Delay unloading Acrobat dlls when using Acrobat 9

In our Java desktop application, we use Acrobat 9 to display a pdf file.
This pdf is opened in another window. When the window is closed the acrobat dlls loaded are expected to close by itself so that the corresponding javaw process can close.
The javaw process is not closing since the acrobat dlls are NOT closed automatically. It was found the dlls are unloaded after around 30 second.
When tried with Acrobat 8 it worked perfectly.
Has anyone come across the dll unload issue with Acrobat 9?
Can you suggest a solution?

Wrap the Adobe functionality in an executable.
Manage that from your main java app via Runtime.exec/ProcessBuilder.
Provide a communication interface so the two can interact.
Your main app can exit at any time. The secondary app will exit after the delay without being visible to the users.

  • Missing export kernel32.dll when using cvi 9.0 on win 64

    Hi,
I just have a new computer (windows 7 64 bits) : PC 1 for short.
My old computer was a windows xp 32 bits : PC 2.
I compile my programs with CVI 9.0.
    When I compile a program with PC 1 :
    - the install works on PC 1 & PC 2
    - the prog installed works on PC 1
    - the prog installed doesn't work on PC 2 : Missing export ...... from 'KERNEL32.DLL'
    Somebody has an idea?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
if your program uses some functions from Windows SDK included in kernel32.dll, the program really depends on this library.
The problem is that for this reason CVI includes kernel32.dll when you build a distribution kit (on the target PCs you should find a copy of kernel32.dll in a subfolder of the one where you installed your application).
The problem is that CVI takes this dll from your development PC (Win 7) and your target PC (XP) can't work with this dll. Win XP has its own copy of kernel32.dll, but MS Windows Operating Systems load dlls from application folder before than from system folder.
And so, simply remove the kernel32.dll dependency and rebuild the distribution kit.
This is a general behavior of CVI and can bring to several problems. I've already reported this to NI, because Operating System dlls must not be included in a distribution kit. If the target OS lacks of some core dll, this is a severe problem, and it's not a situation that CVI can fix simply using some local copies of these dlls.

    Hi,
When using narrow down the object to home interface after performing lookup(), it gives error for
'ioser12.dll' not found. If doing 'SomeHome someHome = (SomeHome)obj;' it's working fine.

Remove the j2ee.jar from your classpath and narrow will work.
The correct version is in weblogicaux.jar.

  • Acrobat crashes when using PDPageRemoveAnnot with a selected annotation

    Hey,
Im using following function to remove all annotations on a page:
    void removeAnnotsOnPage(PDPage pdPage){
        int annotLen = PDPageGetNumAnnots(pdPage);
        for (int i = annotLen -1; i >= 0; i--){
            PDPageRemoveAnnot(pdPage, i);
this does not work when the corresponding annotation is selected.
If the annotation is selected, it causes acrobat to crash.
Can anybody help me on this?
    thank you in advance,

    Hi Irosenth,
While I'm struggling with another Acrobat Pro (in regards to ntdll.dll crash in this forum) issue - could you tell us how to file that formal report with your developer staff?
I've tried today to clarify that with Adobe Online Chat representative in Customer Support portal area and after I've provided him with our Acrobat Pro 9 serial number his response was: "since this is a Volume Licensing serial number and it comes pre registered, you'll have to contact our Technical Support team for further assistance"
But Adobe Technical Support links really sucks on Adobe sites, cause no one allows me to communicate via email and each one tells to call someone via a phone.
So, what are my as developer and my organization as Adobe customer for Adobe Acrobat Pro technical support options? Do we need to buy anything else in addition to buying Volume License to register regular bugs and track them properly?
I'd really appreciate if you could brign some light to this.

  • Adobe Acrobat aborts when using LiveCycle Designer PDF Preview tab.

Whenever I try to use the PDF preview tab in LiveCycle Designer, Adobe Acrobat aborts.  I get the notice that "Adobe Acrobat 8.1 has encoutered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.  Yadda, yadda, yadda,....." .
    The error signature is:

Please increase your Buffer memeory for appalications.
Before you go for a preview. try to kill the exisitign process of adobe reader.
We need to see hte size of the XDP being generated.
If it is over 20 0r 30 MB, we may need to bring it down to 2 - 4 MB.
Again if the problem still persists, Re install the acrobat and try.
Lastly, check if the same problem happens when you use a adobe reader 8.1.3 or 9.4 (stable versions).

  • When using Acrobat X Pro, error message "You don't have permission to save to this location"

Hi, first came across this problem here...
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/797819
But there was no solution offered except to disable some security settings. As this issue was in feb last year, i am wondering if Adobe has the solution as i recently encountered the same problem on Acrobat X Pro.
    Please advise.

I had this problem with Adobe Acrobat X on my Windows 7 system using IE9.  (Note that I did not receive this error in Firefox as others have also reported in other forum posts.)  I spoke with a guy in Adobe support who recommended this solution...
Click on Start, then "Printers & Devices".
Right click on the Adobe PDF printer icon and select "Printing Preferences".
If it's not displayed already click on the "Adobe PDF Settings" tab.
Uncheck the box that says, "Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts".
Click "Apply", then "OK" and close all prior windows
    That's it!
Finally, when you install Acrobat it should also install an Adobe Add-On in Internet Explorer.  It adds a two buttons ("Convert" and "Select") to the IE toolbar area.  The Adobe tech recommended using the "Convert" button rather than just printing to a PDF as it "prints more accurately".  Note that selecting the drop down arrow you can choose other options like, "Convert Web Page and E-mail".
    I hope this helps others.

  • Acrobat crashes when using the Instance Manager

I am using Designer 7.0/Acrobat 7.0.1 on Win XP SP 2 (and tested on two other machines with the same config), and also Mac OS X 10.3.9 with Acrobat 7.0.1.
The crash occurs when my script tries to hide a subform, but only when the script is called from a Drop-Down List. I have mocked up a brand new PDF and the problem is still there:
    http://members.optusnet.com.au/machelp/crash.pdf
If you click the Show/Hide Subform buttons it works fine. If you choose an item from the List Box it shows the subform correctly, and then choose one of the 'Other Mag' items and it hides the subform correctly. Do the same process with the Drop-Down List and it is guaranteed to crash when you choose an 'Other Mag' item (which should hide the subform). The Mac has no problem with crashing at all!
The crash message (that appears after the 'Send feedback to Microsoft' message is 'The instruction at "0x2d864aa2" referenced memory at "0x00000008". The memory could not be "read". Click on "OK" to terminate the program.' This exact error happens on all PC's that I tested on, in Acrobat Pro or Reader.
Can someone please help me identify if this is a bug in Acrobat or is there something I'm not doing right?
    Many thanks in advance, Mike.
    PS. Also Designer crashes
    i a lot
when laying out forms. Does this happen to anyone else?

I would send this to Adobe Support.

  • Otlook 2007 unexpectedly quits when using Acrobat 8.1 Automatic Archival

I can't seem to use Auto Archival or Convert to Adobe PDF functions in Office Outlook 2007. After processing a few emails, Outlook unexpectedly quits. Any thought about it? Thanks.

If you are having problems creating a PDF, there are two steps you should do FIRST
Go to the appropriate vendor web site and apply all updates to the program you are using (several recent messages have concerned problems with MS Office conversion, with the response that different versions of Office have different BUGS that must be fixed by a download from Microsoft - and MS Office products are not the only ones which may, from time to time, need to be updated to work properly)
Go to the Acrobat update page and apply the updates for your version of Acrobat
IN NUMBER ORDER (updates are not cumulative so, using version 8 as an example, you must apply 8.1.0 before the 8.1.1 update)

  • How do I fix the Database Organizer Error when using Acrobat 9 Pro on desktop PC with Windows 8.1 and 64-bit OS?

After loading Acrobat 9 Pro on my desktop PC (Windows 8.1; 64-bit OS), opening and closing a previously saved pdf file, I constantly get a message pop-up that indicates a "database organizer" error.
    How do I fix this?
I have read multiple responses at various forums and they do not seem to apply, or have not worked for others, with regard to the details of my version of Acrobat and Windows OS.
I'm beginning to think that the only solution is to purchase the latest version of Acrobat Pro and install it on my PC, which, of course, I would prefer not to do, unless this is my only viable option.
Can this problem, specific to my version of Acrobat and Windows OS, be fixed or is the simple answer:  purchase the latest version of Acrobat Pro, because there is no fix for my version of Acrobat/Windows OS?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi, I have a problem with hyperlinks when using Acrobat 5.0, can anyone help?

In the past, the hyperlinks have worked OK but I'm wondering if the more recent versions of the Readers will not recognise them. I am making
PDFs from Word 2003. The hyperlinks work OK in Word - just not in the PDF. Hope someone can help.

Thanks for that. I also had someone check it with V.8 and that didn't seem to work either..I can't seem to load an older version of the reader to test.
    Thanks for your response.

However when I tried to run program, the notice like this appeared (I attached screenshot below) So I wonder whether the error didn't come from the conflict of version of SKD problem. In addition, I'm using window xp, is it suitable for this project?
Please let me know if any clarification is needed of my issue.

  • What are analogous shared libraries that can be called using a call library function to user32.dll and lvtoolbox.dll when using Linux and Mac?

I am wondering if anyone is familiar with how to get similar information with a LV program using a Linux shared library as well as the corrolate Mac library to the Windows user32.dll and lvtoolbox.dll.  I specifically am trying to get system metrics such as screen resolution information and cursor information as well as being able to set mouse position.   I am trying to convert a LV Windows program to these other operating systems and I am unfamiliar with these platforms.
Thanks for your time - I really appreciate it.

There is no simple answer to that. On Linux you will likely have to call into X Server, which would be a pain to do, due to various versions and implementations of that. On the Mac there would be the difficulty that you can't call into the native ObjectiveC API but would need to find a Carbon API or something like that to do what you want.
If you seriously want to do something like this for multiplatform, you should bite the bullet and start coding an intermediate shared library in C. This library would export a LabVIEW friendly C API and access whatever system API you need to have for the particular functions. But multiplatform programming on this level is a pain in the ass, no matter what.
