    dbms_debug_jdwp.connect_tcp( 'n.n.n.n', 4000 );
    end;
    But, I always get the following error:

  • Trouble when creating webservice from PL/SQL via jdeveloper

    Hi,I'm new comer of this world,
    I've a pl/sql like this:
    package MY_WS_API is
    type record_set is ref cursor;
    PROCEDURE Get_User_Info(p_user_id VARCHAR2,
    p_rep_id VARCHAR2,
    p_flag out number,
    p_msg out varchar2,
    p_recordset out record_set);
    end MY_WS_API;
    when I using jdeveloper trying to publish it as a webservice, in the step 4 of the wizzard poping me choose the program unit to expose, the PROCEDURE Get_User_Info is not available and told me "Ref cursor Type is not supported due to a jdbc limitation and Ref Cursor Types are only supported for use of return type".
    THE QUESTION is:
    1.the cursor I used is of return type,I'm not very understanding the "why not" message upon.
    2.in such case , need I trans the return cursor into Object[] if have to?
    3.any other limitation for generating WS from PL/SQL using jdeveloper?
    Thanks!

    I had the same problem and found that JDeveloper uses the thin driver to connect to oracle, this driver doesn't support ref cursors or xmltypes etc. You have to assemble your own web service using the webservicesassembler command line utility (i.e. wsa.jar). This link should provide you with all you need:

  • Problems debugging Database Java remotely using JDeveloper 9i (9.04)

    I am currently working on a project where we are configuring a COTS product built onto a Oracle 9i database. The product has up versioned and changed its architecture considerably to support Java on the database as well as PL/SQL in the form of an API set. My team are writing custom code to meet the clients requirements and are all proficient PL/SQL developers and have experience with Java but we are having real trouble developing and testing our code in the same way we used to in PL/SQL using tools such as TOAD and PL/SQL Developer. I have invested some time in working out how to remote debug our Java code and have had some success with JDeveloper but have run into the following issues:
    1. I am unable to add Java objects or variables to the Watch but can view PL/SQL variables.
    2. The reported execution of the code seems inaccurate, i.e. often when I step into the Java code, I receive an exception that prevents me for continuing but suggests little about what has gone wrong.
    3. In general, debugging is a very hit or miss affair and does not appear to be a worthwhile tool in fixing code.
    Has anyone managed to set up Jdeveloper so that it is as proficient as TOAD or the like in debugging Java and can suggest how to resolve these issues?

    Did this work for you ?
    Willem,
    You might want to try connecting to your database purely from Java.
    Here's a class that you use to connect to hr/hr. (providing that its unlocked)
    This is part of a bigger class that is used in a demo app for Oracle XE.
    You'll need to create another class( such as Main.java) that has a main() method which instantiates this class and calls its getAllEmployees() method.
    You can then debug this code to see what the problem is..
    Hope this helps..

    The windows firewall on this machine is currently blocking remote debugging.
    According the message, the following ports need to be enabled for remote debugging. Use the procedure that is described in the section
    Configuring a Port in Windows Firewall to enable the following ports through Windows Firewall:
    Ports
    Protocol
    135
    TCP
    Required
    500, 4500
    UDP
    Required if your domain policy requires   network communication to be performed through IPSec.

  • Using JDeveloper  for Apps(GL/AR/AP/OM/INV)

    Hi,
    I'm in a project to implement Oracle Apps 11i, GL/AR/AP/OM/INV/++ modules.
    We have a lot of extensions to do (more than 1500 days-man).
    We use AIM and, accordingly, we suggested the client to use the standard development tools for an Apps implementation: Designer, Headstart, Forms, Reports,Discoverer and PL/SQL as programming language.
    The client wants to have all the development done in Java.
    If I'm not mistaken, we can use in this case Designer, JHeadstart, JDeveloper and Java.
    My questions are:
    1. Is there any showstopper in doing the extensions in Java in an Apps implementation project (with only back-end modules, not iStore, eProcurement, nor SelfService)?
    2. What are the Pro and Cons in doing this in an Apps implementation project ?
    3. Is there anybody out there who has done this crazy thing before ?
    Thanks a lot.
    Horia Nica

    Horia,
    Are we talking about developing the User Interface in Java (Swing Client) or are we talking about JSP/Servlet?
    Are these extension independent of Oracle Applications or is the requirement to be able to communicate back and forth between screens (i.e. between Forms based application and the new screens)?
    For your information, the Self Service applications in the eBusiness suite are developed using JDeveloper and BC4J (sometimes reusing the same PL/SQL business logic between back end applications and Self Service) so I don't see anything crazy in using Java and JDeveloper to develop Oracle Applications extensions.
    However, I would suggest to post the question on the eBusiness Suite forum to make sure that you respect what Oracle Applications define in their guidelines for building extensions.
