Delete unwated default apps

Hello i have been setting up my ipod touch and although its great i cant seem to find any way of deleting unwanted apps, like stocks, youttube, mail, calculater etc.
These are not what i purchased the ipod touch for, if i wanted them i would have purchaed a iphone.
So is there anyway to remove them other then the few that can be done via restrictions?
thanks

That is impossible although to remove Safari, YouTube, iTunes and the App Store you go to Settings->General->Restrictions->Enable Restrictions->(set a code you will remember)
Hope This helps!
Good point!
BUT that still isn't removing them from the iPod, rather just hiding and removing access.

  • Deleting some default Apps?

I want to delete some of the default Apps I never use to clean up and save space. Like Youtube, Stocks and maybe Appstore because that works better from the regular computer.
Nowhere I can find if this is possible, and how???

You can only delete applications purchased from the iTunes store.
The original applications that came with the phone cannot be deleted and they will not have an x.
Safari, YouTube, iTunes (Store) and App Store can be disabled and their icons hidden by activation parental restrictions in Settings-General-Restrictions.

  • How to delete  apples default apps like nike +  ipod on iphone

How do you delete apps on the iphone that apple gives you that you don't want like nike+ipod

The apps which are installed as part of the default iOS installation cannot be deleted. I don't think that Nike+iPod is a default app; I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 4.3.5 and I don't have that app. So you should be able to delete that one.
edit: Hmm... read this for more info. Apparently, adjusting Settings can hide the icon, which is why I don't have it on my own Home screens. It's over a year ago so I didn't remember that I did this, or how I did it:

  • Deleting iphone 4 default apps.

    Hi,
Is there any way to delete the apps that apple put on the iphone 4 by default? like with the app store ones that have the X in the corner, or at least hide it? i want to get rid of stocks and weather since these are apps i wont ever use. I am on the latest 4.1 firmware if that makes any difference.
    TIA

Could of sworn this was just asked like 15 mins ago down the list.
No, default apps cannot be deleted.
A search before asking would of answered your question.

  • OS X doesn't remember the default app to open a file with [delete the thread]

Alright, so I have installed ACDSee and I want this app to be a default app the image files should be opened with.
However, OS X keeps reverting back to the system's "preview app".
Yes, I obviously ticked the "always open with" box, but it won't remember it. And at preferences (security & privacy) I allowed any app from the internet.
Is there a system file that I'd edit with a text editor and manually set up a default app for a certain file extension?
nevermind, rebooted the OS, and now everything works fine.

Is there a way to change the default program to open a file with another program using a Rededit key. I would like to change the program to open a .g3pp file with vlc instead of media player cause it doesn't read
    it.
Why make life hard for yourself? Just right-click any .g3pp-file, then left-click "Open with". That's all!

  • I used my id to download an app on my sister's ipad. Now my email account is visible on her ipad too. How can I reset her ipad without deleting my id, apps and docs?

I used my Apple id to download an app on my Sister's new ipad. Now my email account is visible on her ipad too. If I reset her ipad, will that delete my id, apps and docs on my ipad?

I figured out the solution to the problem. First I de-authorized her ipad in my itunes account and in Settings : Mails-Contacts -Calendars,  I deleted Yahoo as her default mail account. It was that simple afterall and I didn't need to reset anything.

  • Accidentally deleted the photos app icon from my iPhone 4s.

I've read the previous threads on this topic but none quite fit the bill. I need to re-install the Photos icon, which has disappeared.
This happened while I was holding my phone but not paying attention; when I looked again the icons were all shaking. I don't know how the icon disappeared because the factory defaults don't offer a delete option, but the icon definately disappeared at that time.
The app itself is still there and, because it was running when I deleted the icon, I can currently still access it by double clicking the main button, where app (and icon) is still accessible there at the bottom of the screen. But this is not convenient for general usage, and if I hard close the app from there then I will have no way to open the Photos app.
I can't re-download the app because it is a factory default app and not available anywhere (and as such shouldnt be deletable!).
The icon isnt hiding anywhere amongst my subfolders, and I've checked for restrictions but there arent any.
Restetting the home screen layout to factory defaults presumably means I  will lose all the other app icons I have, and their sub folders etc,  which I dont want to do either.
I have now backed up my phone and all my photos etc, but if I restore my phone from a previous backup, I will lose the data and messages I've acquired isince then.
All I want to do is re-install the icon and make sure it links to the photos app that is still installed - surley that can't be so hard?
    All help appreciated.
I don't have a Mac and run Windows 7 on a Sony VAIO. All versions of iTunes and IoS are up to date.

    PROBLEM SOLVED
ANSWER The exact same thing happened to me today.  I accidently deleted my Photo app (with over a 1000 photos in it) but I could still access it by pressing the home button twice.  This is because it was with the background running apps (when you press the home button twice it shows all the apps running in the background) but it would not let me drag it to the Home screen.
Well so I was anxiously reading this thread at church to see what to do (I did a search for, 'I accidently deleted my Photo app' and how I came across this thread).  Anyway, I searched all my subfolders and everywhere IT WAS NOT IN ANOTHER FOLDER AND THE PHOTO ICON WAS COMPLETELY GONE FROM ANY OF THE DESKTOPS.
Anyway, my phone was dying and no way to charge it so it died at church and so I connected it to my car charger in my car when leaving church and after the iphone came on again, there was the Photo App on my desktop!
So my advice is to let it completely run out of it's charge then later plug into a charger.  I have the iPhone 4S going on almost 2yrs now and this is the first time this has happened to me!   I was in a hurry getting ready for church and pressed it accidently so I know exactly when it happened (when all the apps have x's and you can delete them ...).
I always delete the backgound running apps to save battery power but I thought now I can never delete the Photo background running app or will lose everything!  Hope this works for you all.  I know I can connect it to my desktop and all but try this first - much easier...

  • How do I change the default app for opening a file;

If I right click on a file in finder, it tells me what the default app for opening the file is.  it also gives me a short list of other apps.
I would like to change the defaults for several file types, and also delete one app from the short list and add a different one.
    How do I do this?
    thanks

    You could try this:
    - right-click (tap with 2 fingers on the apple trackpad) on a file you want to open in openoffice
    - move the cursor over "open with". You should see the default app, then some suggestions, then app store, then at the end, "other...".  Select "other..."
    - find openoffice in your applications folder and select it  (if it is dimmed, change "enable: " from "recommended applications" to "all applications", then you can select "openoffice")
    - check "always open with"
    - then, click "open".  The file will open in openoffice and from now on, openoffice will be the default application to open the type of file you just opened.  You should also see the icon of all files of the same type change to the openoffice file icon.
This is supposed to work, but that's not always the case, especially when the default app happens to be an Apple app.  If you don't want to use that Apple app, delete it (or move it elsewhere if you want a backup). That can help.
    Good luck!

  • Fireworks as default app for jpg files

I was able to configure Fireworks to be the defaul app for jpgs - and when I click on a jpg file in my file manager, - Fireworks launches - but the image file that I clicked on does not open.
I like to be able to find a file using Windows Explorer (using Windows 7) and then click on it to launch in Fireworks - although it worked with 5.5 - it is not working with 6.0.
    What am I doing wrong?

I tested this on my Windows 7 system and it worked okay with the method I described. Fireworks wasn't in the list so I had to hit the Browse button and direct it to the Fireworks.exe after which double-clicking a jpeg image opened the image in Fireworks CS6. This functionality is a feature of Windows not the Adobe software. All of the file associations are based off of related Windows registry entries.
    Things you could try
    1) Specify a different default app like Windows Picture and Fax viewer and then try switching it to Fireworks CS6 again
Not an official Adobe solution, try at your own risk!
    2) Try resetting the file assocations to the Windows defaults then associating it again
    Had you deleted jpeg previously?
I found this, haven't had a needed to test the solution out myself but might be what you need

  • How to unpin default apps from the Start Screen using vbscript

    Hi,
I am looking for a way to programmatically unpin apps using vbscript from the Windows 8 Start Screen. I need to unpin SkyDrive, People, Calendar and messaging. I have been searching for a couple of days but I'm coming up with nothing so far.
I know how to pin my own choices of installed apps using vbscript but I can't figure out how to unpin the default apps.
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Some thoughts:
I started to investigate the many ways to manage the Metro start menu.  There are APIs but none are exposed to batch or VBScript.
    1.  Programs are installed into the 'All User' start menu, defult users profile start menu and a set of global links can be defined for metro.  THis is almost identical to ll previous versions except for the linking process which sets up the defaults.
If we install Office 20133 it will, if we choose, show up in all user start menu.  Each user can then unpin this.
    2. There is a file (binary) that keeps track of the Metro settings.  It seems to only be changeable via the API or by using the shell 'pin/unpin' verbs.
    3.  This behavior I identical to XP and other systems with the exception of how it is stored and in that you cannot remove items from the sztart menu prior to Windows 8.
    4. The default user profile can be customized and stored on the network so that it affects every system.
    5. The "All Users" 'profile' can only be customized after a program is installed or by altering the programs installer.
What you are trying to do runs counter to all Windows design since the first version of Windows.  We have NEVER been able to alter the start menu from script in such a way that a user could just add the item back in.  Your request seems to be incongruous
    to the design of Windows.
Now don't get me wrong.  What you are asking is partially possible but you need to alter the Windows image so that the All users profile does not propagate the shortcuts.  You can do this by just deleting them.  You need to delete them before
a user account is generated on the box. Delete them in the image. You can do this with MDT.  The shortcuts will not propagate to the user.  The user can still search for an app and add it to the start menu.
There may be a better way to set this up but I cannot see how without using the API.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Mac OSX mavericks - can't change the default app for InDesign

I have a problem that the InDesign CS6 stubbornly changes back the default file-type association for the .indd and .indb file types.
I tried to change it via Get Info - then it immediately changes back to InDesign CS6. Also tried with RC default App, but it forgets my setting immediately when I make them for InDesign CS5, and for CS6 it doesn't allow that I make it.
The only way that it works, is if I put the InDesign CS6 folder to Trash, and then change the file-type association - but then only until I start again InDesign CS6 which changes back all the file-type associations.
My workflow is like that, that I'm working on many projects, and my main clients use CS5, but some use CS6 - so I need both of them, but that CS5 is the main program. How can I fix this problem?
I am on latest Mac OS X 10.9.1
    THanks, Gas

Edit: Disregard. It worked for some text/ files but not video/x-... So I guess I still have the same problem.
The same thing happened to me.
I deleted (probably safer to first rename)
    ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list
    Then I ran
    kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental
I'm not sure if the first step was necessary, but it worked for me.

  • Files lose Default App preferences

Mac Pro Dual 2.6, 5 gb RAM, OS 10.1.11, CS4.
These are the steps I take to set the default app for PSD, tif, and jpegs.  Selected a file/Get Info/Open with/CS4/Change All/"Are you sure you want to change all similar documents to open with the application "Adobe Photoshop CS4.app"?"/Continue.  This works fine until I shut downt the computer.  When I restart the OS has gone back to it's defaults and made the "default app" Preview.  In order to get the PSD, tif, or jpeg files to recognize CS4 as the default app, I have to go through the previous process again.
What is am I doing wrong or how to do stop this from happeing?
    Thanks,

Odd that it didn't work before.  All that Cocktail option does is to delete the "com.apple.LaunchServices.plist" and reboot your machine.
Are you sure you rebooted after deleting the file manually early?
