Deermining an applet is loaded and initialized

In the HTML of a web page how can I determine or be notified that an applet is loaded and initialized similar to "onload=foo()" on the <body> statement.
At least in NS 7+ the <body> onload executes before the applets contained in the body are initialized.
I also tried to use onload on the <applet> statement and while it was accepted by NS 7.1, the target JS function was not executed.

My applets load before the javascript for the onLoad event of the body tag fires. I do the following javascript and can access methods from the applet. However, please note that the applet displays with just a loading progress bar. I cause the javascript to make the applet do the lengthy gui display rather than displaying all components on loadup. I hope this is making sense.
//javascript
function doOnLoad() {
   var a = document.yourAppletName;
   a.callSomeAppletMethod();
//html
<BODY onLoad="return doOnLoad();">

  • No return in JS when accessing an applet in loading process

    When I try to access a property or a method of an applet which is
    not completely loaded by the plug-in, my javascript instruction
    never returns. Not even an exception or a null. The CPU is 100% busy
    with the netscape.exe for ever. When I close the browser, I get a
    Dr. Watson.
    Context :
    Netscape 6.2, plug-in 1.3.1 or
    Netscape 7.0, plug-in 1.4.0
    My purpose is to call the applet just after everything is put in place:
    the applet is loaded, ready is work and laid out on screen. So I do
    the call on the BODY onload event. It's fine with NN4.7 or IE5.5 and
    their internal JVM because when the event fires, the applet is ready.
    The problem is with the plug-in. I know that the onload event fires
    as soon as the HTML is ready, independently from the applet which is
    taken in charge by the plug-in. The availability of the applet takes
    some time because it comes from a signed Jar from a protected area of
    the web server. So you have to walk through two additional steps:
    authentify yourself with the server (first popup) and grant session
    privileges to the applet code (second popup). During this time, onload
    has been executed. I know I have to check if the applet is up and if
    not try again later with a setTimeout().
    But how to check the readiness of the applet? When I try to read
    whatever from it too soon, the code will never return !
    To demonstrate the no-return, just put an alert and wait for the applet
    to be loaded and fully active. Then you can have a return from it.
    Don't forget: because of the user prompts (authentication and grant),
    I can't determine a time to delay the check.
    The code:<HTML>
    <HEAD>
    <SCRIPT>
    function initApplet() {
    // If you uncomment the following alert() and wait
    // for the applet to be fully loaded and running, it will be OK.
    // If you don't, "document.applets[0].isActive" will never return.
    // alert("wait")
    if (document.applets.length != 0
      && document.applets[0].isActive
      && document.applets[0].isActive()) updateApplet()
    else setTimeout("initApplet()",1000)
    function updateApplet() {
    alert("call the applet")
    </SCRIPT>
    </HEAD>
    <BODY onload="initApplet()">
    <APPLET code="test.class" width="760" height="220" name="theApplet"
    archive="theSignedJar.jar" MAYSCRIPT>
    </APPLET>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>

    I am having a very similar problem in Netscape 6.2 or later. (It never occurs in Internet Explorer) The applet can contain a few or many (in the 1000's) of applet parameters.
    I am following the same pattern to determine when the applet is loaded (by referencing a flag that is set to true through the applet), which seems pretty standard. The applet is loaded, and the flag is set, but when I begin to process the parameters, the first parameter that is examined is returned as null, even though it is included as an applet parameter in the HTML file that is generated. FYI the first parameter processed is the last one included in the source file. The worst part about this error is that the error seems random. Sometimes it works; other times it doesn't.
    Has anybody ever seen documentation as to how the parameters are loaded into memory, i.e. in what order? Does anybody know the algorithm used by the runtime system to find a parameter when a call to getParameter() is made?
    Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

  • GDM loaded and active, but not showing login-screen.

    Hello Archers!
    At the very beginning I would like to say "Hello" to all forum users!
    I recently started using Arch Linux, after moving from Win8.1 to Ubuntu and then to Arch. I've went through a struggle of installing proprietary AMD graphic card drivers and finally managed to get it working. Although that was achieved with a little sacrifice - GDM stopped working. I can still run Gnome with "startx", but I can't get login-screen to work. Any ideas what happened and how to get it working?
    I'm using xorg115 and proprietary AMD graphic drivers.

    EDIT
    Tried symlinking
    /usr/lib64/dri
    to
    /usr/X11R6/lib64/modules
    And made that error in Xorg log disappear. However, gdm is still not working. I'm getting stuck at
    [ OK ] Reached target Graphical Interface.
    I can still log with other tty and startx manually.

  • MacBook Pro (mid 2010) - Slow Startup and Initial Load of Apps after Mavericks Install

    Hello everyone,
    Long time Snow Leopard user here.  I've been absolutely, 100% thrilled with my MBP's performance / speed since mid 2010.  Since installing Mavericks I've noticed two things:
    1. Initial on boot load times seem much slower
    2.  The first time you open an app (Safari, even TextEdit) is far slower than in Snow Leopard.
    Now granted, once the computer has been on for about 5 minutes, and once you've had an application open for 1-2 minutes, than performance is okay once again.  But it seems that quite literally everytime you do "anything" for the first time since the computer has been turned on you run the risk of a spinning beachball and an extended wait.  This simply never happened in Snow Leopard.
    I'm not a computer science major but I do understand that when you do something for the first time since a reboot it will need to load new files into the RAM which takes time.  However, I've been using this computer since 2010 and have never experienced this behavior / speed / delay, etc... something seems fundamentally different.
    For example, even just opening finder, and navigating to the Applications folder results in sluggish behavior the first time.  Also, anytime you first click the top menu bar in an application you run the risk of a beachball.
    It doesn't seem like a failing hard drive because I can read/write large chunks of data one an app is finally loaded.  It's just initially loading the app takes quite literally 10-20 times longer than Snow Leopard.  It seems like perhaps Mavericks itself, the core of the new OS was perhaps installed in a bad sector of the HD, but none of my other files are on bad sectors... if that makes sense.  Again - I'm not a computer science major so I'm largely just making things up
    It also seems as if multitasking and switching between several open apps has seen a decrease in performance.  Could it be that perhaps Mavericks RAM management is superior to Snow Leopard, but only if there is a TON of RAM to go around?  Could it be as simple as Macs with only  4GB installed should not be allowed to even install Mavericks?
    Does this sound normal for Mavericks considering I have a C2D processor, a non SSD, and only 4GB ram?  I know those specs are "outdated" for 2014, but keep in mind these were the specs that I've always had and with Snow Leoapard I was consistently thrilled with the speed of the computer.
    I suppose my question is: should my strategy be to simply turn the computer on, get a cup of coffee and let everything load and maybe even have my frequently used apps load on startup, etc... and carry on as normal?  Does something seem off?  Should I invest in a new SSD / RAM upgrade?  I know the upgrades couldn't hurt, but the issue is that I was perfectly content until upgrading to Mavericks
    I've tried booting into OS X Recovery mode and using the Disk Utility.  I've tried Safe Mode.  I've included a "EtreCheck" report below.  I'm open to any ideas / suggestions.
    Thanks!!

    Wish I could be of some help, but I'm having similar issues on my mid 2011 macbook pro with 8 GB ram. It's very frustrating. I haven't worked on a computer this slow since the early 90's. Even simple things like signing in to this site bring up the beach ball for maybe ten seconds. When opening up apps I often have to wait minutes, and often end up force quitting when they hang. I'm using force quit a dozen or more times a day, when it used to be very rare.
    I don't know if it's Mavericks. I installed a new hard drive in November, but the problems really started getting bad since the latest upgrade.
    It's not just opening apps. If I have an app open in the background and switch to it I have similar issues. Watching a simple video is often accompanied by stalls and delays - which is really bad as I'm often using the laptop to edit video. It's become unuseable for work.
    Perhaps the most frustrating is clicking on a link, only to find Safari decides to complete a previous scroll that it had paused. The page jumps down, and sometimes I end up clicking on a link I didn't want. Then I have to wait for THAT spinning beach ball before I can go back to the previous spinning beach ball.
    It can take up to ten minutes to restart. I've tried everything I could find on these pages so far, and nothing has worked.
    I thought maybe it was something I've done (and perhaps it is), but I keep seeing others with similar issues.

  • Initial Load and Reconcile of IdM accounts vs Resources. Any advices?

    Hellos.
    Time is now to begin the initial startup of Idm where target resources already have entries.
    Is there anywhere an idiots guide explaining to a novice IdM user the steps involved in loading and linking IdM accounts for the first time? I have to stress the guide has to be designed to meet novices needs i.e. those doing it for the first time.
    We are fairly confident in running IdM from day 1. What I am unsure about is the best techniques to employ on day 0 so that the first FF Async run on day 1 will update IdM accounts rather than attempt to reinsert them.
    We have 3 target resources: 1 AD 2 LDAP and 1 input FF Async source (plus a form for manual adds/mods)
    The targets hold a mix of contract staff and employees. The FF source holds just employees, the contactor's data is entered by hand.
    Am I being stupid if I do the following:
    1. Load IdM Accounts from latest FF source (employees)
    2. reconcile matching AD accounts by name.
    3. reconcile matching LDAP1 accounts by name.
    4. reconcile matching LDAP2 accounts by name.
    5. from unmatched AD accounts since an AD account must exist for current staff make 2nd load file for contractors and load these accounts into IdM.
    6. reconcile matching AD accounts by name
    7. reconcile matching LDAP1 accounts by name
    8. reconcile matching LDAP2 accounts by name
    9 examine the leftovers and manually correct the mispelt or erroneous ones treating the rest as ghosts.
    I am unsure just what the reconciliation is doing, I hope it builds the links between IdM and the resource.
    What I am trying to achieve is a situation where I end up at the end of day0 where I have all the Idm accounts in my repository and are correctly linked to resource accounts so that the FF async can manage the bulk of them
    I believe this has to be done for every IdM implementation. What I am after is advice and pointers to guidance from those who have had the experience of going though the implementation cycle at least once.

    I had a similar problem although I was doing a load from file and I was linking the account to the resource.
    I noticed you had:
    <Field name='accounts[ISA].created'>
    <Default>
    <s>true</s>
    </Default>
    </Field>
    Try using the following instead:
    <Field name='waveset.accounts[GrandSlamXML].created'>
    <Expansion>
    <Boolean>true</Boolean>
    </Expansion>
    </Field>
    That is what worked for me.

  • How to get applet to load text file and use it

    The applet is loaded from my site and the short text file is updated by a perl script in my cgi-bin, which is called whenever someone loads the html that loads my applet.
    The text file is just a counter string and I'd like to use it to display #.gif's at a certain place on the applet window (no problem there if I can get the text file into the applet).
    How would I get the applet to load the text file into a string or array?
    It has a running thread and I'd like it to update it periodically.

    I believe you can do that with Class.getResourceAsStream.
    Or you can do it explicitly with java.net.* stuff.

  • Is it possible to LOAD and INSTALL applet during pre-personalization?

    Hi Friends..
    Currently, i use JCOP card
    I want to know the other way to LOAD and INSTALL applet not through CardManager..
    I mean, is it possible to LOAD and INSTALL applet during pre-personalization time?.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    i want to LOAD and INSTALL Applets while pre-personalization phase..
    No, i don't want to defer the LOAD and INSTALL..In the past, we have used the pre-personalisation phase to load KDC keys onto a card and remove the ISK and set issuer specific identifiers (IIN and CIN) etc. You could also load your applet at this time if you wish. You can also load the applets at personalisation.
    How do you plan on doing the personalisation phase? If you were to use a GP scripting environment for example, the CAP files are embedded as a part of the install scripts and only loaded onto a card when you begin executing your personalisation scripts. Since I assume you will be using the small desktop printers mentioned in a different thread, you may be better off integrating the applet loading into your personalisation code (printer integration) so you do not need to double handle cards.
    Actually, is it possible to LOAD and INSTALL applet if we don't authenticate to the CardManager?..There are ways to load and install an applet without explicitly calling INIT UPDATE and EXTERNAL AUTH, but you still need to be authenticated to the card manager, otherwise anyone could manage card content. You can use install tokens and delegated management (which are all outlined in the GO Card Spec).
    Cheers,
    Shane

  • Applet loading and using ttf font

    Hello,
    I'd like my applet to load a TTF file from the server (or from a provided jar file) and
    use it to render text, or use it with GUI elements like TextArea.
    Here the significant part of my code:
            URL fontURL=applet2.class.getClassLoader().getResource("my.ttf");
            try { fontStream = fontURL.openStream(); } catch (Exception e) {
                str=str+"Error 1\n";
                e.printStackTrace();
            str=str+"Step 1\n";
    // also tried this way instead, as well as including the ttf in a jar or as separate file on the server
    //      fontStream = getClass().getResourceAsStream("my.ttf");
            try { font = Font.createFont(Font.TRUETYPE_FONT, fontStream); } catch (Exception e) {
                str=str+"Error 2\n";
                e.printStackTrace();
            str=str+"Step 2\n";
            try { fontStream.close();} catch (Exception e) {
                str=str+"Error 3\n";
                e.printStackTrace();
            str=str+"Step 3\n";
            big_font=font.deriveFont(40f);
            text_out_main = new TextArea(str,4,40,TextArea.SCROLLBARS_NONE);
            text_out_main.setFont(big_font);the funny thing is, that this works on several Linux installations I tried (all UTF8/Unicode based ones).
    And I tried several WinXP/Win2k FF/IE/Safari combinations and none of them works! The Windows
    machines all show a standard font but with the size 40f, I cant see any exceptions, the strings "Step 1"
    to "Step 3" are nicely attached to the main string and not a single "Error x" string appears.
    All systems use the latest jre 1.6 plugins.
    Any hints are appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Leander

    Meanwhile I found out that the TextArea (or probably any other awt gui element)
    did not use the font when running on Windows, when drawing to a Graphic or using
    it with a JTextArea everything is ok.

  • Tool for viewing the loaded classes, defining and initiating ClassLoaders

    Many modern Java based servers and tools such as IDEs employ a complex/hierarchical class loader architecture for modularity and isolation. Many Java debuggers have ability to display loaded classes. However sometimes it is neccesary to view defining and initiating class loaders to debug class loading related issues. I have developed an extension module for Netbeans JPDA debugger to display such information. Please read my blog here:
    http://blogs.sun.com/scblog/entry/updated_view_classes_and_classloader
    if you are interested in such a tool.

    Can anyone give me pointers on how I could write an agent to dump information about loaded classes, defining and initiating ClassLoaders on:
    JVMTI_EVENT_DATA_DUMP_REQUEST
    event.
    Also can similar information be obtained from heap dumps generated by:
    $ jmap -dump:format=b,file=heap.bin <pid>
    May be using OQL supported by jhat.
    thanks,
    Sandip

  • Delta and initial load

    Hi,
    Can anyone explain  what is delta and initial load and how to perform it for master data like business partner,products and transaction data like service tickets
    Thanks
    Ganesh

    Hi Ganesh,
    Initial load is when you download objects like materials, customers, installed base etc from ECC to CRM. Delta load is any changes to these objects in ECC are automatically downloaded to CRM. It could be from CRM to ECC as well.
    You have to set up the subscriptions for the objects that you want to download from ECC to CRM. There is a configuration setting to activate delta downloads also.
    Thanks

  • Components and applet not loading when running the application using JVM1.3

    I have my UI written in JavaScript.When I click a button,it opens a window showing the different components(images) and an applet containing a tree structure.The applet code is written in java
    This is working fine and the applet is loading properly when I use JVM1.4. But there is a problem when I use JVM1.3.1_09.The images appear broken and the applet doesnot load.(When I click on one of the broken images,the images appear correctly but the applet still doesn't load)
    Can anyone tell me what could be the reason behind this behavior??
    My sys config: win2k-SP4, IE5.0-SP4

    If you are using SDK 1.4 for compilation,
    recompile your classes with the option -target 1.1
    javac -target 1.1 MyClass.java

    I'm using Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1 on Windows XP with SP2. I tried running it with IE7 and it gives me the same exact problem. It can't be my browser because it loads JAR'ed applets on any other webpage just fine.
    I tried it with a non-obfuscated JAR, and it STILL gives me the same error. Do you have any ideas as to why it would choose to ignore the archive attribute?
    EDIT: I think it might be because I signed it improperly, lemme try that.
    EDIT2: Nope, still doesnt work
    EDIT3: Problem solved, it was because the JAR needed a unique name, and i already had a jar of the same name in my cache.

  • Applet not loading in some environments

    Hi,
    We have an applet that works for 99% of our users but for one user the applet does not start. Are there any specific proxy / browser settings that could prevent the applet from loading properly? Outputs from the java console for the working users show the following lines:

    It seems like for some reason its attempting to start but then instantatly stops .... we don't see any exceptions in console.
    Relatively new to applets so any advice would be appreciated
