Definitions on iOS 8

Hi,
I've installed iOS 8 on my iPhone 5s and tried to use the definitions on text and it doesn't recognise the word with the definition coming up blank.
I try to add dictionaries and it won't let me add or delete ddictionaries and just seems to identify words within the "Apple Dictionary" of that makes sense?
The dictionaries have an 'x' next to them but you can't delete them. I'm finding this a tad frustrating (I've tried going into the definitions>manage>download language but it doesn't pick it for me and won't allow me to delete other languages such as German, Dutch, Spanish).
Is anyone else suffering from this and can anyone advise how I can resolve this problem as it won't let me do anything.
Thanking you in advance

OK, it seems to have fixed itself? Woke-up this morning and the definitions work perfectly? Random but at least it works.

I have a 3rd generation iTouch with IOS 5.1 (won't update any higher) and a new iPad LTE with a definitely higher IOS.  I didn't plug the new one yet because I want to know...can I keep my apps, email, photos on both devices?  And also can I update my apps on the iPad without causing problems (some apps won't update on my iTouch because the IOS is not 6.0).  Thank you.

  • IPad no longer working with projector and HDMI splitter after iOS 6.0.1 update

I just installed iOS 6.0.1 this morning.  I use the iPad in my business tied into a projector via an HDMI splitter.
My projector was working fine, I installed the new iOS, and now I can't get the projector to recognize the iPad output.  Just giving me a "no source" message.
    Anyone have any ideas?

You can try these suggestions and see if any work for you. The first one is definitely an iOS 6 only suggestion.
Settings>Privacy>Location Services>System Services (swipe to the bottom of the page to find this)>Location Based iAds>Off.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try again.
Even though you are connected to the Internet, it might help if you reboot your router anyway. Unplug it for about 30 seconds and thenlug it in again.

  • Unable to connect to iTunes after iOS 6.0.1 update on iPad 3

After I updated the other day I can no longer get new apps or update my current apps.  I keep getting a message saying I cannot connect to iTunes. I have tried some solutions that I found (moving the date to 2013 & updating my banking info on iTunes) but nothing works.  I am connected to the Internet (I posted this on my iPad).  Any solutions out there or do I need to call apple?

  • IPad 3 very slow after updating to iOS 8

I Updated my iPad 3 to iOS 8 the day it was released and almost immediately after it finished updating I started having problems.
    1) The Wifi connection is incredibly slow on every device I update.
    2) The entire iPad 3 itself runs very slowly whether I am running apps or switching between (yes I have been shutting down programs when not using them as to conserve RAM but it still runs poorly)
I also did download 8.0.1 with no new issues but did also download and install 8.0.2
I just would like to know if there is anything I can do to get better performance back to my iPad.

No, this is definitely an iOS 8.3 bug, Allen. I have an iPad mini (original, 24/12 old) and an iPhone 5 (not S, 18/12 old). Updated both from 8.2 to 8.3. I keep them and the apps up to date and run a tight ship.
Since the update, the iPhone has been behaving normally.
However, starting immediately after the update, the iPad has been rebooting: when you plug it into the power and it goes to sleep, it reboots itself. This NEVER ONCE happened before the 8.3 update -- and I think I started with this iPad on iOS5 or at least 6, with all the updates inbetween. If you want to use it again shortly after plugging it in, you have to wait about five-ten minutes (as other have reported).  So far, it has always rebooted successfully. But you do have to put in your passcode in response to "you have to enter your passcode upon rebooting" message; and tell it to trust your current computer connect once again.
It just now rebooted itself once again when plugged into the computer USB port, while in the middle of a sync (the screen went to sleep). Not happy about that; potential to damage data.
I confirm: this NEVER happened before 8.3, and it now reliably happens EVERY TIME I plug the iPad into power and it goes to sleep. I have three power sources (computer USB, individual Apple charger, aftermarket reserve battery charter) and it happens with all of them.
As far as I can tell, it only reboots itself once per charger-plugin, and doesn't do so again until you unplug it and plug it back in again (somewhat confident, but not 100% sure, of that).
Hope that helps. The bug needs squashing, and soon.

  • IPad keeps rebooting itself after updating to iOS 8.3

Just updated an iPad 3 to iOS 8.3 from iOS 8.2 .  Update took a while to install (over 20 minutes) and then the Apple logo appeared for a bit then the screen went black for about 10  minutes.  The device was fine for a while and then started rebooting itself, hung on the Apple logo for about 10 minutes and now suddenly it came back.  All apps were up to date.  The device had not had any issues prior to the update.  Has anyone else had this issue?
    Thanks!

  • Pioneer AVR iControlAV5 app error B27102 with iOS 8.1.3

Since upgrading to iOS 8.1.3, the app iControlAV5 (or iControlAV2013) has not been able to connect to my Pionner reciever.  Error code B27102 displays.
I've never had a single problem with this in the past prior to 8.1.3.   This is definitely an iOS problem ---- Apple please fix this asap!!!

don't believe that apple have access to pioneers source code so your issue will likely last until pioneer release an updated version of the app
you can check app store if they have done so already

  • Where is the iOS 5 upgrade? (Oct 12th)

ok so I'm relatively new to the apple device world-- and I love my ipad 2-- but I was told the iOS 5 upgrade would be available today via iTunes.  I updated to iTunes 10.5 already but the only upgrade I got this morning was 4.3.5, which is definitely not iOS 5.
So what is the trick???  I check for the upgrade a few times but it says it's completely up-to-date.  Is Apple upgrading devices in a phased approach, making my update not yet available, or is Apple just overwhelmed with the update?  Was hoping to have my new iOS before I trudged out the door
    Thanks for the help!

  • Safari unable to load page after iPad wakes from sleep

I have my WiFi iPad running 4.2.1. Whenever the iPad goes to sleep, when I wake it to access Safari, Safari cannot load a page or reload a page. It says the page cannot be accessed and times out. I always have to go to settings and turn the wifi off and back on. Is there some way to resolve this issue with iPad's Safari?

Then what do you want from us? We're all users like you. By the way, mine works fine.
LikeSpez: if you read Philly's response to Carol's post you should note that the renew lease solution is a) faster to execute, b) addresses the bug more directly and c) eliminates several unnecessary steps.
We are all seeing the same issue on a variety of routers with the common denominator being the iPad on 4.2.1. My 3GS iPhone running on 4.1 has never needed a renew lease while employing the exact same hnetworks that the iPad is using.
We need an app to do renew lease. We could just tap it instead of wading through the setup screens.

  • Why won't iTunes 11 "stop" one song and then "play" what I've selected (OS 10.6) ?

    (1) I can't get iTunes to play songs I select (in Playlist view) from the menu at the top.  I used to be able to switch from one playlist or song to another by clicking the Play button at the top. Now I can only play a song I want in Playlist view by double-clicking it.  Why don't the controls at the top do what they used to do?
    (2) When I switch to the Mini-Player, if I try to forward to the next song in the playlist, iTunes selects something from a completely different playlist, apparently at random. This seems to be because in Controls/Shuffle, "Shuffle" switches itself to "On."  Can't I forward to the next selection in the Miniplayer any more?  And why is Shuffle turning itself on?  (I HATE Shuffle. Have you ever thought you were going to the next song in your "Game of Thrones" playlist and gotten a Russian gypsy song instead?)
    (3) Can anyone tell me where to find the tutorials for this $&#*^%(^*$!* version of iTunes?
Humble thanks for any help out there.

I too can confirm this is a problem and it is too bad becasue play counts are important to me. I track my listening habits with them. iOS 7 on 4S is not updating the play counts or time or anything about the music once played on the phone. I certain it is not an iTiunes problem becasue checking the music on the phone itself show it has no new information to synch on it. it isall the same as when I copied the somgs over. It is definitely an iOS 7 bug. Apple, if you see this, please fix ASAP!

  • HT1688 Is anyone having issues with iOS7 Siri? (iPhone 5s)

On multiple occasions during the day I'll ask Siri to remind me....  With a long pause she'll say "I'm really sorry but I can't take your request right now please try again later.  Then I'll try right after and she'll work.  Very frustrating.  iOS6 worked like a charm.  This happens on wireless and LTE networks.

Joe, I've been using Siri since it was an app on my iPhone 3G. I've had my 5 since a week after it was introduced. While on iOS 5.01, every now and then I would get a single message. However, since moving to iOS 7 I get multiple rejections in a row... and often. In the picture above you can see the signal strength is fine. This also happens when I'm 10 feet from my WiFi router at home too. This is an iOS problem.
Based on the number of messages I got from Siri in the picture above you can see that my request was rejected 5 times before I gave up and posted that message on this site.
(I think) I have found that if you get her attention first, it reduces the number of rejections. For example, I'll push the button and say "Siri?". Siri answers, "Yes? How may I help you?". Then I ask my question. This is NOT ideal. It's also quite embarassing trying to find an answer at a party and people see the rejection. Not good publicity for the iPhone.
Again, This is definitely an iOS issue and it NEEDS to be fixed!

  • 100% to 65% Battery Level Decrease in Two Hours

My question is: "Is anyone else seeing rapid battery level drop with iPhone since upgrading to IOS 8?"
Since upgrading to IOS 8 on Wednesday the 17th, I have experienced RAPID battery level drop between charges.  I am now having to charge my iPhone 5s 32 GB half way through the morning, after lunch and when I get home.  If it weren't for my Mophie Jet Pack, a car charger and a charger at my desk, I wouldn't make it through the day.  Believe me, I have read every battery conservation tip out there. I have turned so many features/functions off that I'm really starting to wonder if IOS 8 is worth it for the iPhone 5S and below.  If I weren't faced with a daunting downgrade process, I would do it.  At least I used to be able to make it to 7 PM on IOS 7 before I put the phone on a charger or flipped on the Jet Pack.
Using the new Battery Usage report under Settings > General > Usage > Battery Usage   I see that Calendar and Notes apps have taken the lion share of the battery charge over the past 24 hours, and there is a notation stating that the usage was "Low Signal" which I assume means that the phone was trying to do its thing with a poor cell phone signal.  At work, however, I am completely on wi-fi and not cell.  So this isn't very helpful.
On the other hand, I have an iPad Mini with Retina and an iPad 3rd Gen that have been upgraded.  Neither of them have had any problems.  In fact the iPad 3rd Gen still has 92% charge after sitting in my backpack all weekend long (since being charged Friday morning).  So what I am seeing only seems to affect my iPhone.
I do remember similar issues with the IOS 7 initial upgrade, which were resolved with subsequent patches/upgrades.

Thanks Lawrence.  We use CommonTime mSuite to integrate our Lotus Notes with iPhone's Calendar, Contacts and email using the Exchange iPhone connector, and I am one of the administrators for mSuite.  I have deleted and re-added the Exchange account on my 5s running IOS 8 multiple times, and have done the same on an iPad Gen 3 and an iPad Mini.  All with the same results.  (The results are that email comes down, but calendar and contacts do not, and email will reload every so often.)  I've deleted the account on the mNotes server a couple of times as well, to no avail.  I have an old iPhone 4 still running IOS 7.1.2, and setting the exchange account up on it, immediately everything came down successfully from Lotus Notes onto the old iPhone.  This is definitely an IOS 8/CommonTime issue, and CommonTime has acknowledged that there is a problem, though they have as yet no fix.  The one good thing to come of this is I now know what was killing my battery. After 7 hours of use last night (regular use on Facebook and Feedly) my battery had only gone down to 83%. Other of our 46 users who have upgraded to IOS 8 have the same problem as I.

  • SHA-2 Algorithm Support

We are building a Windows PKI based upon SHA-2 algorithms. I can't find definitively whether iPads (and iPhones) will support certificates signed by SHA-256. We'd need the iPads to be able to verify and validate the ceritifate chain, and also be able to use a certificate based upon SHA-256 for authentication purposes (wireless networks).

I can't say definitively that iOS will support custom certificates with SHA-256 encryption, but iOS does include a certificate with SHA-256 encryption as part of the base set:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3580
so it would seen possible, at least. You can find some information on certificates in the Enterprise Deployment Guide:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/Enterprise_DeploymentGuide.pdf
    Hope this helps.

  • Blank screens delete after reboot

With my previous iPhones and iOS, I always kept my first screen empty so I could see my picture.  Once I upgraded to iOS 5, I could do the same thing, but once I rebooted my phone (some call powercycle), the page is removed.  Any help?

Same here.  Really bums me out too.  I posted at TiPb.com and have been told it's definitely an iOS 5 thing.  I hope they change it.

  • Bug: Calendar Reminders

I just received my phone and am very frustrated.  An earlier post questions the inability to set reminders for any chosen time period.  It appears you are limited to the times in the phones drop down list.  My problem is I am syncing with my Outlook calendar.  Outlook allows you to set a reminder for any time period.  You can enter any number of hours or any number of days or weeks for a reminder.  When I synced my phone yesterday, my Outlook reminders were changed/overwritten by the phone!  It appears the phone having limited options for reminders overwrote the Outlook data that didn't fit into its selections.  In addition, the phone distinguishes between timed appointments and all day appointments and has different available reminders for each.  Outlook doesn't really make a distinction.  In the end, it seems clear the phone and Outlook do not have the same capability and are therefore not compatible.  Worse yet the phone "solved" this issue by over-writing my Outlook data.

It's definitely the iOS Calendar app (and every other calendar app that uses the same database) in my case. I'm not even aware of an official Google Calendar app Do you maybe have your Google calendar setup differently (no CalDAV for instance)?
Syncing the exact same calendar and appointments on Android and Windows Phone do give me an alert the day before the repeated all-day event. On my iPhone I won't get an alert, because I've created the event last year (or in same cases years ago), so the iPhone shows the alert time the day before I've created the event. For instance yesterday I expected an alert for an repeated all-day event I've created over one year ago, but the iPhone didn't alert me and in the calendar app it shows the incorrect alert date (tuesday 29th of may, while it should be wednesday 29th of may). In all future events it keeps showing the alert on tuesday 29th of may (which refers to tuesday 29th of may 2012). On my Galaxy Nexus and Lumia 920 the notification or reminder for that event was shown without a problem.
