Default Value Type

Hi! All,
I'am using Oracle portal
In the form wizard there is an option for using 'defalt value' for any text fiels along with 'defult value type'. I want to know how effectively I can use sql query function written by me or any sql query .And from where can I get the details about this.
till now I can only used #sysdate in the default value.Also what # denotes.
Please do help me
Thakns in advance.
Regards
Anil Rath

Try these:
1)Default Value = select schema_name.your_function from dual
Default Value Type = Expression that returns Date
2)Default Value = select sysdate from dual
Default Value Type = Expression that returns Date
3) #Sysdate

  • Custom CAPI service - default value of varchar2 parameter

    I have a Custom CAPI Service function. That function has a varchar2 parameter (argument) and I wish to set a default value NULL for that parameter.
    I set Default=null, and when I generate CAPI package, my function in that package looks like this (notice the quotation marks around null):
    function cs_cjn_prod_cijena
    ( p_nacin_prodaje in varchar2 default 'null'
    return number
    is ...
    And it should look like this:
    function cs_cjn_prod_cijena
    ( p_nacin_prodaje in varchar2 default null
    return number
    is ...
    I tried setting Default Value Type to Literal, Database Function Call, Client Function Call, but it's always the same thing.
    If that parameter was number or date it would generate ok.
    It seems like the bug in "Generate CAPI Definition" Headstart Utility.
    I know that I can make my function's code to treat the string 'null' as a null default value, but I'd like to have a "real" null as a default value.
    Does anybody have a solution for this?
    Thanks!
    Dalibor

    Marcel,
    Thank you for your answer, but it didn't help. I have already tried using Database Function Call. This time I tried deleting the CAPI package from repository before generating it again, like you suggested, but it didn't help.
    I still get: p_nacin_prodaje in varchar2 default 'null'
    Which version of Create CAPI Definition utility do you have?
    My version is: HSU_CAPI, Revision: 6.5.2.0 ("Help/About This Utility" in Headstart Utilities application)
    Thanks again,

  • How to set a default value for a page item

    I am working with a facility table that has name and address information. The user can add contact name information on a separate page. Since the address for the facility and contact is usually the same, I want to add a default value for the contact address. The facility page is on 201 and the link to add a new contact row is on page 202. I showed in the default value :P201_street for the contact's address. But, when I run the page, the contact address field shows the :P201_street, not the actual facility address. What am I leaving out? Must be something obvious?!
    Thanks very much.
    Judy

    In the default value, I showed: v('P201_STREET1') with the default value type of: PL/SQL Expression and received the following oracle error ==> Item default is not a PL/SQL expression. Use &ITEM syntax. The v('ITEM') syntax is not valid for item defaults. So I changed it to: &P201_STREET1 and got another oracle error , ERR-9132 error in PLSQL expression for item default code, item=P202_STREET1.
    Any more suggestions? Thx.

  • How can I set default value in a field based on a LOV?

    Here's the LOV:
    select txtName, ID
    from FAC_LK_PROJECT_PRIORITY
    order by 1
    I tried:
    select id from FAC_LK_PROJECT_PRIORITY priority where txtname = 'Medium';
    and set the default value type to be PL/SQL function body but that didn't work - I get this error:
    ORA-06550: line 2, column 1: PLS-00428: an INTO clause is expected in this SELECT statement
    Error ERR-9131 Error in PLSQL function body for item default code, item=P19_PRIORITYID
    OK
    The item is a select list w/ db column as source: PRIORITYID

    Hi Scott. thanks for answering. I get from your post that I need to declare a variable and then return something. I changed it to this
    declare v_id number := null;
    begin
      select id into v_id
          from FAC_LK_PROJECT_PRIORITY priority
          where txtname = 'Medium';
      return v_id;
    end;and it works.
    Why do you use a loop? In case there's >1 row returned by the query?

  • How to set a default value of " " for a VARCHAR2 in ER diagram?

    Hi,
    I am trying to set the default value of a VARCHAR2 attribute to " " (space) in an ER diagram. But it just thinks I don't want anything for the default value. If I specify CHR(32) will it work? or is there another way? Will I have to wait until I get into the server model to do this, if so how do I do it there?
    thx
    adam

    Are you sure you want the default to be a space, not a NULL? VARCHAR2 fields want to trim spaces from the right, which makes them NULL if they started as all spaces. You can force them to accept spaces, but it is an unnatural condition. Even the VARCHAR2 columns that I use as surrogates for booleans I set as 'Y' for true and 'N' for false, or 'T' for true and 'F' for false. Occasionally, it will be 'X' for selected and NULL for not selected, but the NULLs tend to cause trouble so I avoid them.
    Okay, let's assume that you have a good reason to default to a space. Use ' ', including the single quotes. When you transform to a Table Definition, change the Default Value Type for the column to a Database Function Call. You can't do that in the logical (Entity/Attribute) design, only in the physical (Table/Column). That will make sure that the Server generator will leave it the way you wrote it.

  • Setting Default values in portal form

    I have a portal Master/Detail Form. I want to set some of the detail block columns value to the value of a field in the master block.
    In the formattng option of the detail column, I tried setting default value to:
    p_session.get_value_as_varchar2(p_block_name=>'MASTER_BLOCK', p_attribute_name=>'A_CLASS_CD');
    and default value type to: function (I also tried expression). It compiles, but gives me an error when I ry running form. How can you set the default value (from the value of a differnt field)?

    HI,
    You can set the default value to value of a different field. The only way is to use javascript like onFocus.

  • HOW TO SET A ITEM DEFAULT VALUE  to today

    I have a item using select list and I like to set this item default value as

    HTMLDB failed recongnize the default value, or throw error Error ERR-9132 Error in PLSQL expression for item default code, ...". I have tried each of 3 avaialable Default Value Types
    Per http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=443287, it is used to be doable, but the default value type (sql) is no longer avaialble in HTMLDB 2.0
    I would appreaciate it very much if anyone has successfully done this before, either set to today or current month

    Ching - Did you try a PL/SQL Expression using to_char(sysdate,'YYYY-MM-DD')?
    There have been no changes to the item default types available in HTML DB. The thread you referenced is for Oracle Portal, a separate and unrelated product.

  • How to use P_SESSION.GET_VALUE_AS_VARCHAR2 in MDform item default Value

    I have a master detail form based on two tables. In the DETAIL_BLOCK section I have an item named 'APPROVAL_STATUS' based on the column of the same name in the underlying table. I have an unassociated textbox named CURR_APPROVSTAT in the detail form for which I would like to set it's default value to the current value of APPROVAL_STATUS when the master detail form is opened in %3D mode via a hyperlink.
    I have tried using the p_session.get_value_as_varchar2 in the default value field of the CURR_APPROVSTAT item, but it generates errors on run.
    EX:
    Item CURR_APPROVSTAT
    default value field
    p_session.get_value_as_varchar2(
    p_block_name => 'DETAIL_BLOCK',
    p_attribute_name => 'APPROVAL_STATUS')
    Default Value type:
    Function returns varchar2
    on run, it generates error that p_session must be declared (I get the same error if I use portal.p_session... also).
    default value field
    select p_session.get_value_as_varchar2(p_block_name => 'DETAIL_BLOCK', p_attribute_name => 'APPROVAL_STATUS')from dual
    Default Value type:
    SQL returns varchar2
    on run, it generates and error that a right parenthesis is missing.
    I have also tried using the following in the Additional PL/SQL - before displaying form:
    p_session.set_value
    (p_block_name => 'DETAIL_BLOCK'
    ,p_attribute_name => 'CURR_APPROVSTAT'
    ,p_value => p_session.get_value_as_varchar2(
    p_block_name => 'DETAIL_BLOCK',
    p_attribute_name => 'APPROVAL_STATUS')
    on run, this generates the error identifier 'P_SESSION.GET_VALUE_AS_VARCHAR2' must be declared
    My questions are:
    1) is it possible to use the p_session.get_value_as_varchar2 in the default value field?
    2) If yes, then what if the proper syntax
    3) If no, can I set this value when the MD form opens from the additional pl/sql triggers, and if so, what is the syntax?
    any assistance you can offer is greatly appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    ARM

    In my detail block I have 10 rows displaying that may or may not have data after querying. To set the default value in the detail block, you have to set the index value of p_session.set_value. Since I don't know how many rows are already populated, I'm setting the default value to all 10 rows. Is there a better approach?
    Here's my code example, which I've placed in the additional PL/SQL section before displaying the form...
    DECLARE
    l_district_id VARCHAR2(7);
    BEGIN
    l_district_id := p_session.get_value_as_varchar2
    (p_block_name => 'MASTER_BLOCK',
    p_attribute_name => 'A_DISTRICT_ID');
    FOR i in 1 .. 10 LOOP
    p_session.set_value
    (p_block_name => 'DETAIL_BLOCK',
    p_attribute_name => 'A_DISTRICT_ID',
    p_value => TO_CHAR(l_district_id), p_index => i);
    END LOOP;
    END;

    Sudha,
    For a default value type of PL/SQL Expression, you could create a function that accepts an input and returns a value. If the function (not a procedure) is named GET_REFNO, you would call it using an expression in the default value field like:
    get_refno(:P3_REFTYPE)
    For a default value type of PL/SQL Function Body, you could call your existing procedure with a default value like:declare
        l_value varchar2(32767);
    begin
        get_refno(:P3_REFTYPE, l_value);
        return l_value;
    end;Scott

  • Default value of combobox using dynamic LOV in Oracle Portal form

    We are trying to specify the deafult value of a combobox on a form that derives it options from a dynamic LOV. The option value is a number and the display is text.
    E.g.
    <Option value="1">Books
    <Option value="2">CDs
    We have tried various ways of setting the default option to be selected on the Combobox. First, we tried using a sql query to return a number from a table (sql query returns number -> in the default value type field). Next, we tried to use a constant number (default value: 2, default value type: constant). In neither case, did the Oracle Portal form pre-select our default choice in the drop-down list.
    Any suggestions? I browsed the other forum articles on this topic and noticed several folks believed it was a bug in Portal. We are using Portal version 3.0.9 (latest App Server for the Ebusiness Suite). Thanks in advance.

    You can manually add the select list (or for that matter anything else) to a wizard created form. If the select list is for an existing item, simply change the "Display As" setting from Text to a Select List based on the LOV you create. Any changes made will then be applied by the update process.

  • Oracle Portal master details default value set up.

    Hi All,
    Using Oracle Portal to create a master details form.
    I have tried to set up the details table foreign key. I used the master table primary key as a default value for the details table foreign key.
    Does anyone know what the correct syntax is when I fill in the Default Value field on the "Formatting and Validation Options for Detail Row" tab?
    Also related to this: What should I choose from the drop down menu for the "Default Value Type"?
    Best Regards.
    Liviu Minda & Paul Williams
    Cape Town City Council.

    Hi Liviu & Paul,
    NOTE: The following is applicable to Portal version 3.0.8 and above .
    Well, if you want that the Detail table Foreign key should get the value of The Mater Table Primary key, then you need not do anything like setting the Default value for the Foreign Key of the Detail section. It works like this :-
    Operation INSERT:
    When you are INSERTing a master record and the corresponding detail records, just fill up the master form and need not worry about the Foreign key(FK) in the Detail rows. Fill up the other columns for the detail rows and choose the appropriate action for each of the detail rows i.e. INSERT and click on the SAVE button. If the FK in the Detail have been left blank, then while inserting into the detail table, the Primary Key (PK) value of the master will be picked up and inserted . However, if you specify any value in the FK column of the Detail, then the specified value would override the PK value of the master.
    Generally, what ppl do is make the FK in the detail of type Hidden.. so users cannot tamper with the FK values.
    Hope this helps.
