Deleting HTML Snippets

I'm using Contribute CS3 on a Windows Vista Home Premium
platform to test inserting html snippets into a sports web page. I
want to change out the code periodically to provide fresh content.
I can get the snippet to work just fine, and I can see the icon for
the snippet when I edit the page. However, when I try to delete it,
I get the following message:
"You cannot perform this action in this region of the page."
I've tried deleting the table cell into which it was inserted
as well as the entire table row, and it just gives me the same
message. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of it?

also seeing this on my end, The one thing you can do is try
choosing Action>Edit in External application> and then remove
the html code that way in Notepad. It does seem a bit wonky that
you can't select and remove the html snippet by selecting it..

Html snippets appear after being deleted

Hello all,
I have a web counter that continues to show up when I put any html snippet on my page. I deleted the counter, but it comes bace when I try to add other code. Thoughts???

Clear your browser's cache (Command+Option+E for Safari), reload the page and see if the counter still shows.

Change font in JavaScript in html snippet

I would like a 'this website was last updated' and have found a script that seems to work in an html snippet in iweb but I can't work out how to change the font. Also I don't want to incude the day of the week but am unsure how much to delete. I'm a novice so if someone could edit the code for me that would be marvellous! I would like the font to be in Helvetica Neue in size 12. Thank you

Eureka! I think I've finally done it. With the help of all of you and combining & editing scripts I think I've achieved it. It seems to be working anyway. Perhaps you would have a look at it and see if there are any glaring errors! Many thanks to you all... I understand it a little better now but I still couldn't have done it on my own. Thanks again

HTML snippet not working

I have multiple sites that I've created with iWeb and have used the program for years. However, in an attempt to update one of my sites I encountered a road block. I was trying to embed html from my Vimeo site using the html snippet function but the regular html snippet window was not present, (i.e. no gray window to place code, no apply button. Just a blank white box). When I do copy the code it just sits on the page like text.
I've re-installed iWeb but the same scenario is occurring.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try the following:
1 - close iWeb.
2 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
3 - go to your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
4 - reboot.
5 - launch iWeb and try again.

If you don't try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.

HTML Snippet customized paypal buttons not showing correctly when published

Hi, My customized paypal buttons that i but on my iweb site using html snippets are not displaying correctly. They work in Opera but not in firefox or safari. Please take a look and tell me what you think might be wrong. (all the links are working it's just not showing the graphics correctly (apart from in Opera)

Also I've just noticed that when i return to my iweb application (after closing in down) the Html snippets aren't there anymore just an outline, just like they appear in safari?

You inserted an image inside the ShopTable_Lampsfiles folder but it's is deleted every time you publish your page
1) Create an new folder named Paypal in your root folder:
FTP: With a FTP software (like Cyberduck) create a new folder in your server root folder
MobileMe: just make an new folder inside the Folder Sites (iDisk > Web > Sites)
Name this Folder "paypal"
2) insert your image "addtocartbutton.png" inside this paypal folder
Get the new URL of your image , something like
http://www.alisonbrent.com/paypal/addtocartbutton.png
3) Paste this URL in your codes, replace
src="http://www.alisonbrent.com/ShopTable_Lampsfiles/addtocartbutton.png"
by
src="http://the/new/URL/of/addtocartbutton.png"

IWeb HTML snippet doesn't work hosted outside MobileMe

I created a site with iWeb and used to HTML snippets.
When I publish the site on MobileMe all works fine
When I publish the site with my Dutch Web hosting company, those HTML components won't work.
The vistor to the page finds a error message instead of the HTML widget:
Not Found
The requested URL /test/Welkom_files/widget3_markup.html was not found on this server.
Apache/2.0.52 (Red Hat) Server at www.knipdoor.nl Port 80
Does anyone know what's wrong and how to solve the issue?

It's clearly written :
The requested URL /test/Welkom_files/widget3_markup.html was not found on this server.
So go to your server and see if it's really missing.
And if you added/deleted/changed HTML Snippets, iWeb creates new widget-markup files with new sequence numbers. When you load the webpage, some widget-markup files might not be present anymore because of these changes.
Clear the cache of the browser and reload the webpage.

IWeb HTML Snippet--Facebook Badge

I've had a Facebook HTML Snippet on my iWeb home page for over a year and suddenly this week, it quit working. I just see the outline box with a question mark in the middle now. I tried deleting the snippet an republishing it several times. I've repasted the HTML code from Facebook several times into the box. When I click on APPLY, it just doesn't work anymore. I've tried several of the Facebook snippets, and none of them work either. Wonder what's changed?

IWeb HTML Snippet NOT WORKING.

Hello!
Whenever I open iWeb and try to insert HTML Snippet, the proper HTML rectangle that has < H T M L > and a map of the world in the background appears, just like that. No edit box has appeared. When I double click it, a blue outline appears, but still no edit box to insert the HTML code into.
I've tried removing com.apple.iWeb.plist and also com.apple.iapp.plist or something along those lines, and also removing the iWeb folder from Caches, and nothing has worked.
I'm using iWeb 2.0.4, obviously.

Did you purchase iLife 09 in your attempt to upgrade to iWeb 3? If not that's why you couldn't run any of the iWeb 3 updaters. You have to have iWeb 3.0 installed from the iLife disk installed.
What was unsuccessful about trying to reinstall iWeb 2? Did you delete all receipts with iWeb in the file name located in the HD/Library/Receipts folder before reinstalling iWeb? If no, delete them and the application and reinstall.

Can't edit HTML snippets

Hello there,
This is around the third time I ask about this issue. I installed Leopard with iLife '08, and later (after I started having the problem) installed iLife '09.
What happens is, when I try to add an HTML snippet, I am presented with a blank box with a white outline, which I cannot alter in any way, save for moving and resizing it. Also, I cannot edit the HTML snippets I added before I had this problem. And finally, the dynamic preview of my blog merely displays the same blank box I described above. This happens in both iWeb '08 and iWeb '09.
The problem arose after I started poking around in folders such as /Library, /System/Library, and /Users/Sean/Library (I'm not exactly sure, as this was around four months ago). The thing is, I opened iWeb again nearly a week after, so I'm not completely certain there is a correlation, although I consider this the most likely culprit.
Please don't tell me to edit or delete .plist files, as this has no effect. Nor does creating a new /Users/Sean/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain work (which, oddly enough, I thought did, but it was after a Leopard reinstall).
I would really appreciate if you speculated on which file I need to restore (try adding an HTML snippet in a working iWeb, while running Activity Monitor, and browsing the files it uses?), and I can restore it using Pacifist (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12743) and my Leopard install DVD. By the way, is it safe to do this, now that I have iWeb '09 installed? I would imagine, since upgrading didn't fix the issue, but I can't be certain...

Try Troubleshooting 101: delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, repair disk permissions, reboot and try again.
If that doesn't help log into another account on your Mac, open iWeb, create a test site and see if you can use the snippets there as intended. If not then a reinstall of iWeb seems warranted. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iWeb" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder.
If the snippets are able to be used correctly in the other account then there's something in your account that is amiss. Post back with the results.

Can't edit html snippet

I have numerous html snippets that work fine. However I can't edit them any more. When I click on the snippet in iWeb I used to get a window with the snippet code to edit. That doesn't happen any more. Same thing for new html snippets: No edit window to place code in. Don't know when it stopped working since I haven't tried editing snippets for several months.

Thanks. That was helpful. Deleting preferences or repairing permissions didn't help. Reinstalling did the trick. FYI: You can install iWeb straight from disk individually without Pacifist.
After all of that I found out what had caused the problem in the first place: I had moved the iWeb application into a sub folder of the Applications directory. That seems to be breaking this feature only. Any thoughts on moving applications? Is there a best practice not to?

Google calendar as HTML snippet

I'm trying to embed my Google calendar to my site. It worked once, and then suddenly it stopped working. Now when anyone visits my website they see only a "sign in to Google calendar" window instead of my personal calendar.
I used an HTML snippet to do this, and I went into "calendar settings" in Google to grab the HTML code. Copied and pasted it. Like I said, it worked for a few days and now I can't make it work again no matter how many times I delete and re-insert the snippet.
Very very very frustrating.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I'm having the same issue with my Google calendar in this demo page: Google calendar. It was working the last time I checked it so it has to be something haywire at Google's end.
My page is loading very, very slowly today pointing the finger at MMe. My iCal calendar is also not loading which fixes the culprit as MMe. I'm not surprised.

HTML Snippet annoyance

Have a simple website with a HTML Snippet successfully showing one tripadvisor snippet.
However, added a new HTML Snippet to the page pointing to something else, and when published locally, looks fine, but when loaded to the web, keeps duplicating the first HTML Snippet so that I end up with TWO HTML Snippets showing the same information. Have deleted them both, started again, republished, perhaps done this three times now, simplyfing the process to make sure I wasnt duplicating it.
But no, each time I publish to the net, (and clear the browser cache too) I get two versions of the HTML Snippet for the Tripadvisor, and not the google one I wanted
Anything to tell me?

That can happen. Especially in Safari.
Brute force to the resque.
Reload the page frantically : Command-R
If that does not help, open the Activity window in Safari : Command-Option-A
Then double-click both widgetmarkup files and reload them.
Close both windows and load the webpage again.
If all else fails. Clear the cache and/or quit/start Safari again.

Iweb html snippet

Hi, since I have updated to ilife 09 my html snippet and Youtube will not show on my site.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You might have to delete that widget and recreate it. What's the URL of your site so we can examine the page first hand?
