Debugging web apps? jsp/servlet/ejb

I just went through debugging hell and wish to find an environment where I
          can step through my
code line by line. Is this possible with web apps? JBuilder interests me,
but it seems that I would need the Enterprise edition and it is pretty
          spendy. What else is available?
          Thanks

    Hi,
What is that you are trying to accomplish ? Is it deployment or
trying to develop applications ? Are you getting any errors ? If so,
please post them to help you. I think the documentation is the best place
    for you to begin with.

  • Best way to see changes done to jsps/servlets/ejb/xmls in EAR

I am using iPlanet app server with iPlanet web server. Everytime i make any change jsp/servlet/ejb i have to redeploy whole ear application again. This takes a long time. Even when i use the "iasdeploy redployapp " command to deploy, it takes same amount of time as it takes for the orignal deployment.
So Is there any way to decrease the amount of the time it needs for me to re-deploy the applications when slight changes are made to application. I would really be thankful to anybody who can help me.

    Hi,
I am facing this problem with a simple EAR file also. It does not contain any EJBs.
It has just JSPs, XML, and JAVA Classes.
The file size is about 481Kb.
Earlier this used to get deployed using the "iasdeploy" command within 1 minute.
Now it is taking more than 5 minutes to deploy the EAR file.
I am using the following command :
    iasdeploy deployapp -verbose XYZ.ear
The same holds true for the "iasdeploy removeapp -verbose XYZ.ear" also.
    Please help.
    Thanks,

  • How to debug web app with weblogic?

I wrote a web app that includes jsp files and some javabeans, then I put the jsp files to directory
    mydomain\applications\DefaultWebApp
then I complied javabeans and put those classes to
    mydomain\applications\DefaultWebApp\WEB-INF\classes
Then I start the weblogic,it runs very well.
I modified some javabean, complie them and put classes override the old classes,
but the web app can not find the new classes.
Any one know How to debug web app(with javabeans) in weblogic?
    thanks!

how to config the hot deploy?
thxSorry, for this delay in responding. I had set notify me with email option in Watch This topic; but I never did get any email notification.
I use wls6.1; I think the process may be very similar to this in wls8.x. In wls6.1 (sp5), this is done via the -
    Dweblogic.ProductionModeEnabled=False or
    Dweblogic.ProductionModeEnabled=True
in the startup cmd/sh script. Out of the box, wls6.1 is set to Dweblogic.ProductionModeEnabled=False which automatically enables hot deploys.

  • Noob JSP + Servlet + EJB information for building J2EE simple web project.

I am new to Java. Covered basics and now jumping into making a simple web project. Project with functionality as below

Is it better approach to keep business logic in Beans instead of Servlet/JSP. Looked more robust and clean?Usually you should keep the business logic (i.e. code) away from JSPs. That's how things were done 10 years ago, now we know better. Servlets and JSP can be used together so that a servlet has the business logic and JSPs are just "dumb views".
EJBs will/can help you when you need to worry about transaction isolation.
Then there's the dozens of other Java frameworks used for web design (and other purposes).
And the learning curve is high because it's a huge chunk of different technologies. It'll take you months to get proficient, years to become good.
But if you just want to whip up some web pages quickly, look at JSP/JSTL and Servlets. That'll give you a clean, but basic approach.

  • Remote Debugging Web App

I have been trying to get remote debugging working on my web role but it will not connect. It worked once but since then it has not worked. It keeps telling me the following error:
The Microsoft Visual Studio Remote Debugging Monitor (MSVSMON.EXE) does not appear to be running on remote computer.
I have tried disabling my firewall and configuring the firewall to allow visual studio through but it has no effect. Remote debugging is enabled in the portal.

The website works fine. There were a lot of errors initially which I wanted to remote debug, but now it is going fine. I would just like the capability for the future. I looked into the eventlog.xml file and I found this:

  • Web login (JSP, Servlet) with roles and users list stored using db4o

    Dear all,
I would be grateful if someone of you (the masters out there) could help me with the build of an application where the first page will be a login page.
The users will be devided in 3 categories (user, editor, administrator) and there member information will be saved in db4o database.
If the user has not been registered in the past then a registration page should come up allowing him to be registered and keep his details in a db4o database on the same site.
I am using JSEE8 and the site will be sent to a Tomcat server on the net.

  • JSP Servlet Mapping  in web.xml

    Hi!
I have a JSP page by name "ContactUs.jsp" located in the folder <root>/jsp/info and I am using Tomcat Server. As I want to access this file using the URL "http://localhost:8080/<webapp>/ContactUs.jsp" instead of "http://localhost:8080/<webapp>/jsp/info/ContactUs.jsp". For this I added the follwing lines to web.xml file of my web app.
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>org.apache.jsp.jsp.info.ContactUs_jsp</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>org.apache.jsp.jsp.info.ContactUs_jsp</servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>org.apache.jsp.jsp.info.ContactUs_jsp</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/ContactUs.jsp</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
But I am getting the error saying that
    "ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.jsp.jsp.info.ContactUs_jsp"
Is there any thing else to be modified? Please help me.
    Thanks in advance
    Geethanadh.K

I'm no expert on this but I have a hunch. 1st of all, your using a servlet mapping for a JSP. That's good and well but it seems that the container is complaining that there is no servlet named org.apache.jsp.jsp.info.ContactUs_jsp. In other words it looks like the JSP has not been compiled. At least not yet. Maybe try two things. Visit the JSP once with a browser at it's actual path "http://localhost:8080/<webapp>/jsp/info/ContactUs.jsp" the coerce a page compile. Then try it with your new mapped path. You see, just telling the container that there is a servlet mapped to the new URL doesn't force the container to generate the class. Something or someone must generate the servlet class file.
Honestly, I'm not sure of what your end goal is but maybe you might consider using a JSP pre-compiler? Or even better, register a servlet at the mapped path that fowards all requests into the desired folder.

  • Two web apps using the same EJB client jar

I am currently deploying two web apps on a server. Both web apps use an EJB client
jar (the same jar) to access EJB's and both apps work when tested independently.
The problem arises when I log into app A and then log into app B. As soon as
I do app A loses it's references to the EJBHomes, and other classes.
It seems a classloader is unloading the first classes and instances loaded by
the first app and then loading them from app B's client.jar.
If I put the client.jar in the system classpath everything is fine, but that's
    just a hack.
Is it not possible to deploy two web apps on a server using the same client.jar's
    in their own WEB-INF/lib's?

    Joe,
As Pravin mentions, the checking of those boxes in Workbench triggers scheduled jobs within the EAC that kicks off the scripts at the appropriate time/day. But as you've noticed, there's not a ton of flexibility and you don't get cron or Windows Scheduler-type capabilities.
If you need to do something special, you can manually kick off the report generation scripts from your control directory using the runcommand.bat (or sh) script or place the command into a cron/Windows Scheduler job:
For example, to kick off the WeeklyReports job, you would do this:
runcommand.sh WeeklyReports runSo, assuming you go down the route of creating multiple ReportGenerators and scripts, you would create a job to kick off the new script you've created at the appropriate time.
    Hope that helps,
    Patrick

  • Web app security + JAAS

I'm working on the authentication/authorisation aspects of a fairly
large web application using WLS 6.0 (ie allowing users to login and
access resources based on role etc).
Its a standard JSP/Servlet/EJB type architecture and so far it seems
the FORM-based authentication will serve our needs well. However, I've
been instructed (by higher powers) to investigate JAAS authentication.
It looks far more complex to implement so my question is, does it
offer any significant advantages that justify the extra work?
    Thanks for your time.

  • HTML/Java/J2ee IDE / Dev WEB app

I am creating one web application using Java/J2EE. My web page would contain menu and sub menu system.
I have to use HTML/JSP/Servlet/EJB/SQL Server.
For HTML I am using dream weaver and for java code notepad.
I want to use some GUI tool to develop this application.
    1.     GUI for developing HTML page and text editor for Java code with drag and drop facility for HTML and JAVA/J2ee both with easy integration between these two technology components.
    Or
    2.     Any single GUI tool which provide HTML and JAVA/J2EE editor and drag and drop facility for HTML and JAVA/J2ee both.
    Please help me by suggesting!

Now, with all this added complexity, what was the
point. I kinda thought it was to create a standard, so
that deployment was easy.I agree that deployment is not as easy as you would like it to be. However most of this added complexity is to handle situations consistently. And nowadays there are plenty of tools available (my Company makes one), which can simplify the deployment.
Can anyone out there tell me why we should conform to
these standards if the web app servers
won't!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!That is not how it should be, I agree. While building OptimalJ (the tool we make)we experienced differences between app servers as well. However again, there are tools which make this easier for you (although I don't think they solve it completely yet...).
Hopefully we end up in a situation where all EAR files can be interchanged more easily.

    Michiel.

  • Need best-practice for Kodo web apps

Please forgive this question from a JDO newbie if it is already answered
elsewhere (if so please let me know, I can't find it)...
We are building an enterprise application consisting of multiple
cooperating web-apps, one servlet per web app. Following the classic MVC
pattern (using Struts) we have the servlets operating as controllers that
concurrently field requests from multiple users. In response to each
concurrent request the servlets instantiate the corresponding command
instances to process the requests. The command objects then interact with
a common shared model implemented as a collection of persistent "model"
objects and business rules. Finally, the commands then create java beans
that are sent to JSPs for display to the users.
No problem thus far - we have successfully used Kodo to implement the
architecture described above. To date we have used a single persistance
manager (PM) that is global to the servlets, existing as long as the
application is running. Although this works, I believe that it won't
scale for concurrent access by multiple users (correct me if I am wrong)
since a PM has one and only one database connection. Our concern however
is regarding persistance managers verses multiple user concurrent access
to the common model (i.e., one user can update information which is then
    displayed to all other users).
I believe the answer is in using multiple PMs, but how should the PMs be
allocated? One per user stored in the user's session? If so, how do
multiple users share access to the same model instances? My mental model
is that a PM is like a "sandbox" - objects in one sandbox cannot see
objects existing in another PM's "sandbox". Is that true?
I know this is a long winded question. I was hoping to provide enough
context so someone could suggest a PM utilization that scales well for
    applications like ours.
    Any help/suggestions is GREATLY appreciated!
    Steve
