Dell Vostro V13 wireless card issue

Hello. First of all sorry for posting this, because I'm quite sure that it has been asked before. For some weird reason, everytime I use the forum search engine, I get an 500 error.
I'm having troubles to configure my wireless card on my Dell Vostro V13. The wireless card is present on the interfaces list, but I can't put it up.
I installed wicd following wiki steps, but without any luck.
iwconfig wlan0:

I read the wiki entrance for Broadcom Wireless cards, but I'm not sure whether I must use broadcom-wl driver or not.
Any thoughts?
Thank you and sorry for my lousy English :X

Assuming you're using the kernel b43 driver... did you install the firmware? There's a b43-firmware package in AUR.
If that won't work, then the wl driver is an alternative.
Gusar,
The wiki says "brcm80211
The brcm80211 driver is included in the kernel since 2.6.37. No further action is necessary on the part of the user."
...so I didn't installed anything besides wicd.

  • Fujitsu Amlio Li 2735 Wireless card issues

    Hello,
I have a laptop that I want to run Arch Linux but I have a issue that I do run into with many Linux distros, not just Arch in particular. The issue is that Fujitsu have made it that my wireless card does not automatically start on boot and it does not have a physical switch on the laptop, what you have to do (For windows at least) is have a application installed that allows you to enable the card. Now this software is only avalible on Windows, not Linux but, Ubuntu and Debian based distros seem to be able to automatically enable the card on boot. This does not happen however in other distros like CentOs.
So I know that it is possible to get the drivers working under linux but I have no idea how to get them working in Arch and preferably in the live cd install although, I can install the base system through other means but I would like to use the internal card.
From lspci | grep -i net it is identified as:
    Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x / AR542x Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 04)
    And from iwconfig
    wlp8s0      IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:off/any
Mode: Managed Access Point: Not-Associated   Tx-Power=off
                    Retry    long limit:7  RTS thr:off   FragmentL thr:off
                    Encryption key:off
                    Power Management:off
ip link set wlp8s0 up does nothing and dmesg | grep firmware produces no output.
(I do know there is a hardware 'modification' that you can perform to break contact with one of the pins on the wireless card but I would rather leave that as a last resort)
Any help is appreciated and I hope you can solve my issue.

The easiest way to figure it out is to boot a Ubuntu live cd, and check dmesg for what is enabling your wireless card, then check the configurations associated with that event and translate them to your arch setup.
Edit:  You might want to also run "rfkill list" and see if it really is a hard lock that is preventing the card from working.
The card seems to have a soft lock on it.
I did today somehow manage to get the card to work on Arch but I am not 100% how or why is started enabled, I'm guessing it was somehow enabled from this morning when I used a liveUSB LMDE.
Anyway, this is the dmesg I get under that live USB:

    EDIT:
Regarding the softblock, I spent the last hour or two trying to get it working and found I could just run: rfkill unblock 0
Excuse my Linux noobines, I don't usually spend a lot of time getting my wifi working via CLI.
But on a final note, it there a way to get this to work on start up? Via bash scripts of similar?

  • T540p Thinkpad Wireless card issue

    Hi all,
My T540p just arrived and I promptly installed arch linux on it. To my surprise, the wireless card is not detected. I look up the specs on the lenovo site and it is just branded as "Thinkpad 2x2 wireless card", looking at hwinfo it turns out it is really a Realtek RTL8192EE card, and upon looking at reviews on the net for this particular card, it seems that even in windows there are issues making it work consistently. There are no drivers provided by Realtek nor Thinkpad, only the 8192E, CU and SE series are out. After calling support for a couple of days (my warranty did not showed up in their database) I was told there is nothing they can do given the machine was shipped with windows 8. This situation is really dissapointing to me given the past Thinkpad models are great on linux. If you are considering buying this machine, just go with the intel card. If any of you have been on the same boat, is there anything else I could do besides havng to buy the card out of pocket to make this work?

If you just got it, you could probably return it and order one in a different configuration.
I, too, recommend getting the Intel card where possible.  It just seems Intel has fewer support issues than other wireless cards.
For what it's worth, with some patience it's not horribly difficult to replace the card.  I had to replace a fan on a Thinkpad X-series and in the process learned about replacing the wireless card.  If you follow Lenovo's manual (free) and go slow, it's not complex.
    Best of luck

  • Lenovo C200 All in One Wireless card issues

I have a brand new Lenovo C200 Atom DC 2 All In One PC (Desktop). I seem to have a problem with the wireless adaptor which is a Atheros AR9285. When I first power up the PC it connects to my router and gets internet speeds of around 5MB per sec, after a few minutes it spows down to around 120kb per sec! I called Lenovo support and after holding for 50 mins to get through I was told that I needed to contact my internet service provider who would be able to change the channel on the PC and improve things!
I have seven other PC's connected to my router and none of them have any problem. Also I cant transfer files from my central storage drive with the Lenovo because the connection times out because it is so slow. I am convinced it is a problem with the wireless card, there is nothing else that could possibly cause this that I can see. Also this is the 2nd Lenovo with the same fault, I sent the original one back and this is a replacement.
Technical support are supposed to be calling me back tomorrow but I dont hold out much hope with them after they told me to speak to my internet service provider.
Has anyone got any ideas what I could do to cure the issue?
    Any help appreciated.

OK after many hours of searching I found the problem, the issue isn't exactly with the Lenovo although you would expect them to supply a wireless card that is compatible with Windows 7!
The issue is with the Atheros AR9285 wireless card, if you Google the Atheros card you will find numerous posts where people have had issues with this, there isn't any one straightforward fix, it seems dependent on what router you are using and how you have things set up.
I played around with my router settings and the settings on the Lenovo and finally found a configuration that worked for me, the Lenovo dosent like some channels on the router but does others, if anyone else gets this I would recommend changing the router setting from auto channel select to one channel between 1 and 11 to find one that works best. That seemed to fix
    mine.
Thanks a bunch Lenovo support, call my internet service provider, yeh right! Also when you keep people waiting on hold for 50 mins before answering a simple "I'm sorry to have kept you waiting" would be nice not an argument with your CS rep saying "You haven't been on hold for that long".
Anyone with the most basic knowledge should know that if files can not be transferred from a central drive by the wireless card its nothing to do with the internet service provider!

  • Late 2009 iMac Wireless Card Issues

I own a late 2009 iMac. I have been having issues with my wireless card for several years now and have been able to make do with our router being in the same room with our computer. We moved recently and now my iMac is not in the same room as the wireless router. Can some please help me fix or confirm if I need a new wireless card?
My computer shows that there is a wireless card, but the card does not see any networks. I have (on occasion) gotten the card to see the other networks available around us (as well as my own) and to even get it to hook up, but it is short lived. Sometimes the computer locks up altogether.
Can someone help me determine if this is fixable or if I need to replace the card? If I have to replace the card can I purchase one from Apple and do the install myself?
    Thanks!
    Mike

    BDAqua,
Sorry, did not even realise that I had not updated the list. I am running the latest version on the iMac which is 10.7.5.... And you could copy and paste the link into your browser...
    Cheers for the response bud...

  • Airport Wireless Card Issues

On my MacBook Pro 13 inch I notice freezing that in safari or firefox the browsers freeze after five minutes. I'm connected to my wireless router at home with full signal, yet after five minutes of being connected I can not browse the web, the browser freezes. In order for me to reconnect to the web and continue browsing, I have to disable and then re enable the Airport Wireless Card. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you have not installed the internal antenna correctly.

  • Dell Inspiron 530 Graphics Card Issues

    Hello Guys,
I recently received a EVGA SC GTX 750 Ti from a friend and decided I would install it in my Inspiron 530. Here is what happens when I disable my integrated graphics using device manager (Windows 7 Ultimate) and plug in VGA through card: The screen starts, and the dell splash screen loads (BIOS) but then the screen goes black and then the system beeps once.
I proceeded to believe the card was DOA, I tested it in a friend's Inspiron 570 with the same PSU and it booted into Windows.
This tells me that my PC has adequate power and the card is not DOA.
The only difference is that his PC is PCI 2.0 while mine is the primitive Gen 1.0.
This shouldn't be a difference however, because they are all backwards compatible. So could this be a BIOS issue or what?
    Please give your suggestions.
    Thanks

I am running an Inspiron 530 with an Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB DDR5 graphics card. No problems at all here The card works great, I am very pleased. I would recommend upgrading the power supply to at least 400w for the card. The Corsair PS that I am using works very well, and is modular.
You say you are running Core 2 Quad, so I am guessing you have the 03 motherboard, and not the 02 that I have. My board only accepts a Core 2 Duo. I am running a Core 2 e8500 3.3Ghz.
How much RAM do you have? I would recommend 8GB of good RAM for the 530. I have 8GB Corsair RAM and it works very good, even for DDR2.
    I recommend the following:
    1. Unplug the graphics card and all other cards from the motherboard.
    2. Update to the latest BIOS for your motherboard. Revert back to factory BIOS settings after you update, and tweak your BIOS from there to make sure everything is configured properly to use a graphics card.
    3. Plug the card in and try again. Upgrade to the latest Nvidia drivers.
    4. Try the card on a different computer. The card may be your problem.
Post feedback of what you do.

  • Can't load Synaptics drivers in Dell Vostro V13

Hello. I've spent most of the afternoon trying to make my touchpad work as intended, but without any luck. The touchpad works, but without scrolling (of any kind) and I can't disable it with syndaemon, because it complains that there's no synaptic device available.
I did install the synaptic drivers. pacman -Qs synaptic output:
    local/xf86-input-synaptics 1.2.1-1 (xorg-input-drivers)
    synaptics driver for notebook touchpads
I tried both methods available in the wiki (xorg and hal), but none worked for me. This is the output of some (I hope) relevant commands:

  • T61 Wireless Connectivity Issue - can not connect with secure wireless sites

I have a T61 using Windows XP. The internal wireless card was factory installed and has not been upgraded.
My home Internet is Comcast high-speed.
When I take my laptop to a coffee shop, business or other location with a secure wireless network that requires a password, I have not been able to log on. I can see the wireless networks available and can click on the appropriate one, but I never get a window/pop-up box/screen in order to allow me to enter the wifi network's user name and password.
Is this a firewall issue, wireless card issue...or?
I can access unsecured wireless networks where a password is not needed.

    Hi lisapapp!
One more thing to check: Is your Windows XP up to date? Older XP releases do not support the newer wireless encryption types which are now in common use (WPA, WPA2). Make sure you have SP3.
    I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

  • Connectivity Issues WRT54G router and 2915ABG Dell wireless card

My wife and I both have Dell Inspiron 600m laptops with nearly the same setup: XP Pro, 2915ABG wireless cards, and the wireless connection is controlled through ProSet Wireless. We have Comcast and connect to a WRT54G wireless router. The router has WPA enabled, MAC address filtering, and the latest Firmware.
I have no trouble connecting to or remaining connected to the router. Her machine connects to the wireless, but randomly loses connection (sometimes it's connected for hours and other times it losses connection in the first five minutes). When I watch the ProSet wireless event viewer, it only says "link down."
To attempt to fix this problem, I have:
played with the router's settings including changing channels
    updated her drivers
allowed windows to control the wireless card
    reset the router
    updated the router's firmware
None of these actions have fixed the problem. The only real differences between the two machines is that I did the following to mine:
My machine was the one that initially set up the wireless router
I used the Comcast install CD on my machine (then deleted all the *junk* that was installed by the CD).
I would like to avoid using the Comcast install CD on her machine because no one needs the extra junk they install. I did set up her machine according to the internet on how to set up Comcast without the CD.
I am trying to figure out if the problem is with the router or with her hardware. Thank you,
    Michael

Try upgrading the firmware on the router.

Keep the channel on 11 and than give it a try !

  • Best practice for home setup/Roaming with built-in Dell wireless card?

I have a client with a huge house; I have done a site survey and it will require 3 APs to blanket the entire thing. I am wonderig what the best way to set this up for him would be? He would like to be able to walk around with the house and not lose connectivity. He is attempting to use his built-in Dell wireless card/client. As far as I know, these do not support Cisco roaming. What I have done is setup 3 diffrent SSIDs for each part of the house. Depending on his location he manually connects to the correct AP. Is this the best setup?
I had attempted to set all APs with the same SSIDs but found that the client would not roam and also found it difficult to connect to any of the APs at all. I believe the card was getting confused since there was overlap of the same SSID.

If he has a huge house, I don't think his laptop would be that old and also, the Dell's use the Intel wifi cards. Having all 3 ap's setup for the same SSID is what you should do and don't know why you are having so many issues. I would assume the ap's are on channel 1, 6, and 11 and how is the power setting? Do all these ap's run back to the same switch?

above card are having issue with WPA2 enabled ssid connecitivity. strange is , the same users are getting connected to other wep enabled SSID but its not working for WPA2 SSID.
I have external ACS server which is used for radius authentication. Last time I had put same query in support forum did some workaround.
eq. disabling DHCP proxy option in WLC and moving all DHCP scope in external server.
After doing this workaround this mentioned users are still facing issue. I gone through some cisco document and some forums and came across that there is something to be done in " Session Timed Out "  optionin WLC
which is default 1800 sec based on that I tried to capture debug outputs for mentioned above problematic clients and user who is working fine .
I gone through the same debug output  and observed :
User who is working fine :
    Processing Access-Accept for mobile 00:22:5f:8d:55:84
00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx Setting re-auth timeout to 1800 seconds, got from WLAN config.
    00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx Station 00:22:5f:8d:55:84 setting dot1x reauth timeout = 1800
00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx Creating a PKC PMKID Cache entry for station 00:22:5f:8d:55:84 (RSN 2)
00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx Adding BSSID 00:1f:ca:2c:f3:01 to PMKID cache for station 00:22:5f:8d:55:84
    New PMKID: (16)
The User /  card which is having issue :
    Processing Access-Accept for mobile 00:22:5f:90:a2:ac
00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx Setting re-auth timeout to 0 seconds, got from WLAN config.
    00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx Station 00:22:5f:90:a2:ac setting dot1x reauth timeout = 0

00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx Adding BSSID 00:26:cb:1d:fe:31 to PMKID cache for station 00:22:5f:90:a2:ac

Please suggest me to do workaround.

  • Elementary question: need wireless card for old Dell

Hi, all: I need to buy a wireless card for my several-years-old Dell Precision 340 desktop, so that I can network it with my MacBook Pro and printer using AirPort Express. Can buy any old USB network adapter card branded "universal"? Any recommendations? There is no built-in wireless card. Also, I understand that I will have to reconfigure the AirPort somehow to handle both PC and Mac (I spent a long time on the phone with Support getting to work in the first place, just with the Mac notebook).
    Thanks for any advice!

Hello jonnofor. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Can buy any old USB network adapter card branded "universal"? Any recommendations? There is no built-in wireless card.
Just about any 802.11b/g wireless device will work with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX). The AX is capable of up to WPA2 wireless encryption, so if this is important to you, you would want a device that is WPA or WPA2 capable as well. In addition to USB-style, the Precision 340 can also take PCI-cards. For example, Linksys offers both a USB & PCI types.
Also, I understand that I will have to reconfigure the AirPort somehow to handle both PC and Mac
There shouldn't be any required configuration changes necessary for the AX just to support both Macs and PCs. Most issues that come into play relate to using WEP for wireless encryption. You can eliminate this by using WPA or WPA2 instead.

  • Upgrading Graphics card and Power supply in Dell vostro 460 mini tower

I have a dell vostro 460 with i5-2400 3.4 Ghz,12GB DDR3 RAM,350W stock PSU and msi Radeon HD 7750 gpu.I want to upgrade my GPU to Asus strix gtx 960 4GB version or maybe gtx 970 if it fits. For that i need to upgrade my PSU.So I have choosen Corsair GS 600 psu(600W),so will it fit in my mini tower. And also will a gtx 970 fit in my pc after upgrading my psu.if not then what about gtx 960 4GB variant.I am really cofused.I dont want to buy if I won't be able to use it.Pls clearify my doubts.

Plug in No post No nothing OR  Plug in Post , Install Drivers, Reboot,  Nothing Black Screen. There is a 6792 post thread on them not working in XPS 8700's. Any Standard EPS12v Power supply like the corsair CS750M will fit in your case.
You can test the not working theory by calling up a vendor that sells the 900 series cards and tell them you have a vostro 460 and that when you install the driver and reboot its a black screen.
Then tell them you want an RMA for a non working card and see how they dance around not giving you your money back.
The EPS12V spec 2.92 guarantees 170w combined on the 5V/3.3V rails and 20W on the 5VSB as well as 45 amps on a Single 12V rail.

  • Dell Inspiron 1525 wireless issues.

After much frustration with the slowness on Vista, I decided to install Arch on my laptop  (Dell Inspiron 1525)
I've been running Arch on my Desktop for about a year now and it's been a while since I've done a fresh install.
The problem is getting my wireless card to operate.
I've tried the wiki and the web and haven't had great results.
my wireless card is a Broadcom BCM4310.  I first tried the b43 driver, but it doesn't support the 4310 (it does support the 4309 and 4311.  I guess mine got skipped )
anyways, I then tried the ndiswrapper around the bcmwl5 driver.  I followed the wiki to the letter to get this driver installed, but I am still not showing any wireless devices.
ifconfig -a shows my eth0 and lo.
ifconfig wlan0 up does nothing either.
    I'm stumped.
    any ideas?
