Default compose/reply Text or HTML

We are running into the same problem that has plagued other installations in regards to Outlook and Messenger Express.
This has been our experience with the problem:
There is a problem we have seen where a person using Microsoft Outlook (not Outlook Express or Entourage) can not see the text of a reply to an earlier message sent by someone using Outlook. We have found that this specific combination generates the problem: A person uses Outlook to send an HTML e-mail to a person using the iPlanet web interface who replies in TEXT mode - any person using Outlook to view the reply will see the original message, but not the reply (even people cced on the reply). If both are using HTML or the Outlook person is using TEXT, the problem does not appear to occur. If the original message is sent using the iPlanet web interface, even if it is sent in HTML mode and replied to in TEXT mode, the problem does not appear to occur.
This is a known bug in Outlook in how it displays certain types of e-mail. Microsoft has confirmed the bug (we opened an incident with them on this and finally got them to admit it was a bug in Outlook since neither Outlook Express nor Entourage experience this issue) and that no fix is available at this time (a fix is scheduled to be in the next version of Outlook). The more technical explanation of the problem (based on what they appear to be doing) is that iPlanet is MIME coding the original message as HTML and the reply as TEXT as two MIME sections within the same message. Outlook sees the two MIME sections, and appears to presume they are identical (which is true in some legal MIME configurations (such as those from Exchange, the mail server Outlook was built to integrate with), but is not true in the ones iPlanet generates). So Outlook picks the HTML section to display. This loses the TEXT section, which contained the reply.
I know of two solutions to the problem, one on the sender side and one of the receiver side:
1) Have the "replier" resend the reply using HTML mode rather than TEXT (in the iPlanet interface, click on the "Text/HTML" button on the toolbar)
or
2) Read the reply using another tool besides Outlook (such as another IMAP client or a web interface - this works best for those who are on campus and having trouble reading the reply as they can see it in the iPlanet web interface).
We are looking to see if we can set the default reply setting in the iPlanet web interface to HTML as a step towards minimizing this problem. If you change a reply once to using HTML as a format, that becomes the default format every time after that until you use TEXT once as a reply (note that the reply default seems to be independent of the the compose default).
Now my question is simply this. Where can I set the default compose or reply for all users? It has to be set somewhere on the server though I haven't been able to find it. I know it is not in a cookie since if the default is changed on one computer that change is evident on another computer. I also looked into the users LDAP entry but not finding an attribute that it would fall under.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Theresa

If the default is stored somewhere (and I honestly don't know), then it would be stored in ldap. I suspect it's hard-coded into the html/js that make up the webmail viewable part.

  • My incoming emailes default to plain text even though view-message body as-originalHTML is checked

    Most (not all) of my incoming emails (in particular from one main client's employees) always come in plain text, I want to be able to view all message in HTML format and reply in html format (this is generally fine fr my response, but the trail leaves all their comments in plain text).
    I have view-message body as-originalHTML as ticked. Stil doesn't work. I run Thunderbird 24.4.0 on Mac 10.7.5. My server is gmail
    FYI, In account settings I have ticked the box 'compose messages in HTML format". Not that that is relevant..

    The email client they are using is relevant, and are you sure your getting HTML in the emails (ctrl+U will show message source)
    The normal arrangement is if Plain text and HTML are sent they are Plain text, followed by HTML. But having both like that is not a problem.

  • Exporting PDF text to html

    How can I export PDF text and post the exported text on a web page, to which I can then apply Google Translate?  Our organization post PDF articles from our journal.  (I can manually block and copy the text, so I know the text can be captured.)  I want a program/app/software to run on our website that will allow a user to extract the text from the PDF and display the text as html.  From there, the user can apply Google Translate.  So does anyone know how I can do this?  It doesn't seem like a difficult task -- I can do it manually -- but I want an app that will do it automatically.

    Thanks for the reply.  Do you have any idea how I could do what I want to do, perhaps with some other software?

  • Need help...retrieving text from html

    i have successfully convert my text into html... however, i have problem restoring the html back to text...
    below is my html:
    <html>
    <head>
    <style> <!-- p.default { italic:; size:3; bold:normal; family:Times New Roman; foreground:#000000; } --> </style>
    </head>
    <body> <p class=default>
    <span style="color: #000000; font-size: 72pt; font-family: Times New Roman"> <u><i><b>HELLO WORLD</b></i></u>
    </span>
    </p>
    </body>
    </html>
    this is the method i used to restore the text:
    String htmlInString=CustomPanel.getHTML();
    JTextPane p=new JTextPane(new HTMLDocument());
    p.setContentType("text/html");
    jPanel4.add(p);
    p.setText(htmlInString);
    the problem is, when i restore the text, i can only get the text,its bold,underline and italic... my font and font size are unable to be restored...
    for example, based on the html i provided above, it should come up with "HELLO WORLD", bold, underline and italic with the font size 72... but when i restored, my font size and font are not as it is stated in the html... why is this so????

  • Meaning of 'Text is HTML' option?

    Illustrator CS3
    iMac 10.4.11
    2GB RAM
    I have selected an object and created a slice via Object > Slice > Create from Selection. On selecting this slice & bringing up the Slice Options dialog and changing the Slice Type to 'No Image', I see a checkbox 'Text is HTML'. I wanted to know what does checking ON this checkbox do & how is it different from when it is unchecked (default)? This checkbox is also available for Text object slices created with the Object > Slice > Make command.

    It means exactly what it says.If you check it the text will appear as a slice that has text like in any browser using the HTML version of text. it will be live that is i will be scaleable and selectable, you will be able to copy it to a text editor or to an graphic or word processing application and you will be able to edit it.
    If you uncheck i you have a ordinary slice that is it will more then likely be a jpeg and any text in the sliced would be a part of the raster image file that is the slice.
    One is a picture of the text and the other is actual type.

  • How to include text as HTML elements (see DOMElement)

    I am working with Flash PRO CC v. 14.0.  to convert my Flash website to HTML5 / javascript
    I have converted a file to the HTML5 Canvas
    I am very happy that the new Flash Pro has the feature to convert to HTML5 canvas
    HOWEVER:
    In my original .FLA file project I use only one font: Copperplate Bold.  I use several sizes of that font within the project / scene
    In the original file for all text I use static text, Letter spacing, AntiAlias, AutoKern and single line (Linetype)
    - none of which the HTML5 canvas seem to allow / support?
    How do I maintain the FONT look that I have chosen in my original FLASH project, after I convert to HTML5 canvas?
    Is there a way in the HTML canvas to maintain the FONT look that I want?
    HTML5 canvas will not allow Font embedding
    The device font destroys the LOOK of my Copperplate Bold font.
    How do I include text as HTML elements (see DOMElements)?
    WARNINGS generated when I convert the original file into an HTML Canvas:
    Warnings generated while copying/importing in 140827a HTML test.fla:

    * StaticText is not supported in HTML5 Canvas document, and has been converted to DynamicText in an instance of Text.
    New HTML Canvas Document created.
    NOTE:  So far the only way I have been able to maintain the font look is to convert the fonts to .png files
    This is painstaking work that I would like to avoid.
    Even then I still get a WARNING when I test my scene - (no doubt because I left the original FONT text  in guide layers)
    After conversion ON TEST SCENE:
    WARNINGS:
    Frame numbers in EaselJS start at 0 instead of 1. For example, this affects gotoAndStop and gotoAndPlay calls. (18)
    Only circular (not oval) radial gradients are supported. (85)
    Text support is limited. It is generally recommended to include text as HTML elements (see DOMElement). (6)
    Color effects are published as a filter and subject to the same limitations. (4)
    Filters are very expensive and are not updated once applied. Cache as bitmap is automatically enabled when a filter is applied. This can prevent animations from updating. (2)
    Content with both Bitmaps and Buttons may generate local security errors in some browsers if run from the local file system.
    HOW CAN I MAINTAIN the FONT LOOK that I have chosen for my project?
    How do I include text as HTML elements (see DOMElements)?
    ANY HELP will be appreciated
    A good, in depth, tutorial on the subject (FONTS) would be a BIG help to many using the convert to HTML5 canvas features.

    GOOGLE HAS
    https://www.google.com/fonts
    choose a font from above site
    then:
    google generates instructions on how to embed that font
    Montserrat
    3. Add this code to your website:
    <link href='http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Montserrat:400,700' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'>
    4. Integrate the fonts into your CSS:
    The Google Fonts API will generate the necessary browser-specific CSS to use the fonts. All you need to do is add the font name to your CSS styles. For example:
    font-family: 'Source Sans Pro', sans-serif;
    font-family: 'Ubuntu', sans-serif;
    font-family: 'Montserrat Alternates', sans-serif;
    font-family: 'Montserrat', sans-serif;
    font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif;

  • Set default width for text box in Adobe Acrobat X

    Hello!
    I am using the textbox tool to add comments to a document. (not the Typewriter, but the Textbox, since that has more flexibility for formatting the text).
    I know how to set the default proprties for text size, color, background color, etc.
    Cannot figure out however to to set the default width. Every time I try to add a new textbox, it defaults to about 1 or 2 inches wide, so the text wraps around and around, and then I have to resize the box when I am done.
    Is there a way to change the default width?
    Thanks!

    Hi, Amonra
    I drew a box I like, and select, and then, Ctrl+C, and then Ctrl+V.
    And move the pasted box where to need, and resize the length. At least I get same width boxes.
    I don't know how to default it.
    I hope it may help you.

    One approach is to download Htmlparser from sourceforge
    http://htmlparser.sourceforge.net/ and write the rules to match title, abstract etc.
    Another approach is to write your own parser that extract only title, abstract etc.
    1. tokenize the html file. --> convert html into tokens (tag and value)
    2. write a simple parser to extract certain information
    find out about the pattern of text you want to extract. For instance "<class "abstract">.
    then writing a rule for extracting abstract such as
    if (tag is abstract ) then extract abstract text
    apply the same concept for other tags
    Attached is the sample parser that was used to extract title and abstract from acm html files. Please modify to include keyword and other fields.

    Then I looked at the web and found, that I have to add the line:
    doc.putProperty("IgnoreCharsetDirective", new Boolean(true));"doc." is a new HTML Dokument, created with the HTMLEditorKit. I do not have much knowledge about that and so I hope, that someone can explain me, how I can solve that problem, within my code.

  • How to convert a Word document to text or html in an ABAP program

    Hi,
    At my client's site, for the recruitment system, they have the word processing system set to RTF, instead of SAP Script. This means that all the correspondence is in Word format. A standard SAP program takes the word letter, loads word, does the mail merge with the applicant's info and then sends the document to a printer.
    The program name is RPAPRT05. The program creates a document proxy (interface I_OI_DOCUMENT_PROXY) and manipulates the document using the methods of the interface.
    Now what we want to do is to instead of sending the document to a printer, we want to email the document contents to the applicant. But I don't know how to get the content from the Word document into text or html format so that I can make an email from it.
    I know I can send an email with the word document as an attachment, but we'd prefer not to do that.
    I would appreciate any help very much.
    Thanks

    Ok, here's what I ended up doing:
    First of, in order to call FM 'CONVERT_RTF_TO_ITF' you need the RTF document in a table with line length 156. The document is returned from FM 'DP_CREATE_URL' in a table with line length 132. So first I convert the table:
        Transform data table from 132 character lines to
        256 character lines
          LOOP AT data_table INTO dataline.
            IF newrow = 'X'.
            Add row to new table
              APPEND INITIAL LINE TO xdatatab ASSIGNING .
              newrow = space.
            ENDIF.
          Convert the raw line of old table to characters
            ASSIGN dataline TO .
          Check line lengths to determine how to add the
          next line of old table
            newlinelen = STRLEN( newline ).
            ADD addspaces TO newlinelen.
            linepos = linemax - newlinelen.
            IF linepos > datalen.
            Enough space available in new table line for all of old table line
              newline+newlinelen = oldline.
              oldlinelen = STRLEN( oldline ).
              addspaces = datalen - oldlinelen.
              CONTINUE.
            ELSE.
            Fill up new table line
              newline+newlinelen(linepos) = oldline(linepos).
              ASSIGN newline TO .
              newrow = 'X'.
            Save the remainder of old table to the new table line
              IF linepos < datalen.
                oldlinelen = STRLEN( oldline ).
                addspaces = datalen - oldlinelen.
                CLEAR newline.
                newline = oldline+linepos.
              ELSE.
                CLEAR newline.
              ENDIF.
            ENDIF.
          ENDLOOP.
        Write the last line to the table
          IF newrow = 'X'.
            APPEND INITIAL LINE TO xdatatab ASSIGNING .
    Next I call FM 'CONVERT_RTF_TO_ITF' to get the document in SAPScript format:
        Convert the RTF format to SAPScript
          CALL FUNCTION 'CONVERT_RTF_TO_ITF'
            EXPORTING
              header            = dochead
              x_datatab         = xdatatab
              x_size            = xsize
            IMPORTING
              with_tab_e        = withtab
            TABLES
              itf_lines         = itf_table
            EXCEPTIONS
              invalid_tabletype = 1
              missing_size      = 2
              OTHERS            = 4.
    This returns the document still containing the mail merge fields which needs to be filled in:
          LOOP AT itf_table INTO itf_line.
            WHILE itf_line CS '«'.
              startpos = sy-fdpos + 1.
              IF itf_line CS '»'.
                tokenlength = sy-fdpos - startpos.
              ENDIF.
              token = itf_line+startpos(tokenlength).
              REPLACE '_' IN token WITH '-'.
              ASSIGN (token) TO .
              ENDIF.
              MODIFY itf_table FROM itf_line.
            ENDWHILE.
          ENDLOOP.
    And finally I use FM 'CONVERT_ITF_TO_ASCII' to convert the SAPScript to text. I set the line lengths to 60, since that's a good length to format emails to.
        Convert document to 60 char wide ascii document for emailing
          CALL FUNCTION 'CONVERT_ITF_TO_ASCII'
            EXPORTING
              formatwidth       = 60
            IMPORTING
              c_datatab         = asciidoctab
              x_size            = documentsize
            TABLES
              itf_lines         = itf_table
            EXCEPTIONS
              invalid_tabletype = 1
              OTHERS            = 2.
    And then the text document gets passed to FM 'SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1' as the email body.

  • Displaying Text as HTML in the UIscrollbar component

    Greetings.
    I have a window on my Flash stage that has some scrollable copy in it.  The problem is, I can't seem to have any formatting for the text ... if I select a word or two to make bold, it all turns bold.  I gather I need to use the "Display Text as HTML" checkbox and then paste in some HTML formatted text but this doesn't seem to work.  I searched this forum and found that others were designating "htmlText" in Actionscript instead of just "text" ... that didn't work either.  I probably just did it wrong, or maybe it's becuase I'm using the UI component "UIscrollBar" for it's scrolling of the text.
    Is there anything else I need to do to be able to format some text with strong tags and maybe some href links?
    I have my properties inspector with the following check marks:
    Display as HTML
    Multiline
    Dynamic Text
    selectable
    Thanks everyone.

  • How do I mix text and Html format in a java mail?

    How do I mix text and Html format in a java mail? some part I want to keep the text format, the other part I want to use Html functions(like fond, color, etc)

    You don't mix them. Pick one or the other.
    However if you want to have a text version and an HTML version, so that mail readers that don't handle HTML can see regular text instead, then you could produce a "multipart/alternative" message. There's an explanation of how to do that in this article:

  • "texts on html file" are not updated "when edited on server"

    Hi All,
    QUESTION
    What are the solutions, for having editable text/content on .html published files, so clients can edit through their server control panel
    Scenario:
    Client wants to update the "text" by editing the .html files on a server.
    I published the website as static html so the text can be included in .html file, but edits made on server's control panel, doesnt appear in live website.
    I also noticed that the texts located in edgeActions.js are editable through server, i am not very interested to define all my text content as the dynamic
    code because then I must worry about empty .html files and SEO questions.

    Here is what I ve found in regard to my own question...
    For a Client, to be able to change the text on server (Ex: phone numbers in a contact page), they should access and modify the text in the   edge.js or sometimes edgeaction.js page. Changing the text on .html page will create no result. I assume, this is because, the .html page is exported ONCE and only at the point of Publishing a project, to satisfy the SEO needs or whatever. Think of the text on .html page as a Sticker to fool the rest of the world, changing it will not change anything on webste and. Also if you change the text in .js, the change will not be relfected on .html file.

    I only have access to wifi, imessage started defaulting to green text message instead of blue imessage, thus they fail to send, I have turned off SMS and restarted the phone and the problem gotinues.  Any suggestions?

    iPads only support iMessage. You cannot send SMS with any of the native iOS functionality on it. There may be some apps in the app store that will, and certainly several messaging platforms (but read the descriptions carefully).
