Delete Template in Word for Mac

How do I delete a template in Word for Mac 2011?

Hello
This forum is for troubleshooting Apple Software Update for Windows, a software package for Windows designed to update Apple products that run on Windows, and not related to Microsoft Office or your question in any way. If you have issues or questions about Office, it's probably best you post Office related questions on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products.

  • Templates in Word for Mac 2011

I'm still relatively new to the Apple Mac world, having been a PC/Windows user for many years previously.
In Word, I have created several personal templates but now I want to amend or even delete some of them.
With Word open, I can load the template, then make the changes.  But when I try to save the file as a template, it says "a file with this name already exists" without offering the option to overwrite the earlier version (which you can do in Windows).
I've hunted high and low to try to find where the Mac stores the templates so that, maybe, I can do amendments and deletions there - but I still don't even know where Mac stores these files.
I posted a similar question over a week ago on the normally very responsive and helpful MS Office forums, but not had a response (probably because they're all Windows users).
Any ideas would be gratefully received!

I would recommend posting again in the Office for Mac Product Forums if no one is able to answer on this forum.
BTW when posting please include critical information such as what version of OS X you are using. You can update your profile by clicking Your Stuff in the upper right, then selecting Profile and completing the pertinent infomation. Without a complete profile you are making getting help more difficult for those trying to help you. Please include where you are located, that could be useful.

  • I'm using Word for Mac. Though there are various instructions on the Internet for modifying the templates, none make sense to me. They instruct to do something I can't follow. I change a template but can't save it to the template folder.

    What the ****.
OK, I try to change a template using Word for Mac version 14.3.4 2011 edition.
I make a change to the template but am unable to save the darned thing to the template folder; it asks for a file name like it's a new document. I want to change the blasted template but if I can't save it as a modified template, I've accomplished nothing.
    Does anyone have a solution?
    Thanks

  • Why can't I delete or rename files in Word for Mac and other Office programs?

When I try to delete or rename an Office for Mac file, I can't.  How do I delete/rename Word for Mac and other Office for Mac files?

Had this problem for quite a while but found a work-a-round. I click anywhere in the text I want to delete and insert any character. I am then able to block and delete any text I want to. It's been working great.

  • I have Word for Mac and Pages.  I can't find a "to do list" template in either.

I have Word for Mac and Pages.  I'm looking for a "to do list" template.  I don't really want to make one.

My apologies. Yesterday that link worked fine in Chrome under Lion, today
it crashed Safari and Lion. Here is another link to try (non microsoft) which
just worked in Chrome and Safari: http://www.printabletodolist.com/
Sorry for the first link - don't know what happened. I did get a warning
that it was an untrusted site in Chrome, but warning flashed up and went
away - maybe Microsoft is/was under attack.

  • Word for Mac. Duplicate/Delete Selection from Thumbnails

I love my Pages, but the people who are using the documents I create are Word only. How can I duplicate and delete Selections from the Thumbnail Sidebar in Word for Mac? And how can they do the same thing in regular Word on their PC?

OK, well, a quick web search turned up this:
    http://mac.microsoft.com/help/office/12/en-us/word/item/f37a450f-f847-489e-b0da- b69df48cd740
    That should help.
For future questions, you should generally ask in the most appropriate hardware or Mac OS X forum. You'll be more likely to get help that way. This forum is for questions about the Communities themselves.

  • Copy and paste text from Word for Mac to Mail exasperating!

I'm so exasperated!! I would be grateful for some help.  I have a carefully worded template letter in Word for Mac.  I copied and pasted it into Mail and loads of extra lines are put in that I cannot delete! So I painstakingly copy and paste each line.  I still have to faff about deleting extra lines that magically appear, then press shift+enter to go to next line without having a line space.  It has messed up font size as well.  Surely it should be straightforward to copy and paste simple text from one program to another!  Is there something I should know or do I just have to type everything out afresh each time - ridiculous in this so called easy technology that saves work ha ha.

  • Virus with word for mac

i seem to have a virus with word for mac.  does anyone have a recommendation as to an anti-virus program

ClamXAV will locate the infected Word files, but it won't clean them.
Note that with Word viruses, you may have to delete your current normal.dot template (in Documents/Microsoft User Data), relaunch Word to recreate a new one; then lock it (highlight, click cmd+i, and click Locked) to prevent further infection.

  • Hiding icons in the Dock and 'Word for Mac'

Hi, I'm new to macs and I'm struggling a little with some of the simpler tasks! I've put Word for Mac Student Edition on my Macbook but can you tell me how I can delete a word document once I've created it? I can't seem to find 'delete.' Also, can somebody help with hiding some of the icons in the dock. I've got loads and I know I won't use many of them.
    Thanks for your help!
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thanks for your quick reply! I don't have a right or left click on my Macbook just the mousepad and one bar that runs across the bottom of the pad, It makes no difference if I press the left or right hand side of it, it just keeps initialising the applications.
I've tried dragging the document to the trash can but that won't work either! Should I be pressing a command key before hand?
Sorry, I must have been more entrenched in windows-working than I thought....

  • Windows compatibility; Delete key, view, Office for Mac and  Hassels

    Dear Friends
I liked the style of the Mac powerbook, and after years of happy use of a Samsung notebook, I decided to take the plunge and buy a Mac. I amlo liked the idea of contributing to diversiy and not putting all my bucks in Gates's basket! People assured me there would be no compatibility problems bwteeen Office for PC and Office for Mac. So I moved from PC to Mac, but have had lots of problems. I have a powerbook 12". My main issues are that:
    1. Word and Powerpoint for Mac do not always convert properly when I take my files to work where I have to use PC. I find editing in powerpoint for Mac less easy than PPT for windows. Before an important presentation at an international conference recenly, the file I worked on on my Mac came out all funny when I loaded it onto the windows laptop that was already set up. I lost a good five minutes ******* around beore an international audience. Someitmes formatting in Word for Mac jumps and highlights and bold and bullet points go all srtrange or are lost when I take the file to work.
    2. The keyboard of the Mac is frustrating. I usually delete rightward; to do this on a Mac I have to hold down Fn and then delete, i.e. two finger operation. I always screw up since I am so used to the delete key on my PC and my brain gets in a twist. Is there a way I can change this?
    3. The power book is quite heavy (a simple moan as I travle a lot).
    4. Word, PPT and internet pages do not cover the whole screen, just the left half to three quarters, with a strip of unused screen on the right. I have been unable to make word for Mac ect cover the whole screen, so I always have to adjust the view size and then half the text is cut off. I would like to see the whole screen used. This is frustrating as the Mac has a kind of grainy screen.
    Any suggestions?
    Chris

    1. For problems related to Microsoft Office you should post your questions to Microsoft's own Mac discussions:
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups
    2. If you want to "forward-delete" on a Mac without hitting the function key, then you'll have to purchase a full size Apple USB keyboard.
    3. Sorry. Can't help with that one. Maybe you should have bough a ligther 15" Powerbook.
    4. Again, sorry, but that's not a bug, it's a learning curve. Longtime Windows users seem to be more often than not used to working with applications and windows that cover the whole screen. Mac users generally don't. Just drag the windows over to the right or click the green maximize button at the top left of each window.

  • MS Word for Macs 2011 in Mavericks - can you help with text formatting?

When I try to copy and paste text in MS Word for Macs 2011 (14.3.9) the text doesn't retain its formatting. I'm running a year old 27" iMac with OS 10.9.1 Mavericks. My other Mac is still running OS 10.8.5 and the same verision of Word works fine.
    Any ideas?

    Works fine, here.
I've found it difficult to actually nail down what causes the odd behaviors in Office. I think it is due to the config files scattered all over, never knowing which one to delete.
However, you may be able to isolate the problem to your own account, or to the system by trying two things:
    1) Log into another user account (a new one would be good, or Guest) and try there.
    2) Boot into Safe Mode and try there: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
If it works in 1, then there is something in your account causing the issues.
If it works in 2, then the something is third-party software.

  • Need full bleed PDF in Word for Mac 2011 ...

    Hi,
I created a PC Word 2010 template that bleeds on all 4-sides. The page size of the document is 5.5"X8.5". When trying to "Save As PDF" on the Word for Mac 2011 I get a .125"(1/8") white border on all sides. This
doesn't happen when I issue Save As PDF from the PC.
Can you tell me how to fix this problem?

  • Saving to normal.dot in Word for Mac

    Hi!
I don't know if this question belongs here but I couldn't seem to find any other forum for it.
So... how do I save to normal.dot in Word for Mac? I can't find the normal.dot template.
Hope someone can hekp - thanks

The only difference is that changing Normal.dot applies it to newly created documents. Come to think of it, I bet Word saves a 'snapshot' of the Normal template at the time the document is first saved, so when you're applying the Normal style, you're just reapplying the original normal associated with that document, not the modified Normal template.
Instead of saving a new Normal template, did you try modifying the Normal style using Format > Style, selecting Normal, clicking Modify and making the changes you want with the Add to Template and Automatically Update boxes checked? I suspect you would still need to reapply the Normal style to previously saved documents.
Also, under Tools Menu > Templates and Add-Ins there is an Automatically Update Document Styles checkbox under the Normal template. Checking this may cause Word to reapply the Normal style to old documents, but then again, maybe not...

  • "Save As" Command in Word for Mac 2011

My Word for Mac 2011 "save as" command no longer defaults to the same file as the main doc. Is there a fix or work around? It used to be when I "Save As" it stayed in the same file. Now it defaults to the root directory: Documents.

Thanks for replying..., but I'm referring to the "Save As" command (unlike the Duplicate in iWorks). When I begin to "save as" a document the current file flashes in the drop down window, but then suddenly reverts to the root directory--Documents. Prior to a recent update, it would--as you suggest, remain in the current file of the document I am "saving as". What makes me suspicious is this 'flash' and switch. (i.e. I use  the previous day's journal entry and "save as" for the current day. These are not to go into the 2014 File in my Journal File. But instead, the "save as" command flashes from the 2014 File the goes all the way back to the Main Documents File.) Do I need to save the daily journal entry as a template to work around this?
