Deleting database instances of previous Oracle Installations

How to delete database instances of previous Oracle Installations
I have Installed new instance of Oracle onto my server but on services window I can still see the older instances of oracle.
Apart from this I am unable to create database instance with same name as previous instance name.

Search in the windows registy and delete all occurrence of Oracle

  • Identical database & instance names in Oracle 11g R2 RAC

    Hi ,
         We are migrating our EBS 11i (11.5.10 CU 2) and oracle 11gr2 (11.2.0.3) database (database only) which is currently on Solaris to Linux. Currently the database is NON-RAC and as a part of the migration we are converting it in to a 5 Node RAC. A lot of third party interfaces connected to this environment are using hard coded database name. Unfortunately due to the project time lines it's impossible to change those applications within the migration timeline. In order to ensure that they don't break we are thinking of keeping one instance name same as database name so those applications can continue to function without any change to their code. We are aware that this would compromise on fail over capabilities for those applications but we are ok with that.
    This what we have in mind: Create 5 PROD instance named as PROD, PROD1,PROD2, PROD3 & PROD4. PROD being the name of the database also. I would like to know:
    1) Is this configuration allowed i.e., is it ok to have one instance with the same name as database?
    2) We will be creating a 5 node Data gaurd environment for this so what will be the impact of such a naming on it?
    3) Since it's an EBS environment will there be any issues with application configuration?   Our application architecture will be as below:
    6 application nodes - Two for concurrent managers, two for forms & web & two external nodes
    The two CM app nodes will be tied to two database instances using Services
    Remaining app nodes will connect to the remaining 3 instances once again using services.
    We will be configuring services using "vip" instead of scan names.
    4) What will be the impact if the node having the instance name same as database name goes down?
    5) Any other areas to worry about with such a configuration say like cluster services, 3rd partyinterfaces/applications?
    Please let me know if you have any idea of such a configuration.
    regards
    pramod

    Brian, rchem & Martin thanks for your responses. Appreciate it much. I was thinking about the service alternative but unfortunately I understand from my customer that their applications have hard coded database (used as a instance name) name. All they are saying is that their applications are using instance name instead of database name without providing much details on how it's being used. I just know that there 180 applications... Oracle & non Oracle based in which the instance name is hard coded, but haven't got answers to my questions on how it's hard coded i.e., is it being pulled from the database using a hard coded query like "select instance_name from v$instance" or is it a part of some variable in the script/application etc., and what it's being used for (later) within the application.  Answers to those question will help in deciding what  should be the right strategy but since I am short of time I thought of this and wanted to know if anybody has implemented or come across a similar architecture.
    I am creating services and using them in my EBS application ifile thereby avoiding SID but agree with you on the node failure part as I haven't tested this new set up yet.
    Martin,
              You are right, they are using the database name as a SID in their application hence the above need.  My cluster version is 11.2.0.4.0 (both Active & Software versions). The source database on solaris is 11.2.0.3 Non RAC, it's going to be upgraded to 11.2.0.4 before conversion/migration hence I have installed & created a 11.2.04 RAC environment as a part of POC/Load testing.

    Hi,
    I would try adding epdadm and SAPServiceEPD accounts to Administrators group and give Administrators full access to sapmnt shared area. Also double check SAP_EPD_GlobalAdmin domain admin authority and SAP_LocalAdmin and SAP_EPD_LocalAdmin accounts.
    Open
    DCASAPHR05\sapmnt\EPD\SYS\profile folder using explorer and created file and see if there is any authorzation issues with domail\sapinst account.
    good luck

  • Is the Oracle installer itself available in languages other than English?

    I know that Oracle can be configured to support multiple languages in the same database, but is the Oracle installation software itself (and/or corresponding documentation) available in other languages?

    Ah :-) MOS = My Oracle Support http://metalink.oracle.com (Oracle Support website)
    You will need a valid login to get access - a valid login is given when you purchase Support services from Oracle :-)
    The installer is available in several languages and it determines the language to run in automatically based on "locale" settings on the server where the installer is run.

  • Deleting ESB instances

    Oracle provides Java classes to inspect existing BPEL instances, including
    deleting BPEL instances. Does Oracle provide equivalent classes for ESB instances?
    Is there an existing mechanism to automatically delete ESB instances, for example,
    older that X number of days?
    Thanks!

    To purge the instances based on time
    Purges instance based on the following criteria.
    -     All
    -     Older than <time>
    Action          :
    UpdateTrackingConfig
    Sample      :
    Deletes all the instances that are older than 10 minutes (Represented as Milliseconds below)
    String purge = "<purgeInstance userPurgeTimePeriod=\"600000\"/>";
    HashMap<String,String> requestProps = new HashMap<String,String>();
    requestProps.put("root", purge);
    ConsoleClient client = ConsoleClientFactory.getConsoleClient(HOST,PORT,USER_NAME,PASSWORD);
    client.perform("UpdateTrackingConfig", requestProps);
    In case of an error, an exception would be thrown back to the caller.
    This will disable the instance tracking, So you need to enable it again by using the below code
    String instanceTracking = "<instanceManage enable=\"true\"/>";
    HashMap <String,String> requestPropsinstanceTracking = new HashMap<String,String>();
    requestPropsinstanceTracking.put("root", instanceTracking);
    client.perform("UpdateTrackingConfig", requestPropsinstanceTracking);
    **import oraesb.jar from integration/esb/lib.**
    Schedule this Java Main daily..So it will purge all the instances older than the given time.
    Thanks,
    Jp

  • Restoring a RMAN backup to a new database instance

    Hi Mates,
    I have an issue with restoring a RMAN backup that i have with me to a new database instance. What i have with me are:
    1. Backup of SPFile. (O1_MF_NCNNF_CTLFILE_BU_92DVGYO2_.BKP)
    2. Backup of Control file (O1_MF_NNSNF_SPFILE_BU_92DVGW9H_.BKP)
    3. Full database backup (O1_MF_NNSNF_FULLPROD_BU_92DVGW9H_.BKP)
    I have received these files from a customer environment and I need to restore these to a new database instance in a local machine. I have given a attempt as follows (in Oracle 10g):
    1, Created a new database instance (Test75) using Oracle Database Configuration Assistant
    2. SET ORACLE_SID = Test75
    3. Connected to this instance using RMAN
    4. Tried to restore the SPFILE from the received BKP file.
    I am getting errors and cannot proceed. I am not sure whether I am executing the correct steps. Please help me out by telling me how should I achieve this.
    Thank you.

    1. Backup of SPFile. (O1_MF_NCNNF_CTLFILE_BU_92DVGYO2_.BKP)
    2. Backup of Control file (O1_MF_NNSNF_SPFILE_BU_92DVGW9H_.BKP)
    The first backuppiece looks like a ControlFile and the second one looks like an SPFILE'
    >I am getting errors and cannot proceed
    What is the error ?  (I assume that you tried to restore the SPFILE from O1_MF_NNSNF_SPFILE_BU_92DVGW9H_.BKP
    Note that you also have to SET DBID before you restore the controlfile

  • Database Instance Installation error- DIM:00011

    Hi,
         I got the following error during installation of ECC 5.0 Ides version.  It was Oracle Database(10.2.0.2) on Windows 2003 server(SP 2)
    DIM-00011. The service does not exist. Cause: You have tried to edit a service which does not exist, or there is an error trying to access the registry
    I couldn't find Oracle services in the Services directory at all.  Previously I installed Oracle 10.2( software only) and then applied Patch set 10.2.0.2 using OUI.  I was unable to connect to Database using SQL* plus session.
    However I was able to install Central Instance.  The error occured during Database Instance Installation.

    I have created instance N04 and service OracleServiceN04 using ORADIM.  Now I have total 3 oracle services in Services directory.
    1)OracleJobscheduler 2) OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListener3)OracleserviceN04
    However, I am still unable to connect through SQL*plus. I get following errors:
    Ora-1034 & Ora-27101
    I wish to continue with installation...what do you suggest?

  • Problem with database instance installation

    Hi@all,
    I'm dealing with the installation of the sap solution manager 3.2 SR1.
    The platform is a win 2000 server, I use Oracle as the database.
    Oracle was installed successfully and the installation of the central instance terminated without errors.
    Now I try to install the next step, the database instance.
    I always choosed the standard parameters, except for I choosed no domain installation and unchecked using SLD.
    Nevertheless, the installation procedure stops at step 16 with the following error log entry (partially translated from german to english):
    System call failed. Error 1332 (Allocations of account names and safety identifications were not accomplished.
    ) in execution of system call 'LookupAccountName' with parameter (NULL, Administrators, ...), line (305) in file (synxcaccmg.cpp).
    I've attached the full logfille here.
    Looks like sapinst cannot get the system user parameters?
    How could I solve this? Any idea?

    This was the clue
    I read through the whole planning and preparation tutorial and through the preinstallation and installation tutorial.
    There's no recommondation to have the english os version installed.
    But better such an easy problem instead of a difficult one
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi Praveen,
    It looks to be more permission issue rather than space issue. Ensure the file system where you copied the DVD has full permission.
    Check the installation logs for more details on which other file system needs full permission and work accordingly.

  • Database instance: You are not a member of the specified Installer group

    Hi,
    When I start ./RUNINSTALLER in HP-UX to install oracle, as a part of database instance instalation of SAP, the following message appeared.
    "The Oracle Universal Installer Inventory on this system does not exist or is not writable. the possible cause are:
            1. The /tmp/orainstRoot.sh script was not executed with root priveleges, or an error occured during  execution

    Hi,
    I am trying to install oracle 9i as required by SAP ECC 5.0. Instance name is PRD as disaster recovery will be tested in that system. In the same time our SOLMAN is running in that system with database oracle 10g. We are planning to run parallel process in same time SOLMAN and DR PRD.
    Till now we have done SAP Central instance installation. While trying to install database instance SAP asked to go /oracle/stage/920_64/Disk1/SAP and run the script RUNINSTALLER in HP-UX system for oracle.
    To do this I have done the following
    a. Logged on the system as oraprd
    b. Set up environmental variable
              ORACLE_HOEM to /oracle/PRD/920_64
              DISPLAY to My work station IP:0.0
    and started OS> ./RUNINSTALLER
    After some time a window appeared headed by "Inventory Location"
    I Specified base directory /oracle/oraInventory and pressed OK.
    Then a window asked to run script /tmp/orainstRoot.sh by root user and then press continue
    The script run successfully by user root. But when I press continue the following message appeared.
    The Oracle universal Installer Inventory on this system does not exist or is not writable. The possible cause are:
            1.  /tmp/orainstRoot.sh script was not executed with root priveleges or an error occured during execution.
            2.  You are not a member of the specified Installer group.
    Please help me how can I resolved the problem.
