Default File Setting

How do I know where  all my data is stored on my hard drive. I to determine where the default folder is that iTunes is backing up my data.  I want to replace my hard drive and plan to copy all my data, including iTunes (music, data curently in my apps on the ipad, iphone, pics, etc...), then replace the HD and once replace re-install iTunes and point it to the folder where I want my data stored.
I do not remember when I started using iTunes if I chose the file stoge location or iTunes had a default.
In short how do ensure I captured all the data before yanking the HD out.

The usual location for the iTunes library is <User's Music>\iTunes.
Backup the library (and other personal data) with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the computer before swapping out drives.
Restore the backup to the rebuilt computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Install iTunes.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.

  • How to set selected file in FileChooser showSaveDialog to default file name

    Hi,
    How do I set selected file in JavaFX 2.0 FileChooser showSaveDialog, so I can prompt the user with a suggested default file name?
    I am converting a Java Swing application I wrote a few years ago to JavaFX 2.0.
    In the Swing application, I use setSelectedFile() as follows:
    JFileChooser jFileChooser = new JFileChooser();
    jFileChooser.setSelectedFile(new File(backupfile));
    jFileChooser.setCurrentDirectory(new File(outputDirectory));
    FileFilter filter = new FileNameExtensionFilter("Comma Delimited (*.csv)", "csv");
    jFileChooser.addChoosableFileFilter(filter);
    jFileChooser.setFileFilter(filter);
    filter = new FileNameExtensionFilter("XML Document (*.xml)", "xml");
    jFileChooser.addChoosableFileFilter(filter);
    jFileChooser.setAcceptAllFileFilterUsed(false);
    jFileChooser.setDialogTitle("Export File");
    int returnVal = jFileChooser.showDialog(jFrame, "Export");
    This would show a file chooser with the file name text field pre-populated with a default backup file name.
    I can't find an equivalent in JavaFX.
    Also, in the Swing application, I was able to determine which extension filter was selected at run time using getFileFilter().getDescription() as follows:
    String extension = jFileChooser.getFileFilter().getDescription();
    if (extension.equals("XML Document (*.xml)")) { ...
    I can't find an equivalent in JavaFX.
    Thanks,
    Barry

    You can use the open sequence file method on the application manager (then you only need to wire the file path)

  • How to set default file location in Illustrator?

    I'm using Creative Suite CS5 in Windows Pro 64, and would like to set a default location for files in Illustrator and Photoshop when I execute the File > Open or File > Save commands.
    Yes, the program defaults to the location of the last file opened, but sometimes that file is gone, or I'm creating a new one from scratch, and the program looks for files in a distant place in my file structure.
    ** Is it possible to set a default file location for opening and saving in Illustrator CS5 (and in Photoshop CS5)?
    Thanks.

    Not that I know of. It simply reverts to the global "My Documents"/ "Documents" folder as provided by your operating system. these can of course be changed using variables and editing the Windows Registry/ Group Policies, but that affects all programs...

  • How to set default file path while downloading alv output

    Hi,
    Can anyone tell me that how to set default file path while downloading the ALV output to system using Local file button on tool bar.
    Please look below screenshots:
    Kindly help me resolve it.
    Thanks in advance.

    This information initial value is (maybe) stored in Windows Register (register.exe) at Software\SAP\SAPGUI Front\SAP Frontend Server\Filetransfer -> PathDownload, you can read it thru class CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES method GET_UPLOAD_DOWNLOAD_PATH and update it thru method REGISTRY_SET_VALUE. (Else there may be some parameter ID to force data, but I'm no longer sure)

  • How do I set the default file path for the Place command?

    I keep my graphics files for each document in a particular folder. Every time I open an existing InDesign document and place a new image I have to browse back to that location - even though all of the previous images in that document came from the same folder. InDesign does not remember the file path that was used previously in the document. This is very annoying.
    IS THERE A WAY TO SET THE DEFAULT FILE PATH, OR LOCATION, FOR IMAGE FILES?
    I have looked through the preferences, searched the forums and internet, but I have not found any reference to setting default paths. Is there a setting like the one in MS Word called "File Locations" on the Options toolbox?
    Thank you.

    Since you're working in ID on Windows, you can take advantage of a neat trick in Windows. Copy the file path out of the File Explorer address bar and paste it directly into the Place filename field. That will jump you directly to the desired volume. For example, let's say I want to place a graphic located at X:\PS Jobs\May PS\709672bp\Working Source Files\Links. I copy that entire path from the File Explorer address bar, go to InDesign, select File|Place, and press Control + V to paste that path into the filename field. I press the Open button and Shazam! I'm there instantly, without a bunch of navigation.
    You can do the same thing in the File|Save As and File|Export fields. Let's say you want export a PDF file from InDesign to the volume X:\PS Jobs\May PS\709672bp\Working PDF Files. First copy the desired file path from the File Explorer window. In InDesign, select File|Export, click anywhere in the filename field, and press the Home key to move the insertion point to the front of the filename. Press Control + V to paste that path in front of the filename, then add the backslash character (\). The filename will now look like this: X:\PS Jobs\May PS\709672bp\Working PDF Files\Filename.pdf. Press the Save button to bring up the Export Adobe PDF window. Select your desired PDF preset, press the Export button, and the PDF file will magically appear in the desired volume.
    This sounds really complicated, but it's not. In practice, it only takes a few seconds. I probably save an hour's worth of needless navigation every day with this technique.

  • CS4 Set default file type when placing file

    The File->Place dialog box has a default file type of 'Importable files.'  Is it possible to set the default to All files (or anything else)?  Making the change manually does not seem to stick.  I have the same general question regarding File->Open.  A search of the forums returned one hit (unanswered) in the Dreamweaver forum.
    Thank you.
    Dick Conrad

    Peter:
    Good question.  One of our editors made this request, and I believe that he works with files that lack extensions.  But controlling the default would also let us go in the other direction: quickly see only .rtf or .txt files, for example.
    Any trick would be impractical if it lived in InDesign Defaults.  All ID users get the same copy, and no two editors would want the same filter.
    Thanks for your response.

  • Will EC support setting default file type and Open With from file menu?

    The default file types I can live without, but at least allow for Open With on right click from Windows Explorer.
    I currently have EC set in the Open With programs list, but EC does not comply for any files I opt to open it with (.css, .php, .html etc).
    EC open but not the file I choose.
    Also, even though the above use case is not ideal when if I do attempt an Open With when EC is already open, a new application session starts instead of attempting to open in the currently active app frame. It would be ideal to allow for single app frame, multiple files when Open With is employed.
    Darrell

    Hey Darrell,
    Thanks for the feedback. How Edge Code treats files is definitely something we know isn't ideal and it's something we're looking at fixing soon. There's currently a story on the Brackets backlog that adresses the Open With issue - https://trello.com/c/GhF1Bgf9
    And it based on howit ranks in that priority it looks like we could potentially take that into Edge Code over the next couple of months.
    This is definitely a feature that we think is important before we consider ourselves 1.0 so it's high priority.

  • Setting project default file locations and a few random interface questions

    I apologize for the randomness of this post, but it seemed better than spamming a bunch of different posts in a short period of time.  I've been using Premiere Elements 9 for about 6 months now and there are a few little things that I'd like to tweak.
    I'd like to change the default file save location for a project.  I've got different projects in different folders and it seems like I should be able to set a default save location for each project.  All I've ever been able to find in the help is how to set the scratch folder, which is different.
    I'd like to change the default encoding preset for a project.  For example, I have a custom preset for mp4 under the mobile phone category.  It would be nice to have that be the default whenever I pick the mobile phone category.
    With birthdays and concerts and plays and all that stuff I have about 50 videos and a couple hundred large photos already.  Every time Premiere loads, it takes a few extra seconds to load up all of the thumbnails.  I hide all the videos and pictures on the Organize tab and save the project, but it never sticks.  Is this just impossible?
    Finally, every so often, the end-of-clip marker acts funny.  I don't know what the proper name for it is, but it is the thing under the mouse cursor in the picture below.  It used to automatically move on the time line as I added or deleted clips.  Somehow I clicked a button and it no longer does that.  After a week or so of not working, it goes back to automatically adjusting as I add and delete clips from the timeline and then it will break again.  Ideas?
    Also in the timeline, I now have this huge gap of nothingness on top of video 1, see picture.  My ocd says that Video1 and Audio 1 should be at the very top and the gap should be on the bottom.  Ideas?
    Thanks,
    Bob

    I kind of wish you'd have spread these questions out over a couple of posts so that we could answer each thoroughly. If I answer all of them in depth in a single post, this answer would be the size of one of my books! (which, by the way, contain many of the answers to these questions.)
    1. The default save location for your videos should be the last place you've saved your video to. So that should happen automatically. Although in my books I recommend that, whenever you start a new project, you create a new folder for it. This is good housekeeping and a good way to keep your tmp and render files in the same place on your drive, which has a number of advantages.
    2. You can't create a custom project preset. The only presets available are the ones Adobe provides. And, although they are pretty extensive, some non-traditional formats (like video from some mobile phones) are not well supported. You may be able to get it to work -- but it's usually a hybrid solution and, personally, if you plan to use your phone's video as your main video source, I'd recommend you look at another video editing program. Premiere Elements doesn't do the hybrid stuff well. It's ideally suited for video from traditional camcorders.
    3. The thumbnails you see when the program loads are not in your current project. At least not until you import them into your Project panel. That Media panel is merely a preview to what's in your Organizer catalog. As I explain in my book, it's usually best to ignore this panel until you really learn your way around the basics of this program. It's very confusing. Fortunately, it adds very little load time to the program itself -- regardless of how much time it seems to add.
    4. The thing in the illustration is the Work Area Bar. It's used to isolate a segment of your timeline for rendering, etc. Usually, it will shrink and grow as you add and remove video from your timeline. Unfortunately, there's a bug in version 9 and, if you manually change it once during a project, you'll have to manually change it for the rest of the time you work on the project. But, if you drag each end of the Work Area Bar to cover your entire timeline of videos, your project shouldn't misbehave.
    5. The "gap of nothingness" on your timeline is just room for you to add more audio and video tracks if you'd like to. It's a good thing to have! BTW, as I'm sure you know (and my books, once again, explain) you can toggle the tracks on your timeline so that they display as either compressed (as in your illustration) or wide open, which allows you to see your clips and control audio and video levels. Once again, this is a very good thing!
    Happy moviemaking.

  • How to set the system default file character encoding to UTF-8?

    Hi all. This is driving me nuts, on both my Windows box and Snow Leopard; I figure much more chance of finding the answer for OS X.
    My language and locale are set to Australian English. $LANG=en_AU.UTF-8
    However, as I believe is expected, OS X (and Windows for that matter) will create files by default with character encoding of Cp1252 (Latin-1). That is, the FILE encoding in the file metadata - the Byte Order Mark I believe. The file itself, not the characters written to it.
    This, in a word, bites. I don't want to be restricted to only ASCII by default, and it is causing me problems with certain software (a Firefox plugin) that creates text files, passing in UTF-8 encoded content, which is then mangled because the file encoding itself is still Cp1252. (I know, I've tested this by changing the file encoding manually and having it overwritten again by the plugin: works correctly.)
    As a simple example, just `touch somefile` from terminal creates a file in Cp1252 -- I'm obtaining that info by opening in jEdit by the way (anyone know of something better?).
    In other locales that are not English-based, I believe the default file encoding is UTF-8. But surely this can be controlled independently? There must be a system configuration value somewhere that specifies file encoding default. Can someone please tell me what it is?
    Thanks!

    However, as I believe is expected, OS X (and Windows for that matter) will create files by default with character encoding of Cp1252 (Latin-1). That is, the FILE encoding in the file metadata - the Byte Order Mark I believe. The file itself, not the characters written to it.
    Apps like TextEdit and Mail have settings that let you determine the encoding of text produced. The default would normally depend on the character content of the file, ranging from ASCII for basic English to Windows Latin-1 (Win 1252) or ISO Latin -1 (ISO 8859-1) to UTF-8 for other content.
    Win 1252 is not ASCII, but has twice the number of characters in the latter.
    Byte Order Mark is something totally different --it's a particular character used to signal certain encodings.

    As a simple example, just `touch somefile` from terminal creates a file in Cp1252 -- I'm obtaining that info by opening in jEdit by the way (anyone know of something better?).
    For what Terminal does and how to change it, it might best to post in the Unix forum:

    For problems with a FireFox plugin, it might be good to ask on their own forums as well.

  • How To Set Third Party Media App Is Default When Launched From Default File Manager

    I use rock media player, which can encode & decode The Video and audio files i use, unlike the phone i have, i don't receive the option to set the app as the default media player. I would really like to be able to use this app on the thrive as it is some much a better media player than the thrives defaulty app. Rock player is the name of the app, who do set it as the default player when launched from the default file manager.

    From my experience playing with the Thrive, when you attempt to watch a media file, it will open a menu asking you what application to use. From that popup, you can set a default.

    actually i think konqueror is more powerfull in kde3. However, the dolphin version in kde4 trunk is shaping up nice and looks promising.
    Dolphin is a little bit less cluttered, and seems to be faster too.  Most of the features in konquerer I never use.

  • Set nautilus as default file manager in kde?

    I would give kde a good chance, but I have several issues with konqueror. Is it possible to set nautilus as the default file manager in kde? I have started nautilus from kde before.
    Is this possible?

    OK then. Install nautilus.
    control center > file associations > inode > directory [ then add: "nautilus --no-desktop" ] (make sure it's primary in the list)
    You'll not be able to open KIO slaves such as media:// with nautilus though. Maybe you should create launchers on the desktop running "nautilus --no-desktop computer://" etc?
    There are some other cosmetic changes you can do as well, such as installing gnome-volume-manager, gnome-settings-dameon, gnome-control-center etc.
    Another way is just to add "nautilus --no-desktop" as default application for inode > directory, but don't add it as *primary*, but secondary application, so you can right click and choose "open with nautilus" on the desktop/konqueror.
    I've successfully run a complete nautilus desktop replacing konqueror as root window and file manager, and it works really good actually.
    I did uncheck "icons on desktop" and disabled wallpaper in kcontrol.
    Had to disable "hal backend" in kde to let gnome-volume-manager take care of hal mounts; "HalBackendEnabled=false" in .kde/share/config/mediamanagerrc
    Then i had to run "gnome-settings-daemon &" in .kde/Autostart/startup (this file should be executable, as usual) (nautilus itself is a GUI application and will survive  the next session on it's own, because of KDE session managment)
    I took the easy route and installed the whole "gnome" metapackage instead of selective packages though.
    The only problem was that kedit.desktop didn't want to start as default application for say, text files, but i had to enter kedit manually in that box you get during "open with dialog".
    I bastardized KDE, i know
    It was worth it! hehe
    BTW dolphin/d3lphin is really good too, as lucke pointed out.
