Deleting database links

When create a data source in OWB, I have to add a database link (in the connection tab, by pressing the "New Db link" button).
But how can I delete all the database links already defined and not needed anymore? There's no delete button for doing this.

I don't think it is possible to delete them from OWB.
You can log in to the OWB user in SQL*Plus and drop the db link here with the syntax below or drop it through Enterprise Manager Console.
DROP [PUBLIC] DATABASE LINK <link_name>
Restrictions: You cannot drop a database link in another user's schema and you must specify PUBLIC to drop a PUBLIC database link.

Good morning all.
I have a database link LINKA from USERA on LOCALSERVER to USERB on REMOTESERVER.

when "Link to Single Row View", report displays correctly.
when "Link to Custom Target", I get the error "The requested URL /pls/apex/f was not found on server.
When I run the select * from TABLEXV as a regular report (i.e. not interactive), I also get the error.
So the only time I get the report displayed correctly is using IR and "Link to Single Row View".
However, clicking on the link (for Single Row View) I get "The requested URL /pls/apex/wwv_flow.show was not found on this server.".
To summarize:
- accessing table via view over database link
- works outside of apex without issue
- inside only works when Link to Single Row View set
- But clicking on link fails
I could live with just having the Link to Singe Row View option if I could disable displaying of the icon so that the user cant click on it.

Using database link in my triggers,urgent

There's DB A on ServerA,DB B on ServerB.Table TA in ServerA's DB and TB on ServerB's DB.My purpose is to synchronize usera.TA with userb.TB real time.
In order to realize it,I created dblink AtoB from A to B using command "create database link AtoB.domain connect to userb identified by userb using 'BTNSname';",it's no problem for I have test on it :select count(*) from [email protected];It's ok to get the result.
But when I create trigger on table TA by using the dblink AtoB.domain to update,delete and insert datas to TB,the error "PLS-00201: identifier '[email protected]' must be declared" occurs while compiling.
The oracle version on the two servers is 8.1.7.
It happens on the production envrionment,but in our lab,there's no problem.The difference between them is that it is cluster structure in production one.
I tried several times,but failed,just wondered if some privilege was not right?But I can do selection from this dblink,only in trigger there's compilation errors.
Really hope that someone could give light on it.

In addition,I did some modification in my triggers to have a try.
I created a synonym for the remote table,and the trigger then updates the synonym instead of the remote table [email protected] .But also failed.
The same error,saying the synonym is not declared.
Any good way to realize the same thing?

I don't use replication because the destination table's structure is not exactly the same as the source one.
--The selection was done in the production,connection to the source schema,then select through the dblink from the source to the dest schema,the trigger is created in source schema on source table to handle datas in destination schema's table.In lab,all is ok,no such a problem.
--I created two dblinks,one is connect to source as system user,created a public dblink "create public database link AtoB.domain using 'BTNSname';";the other is connect as UserA,"create database link AtoB.domain connect to UserB identified by UserB using 'BTNSname';".

Change of a database link in OWB

I have a good suggestion to change a a database link when a server is moved to another location (in that case the database link of the source module has to be changed)
In OWB 9.0.2 it's not impossible to delete a database link in OWB, so you have to do it manually
(in 9.0.4 it should be possible, but this version is also not easy to use).
- Start SQL Plus and log in as the schema on which the OWB repository is created (e.g. OWB).
- Drop the database link ('drop database link <dblink name>')
- Create a new database link in the same schema with the new parameters, e.g:
CREATE DATABASE LINK "<dblink name>"
CONNECT TO "<...>" IDENTIFIED BY "<...>"
USING '(DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (Host = <hostname>) (PORT = 1521))) (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = <sid> )))'
Done!
No stupid errors in OWB when you create the database link in OWB itself.

I found solution.
Main problem was in GLOBAL_NAMES parameter.
This description help me:

Cause: A remote mapping of the statement is required but cannot be

The insert statement is transformed so that it can be executed at the remote
end of the dblink. The reference to the local sequence has to be qualified so

Database Links not generated

In OWB 9i, the database links are not generated as part of the mapping anymore. My problem is that I create a new source module and then a mapping using this source module, but it does not generate the code for the database link. When I deploy the mapping it says the database link does not exist, but it does not provide the code for generating the links. Am I missing something? I would appreciate a fast response, since I'm currently giving the OWB course and have to show the students the new 9i features tomorrow (Thursday 15 Aug)! Thanks!!

Hi Marlene,
You can get the database link DDL when you generate the Warehouse Module as a whole, open the Warehouse module editor and highlight the Warehouse module, right click and generate. In the generation results filter on DB links and review the scripts, deploy these in the schema where you want to install the mappings.
To create new db links, go to configuration on the warehouse module where you need to links, in there choose the last entry (database links). This also allows you to delete the ones you don't need.

Database links in an onload process

In order to be able to use database links, I had to use execute immediate in my onload process. However, in doing this, the app is branching to the next page before the execute immediate statement has finished running. Is there a work around for this?

I have a chart on page x that has a link. When I click the chart to drilldown, it goes to page 40. On page 40, there is an onload process that pulls data from another database and inserts into a table. I had to use execute immediate in order to be able to insert data using a link.
I know this is not working because when I click to drilldown on my chart, I see my insert statement still running but page 40 is displayed as if no data has been loaded. However, if I wait until the insert finishes running and hit F5 to refresh the page, my data is displayed.
For testing purposes, I insert into a table when my insert begins running and then delete the record when the insert finishes.

Need help/info on "database link of same name has an open connection"

Hello,
I am trying to create an application on html db (new in html db) to see if I can move data from one database (oracle 9i) say dbdev to another one called dbtest. I want to be able to select the data from html db app and by clicking on a button move them to dbtest ( right now only looking at data from one table ). This is what I have done so far:
1. created a duplicated table of dbdev into html db with no data.
2. created package with procedures to
A. create a database link
B. delete if there is a record on html db table
C. go trough a loop (cursor) and get the data from dbdev
D. drop the database link
Now, when I do all of the above steps I get an error database link of same name has an open connection" but when I dont do the step C. I dont get this error. So something is wrong in my step C. On my step C, I just open the cursor, do a for loop and insert the records into my html db table.
Any idea!!!

I currently hava a database link to MySQL. I can read, insert, delete and update with no problems when using literals. However when I attempt to carry out the same actions using pl/sql variables I recieve the following error:

Creating user using database link

Hi
I have 11g installed on one of the server
I have created the database link BUGAU to bugau.us.oracle.com
link works fine
select * from table@"Bugau" gives the expected result
I need run the below statement from my server using the dblink.but not sure how to use the dblink for this purpose.Please assit
CREATE USER ABC IDENTIFIED BY welcome DEFAULT TABLESPACE USERS_001 TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp123;
GRANT DEFAULT TO abc;

Could not initialize the Password Store Database Link value in Preference Store

I have 9iAS release 2, insfrastructure and midtier installed on the same Windows 2000 box...
I am trying to install and configure portal on remote machine (solaris) on RDBMS 9.0.1.4...
- Portal installation was no problem
- creating a new DAD was no problem
Now, I am trying to configure portal with MIDTIER mode...It falls over on STEP 1 for INSTALL_ACTION:assocPortalToExistingSSO() module with following error message:
"SQL> Could not initialize the Password Store Database Link value in Preference Store
ERROR: User-Defined Exception"
Database link is been created on my remote database by ptlasst.bat command...
How do I see whether that DB LINK is working properly ?
Any comment would be helpful...

I found the problem to the iTunes Music Store connectivity. When iTunes version 6 is installed, it places a configuration / preferences file in the following location:
"C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref"
This file contains several very large keys:
Preferences:129= (41,826 characters in length)
Music Store= (1,722 Characters in length)
Somewhere in these keys is stored are references to userid's, connections or other TCP/IP / internet connectivity objects that are being used when iTunes is installed. By deleting this file, these old setting appear to be cleared out.
In my case, one or more of the keys in this file appear to have been storing a property from my old dial-up ISP connection that was no longer valid for my new, Comcast cable modem connection.
Once I deleted this file, and re-started iTunes, it was as if I had never run the software before. I bypassed the option for searching for and importing .mp4's from My Music, and Itunes opened correctly, with full access to the music store. My library and playlists were intact and all is well.
Apple should re-write the protion of iTunes codes that stores anything pertaning to an internet connection that may change over time. Alternatively, iTunes should either A) Prompt for this information B) Enable user access to this parameter in a settings dialog C) Access this information dynamically at runtime.

Can't create database link when password has special character

I'm trying to execute the following statement within sqlplus
create database link alpha connect to scott identified by tiger! using 'db_alpha'
note that the password for the account has an exclamation point in it. the command fails. I've tried placing the password in quotes (') and double-quotes ("). The double-quotes work, but then the link fails to function properly.
We are required to have a special character in our passwords... so how do I get that special character into the password for the database link?

I have put the password within double quotes... so I'm starting to think the problem is something else. I've been reading other posts regarding creating database links and I've obtained limited results. Here's what I've done, and the results I'm getting.
(names changed to protect the innocent)
My oracle database is on SYSA. I'm on SYSB. I set my TWO_TASK=SYSA and just use sqlplus to connect as user1.
I want to run a command on user2's tables. Normally I would just grant read access to user1 on user2's tables and use a command like

So my goal with the database link is to create a private (for user1 only) database link and access the tables that way, that way I bypass the grant issue. This works out better for me because we only change that password every 2 months. I just recreate the database link once every two months, rather than recreate grants multiple times every week. Well, that's the theory anyway.
Back to creating the database link, I thought my issue was the special character in the password because if I remove the exclamation point everyting works (except that the password is invalid). Below is what it looks like when I do this...

So that looks like it's just a password issue. If I put in the correct password... the error changes to this...

To me, that doesn't make sense. If the link isn't working... how did it get the "invalid username/password" in Attempt #1?
Anyway, in perusing other forum posts, one post said to put in the full text from the tnsnames.ora file instead of the alias. So I do a little cut/paste and try this...

Slow database link behaviour

I've written an accouting program 15 years ago that runs on developer, with excellent performance overall. Now I'm trying to write an apex program that uses a database link to access the data on a 10.1.0.3.0 SE database. Two things are happening: 1) every once in a while, when I navigate on a view in an XE report (the usual "next 15 records" option,) apex asks if I want to "save" the file (f.bin) and then it gets real slow! Too slow for commercial use... I mean, it takes minutes to move between pages. 2) every two pages that I navigate, it gets really, really slow! It goes from the first page to the next fast; fast again; and then sloooow; fast, fast and then slow; fast, fast, and then: save the page. It is driving me nuts. I've tried using a 10g SE table@, I've tried using a 10g SE view@, and I've tried using an XE view on a 10g SE table - but I am having the same results... However, if I write an XE table, based on a 10g SE view, and do not use the database link, keeping everything local (using only the XE) - it gets very fast, and the strange behavour ends! I wanted to use a database link because it would be easier, much simpler to write the program, and very dynamic. If a have to transfer data between databases it will be much harder to do it.
Any ideas? Has anyone come across such behaviour? Do you believe it could be a bad installation? By the way, the 10g SE runs on RHES4 and the XE runs on debian; I'am using apex 2.0. Thanks.

An update on the problem: I've decided to go with the whole XE solution, and I wrote another application, that works just fine! It's normal, I mean, fast! That is, until I transfer data between databases - then it gets real slow until the user logs out. Interesting, isn't it? Later on I'll try the other way around, connecting to SE and transfering the data from XE. I am using something like:
insert into table@dblink select * from table; delete from table;
insert into table select * from table@dblink; delete from table@dblink;

Using database-link in view to get around ORA-01031 error

I have been granted select rights on a users table. I am therefore able to select from his table. If however I try create a view against his table I run into the ORA-01031 problem. I have worked around this problem by creating a database-link to myself and then adding that to the view creation and it works. What are the downsides of using the database-link in this way?

The only down side I have been able to identify is that a extra session is created and that the CPU has a little extra work due to the LOOP BACK that takes place. I need to ensure the network is not unnessesarly used and therefore will need to ensure that 127.0.0.1 (local host) is used in the database connection discription. e.g.
create database link my_db_link connect to scott identified by tiger using '(description=(address=(protocol=tcp)(host=127.0.0.1) (Port = 1521) ) (connect_data= (sid=ora10g)))';

As you can see i'm using heterogeneus services to connect to a informix database. ALTIADM is a valid user for that database, i don't send my ip address 192.168.0.62, but the error says "[email protected] is not known in the database server". how can i solve it?????
