Error : SimpleApplet.jsp Line 8: Unknown jsp: action "plugin"

Hi!
I am a novice in JSP arena.. while experimenting with a simple jsp code, i came across this Error.
:SimpleApplet.jsp Line 8: Unknown jsp: action "plugin"
The code is as :
<html>
<head><title></title></head>
<body>
<center>
Interactive Calculator
<jsp:plugin code="AdderApplet.class" width="200" height="250">
</jsp:plugin>
</center>
</body>
</html>
Can anybody help me understand what is going wrong??
Thanx

Are you able to use some more simple jsp construct like <jsp:useBean> just to test if anything jsp like is working? Which jsp compiler/container do you use?

  • RE: [iPlanet-JATO] Parse error in JSP parser in IAS6

    Hi Todd,
    removing the defaultValue="" attribute works.
    I have not got around to testing the SP3.
    BTW. The reason the default value tag was added was to stop Null pointer
    exceptions being thrown in the
    HrefTag.beginDisplay().
    buffer.append("?")
    .append(field.getQualifiedName()) // "FooHref"
    .append("=")
    .append(URLEncoder.encode(value.toString())); // "/foo"
    If you don't explicitly add a defaultValue="" to the jsp HREF tag ,
    HrefTag.getDefaultValue() returns null.
    Our hack was to add the following in HrefTag.java.
    if (value==null)
    value=getDefaultValue();
    //===========================
    //IP6 ADDED THE FOLLOWING LINE
    value = (value== null? "":value);
    //============================
    Is that pheasible work-around ? This eliminates the need to add
    defaultValue="" to all HREF tags.
    Also, I might as well point another behavior that we encountered with HREFS.
    In ND, if a HREF's display Field was bound to a column in DataObject and the
    particular record had no value, no URL would be rendered on the page.
    The HTML would look something like this( from memory ):
    <A
    HREF="../AppName/PgMsgMain.hrfSubject_onWebEvent(hrfSubject).994226335140? +
    ND URL STUFF"></A>
    In JATO by default a url get displayed with "null" as the link. ie.
    <a href="../AppName/PgMsgMain?PgMsgMain.hrfSubject= + URL STUFF">null</a>
    Our hack was modify the HrefTag.doEndTag method to not append "null" to the
    buffer.
    if (displayed)
    buffer.append(getBodyContent().getString().equals("null")? "":
    getBodyContent().getString()))
    // IP6 HACK buffer.append(getBodyContent().getString())
    .append("</a>");
    writeOutput(fireEndDisplayEvent(buffer.toString()));
    Is there a better way to do this?
    thanks

    Hey Kostas--
    I personally haven't seen this kind of error. Have you tried simplifying
    the expression inside the href tag? For example:
    <% Object foo =
    viewBean.getRptAssignmentMatch().getvwAssignmentMatchModel().getValue(
    vwAssignmentMatchModel.FIELD_ASSIGNMENT_ASSIGNMENT_ID);
    %>
    <jato:href name="hrefASSIGNMENT_ASSIGNMENT_ID" fireDisplayEvents="true">
    <%= foo %>
    </jato:href>
    Also, is there a different version you could upgrade to? iAS SP3 includes
    the Jasper compiler from Tomcat, which should behave quite differently.

    Uh, those aren't runtime errors, but just compilation errors. Googling on the error message can give a lot of results.
    Learn how to write Java properly. It would also help a lot if you put all the Java logic in Java classes instead of JSPs.

  • Error on jsp page (but works great on my desktop)

    Hi guys,
    Here is a weird thing that happened (it's always weird :-) ).
    I built a simple application j2ee) which runs perfectly on my desktop. When I copied the webapp folder (Test) under the tomcat/webapps folder to my laptop (same directory) I get the error message below.
    I have the same tomcat and same configuration.
    Any idea???
    Thanks for any help

    Backing up a moment, is there a particular reason that you're using the JDBC-ODBC bridge rather than using the Oracle JDBC driver?
    Have you taken a look at the JSP sample code available on OTN? I would start by making sure you can run that.

  • Error while accessing OIM UI - OracleJSP error: oracle.jsp.parse.JspParseException

    We have 3 nodes of OIM servers in our clustered production environment. While accessing OIM server on first node, following error is coming in the browser window -
    OracleJSP error: oracle.jsp.parse.JspParseException:
    /oracle/iam/ui/main/signin.jspx: Line # 5, &amp;amp;amp;lt;af:document id="d1" initialFocusId="pt1:_pt_it1" theme="light" title="#{uiBundle['IDENTITY_SELF_SERVICE_TITLE']}"&amp;amp;amp;gt;
    Error: Encountered deferred syntax #{ in template text. If intended as a literal, escape it or set directive deferredSyntaxAllowedAsLiteral
    The OIM UI is accessible on the other 2 nodes. There are no changes made in the environment. I have also attached the OIM diagnostic logs for your analysis.
    Please let us know the steps to resolve this issue in production environment.

    No..
    I have followed the way to add JSF libray,
    1)Right click the projet->project properties->javadoc->JSP taglibraries
    2)Inside the Distributed Library i have selected the JSTL core 1.2 and click on add.
    3) Then a new dialogue box of Choose tablibraries came.inside that only struts bean,struts Html etc are seeing.
    What i need to select?..Do i am following the right way?

  • Getting error in JSP at compile time:

    Hello,
    I am getting this error in JSP at compile time, have no idea whatd going wrong here..!! Everything in the code looks good.
    Please help..!! The error is:
    Error 500: Unable to compile class for JSP /opt/WebSphere/AppServer/temp/jasi80corpgeNode/HRAppServer/Billinginterface/BillingInterfaceWEB.war/_select_5F_course.java:188: Type expected. } catch (Throwable t) { ^ 1 error

    Everything looks good, but then you can never spot your own mistakes :-)
    There are a couple of things.
    1 - curly brackets in scriptlets. Make sure they are all opened and closed correctly.
    2 - Custom tags (JSTL and the like) need to be closed. If it is a simple tag, have you forgotten the slash before the closing angle bracket? ie is it <c:out value="hello"> when it should be <c:out value="hello"/>
    Take a look at the generated java code at /opt/WebSphere/AppServer/temp/jasi80corpgeNode/HRAppServer/Billinginterface/BillingInterfaceWEB.war/_select_5F_course.java, line 188
    See if you can make any sense out of the java file generated from the jsp
    If you want any more specific help than this, please post some jsp code :-)
    If you don't want to do that, I would recommend commenting all the code out with <%-- --%>
    get it to compile, and then uncomment a bit at a time
    Good luck,

  • Java class files not found error in jsp sub-directories

    Hello:
    I have a web-application that is setup in the following way:
    index.jsp
    test\index1.jsp
    WEB-INF\classes\test.class
    Both jsp pages index.jsp and index1.jsp uses the test.class in the WEB-INF\classes directory.
    The index.jsp page works fine.
    The test\index1.jsp gives me a "cannot resolve symbol" error. Error shown below:
    [jsp src:line #:19]
    cannot resolve symbol symbol : class test location: class test.index1 test ts = new test("hello");
    Any help at all is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Benny

    Hello Qiang:
    Thanks a lot for replying, and sorry for the delay in replying back to you. I have been searching the forums for a while and have yet to find anyone else with a similar problem. And yes, it is kinda wierd.
    But, anyways, I checked the java version from the windows command line as follows and it is using version 1.4.2:
    java -version
    java version "1.4.2_04"
    Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_04-b05)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_04-b05, mixed mode)
    Also, here are the contents of my test.class file:
    public class test
    private String t = null;
    public test(String t1)
    setTest(t1);
    public void setTest(String t1)
         t = t1;
    public String getTest()
         return t;
    Here are the contents of my index.jsp file:
    <b> hello </b>
    <%
    String test_str = null;
    test ts = new test("Hello from the main jsp directory");
    test_str = ts.getTest();
    %>
    <b> test_str is: </b> <%=test_str%>
    Click here to test your jsp index1.jsp file in the test sub-directory
    Here are the results from this jsp page:
    hello
    test_str is: Hello from the main jsp directory
    Click here to test your jsp index1.jsp file in the test sub-directory
    Here are the contents from the test/index1.jsp file:
    <b> hello from test sub-directory </b>
    <%
    String test_str = null;
    test ts = new test("Hello from the jsp test sub-directory");
    test_str = ts.getTest();
    %>
    <b> test_str is: </b> <%=test_str%>
    And here is what happens when I try to go to the test/index1.jsp page:
    Request URI:/benny_test/test/index1.jsp
    Exception:
    OracleJSP:oracle.jsp.provider.JspCompileException:
    Errors compiling:C:\OC4J\j2ee\home\application-deployments\default\benny_test\persistence\_pages\_test\_index1.java
    Line #     Error

         [jsp src:line #:5]
    cannot resolve symbol symbol : class test location: class test.index1 test ts = new test("Hello from the jsp test sub-directory");
    47
         [jsp src:line #:5]
    cannot resolve symbol symbol : class test location: class test.index1 test ts = new test("Hello from the jsp test sub-directory");
    I will try putting it in a package like you said and see if that helps. Also, do you see a similar issue in your environment.
    Anyways, thanks for all your help. Hope to hear from you soon.
    Thanks,
    Benny

    Please help, I cannot figure out how to fix this. The JSP does not have any compilation error what so ever.
    Thanks,
    Arun.

    The softlink was created in UNIX environment like
    $> ln -s flkIbeCZzdMessages.jsp $WEB_DIR/ibeCZzdMessages.jsp
    the file is called from another jsp using the <jsp:forward> tag like
    <jsp:forward page="ibeCZzdMessages.jsp" />
    Does it matter what the file name is and what the link name is for creation of the JSP Servlet ?
    I tried renaming the file to ibeCZzdMessages.jsp and created a softlink by the same name in the Web Directory and it worked, but I want to know what is the reason for the error ?
    Thanks.

    2)
    When i type http://localhost:8080/cdlist/cd_list.jsp at the IE address to view the file , the following error came out
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: This absolute uri (http://jakarta.apache.org/taglibs/xtags-1.0) cannot be resolved in either web.xml or the jar files deployed with this application
    Can anyone please explain what it means and is there any ways to solve this error. Thankyou very much....

    Sorry but there seems to have another problem, while i run the file using tomcat this error came out:

    I was wondering, will tomcat javac the java file itself or do i need to javac it myself and put it in the root folder??? In this case i have javac the java file and i put the class file in root folder together with other files to run it, but there seems to still have errors while i try to run it. Pls help.

  • Error 404, JSP file not found

    Hello all
    I am using tomcat on solaris. I have copied my war file under the webapps folder. When I start the tomcat services, it shows the messages for adding the context path for that war file, it also creates a folder for it under webapps but fails to show me any of the jsp pages. I can view all the html and gif files, but none of the jsps (gives the error - 404). If I rename my war file, and then start tomcat services, it works well. I don't want to rename my war file. Pls help!!
    For further details - I have checked my server.xml file, and it is correct. There was an old version of the same folder under webapps, which I got rid off, but seems that somewhere it is still caching it.
    In my server.xml file, if I do
    <Context path="/first"
    docBase="webapps/first"
    crossContext="false"
    debug="0"
    reloadable="true" >
    </Context>
    IT FAILS !! but if I just change the <Context path="/first1" , it works and does not give any error for jsp page. There isn't any contect path named "first" in my server.xml file.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Anusha

    Actually, I don't know how to create a subdirectory under webapps directory. When I tried to add a subdirectory calle myapp (.../webapps/myapp), I got "The requested URL /application/ was not found on this server" error message. Do I need to modify server.xml or web.xml in conf directory?
    Thanks in advance!
