Default dashboard prompt

How can I get the YEAR to default in the dashboard prompt to CURRENT YEAR?
What settings to I need to change to accomplish this?
Thanks

There are several ways to do this.
You can setup a session variable in the Physical model that has an initialization block which does something along the lines of SELECT to_char(SYSDATE,'YYYY') from dual (Oracle).
Or you can define it for the prompt itself - when you define the prompt you can set the default based on SQL and the function YEAR(Current_Date).

  • Clear default dashboard prompt values

We have created a few dashboard prompts that are defaulted to server variables. When a user enters the dashboard page, they want to these values to be populated with a start and end date for a specific reporting period. They also want to be able to select a different reporting period (year, quarter, etc.). We have put a "Clear my Selections" button on the page, but that does not clear the prompts that have a defaulted value. The only workaround is to manually deleted the defaulted values, which makes the clear button almost useless and difficult to train the users.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi Chris,
If you haven't tried, use the code to place a button to clear your selections.
    $div align="right" class="XUIPromptEntry minibuttonOn" $
    $a href="#" onclick="return PersonalizationEditor.removeDefaultSelection(false)"$
    Clear all criteria
    $/a$
    $/div$
    Replace $ with < or >

  • Presentation Variable in the SQL default section in the dashboard prompt

    Hi Gurus,
I have two prompts and two go buttons. First Go button is used to populate pv_category1 presentation variable.
    category_column --> pv_category1--> 1st Prompt
    Product_Column --> pv_product2 --> 2nd Prompt
I want to set the default for the 2nd Prompt depending on the 1st Prompt ( Category) chosen by the user.
In the SQL default --> i have typed in the below Query.
    *Select TableName.Product_Column from Subject_Area where category_column = '@{pv_category1}'*
The Problem is that i dont get any default value for 2nd Prompt after choosing the First prompt and hitting the GO Button.
If i hardcode the value in @{pv_category1} ...
    for eg
Select TableName.Product_Column from Subject_Area where category_column = 'Incidents' i get the corresponding value as default.
But i want this 2nd prompt (product) to dyamically default depending on the 1st prompt (category) chosen by the user.
I am using OBIEE 10.1.3.4 and i have googled a lot on this topic...
can we not use Presentation variable in the SQL default section of the Dashboard Prompt?
Any help in this regard would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Ashish

    Thanks for the Quick Reply.
But the functionality that i want to achieve is the default value in the 2nd column (out of many values for 2nd column) based on the 1st column chosen by the USER. for eg we have two columns in our database ie category and Product.. Data goes like this
    category ProductName
    Incidents --- A
    Incidents --- B
    Incidents --- C
    Changes --- D
    Changes --- E
    Projects --- M
    Projects --- N
    Projects --- O
    Projects --- P
If the User chooses Incidents in the first prompt then the default in the 2nd prompt should be B ( out of A,B,C Values available in the 2nd prompt)....
Checking the constraint checkbox doesnt solve the default problem...
    Thanks

  • How to set the 'default to' field of a dashboard prompt to yesterday?

    Hi everyone,
I have a dashboard prompt on a date (fully qualified name Date.Date and type Date).
I also have a simple report with two columns: Date.Date and a mesure (whatever the name).
I managed to filter on the day before the current date in the report by adding an advanced SQL filter:
    Date.Date = Cast(TimestampAdd(SQL_TSI_DAY,-1,@{system.currentTime}) as Date)
Now, I would like the prompt to select the day before the current date by default.
The filter on Date.Date would be 'is prompted' or so.
How do I set the "Default to" field of the prompt?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
    go to your prompt..
select SQL Results from Default to: dropdown..
here.. you need to write your Logical SQL..
which defaults to the previous date
    some thing like this..
*select case when 1=0 then anydate column else timestampadd(sql_tsi_day, -1, CURRENT_DATE) end FROM SubjectArea name*
write like this.. and report back...

  • Urgent- How to Default Current Months First Date in a Dashboard Prompt

We have requirement that whenever our user clicks on a dashboard it should show the report associated with the dashboard defaulted to MTD.
For example if the user is running the dashboard on 16th Jan then the report associated with dashboard by default should show data from 1st Jan to 16 Jan.
And then latter user should be able to select the dates of his choice in dashboard prompt and the report should show data according to selected date.
Please send some clues or work around for this issue.

    Regarding Question 2:
What you need to have is a Dashboard scope dashboard prompt for Product_ID (i.e., Don't use the column prompt from the prompt tab within the Request.)
    1) Create the dashboard prompt, put it on tab1 and save the prompt to a presentation variable, say prmtProdID. Set the scope to "dashboard." (This is the default, by the way.) If you create a dashboard prompt and set the scope to "dashboard," then the prompt values selected will hold true across dashboard pages.
    2) On tab2, go to your report and in Criteria mode, apply a filter to the Product_ID column making it equal to the PV. (Click the filter icon, Add>Variable>Presentation Variable and type prmtProdID. Save.)
When the user selects a Product_ID on tab1 of your dashboard and hits "Go," not only will it filter your report on tab1, when you go to tab2 the report here will be filtered with the same value selected in the prompt on tab2.
    Regarding Question 3:
If you implement 2, you cannot implement 3. You can't have it both ways. Not for the same scenario. But if you want to know how to do it in general, read this:
    http://obieeone.com/2009/08/24/how-to-stop-queries-to-automatically-fire-off-once-entering-dashboarddashboard-page/

  • Default Selection Issue in Dashboard Prompt

    Hi All,
I am using the below logical SQL in SQL Results for Default Selection of a column in a dashboard prompt,
SELECT "Facts"."Service Provider", "Config"."Integration Id" FROM "IMONIT - Transaction Log" WHERE "Config"."Integration Id"='@{inttype}'
Here, I have used a presentation variable, which is set by another prompt. Also the Facts and Config table are joined in RPD. The issue is it does not selects the values returned by the logical SQL by default. But if i use the same logical SQL in SQL Results of Choice List Values for the same column in the prompt, the logical SQL does work and populates the prompt only with the values returned by the logical SQL.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Maria

Deepak, actually the scenario is that I am navigating to the page with the dashboard prompt from another answers report located on another dashboard page. This SQL works perfectly when I press the GO button of prompt on the same page. But its not working when I am navigating to the same page with the prompt from any other report. Any ideas ?

    Hi GN,
Create an variable prompt ( Eg: v_days ) and add custom values as 15,30,45,100 into it and keep the default as 45.
Use v_days variable in another column prompt (Eg: Period) with the format MON-YYYY.
Now when user selects no of days , period will get the corresponding change.

  • Create default sql query in DashBoard Prompt

    Hi,
I want to set the default value in a DashBoard Prompt to current year with a sql query?
    thnx, Robbert

You need to create a dashboard prompt and in Default To -> select SQL Results
Click on the ... (three dots ) underneath it and put in your sql
For Example , I have a Table called "Sales Date" in my "ABC" presentation folder. This has a column called "Year" and "Date". If I want to have a Year prompt with the default value set to current year, here is what the syntax of my sql result will be :-
    SELECT "ABC"."Sales Date".YEAR
    FROM "ABC"
    WHERE "Date" = current_date
In SQL, we cannot put SQL as we know of in terms of Oracle, Sql Server etc. The SQL here refers to sql as OBIEE understands it and should be in the form of Select "Presentation foler"."Table Name".ColumnName from "Presentation Folder"
    Hope this helps

  • Using a Sql Result in Default Value of Dashboard Prompt

    Hi,
I Create a Dashboard Prompt, this have two dates, the initial and the last for a period to filter. I need to set the default value in the fist and last date of the previous month, for example, if today is 20th of november the default value of initial date has been 1th of October and the last date has been 31th of october.
I used in default the option 'SQL Results' and use the next sentences:
    SELECT TRUNC(add_months(sysdate, -1), 'MM') FROM dual;
    SELECT TRUNC(last_day(add_months(sysdate, -1))) from dual;
But when I try to use the dashboard prompt the result is:
    State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 27002] Near <(>: Syntax error [nQSError: 26012] . (HY000)
SQL Issued: SELECT TRUNC(add_months(sysdate,-1),'MM') FROM dual
When I try to use only select sysdate from dual; the result is:
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 27004] Unresolved table: "dual". (HY000)
    Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help. Finally I solve this issue of
    this form:
    1. I Create a Initialization Block with the next
    sentences:
    SELECT TRUNC(add_months(sysdate, -1), 'MM')
    INITIAL_DATE ,TRUNC(last_day(add_months(sysdate,
    -1))) END_DATE, To_char(TRUNC(add_months(sysdate,
    -1), 'MM'), 'YYYYMM') PERIOD FROM dual;
    2. Then I Create three Repository Variables and
assign the Initialization Block to this
    3. In the Dashboard Prompt I use the "Server
Variable" Option in the default and call the three
    variables.
    Thanks again

  • Dashboard Prompt - Getting error for Adding SQL query in "Default to"

    Hello Oracle,
I am facing some problem in Dashboard Prompt. Like when i add some sql query in "Default to" in Dashboard prompt and for the next prompt when i check for Contrain option i get error in the second prompt. but it works fine when i hard-code a value in "Default to" options.
    For Example:
Like when we consider a two prompts :
    1) Year -> (In Default to i select SQL Query and enter the query as SELECT "YTD Dim"."Fiscal Year" FROM "YTD Report" WHERE "YTD Dim"."Fiscal Year" = Year(Current_Date)
    2) Business Unit -> (In specific value i give as some hard code value of Business Unit and check the contrain option)
    i get error as
    Business Unit
    Error Generating Drop Down Values
A numeric value was expected (received "SELECT "YTD Dim"."Fiscal Year" FROM "YTD Report" WHERE "YTD Dim"."Fiscal Year" = Year(Current_Date)"). Error Details
    Error Codes: EHWH2A7E
but i get correct value for Year as 2011.
I need to use SQL query in default to option and need to check the constrain option too.
    Looking for positive feedback.

  • How to set the default value in dashboard prompt?

    Hi there,
In my Dashboard prompt I'm getting values like:
    Mar 2010
    Apr 2010
    May 2010
    Jun 2010
How to set the default value to the current month (Jun 2010). I don't want to use "specific value". I want to use the "SQL Result" for populating the default value.
    Appreciate your help

    hi,
you can create a Repository variable current_month with the expression as
    select to_char(trunc(sysdate),'Mon')from dual
and use this in the prompt "Default to" Server variable and use this repository variable.
    hope this helps.

  • How to set sysdate as default date in dashboard prompt

    Hi all
I want to set default date(sysdate) in dashboard prompt. How to do that.
I have not done this before.
    tell me in clear.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Anand,
The formatting of the data is not something you can change in the variable expression. It is dependent on the data type of the column you used in the prompt. For example, if your prompted column is a DATE data type in your repository file, then you will NOT see a timestamp. However, if your source column is defined as a DATETIME object, then it will always add in a timestamp, even if that timestamp is 12:00:00.
If you don't want a timestamp, go into your repository and in your physical layer, change the datatype of your column from DATETIME to DATE. And in the prompt, keep using the syntax: @{system.currentTime}\[MM/DD/YYYY\]
Good luck and if you find this useful, please award points!
    Best regards,
    -Joe

  • How to Get Default Dates in Dashboard Prompts

i just want to select two dates by default on the Dashboard prompts.
Those two dates would be last day of the last quarter and last day of this quarter.
Any body please give me the select statement to pick those two dates(last day of last quarter and last day of current quarter)by default on the dashboard prompts?
    Thanks in Advance

If you just want it once, then in the dashboard prompt "Default to" window, select "SQL Results" and enter this:
SELECT CASE WHEN 1=0 THEN table.column ELSE TIMESTAMPADD(SQL_TSI_QUARTER,0, TIMESTAMPADD(SQL_TSI_DAY, DAYOFMONTH(CURRENT_DATE)*-1,CURRENT_DATE)) END FROM "subject area"
    UNION
SELECT CASE WHEN 1=0 THEN table.column ELSE TIMESTAMPADD(SQL_TSI_QUARTER,1,TIMESTAMPADD(SQL_TSI_DAY, DAYOFMONTH(CURRENT_DATE)*-1,CURRENT_DATE)) END FROM "subject area" This will give as the default, the last day of the last quarter and the last day of the current quarter in your multi-select prompt.
