Default topic for unmapped IDs

I have been going through my client's application, with
BugHunter enabled, and when I find a dialog box that has not yet
been mapped in the Map ID file, I add the map ID and the associated
topic. But - what if I miss a "buried" dialog box? Currently, a
help call (via Help button or F1) results in a "failed to launch
help" message if the map ID isn't specifically assigned. The
developer, understandably, wants a default topic to appear,
instead.
I have set the "Default Topic" field in the Properties dialog
box for the primary layout (HTML Help), but that doesn't seem to
work in the case of unmapped IDs. So, the question arises, what IS
it for?? and how do I do what the developer wants?

I just replied to this post with an extensive replay and was
told I had "censored words in my post." So it killed it. I'm really
curious what those might have been.
In short, the default topic is the topic that opens when
there is no topic reference. In case of a bad topic reference (bad
map ID), the help won't be able to open. To avoid this you should
be able to get a list of used map numbers from your developer. Open
that side by side with your .hh file and look for missing numbers.
I like to do this in Excel, so I can sort by number and make it
easier.

We did it in one of our system by creating a transaction variant that defaults to EN. We had a issue with MM/DD/YYYY though even with the transaction variant.
Actually there is a paramter zcsa/moddatfm ( Parameter for Default date format when creating users with transactions SU01 ). By default its value is 1 for DD.MM.YYYY and it has to be changed to 2 for MM/DD/YYYY.

How to configure and set a default view for contents of a data set

Here is my scenario:
I have a document library where each item is a "Plan". "Plan" is of a custom content type that inherits from a Document Set content type but has some additional attributes such as Plan Type. Inside each Plan, each item is
a Plan Document which is of custom content type Plan Document which inherits from Document content type but has some additional attributes e.g. Document Status.
So the hierarchy is:
All Plans (document library)
Plan 1 (custom content type that inherits from Document Set but also has a "Plan Type" attribute)
Plan Document (custom content type that inherits from Document but also has a "Document Status" attribute
When I click on the document library, I want to see all the folders (e.g. Plan 1) where one of the columns will be "Plan Type"
When I click on an individual Plan (e.g. Plan 1) I want to see the contents of that custom document set. At this point, since this page shows contents of one document set, I want to see the column "Document Status" but NOT Plan Type since
Plan Type applies to the document set as a whole, not to an individual item in that document set.
However, I don't think I have it set up correctly because right now the "Plan Type" column is visible both on the list of all document sets AND on the page that shows the contents of one document set.

where one person said "When you click on a Document Set content type in library settings, one of the options is "Document Set settings". The last option in this dialogue allows you to select a defined view on the library that will be used
to show the contents of that Document Set." I don't see that view selection. The last item on the document set settings page is "Update List and Site Content Types". The field before that is for customizing the Welcome page.
However, I don't want to customize the Welcome Page as a whole, I just want to customize the columns that are displayed on the list of content of this document set.

I finally found the answer:
At the document library level, create a new view to use when displaying the files in the document set
Go to the document library settings
Select your custom content type (in my case it was "Plan")
In the next screen select Document Set settings
Select your newly created view at the Welcome Page View section
Press Ok
Now the default All Documents view will be shown when displaying all the document sets and the newly created view will be displayed when viewing one document set with the files within.

Default value for variable are not within permitted value range (precalc)

Issue:
I have created a variable (Characteristic Value/ Manual input-default value) and use the precalculated value set (details-basic settings). In the further variable definition I could select the precalculated value set in 'Default values', which I have defined beforehand in the broadcaster..
The precalculated value set in the broadcaster settings is just based on a master data query on 0CUSTOMER.
Error:
The variable gets the error E991/R9E Errors: Default values for variable 'XXX' are not within permitted value range.
The detail description of the error is: You defined default values for variable 'Sold-to party precalc value set for manuel input' that are not appropriate for the variable type; for example, a range is defined as a default value for a variable that only permits a single value.
So please has someone had the same issue and found out how to solve it? It would be excelent to get good solution for this issue.

Opening Default Topic page in a new window

Hi there,
I am new to RoboHelp HTML. I have recently started using it
for work and was asked to look into something.
I am using version 7.
The problem we have is that the RoboHelp html files are being
incorporated into a web application. There is a link in the
application called "User Guide". This link opens up the RoboHelp
html files in the same browser window as the application.
Therefore, when the user wishes to go back to the application or
close the help files, he/she can't because it's all in one window
and the application has session (so it wont let you go back to the
application if you are in the help).
I know it's possible to simply add a Target="_blank" to the
actual "User Guide" link on the application side - for it to open
the help files in a new browser window.
However, I wanted to know if there is any way to configure
the RoboHelp HTML to start the inital page - default topic in a new
window from the actual RoboHelp software.
Can someone shed some light on this please?
I hope my question is clear enough, like I said, I am new to
RoboHelp so my apologies if I haven't explained myself clearly
enough or used the right words.

Hi Estel-mm and welcome to our community
Your requirement cannot be met with simple use of RoboHelp
HTML. It will likely require hand crafting some special JavaScript
function to make it work. And here's the rub. Assuming you get it
to work, it may have an adverse effect in that if you configure the
default topic to open this way and your end user just happens to
land on that Default topic again, poof! Another new window.

Publishing with TCS3 - how to set the default topic?

I am having a problem with the new Publishing function of FM10/TCS3. Here is how I proceed:
1. Create a RoboHelp project.
2. Create a link to the FrameMaker book and update (the link properties are set to generate a TOC).
3. Tweak the import settings until layout fits.
4. Select the generated TOC in the SSL and set the title page as default topic.
5. Generate HTML help output and test.
6. When all is fine, export isf file and close Robohelp.
Now the idea would be that I can edit the book using Framemaker and generate HTML Help output without using Robohelp:
1. Open Book in Framemaker and edit. I also need to edit the title page.
2. Select File > Publish.
3. Select the Robohelp projekt and isf file.
4. Generate HTML Help.
Result. Everthing works fine, except for the title page - the online help still displays the default topic at the state is had in the Robohelp project, before I edited the Framemaker file. When I select the title page manualy from the TOC, then the correct updated page is displayed. That means that both versions are contained in the CHM and the correct version is linked to the TOC, but the wrong version is set as default topic.
Any solution to this? Otherwise I might file a bug report.

do you mean to say that you selected a different topic as default in the RoboHelp project and later while File Publish you changed the default topics - the question is from where did you do it (in RoboHelp project?) and this selecting from TOC is not clear (as default topic selection combo in SSL does not shows TOC but all the topics present).
Secondly Did you used the same FM file set to create .isf from RoboHelp project that was used later for File Publish option or did you created a downsample of you FM file set in the RoboHelp project.
One of the things I would suggest is that if you are that proficient with RoboHelp (the way you linked and did mapping and all) then why go to FrameMaker to Publish, as you can create the same output right there sitting the RoboHelp project (while you are creating the .isf - mapping that you require). It will give you more flexibility with respect to the output generation like applying a different CSS to all the topics before generating output
one last explanation what seems to have happened in your case is that you selected a different topics (topics generated from the linked FM in RoboHelp project) and while publish the files used for output is the one generated through import of the FM book in the RoboHelp project (which is a different set of files) and thus the outputs default topics would be the one generated from your linked FM document (the one that you selected while creating the .isf file)
If you use linked FM documents and generate online outputs from RoboHelp you would have a better control over these online outputs and for PDF you can always generate it from FrameMaker

SonicWall SourceNAT VPN setup as default route for all traffic!

Hi,OK hope someone can help with this mess.....Our customer has been taken over by a US company who have said all outgoing internet traffic must go via their data centre. They want us to create an IPSEC vpn from our SonicWALL TZ215 to them then route all traffic locally via this VPN.In principle this didn't sound too bad. Then there were some more options:Our local subnet 172.x.x.x has to be NAT'd to a single /32 address. 192.x.x.131They also require our destination network to be set as 0.0.0.0. as they wont specify the range at the datacenter.I have managed to get the VPN up but using the the NAT address as my local subnet and using the option on the SonicWALL "Use this VPN Tunnel as default route for all Internet traffic" on the remote network. Phase 1 and Phase 2 work ok. The problem i now have is i need to route all LAN traffic...

Canceling AIR Update - Default Topic Displayed

Here's a scenario being reported by one of my testers:
Install old AIR with customer's InstallShield setup program.
Install AIR Help file with customer's InstallShield setup program.
User clicks context-sensitive Help button.
AIR Update dialog is displayed.
User cancels the update.
The default topic (not the mapped topic) is displayed in AIR Help.
User closes Help.
User clicks Help button again.
The AIR Update dialog is not displayed.
The correct (mapped) topic appears. Other mappings are also correct, and AIR Update dialog is not displayed again subsequently.
Can anyone explain how this is happening? The Boss suggests there may be a switch in the installation program that could turn off the update process. Is this correct?

The tester says that clicking the button brings up the dialog for updating AIR, not AIR Help. The Help does not have AutoUpdate turned on at generation time, and thus it cannot be turned on by the user.
Obviously, the developers should be using the current AIR install, but I can see a point in the future where the install CD would be out of synch with the current version of AIR. And, users should update AIR as often as needed, but they may not want toi, for whatever reason.
The Boss wants the user to not see the default topic when clicking the button for a mapped topic, even if AIR itself needs updating. He's asking if there's a way to bypass the update AIR dialog.

Changing Default Topic / Start Page

I'm working with RoboHelp 7 and am currently creating a process handbook in WebHelp Pro (single project - no merged projects). After extending the scope of the content, I decided to change the default topic or rather the start page's name to reflect the new content. What happens now is that when I open the new default topic ( .../!SSL!/WebHelp_Pro/NEW_DEFAULT_TOPIC.htm ), it displays the content of this page, but not the RoboHelp navigation panes to the left and at the top (TOC and Search/Glossary tabs). Instead you can see the word "Show" at the top left with a link. If you click on it, it finally opens the full screen with navigation panes and the URL changes to
.../!SSL!/WebHelp_Pro/OLD_DEFAULT_TOPIC.htm#NEW_DEFAULT_TOPIC.htm
How can I completely remove the reference to the old default topic and change the default topic in such a way that it immediately opens the full RoboHelp screen with navigation panes and start page right when linking to / opening the new default topic?

Sorry that I misinterpreted your question. Exactly how did you rename your project? If you rename it trough the Project settings, you only rename the title of the project, not the files themselves.
To rename your project, choose File | Rename project. This will rename all your project files, if you use source control, check out all your files first!
To avoid the 'detour', don't output the WebHelp through the project toolbar. Instead, choose File | Generate primary layout and in 'select output folder and file name' set the folder you want to publish AND rename the filename OLD_DEFAULT_TOPIC.htm to the filename you want.
You can set the name of this opening topic to anything you want, the first topic is merely the topic that the help system (==OLD_DEFAULT_TOPIC.htm) opens.

Change default directory for Creative files (such as Media Databa

I'm using a Zen xtra with WinXP Pro on my company laptop. The Creative software puts a lot of files (7 MB!) in my user profile under Document and Settings. Unfortunately, this is making my profile larger than my company allows, since they back up the profile over the network.
How can I change the default directory for these file? I can't find any .ini files that might declare the path, and I can't find anything in the Windows Registry that points to my profile.

Thanks for the suggestion of deleting the JetFileBackup folder, Micromouse. I'll try it.
Any other files look deletable? Without any way to move them, I may have to try deleting some and see what happens.
I'm not even sure which Creative programs can be uninstalled (other than Nomad Explorer) and still be able to use MediaSource to play songs from my Zen Xtra (through a USB connection). Windows Add/Remove Programs says that I've used all of these programs today:
Creative Jukebox Driver
Creative MediaSource
Creative MediaSource AudioSync Plugin
Creative MediaSource NOMAD Jukebox 2/3/Zen Plugin
Creative NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra
But all I've done is open MediaSource and start a playlist from my Zen Xtra. Anybody know which of those can be uninstalled without affecting my use? (Maybe this deserves a separate topic.)

Incorrect .chm "Default" Topic

I am working with a software developer on releasing an updated .chm for an application. For some reason when Help is called from the application, it opens with the incorrect default topic. The developer compared this application to another and said that they are matching up, no differences so the problem must lie within the Help project.
I have:
1. Re-imported both the correct default topic and the one that is appearing incorrectly;
2. Deleted and completely re-created both of the topics;
3. Checked map ID's (neither one uses a map ID);
4. Compared the Help project with issues to a project that has been working correctly.
I have been told that everything on the development end with the coding and Help tags is identical to those applications that are calling Help correctly. When I go out to the network where the Help file resides and open it directly, it opens to the correct default topic. The problem occurs only when calling it from the application.
Is there any way to look within the RH project and see what could be causing this issue or does it sound like a problem on the coding side? Any and all feedback would be appreciated greatly! Thanks!

Hmmm, I would find that to be very odd. Here's why I say that. The area I pointed you to is normally devoid of content. I've never seen the Advanced Properties of the Window definition contain any data. My thought was that by populating it, perhaps the situation would resolve. Admittedly, this is a "last resort" sort of a "long shot". I am not a sports person, but I think it may be called a Hail Mary?
Are you certain you looked in the right place? My thought is that you looked at the Single Source Layout properties and saw the Default Topic configured there and you are possibly mistaking this for the Window properties.
Another thought is to define a totally new window, then configure that as the default window.

Default topic not diplaying in app

RH 6 build 099, XP2002 SP2
I'm working on a project for v2 software that may have been
created in an earlier version of RH, but probably was 6. The v1 chm
generated from this same project (before I added any topics)
launches correctly in v2 (no map ID for topic).
Checked the default topic settings in output and
Windows>advanced. Generated a clean project with one topic.
Still seeing the error. Had someone else gen a clean project on
RH6, same problem (eliminates my RH install and additions to chm as
the issue).
Help call from dev has not changed from v1 ->v2

The KeyHH command is simply trying to open the HTML topic
file called "Getting_Started.htm" in the help file Help.chm. Can
you verify that the topic file name is still "Getting_Started.htm"
and that the internal path to this file is unchanged (that is, the
file is still in the top-level "root" of the help file)?
To do this, open the help file and browse to the Getting
Started topic. Then right-click the top pane, click Properties on
the context menu, and check what is displayed in the Address (URL)
field. If everything is set up correctly in your help project, the
address shown should look like this:
