I want to create an installation where I install
oracle XE with a data I prepared in advance, suce as
user accounts and tables.
You can run you prepared data(if it is sql files) on XE database, or use export /import/dbms_metadata utility to transfer data from your database to XE database.
Remember lot of option are not enabled(like bit map index) on XE.
is it possible? what files exactly to I need to
copy/replace after the installation of the oracle XE
?Can you explain , what is your exact requirement in detail.

  • Creating a new database in Oracle Database 10g...

    I have downloaded a copy of Oracle Database 10g Express Edition from Oracle's website. I am using Windows XP. I am trying to create an Oracle database that I can connect to from Access 2003 via ODBC.
    1. How do I create a new database? I can see options to create tables, views, etc. but not a database.
    2. I have created a System DSN connection in the ODBC Data Source Administrator for the Oracle ODBC driver. Once I create a database in Oracle, how do I actually establish a connection to it from Access? The ODBC code to connect is there, but when I run it, I get an error.
    Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    1. How do I create a new database? I can see options to create tables, views, etc. but not a database.If you can see those options then you are already connected to the database. You probably want to create a user, not a database (are you by chance coming from SQL Server?)
    driver={OracleDriver};Dbq=TESTDBQ;Uid=Administrator;Pwd=;You would replace "Administrator" with the name of the user you created in the database.

  • Creating a new database in a new Oracle home

    Hi,
    I'd like to add a new database using dbca, but I want it in a different Oracle Home to the other databases on the server. I notice that in the dbca I do not get an option to specify a new Oracle home. I assume it is because this tool is only for database creation and not instance creation. Do I therefore need to do a full Oracle install in order to create a second Oracle home?
    Many thanks.
    ****Ignore this, I know what I'm doing now****

    You need to better understand what an ORACLE_HOME is. An Oracle home has nothing to do with a Oracle database.
    ORACLE_HOME defines the location of an installation of an Oracle software installation.
    Where you decide to put a database is irrelevant to the location of an ORACLE_HOME.
    One ORACLE_HOME can have zero, one, or many databases.
    But you can not have an ORACLE_HOME without an installation of Oracle software.
    The concept docs are at http://tahiti.oracle.com.

  • About spfile creating in oracle 10g while creating a new database

    hi everyone,
    i had this problem while i was creating a new database in oracle 10g.when running the database script, it gives an error about invalid option for create temporary tablespace. is it necessary to have an spfile created in 10g. when the script was not working,we tried to create spfile which gives error tht it does not match the parameter db_name. its taking the default db_name=orcl itself..tis not taking our new db name.
    im creating it manually through sql prompt not through DBCA.the problem is that its still accepting the default db name. please send me the solution with syntaxes.
    thanx

    first of all, thanx for giuding me as im a student doing a course in this
    what abt the creation of spfile.. in a documentation for steps in creating database, they have mentioned it as recommended in creating spfile.here are some notes regarding this ....for oracle 10g
    Step 5: Create a Server Parameter File (Recommended)
    Oracle recommends that you create a server parameter file as a dynamic means of maintaining initialization parameters. The server parameter file is discussed in "Managing Initialization Parameters Using a Server Parameter File".
    The following script creates a server parameter file from the text initialization parameter file and writes it to the default location. The script can be executed before or after instance startup, but after you connect as SYSDBA. The database must be restarted before the server parameter file takes effect.
    -- create the server parameter file
    CREATE SPFILE='/u01/oracle/dbs/spfilemynewdb.ora' FROM
    PFILE='/u01/oracle/admin/initmynewdb/scripts/init.ora';
    SHUTDOWN
    -- the next startup will use the server parameter file
    EXIT
    the error : db_name does not match with the parameter.
    its still taking the default orcl database name

  • HELP: Problem creating a new database in Oracle 9i

    I am having difficulty in creating a new database in Oracle 9i, on Windows 2000. I would be obliged if somebody can go through the posting below and guide me as to what mistake I am making or what is the source of the problem:
    I reproduce the steps taken by me.
    I have decide the database to be called Mydb. I have made the following directories:
    -- d:\mydb
    -- d:\mydb\data
    -- d:\mydb\control
    -- d:\mydb\log
    -- d:\mydb\bdump
    -- d:\mydb\cdump
    -- d:\mydb\udump
    -- d:\mydb\archive
    -- d:\mydb\pfile
    -- d:\mydb\scripts
    -- d:\mydb\exp
    I copied the initoracle.ora file to d:\mydb\pfile\initmydb.ora, and made the following changes to it:
    -- db_name = mydb
    -- instance_name = mydb
    -- control_files = ("d:\mydb\control\control01.ctl")
    -- background_dump_dest = d:\mydb\bdump
    -- core_dump_dest = d:\mydb\cdump
    -- user_dump_dest = d:\mydb\udump
    -- remote_login_passwordfile = exclusive
    Also, I created a text file called d:\Oracle\Ora90\DATABASE\initmydb.ora with the following contents:
    ifile=d:\mydb\pfile\initmydb.ora
    At DOS prompt, I run the following command:
    set oracle_sid=mydb
    I run the ORAPWD utility to create internal password file at the command prompt.
    d:
    cd \oracle\ora90\database
    orapwd file=pwdmydb.ora password=panther entries=25
    I create a Windows service for the database as follows:
    oradim -new -sid mydb -startmode a -pfile d:\mydb\pfile\initmydb.ora
    I get connected:
    sqlplusw /nolog
    connect sys/change_on_install as sysdba
    startup nomount # pfile=d:\mydb\pfile\initmydb.ora
    create database mydb

    Now I get the following error:
    create database mydb
    ERROR at line 1:

    The data files, control file, redo log files are all created. But the above error comes, and I am unable to start the database. What is the reason?
    Thanks in anticipation.
    PS

    Hi DENIS,
    I have executed the following commands (which are in a script file),
    1. sqlplus /nolog
    2. connect sys/change_on_install as sysdba
    3. create database ...
    4. ...
    When I execute the 3rd command, I get an error message as "ORACLE TERMINATED FORCED" and it will end the session. So when the next set of commands in the script are executed, I got the error saying "DATABASE NOT OPEN".
    How to rectify this problem.
    Thanks in advance,

  • How to Create A new Database in the oracle 10g XE

    i have oracle 10g XE i tried to create a new database but its giveing me error when i execute the sql command that is create database testDatabase how to create a new database in oracle 10g XE

    Hi there 785434,
    (This is a generic SQL question relating to Database Triggers, please post future questions of this type into the relevant forum area.)
    Moderator, please move this if able
    I use Before Update and Before Delete Triggers to record a 'snapshot' of the row being changed in my applications.
    Example:
    CREATE TABLE TEST
    DATA VARCHAR2(64 CHAR),
    CREATING_USERID VARCHAR2(20 CHAR) DEFAULT user NOT NULL,
    CREATED_DATE DATE NOT NULL,
    CHANGED_BY_USERID VARCHAR2(20 CHAR),
    CHANGED_DATE DATE
    LOGGING
    STORAGE
    (MAXEXTENTS UNLIMITED);
    CREATE TABLE TEST_HISTORY
    DATA VARCHAR2(64 CHAR),
    CREATING_USERID VARCHAR2(20 CHAR) DEFAULT user NOT NULL,
    CREATED_DATE DATE NOT NULL,
    CHANGED_BY_USERID VARCHAR2(20 CHAR),
    CHANGED_DATE DATE,
    CHANGE_DESCRIPTION
    NOLOGGING
    STORAGE
    (MAXEXTENTS UNLIMITED);
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER TRG_BU_TEST
    BEFORE UPDATE ON TEST FOR EACH ROW
    BEGIN
    INSERT /*+ append */ INTO TEST_HISTORY
    (DATA, CREATING_USERID, CREATED_DATE, CHANGED_BY_USERID, CHANGED_DATE, CHANGE_DESCRIPTION)
    VALUES
    (:old.DATA, :old.CREATING_USERID, :old.CREATED_DATE, USER, SYSDATE, 'UPDATE');
    END;
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER TRG_BD_TEST
    BEFORE DELETE ON TEST FOR EACH ROW
    BEGIN
    INSERT /*+ append */ INTO TEST_HISTORY
    (DATA, CREATING_USERID, CREATED_DATE, CHANGED_BY_USERID, CHANGED_DATE, CHANGE_DESCRIPTION)
    VALUES
    (:old.DATA, :old.CREATING_USERID, :old.CREATED_DATE, USER, SYSDATE, 'DELETE');
    END;
    Using triggers like this will record who made an update or delete to the database and record the row before it was changed.
    Note that this method might not be suitable for very high transaction rates.
    You will need to 'clear' these history tables as part of routine maintenance.
    Hope that this Helps.
    Ronald.

  • Why i can't not create new database in oracle 10g express

    why i can't not create new database in oracle 10g express?
    should i use oracle 11g standard edition?
    thanks

    In Oracle a schema is what a 'database' is in Sqlserver.
    And if you would have been aware about the limitations of XE, you would have known you can only create *1* (one) database using Oracle XE.
    However, probably you don't need a new database at all, and a schema will suffice.

  • How do l create a new database in Oracle 10g Express

    How do l create a new database in Oracle 10g Express, other than the one that is created on installation?

    Hello,
    You cannot create a second XE database on the same server.
    But, Oracle database can support as many Schema as you want.
    "Oracle database" is like "SQL Server Instance" and "Oracle Schema" is like "SQL Server database". I means by this shortcut that for
    the end users accessing to different Schemas looks like accessing to different databases.
    You can have several applications on the same database. Each application has its own Schema and Datafile (Tablespace) structure.
    So on your XE database you can add a new Tablespace and create a new User/Schema as follows:
    sqlplus /nolog
    connect / as sysdba
    create tablespace {color:red}new_tablespace_name{color}
    extent management local autoallocate

  • How to create a new DataBase using Oracle 10g Express Edition???

    Hello, I am new to Oracle, I am used to Microsoft SQL Server (Enterprise Manager).
    Here in Oracle I do not get how do I create a DataBase, and then create tables on it.
    could anyone please explain to me how to do it?

    A SQL Server database is roughly equivalent to an Oracle schema.
    You should rarely need to create a new database. If you do need to create a database, get a 'for fee' edition of Oracle and use the dbca tool (Database Configuration Assistant) to do that. In fact, you are only allowed to have one XE database on the machine.
    However, you can create as many schemas in an existing Oracle database as you need. (One schema, owned by userid SYS, is roughly equal to your 'master catalog'.)
    You can create other schemas simply by
    1) creating a userid that will own the schema (one designated for maintenance of the schema);
    2) grant that userid appropriate privileges, such as 'CREATE TABLE', 'CREATE VIEW' as shown in the SQL Reference manual under the GRANT section;
    3) provide that userid with a quota in one or more tablespaces (see the CREATE USER command in the SQL Reference manual);
    4) create the objects, such as tabels, views, sequences, stored procs and functions, etc. (as in the SQL Reference manual);
    5) create the users who will access the objects, and grant them the CREATE SESSION capability (as in the SQL Reference manual);
    6) grant access (select, update, execute, etc.) on the schema objects to these users (as in the SQL Reference manual);
    7) if desired, create synonyms on the schema objects so the users do not need to use fully qualified syntax such as "SELECT col FROM schema.table;" (as in the SQL Reference manual).
    In case you are interested in looking at the SQL Reference manual, it can be found at http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=1 ;-)

  • How to create new database on Oracle 10g

    Hi All,
    Can any one tell me how to create new database on oracle 10g.
    Thanks in Advance for your help.

    again some confusion here.....
    u said u need a new database in your first post and now you saying u need a new schema..
    one database has many schemas(users)..... ex: scott,sys,system are few of them...
    now it depends you need seperate database for test,dev environment - this is in the case u have many schemas under each database and many tables(objects) under each schema.
    OR
    You just need a separate schema (in same db) for test,dev environment...where in you will have multiple tables in each schema...U need to know the dba credentials of the db to create a new schema.
    ideally u need to have different database...You can create one with out sys/system(oracle users) password as these passwords are db dependent.
    what you need is access to the any machine where server is installed(can be the same mc where you have your dev db or a diff machine) and that will be the machine where your db will be installed (can do it through database configuration assistance),ofcourse you will need windows authentication for this.
    so you login to the same machine or access it from your machine using remote login.
    I hope that is clear.Hope i am not listing things that you already know..Just did it coz of confusion between db and schema

  • New database connection failed with oepe

    Hi everybody,
    @http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E27086_02/help/oracle.eclipse.tools.common.doc/html/install.html#install_oepe
    Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse Installation Guide says:
    "You can install OEPE using any of the following ways:
    Download, and then unzip OEPE plugins directly into the Eclipse dropins folder and restart Eclipse."
    This is what I have done,
    then when I create a new database connection, and I press the button "test connection" i got a pop up saying "Ping failed" giving details:
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver

    Did I miss something?

    The documentation is out of date. The unzip to dropins method is no longer supported. The OEPE zip you downloaded is actually an archived repository. You can follow the instruction for installing using Eclipse Update Manager and point to the downloaded zip instead of the online repository.
    I will follow up to get the docs updated.

  • How to crate a new database

    I have installed the XE edition and the home page and all works. What I would like to do is create a simple database and have an application talk to it via OLEDB. Two problems with that:
    1) If you want to create a new database, the simplest option is to use the Database Configuration Assistance (DBCA). But that doesnt come with XE and you dont appear to be able to download it.
    Your next option is to use SQL statements. The manual contains some info but it states that your DBA will typically create the database using SQl scripts. It does give some snippets as to what you might do, but it is not complete and hence fails if you try it (bad docs!). I found a few other web pages that contain some commands, e,g this one:
    http://www.adp-gmbh.ch/ora/admin/creatingdbmanually.html
    which I am about to try next.
    Why is creating a new DB using Oracle so hard? Took me 10 min on MySQL and SQL Server. Surely for test purposes if you just want a simple database with default settings, it should be easy to create?
    2) Visual Studio 2003 lets you do a database connection test. So with Oracle XE installed, I did a connection test using "Microsfot OLE DB Provider for SQL Server" and I choose local host and give it my admin user name and password. It says "Test connection failed because of an error initializing provider. SQL Server does not exist or access denied". I also installed ODAC101040 which is supposed to install the Oracle OLEDB driver. So if I try and do a connection test for the "Oracle Provider for OLE DB". Just selecting it gives you "OraOLEDBplus10.dll - The specific module could not be found". So what does ODAC101040 install really then?
    Any ideas?

    I will take the first part of this (BTW - it's often better to have seperate threads for seperate questions - makes it easier to track).
    The concept of a database in SQLServer and MySQL is different than the concept of a database in Oracle. In Oracle, we use the concept of a schema to seperate logical objects in a name space, SQLServer and MySQL use a database. We also then use the concept of a tablespace to seperate how physical objects are stored, as opposed to how a database is used in SQLServer and MySQL.
    In XE, you can have as many schemas and tablespaces as you want. So instead of looking at CREATE DATABASE (which is really complicated, and not really doing what you think it is doing), you should be instead be considering CREATE USER (creates a schema in which you can then create database objects) and CREATE TABLESPACE (creates a physical storage location). Having said that, XE defaults the physical storage locations to a generic tablespace called USERS, as an aid to simplicity, but you can create your own tablespaces if you wish.
    CREATE USER is docced in the 2 DAY DBA guide for XE. CREATE TABLESPACE is in the Oracle Database 10g Release 2 doc - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_7003.htm#SQLRF01403
    So the question really is - what is if that you are wanting to do when you are trying to create a database in Oracle ? What is the problem you are trying to solve ?

  • Forms installation problem - how do I create a new default Oracle home?

    I am new to Oracle so please forgive my utter ignorance. My impression of Oracle because of how an installation
    has to be done is taking a nosedive. I thought Microsoft was bad with all the re-booting but the explanation that I
    read in Anubhav Seth's post about installing Dev 6i before 8i and the suggestion (not a requirement) to format the
    harddisk and reinstall Windows just leaves me with my jaw hanging open. I'm having a little trouble swallowing that
    one.
    Here's my situation... I'm running 8i at home and I am using it for the Oracle courses that I am taking at a local
    university. So 8i with its SQL*Plus has been all I have needed to date. Now we have a project to do that involves forms.
    So I go to the OTN page for downloads and downloaded file 6irel2nt.exe which is 264 MB in size. This file, I assume,
    has forms in it -- what else I don't know because things are not explained all that well on the web site or I don't know
    where to look (which implies poor organization of the web pages).
    I run the 6irel2nt.exe file and end up with 11,128 new files on my computer. That's nice. I run the setup file and a step or
    two into it it complains that my 'Ora81' home is already being used and that I need to install it into another Oracle Home.
    Now I'm trying to find out how I create another Oracle Home. I perform a search in GOOGLE on "creat default Oracle
    home" and basically get nowhere. My $50+ "Oracle 8i A Beginner's Guide" from Oracle Press mentions Oracle Home
    on one page (pg. 170) but is completely useless in this case. My $184 worth of Oracle University manuals (which
    are really PowerPoint slides) is useless too. My next step will be to comb through the FAQs. All this because I cannot
    believe that I have to totally uninstall one product to get another to install and then reinstall the first one. That is INSANE!
    If I have gone way off track please feel free to blast me but if this is true then all I can say is that the folks at Oracle need
    a lesson in KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)! Computers and computer software are supposed to make our lives simpler
    not complicate the holy hell out of them. I'll get off my soapbox now. Sorry about the whining.

    I ended up uninstalling 8i and then I installed Dev 6i (Forms) and then I reinstalled 8i. I had some problems
    installing Dev 6i because of this error "path.vrf(86): Unbound variable 'path_too_long_prompt'". Right after this error
    appears I get a dialog that states, "The Oracle Installer cannot update the system path variable to %new_path%
    because it is too long. Please restrict your system path to 127 characters and make sure D:\Oracle\OraWin95\bin
    is included in your path."
    The path D:\Oracle\OraWin95 was what I set up for this installation.
    What I did to work around this problem was this...
    (1) Go to Start - Accessories - System Tools - System Information.
    (2) Click on the Tools menu
    (3) Select System Configuration Utility
    (4) Select the Autoexec.bat tab
    (5) I added D:\Oracle\OraWin95\bin to my PATH variable and unchecked the checkbox next to one of the several
    lines that I have that build my PATH variable. (I have several PATH lines that simply add a path to the system
    variable %path%). After the installation is complete you can go back and turn back on the paths that you had disabled.
    After installing 8i I did have a problem connecting to the database. I got this error:
    Error: ORA-01034 Oracle not available
    I believe this happened because I had forgotten to turn back on some of my PATH information that I mentioned
    earlier. After checking one of my PATH variables and rebooting, this problem disappeared.
    When reinstalling 8i and when the installation asks for an SID and you enter the SID you had used in the original
    installation you may get a notice that says the SID already exists. I think this happens because the uninstall does not
    clean up the registry totally, so I entered a different one. Later on, after the installation has been completed and you
    are connecting to your database, you will be prompted to select an SID -- just make sure that you select the SID from
    the latest installation.
    I should've mentioned first that in preparing for this whole ridiculous exercise I created a directory under my Oracle
    directory that I was going to use as the new 'Oracle home.' So I guess that's all one has to do to create a new Oracle
    home -- just have another directory ready to install 'stuff' into.
    All in all, this a pretty asinine exercise. Oracle really needs to fix this mess. I honestly thought Microsoft was bad but
    this takes the cake. I wonder if SQL Server is this screwed up.
