Default language and region, oracle ignores users wishes

hi!
oracle seems to ignore users language wishes. for test, i
installed oracle 9i client. i'm using windows 2k us english, but
use localization of switzerland (numbers, date, etc.).
the installer was:
- in german
no way to convice it to go to english
- i removed german from the installed product languages,
i just left english.
then i started enterprise manager:
- it was in german!!
no way to get it to use english
- all the umlauts were desplayed
strangely.
you should really rethink your concept of localization. language
is NOT localization. a gui should offer to change the used
language EASILY (one click). a database should offer to change
the language in wich it writes error messages easily.

The Oracle installer and the enterprise manager pick up the
user's perferred language from the regional setting on your
Windows OS. Did you by any chance set your locale on Windows to
German (Swiss) ?
Regarding the language of the database error messages, this is
driven by the language part of the NLS_LANG environment
variable. This is also session based, so it you really want to
you can have the 1st error message in German , follow by the
next one in French , and then in Italian etc ....

Unable to find "Language and Region" link

Hi,
I am trying to customize language and region settings via my MySite using the below link. I spent an hour yesterday trying to find "Language and Region" link in the Edit Profile page, however, I could not. Is there a feature I need to activate
to see this link or enable something in Central Admin?
I only see Basic Information, Contact Information, Details, and Newsfeed Settings.

According to your description, my understanding is that you can't see the "Language and Region" link in mysite Edit Profile Page.
I suggest you can check if you have checked "Show on the Edit Details Page" in the Central Administrator ->Manage Service Application->User Profile Service Application->Manage User Properties->Language and Regions->All
child properties under Language and Region.

In the advanced tab of languages and Region the time and date formats will not change

For a certian Application I am using I need to change the format of the Time and Date. I had no problems in Mountain Lion. In the advanced tab of languages and Region the time and date formats will not change. I need the date format to read as 01/01/14 and time format to read 13:00. As I said this was easily done in Mountain Lion and all previous Apple OS. I suspect it's an issue with in the OS.

You're right, it has been that way for a long time. I've never bothered reporting it as a bug since it's simple enough to deal with, but reporting it would be a reasonable thing to do.

Set default Skin and Layout for all users

Hi all,
Im using UCM 10GR3 and i must set an default skin and layout for all users.
Into General Configurations Field > System Variables i set
LMDefaultSkin=MySkin
LMDefaultLayout=MyLayout
But this didnt work. Anybody have a clue?
My skin is working fine but i have to change via My Profile.

It is in the help, the issue is with finding it!
Click Help > Contents & Index.
When the help opens enter Default Language. The important bit is to tick This Reference Only so that you stay in the help. That tells you how to set the default language but not how to get to the screen where you do that. To get to that you need to go up a level, use the breadcrumbs.
I realise it's too late for what you wanted but it may help knowing how to get another answer in the future.

New language and region in Email Definition properties lookups

I want to use Russian language in Email Definition, but I don't see it in Email Definition language property.
How can I install it or make to appear in properties lookup - Russian language and Russia region?

I found out myself.
There are two lookups: "Global.Lookup.Language" and "Global.Lookup.Region". Simply I had to add necessary values "ru" and "RU".

I am unable to activate my iPhone 4S, I have tried via Wifi and iTunes but it keeps failing. I get as far as select language and region before it fails to activate. I know Wifi is ok

I am trying to activate my new handset which is iPhone4S. After selecting region and language I connect to Wifi (which I know is working) and it tries to activate. My Ipad and Iphone both are a mixture of german and english. I have changed the language and region to english and US but it still has a mixture of english and german. Please help.

Where are you seeing German ? If it's the two stores (iTunes and the App Store) then as far as I know they can't be changed - they will be in the language of the country where your account is based (if they aren't correct then try logging out of your account by tapping on your id in Settings > Store and then log back in).

Windows Feedback app - Language and Region

If I run Windows feedback app I see trending suggestion mainly in my nativ language (czech). But I want so see trending suggestions from all regions. How can I chage it? (I dont believe that something obout cortana in czech is trending suggestion all over

Based on my test, it depends on your language preference. If you switch the current language through press WIN+Space key to another one, it would switch the corresponding language interface for you. No other setting to change it.

Language and Region Date Preferences not working

Date set up is for UK (day/month/year), whichever format I use for cells in Numbers, it's aways MM leading.
I tried everything on 2 separate machines and it's not working on both. What am I doing wrong ?

Custom column in a list view web part for a multilingual site does not take on custom language labels. Stays in default language.

I have what so far appears to be a fairly unique problem. We are running a multilingual SharePoint 2010 environment with English as the default language and French as the secondary. We have setup the sites in a variance relationship, but the
issue I am discussing happens outside of a variant as well.
We have created a library outside the variant (but within the collection) that the two sites must share. A list view web part was created via Designer to add to each site to provide a quick view into the list. If we are in the libary and switch
to French, then update the column label it will remember the setting (because of the resource file) and maintain it as the language is flipped back and forth. Where it doesn't work is as a web part in a variant or where the language is different.
If the language is different, the out of the box columns work find, but the custom columns (all site columns not library\list columns) remain as the english label. It doesn't matter if within a variant or outside with the browser language changed.
It always reverts back to English. It's like it isn't using the same resource file that was used in the list itself.
I created a custom view and modified it with xslt as per

I can't be the first that has come across it, either I am not performing my searches properly, no one has ever documented a fix for this or this is something we just can't fix with OOTB tools. That's the other thing, the solution has to be accomplised
OOTB or with minor client side changes. I can't fire up Visual Studio because they are piloting Office 365 and have put a "No custom code" mandate on for migration.

Ok, I have come up with a solution. I edited the XSLT for the web part on the page. I did the following:
1.   Create the variants in the Site Ccollection
2.   Create the library outside of the variants.
3.   Add all the columns you require for the library. It is very important all the columns are there before you move on.
4.   Create a French and English view.
5.   Create the list view web part via designer.
6.   Add the list view web part to each site selecting the appropriate view to use.
7.      Edit the page in SharePoint Designer 2010.
8.      Place cursor in the column you wish to modify.
9.      Click Design in the List View Tools on the ribbon.
10.     Then click Customize XSLT and select Customize Item. Select this option otherwise you will generate a **LOT** of unnecessary XSL code.
11.     You are looking for a piece that resembles the following:
        <xsl:with-param name="fieldtitle">
          <xsl:value-of select="@DisplayName"/>
        </xsl:with-param>
12.      Modify it by typing in the actual column name you want. You should end up with something like this:
        <xsl:with-param name="fieldtitle">
          New Column Name.
        </xsl:with-param>
13.      Now, for this page only, the column will be renamed.
There are some caveats:
1.   Doesn’t appear to work in a publishing portal. I think this has to do with how SP stores the pages in this case. In a publishing portal you can only modify the page layout which won’t work as we need to modify the content.
2.   If you add another column, you will need to repeat the XSLT modification
Anyways, I hope this helps out any others with the same issue or need as I had.

new to GPO, we have a small Windows Server 2012 domain, all clients on Win7 or Win8. All the clients require the following changes, anything I can automate this with GPO? thanks

Under Control Panel\Clock, Language, and Region\Language > Traditional Chinese HK SAR > Options, Add Microsoft Quick IME
Under Control Panel\Clock, Language, and Region\Language\Advanced settings - change language bar hot keys
- CTRL+SHIFT+0 ------ To English (United States) - US
- CTRL+SHIFT+0 ------ To Chinese (Traditional, Taiwan) - Microsoft Quick IME
Under Control Panel > Region > Advimistrative > Change System Locale... change to Chinese HK SAR for non-unicode programs
Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display > Change the size of all items, use custom 123%.
Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display > Update Text size to 8 for Title bars, Menu, Message Boxes, Icons, Tooltips
I found this for the display scaling registry changes but it is for 125% and it uses 78 for the dword value, not sure about custom 123%.

According to your description, you would like to deploy some settings about language and display via GPO.
According to my knowledge, the steps you provided are from Windows 8 clients. Based on my test, you can use the following methods to realize:
Add Traditional Chinese HK SAR. Locate the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Keyboard Layout\Preload, and then add a String Value "next number"(which has not been used)=00000404.
The region settings. Please refer to the similar post:

How to reset report output back to default language.

Hello Everyone,
I am working on 11i to R12 up-gradation process.
I need to move some reports from 11i to R12 and resolve bugs which report faces after shifting.
I am working on one report of output type : PDF named 'Delivery Note Report' in SCM-Order Management,
It is a RDF with template report and not XML publisher(there is no separate RTF).
RDF template is prepared with English text.
In 11i report output comes in EN-US(Standard English) language
whereas in R12 it is coming in Kenyan language.
I need to set output language to default EN-US, how can I proceed ?

Hello Experts,
I checked user preferences : it is set to EN-US
I checked concurrent program language details : it is American English
I got to know about a file named : uifont.ali (present in middle tier /ora/R12/apps/tech_st/10.1.2/guicommon/tk/admin)
it contains PDF:subset section in it we can specify the particular language/font in which we want output of our report.
I tried replacing this section with default language and restarted report server, even I tried removing that file from middle tier(just for testing purpose).
Can anyone suggest any other approach as still the issue exist.
