Deploy to multiple similar servers

Hi,
I am evaluating usefulness of Release Management for my organization and I have one scenario which I find troublesome doing in Release Management (update 3).
I have tens of components and I have around 30+ servers at each stage (4 stages). In general in release process I want to deploy a component to a single server but from time to time I would like to deploy it to all servers at given stage.
As far as I understand I need separate Release Template for each component to deploy it to specific server (that's ok for me) and another one to deploy it to all servers. In this second one, I will need to specify each server and actions for it separately
which seems to be maintenance hell.
What I am looking for, is a way to simplify this second Release Template to accept deployment to a set of servers conforming some rules (i.e. naming or supported technologies). Or maybe I should setup things differently in Release Management?
Thanks for help,
Michał

Hi Michal,
Thanks for your post.
If you want to deploy to multiple servers in one Stage, please try the below steps:
In one of your current Environment, linked multiple servers in it.
Specify this Environment in your release path’s one Stage(stage1).
In your release template>> state1, please add other Sequence activities(under Toolbox>>Control Flow) in the Deployment Sequence, then you can drag the different servers from Toolbox into each Sequence activity separately, each Sequence can perform
the separate deployment.

  • Is it possible to deploy SharePoint or its Service Applications on: multiple DB-Servers and multiple SQL Instances?

    Hello Forum,
    We have a SharePoint 2013 farm (Enterprise edition) that uses one single SQL Server 2012 (Standard edition). That statement means: All my SharePoint DBs e.g. (Config, Admin, Content, and Service Apps) DBs are hosted and running onto one single instance e.g.
    Server1\SQLInstance1.
    We have some new requirements to install and configure BI tools such as: PerformancePoint services and PowerPivot. BI tools require either SQL Server 2012 Enterprise or BI editions, and we do NOT want to upgrade our current SQL Server1\SQLInstance1
    Instead, We have other separate SQL Server instance which is enterprise edition let's name it (ServerX\InstanceX) that is running standalone, and we are thinking or using it, and my 2 questions are:
    1) Can we use this other separate
    SQL Server instance which is enterprise edition to host the create and hosts the DBs of PerformancePoint services and PowerPivot ?
    2) My second question is the same: Can I create PerformancePoint services application in my SharePoint farm, But in the Database Server field, I fill up
    the details of the other DB server ServerX\InstanceX  which is the one that is SQL
    enterprise edition ? Will this work ?
    Any official Microsoft resources/links tell that it is possible to deploy SharePoint or its service applications on multiple DB-Servers and multiple SQL Instances?

    Thank you Alex and Anil,
    What are the ramifications of that?
    I mean, Assuming that I have created such a farm where most of SarePoint DBs in Standard SQL instance while the PerformancePoint service application and others e.g. PowerPivot and reporting service are deployed and configured onto other Enterprise SQL instance.
    Are there any recommendations or concerns that you would like to draw my attention to ?

  • Multiple Gateways servers - any issues?

    I am being asked to monitor multiple untrusted domains through gateway servers. We already have one gateway server setup, are there any issues I should beware of when setting up a second or third one for different domains? Do they all talk back through
    port 5723 happliy without any contention?

    Not really - the individual servers can become the bottle-neck should there be a large number of agents reporting to them but this would be for relatively large deployments. But in terms of contention you shouldn't have any problems, there's a good article
    here which has details of the process (similar content
    here as well) .
    I'd also take a look at the SCOM sizing tool as this will give you some details on server spec, etc
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/momteam/archive/2012/04/02/operations-manager-2012-sizing-helper-tool.aspx
    Extract from the SCOM2012 deployment guide:
    "Gateway servers are used to enable agent-management of computers that are outside the Kerberos trust boundary of management groups, such as in a domain that is not trusted. The gateway server acts as a concentration point for agent-to-management server
    communication. Agents in domains that are not trusted communicate with the gateway server and the gateway server communicates with one or more management servers. Because communication between the gateway server and
    the management servers occurs over only one port (TCP 5723), that port is the only one that has to be opened on any intervening firewalls to enable management of multiple agent-managed computers. Multiple gateway servers can be placed in a single domain so
    that the agents can failover from one to the other if they lose communication with one of the gateway servers. Similarly, a single gateway server can be configured to failover between management servers so that no single point of failure exists in the
    communication chain.
    Because the gateway server resides in a domain that is not trusted by the domain that the management group is in, certificates must be used to establish each computer's identity, agent, gateway server, and management server. This arrangement satisfies
    the requirement of Operations Manager for mutual authentication."

  • How to configure multiple report servers in Oracle 10 G R2?

    I want to configure multiple report servers with my application deployed on Oracle 10G R2. Since R2 does not support report server clustering, how can this be achieved without any change in the application?
    Currently, the application is running with single report server.

    Hi Martin,
    Well we are trying to run a report without exactly specifying the name of reports server anywhere, e.g. in database or in form or anywhere else. Now if I do not supply a reports server name using RUN_REPORT_OBJECT, the error it displays is FRM-41211: Integration Error : SSL failure ... However if I specify the reports server name in the form, the reports run perfect. Also the name of reports server is specified in rwservlet.properties.
    Now the question goes as follows:
    Can I run my report from Form without specifying the name of the Reports server anywhere at all. This is so because either an in-process reports server should be picked or the one which is entered in rwservlet.properties should be pickec up by default. Please correct us if we are wrong. once we are through with it, we have to move to Oracle 10gR2 concept of reports server.
    Thanks in anticipation,
    Ruchi/Saurabh

  • Multi Seat Mode - Multiple X Servers on 1 Machine

    I need to configure a SunBlade 2000 configured with an XVR1000 graphics board to be used by 2 people simultaneously with the own keyb & mouse.
    To summarize :
    1 Sun Blade 2000
    1 Xvr1000
    First Port connected to one monitor /dev/fbs/gfb0a
    Second Port Connected to a second monitor /dev/fbs/gfb0b
    2 Keyb & 2 mouse connected to the 4 USB ports
    The 2 monitors must be handled by to istances of X server (2 dtlogin prompt) so the 2 people can work
    indipendently.
    I tried the following procedure with NO success.
    Does anybody can help me ?
    Thanks in advance

    =============================================================================
    In recent versions of Solaris, the Xsun keyboard & mouse DDX modules
    have been extended to support multiple keyboards and mice on Solaris.
    The Xorg server on Solaris x86 has similarly been extended to support
    multiple mice, but not yet multiple keyboards.
    Unfortunately, this is not a very well documented feature, though it is
    supported - but you must pay close attention to the configuration
    instructions and Limitations described below.
    There are currently two choices for configuring X on a machine with
    multiple input devices:
    * One X server with the extra devices available via the X Input
    extension (commonly used for accessibility helper programs, or for x86
    laptop users)
    * Multiple X servers, each with its own set of input & output
    devices ("multi-seat" mode)
    The two methods can be mixed on a single machine - when configuring you
    simply need to determine which X server each device is going to be
    associated with.
    Requirements
    * Solaris 9 FCS or later (SPARC or x86)
    * USB-capable machine
    * For Solaris 9, USB patch 115338-01 (sparc)/115339-01 (x86) or
    newer. For Solaris 10, s10_17 or newer.
    Limitations
    Due to the nature of USB and Sun's implementation, USB devices may get
    different numbers when initialized or hot-plugged in a different order.
    A partial solution is to use the full path name under the /devices
    hierarchy - this is tied to the physical port a device is plugged into,
    so the order is no longer a problem, but devices must always be plugged
    into the same port this way.
    Xsun Configuration
    The following sections may be added to either
    /etc/openwin/server/etc/OWconfig or /usr/openwin/server/etc/OWconfig.
    Xsun reads both when starting up and merges their contents.
    * 1. Run ls -l /dev/usb/hid* to see what the existing device names are.
    * 2. Attach the additional input devices to the machine
    * 3. ls -l /dev/usb/hid* to see what the newly attached device names
    are. Note at the end of each symlink line it will list whether it is a
    keyboard or a mouse.
    * 4. Add lines of the following form to OWconfig, one for each
    device, and each with a unique name beginning with "IMOUSE" or "IKBD":
    # sun Keyboard module
    class="XINPUT" name="IKBD2"
    dev="/dev/usb/hid2" strmod="usbkbm"
    ddxHandler="ddxSUNWkbd.so.1"
    ddxInitFunc="ddxSUNWkbdProc";
    # sun Mouse module
    class="XINPUT" name="IMOUSE2"
    dev="/dev/usb/hid3" strmod="usbms"
    ddxHandler="ddxSUNWmouse.so.1"
    ddxInitFunc="ddxSUNWmouseProc";
    * 5. To configure multiseat mode, add a section to OWconfig to
    associate each keyboard, mouse, and frame buffer with a specific display
    (in this case ":1"):
    class="XDISPLAY" name="1"
    coreKeyboard="IKBD2" corePointer="IMOUSE2"
    dev0="/dev/fb1";
    * 6. Test your configuration. For multiseat mode, run an Xserver on
    the display you listed (xinit :1 or add a line for :1 to
    /etc/dt/config/Xservers ). For use with the X input extension, restart X
    and run xinputdev -l (source code here) to list the devices the server
    sees. You can also run xinputdev -k & xinputdev -m to switch your core
    keyboard and mouse to the specified devices.

    The report gets called via the rwservlet (hope that answers your question correctly)
    The application is in OAS.
    The separation i require is both in the database and the reports themselves.
    For example let's say i have devapp and testapp - both the exact same app. But they both need to access reports under the same key, but the report needs to get its info from its respective dev and test databases. The key is hardcoded so can't change.
    If i understand correctly (a big "if"), the cgicmd.dat file tells wich report to grab and which database to connect to based on the key. Is there a way to have separate key map files (cgicmd.dat) called by separate applications? So that devapp will get Report1 using devdatabase, where testapp wil get Report1 using testdatabase?
    It may not be possible to do this kind of server consolidation, I just need to know one way or another for sure - and if it is possible, how to proceed.

  • User Account Authentication across multiple Solaris servers - Best Practice

    Hi,
    I am new to Solaris admin and would like to know the best practice/setup for authenticating user accounts across multiple solaris servers.
    Currently we have 20 - 30 Solaris 8 & 10 servers which each have their own user accounts setup. I am planning to replace these with a similar number of Solaris 10 servers and would like to centralise the user accounts and their authentication.
    I would be grateful for any suggestions on the best setup and any links to tutorials.
    Thanks
    Jools

    i would suggest LDAP + kerberos, LDAP for name lookups and krb5 for auth. provides secure auth + extensable directory for users and other apps if needed. plus, it provides a decent spring board to add other unix plats into the mix since this will support any unix/linux/bsd plat. you could integrate this design with a windows AD env if you want as well.
    [http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/features/articles/kerberos_s10.jsp] sol + ldap+ AD
    [http://docs.lucidinteractive.ca/index.php/Solaris_LDAP_client_with_OpenLDAP_server] sol + ldap (openldap)
    [http://aput.net/~jheiss/krbldap/howto.html] sol + ldap + krb5
    now these links are all using some diff means, however they should give you some ideas as to whats out there. sol 10 comes with suns ldap server and you can use the krb5 server which comes with it as well. many many diff ways to do this. many many more links out there as welll. these are just a few.

  • SharePoint writer metadata information in a SharePoint farm with multiple WFE servers.

    I  am working on Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) framework. I know that in a 3-Tier SharePoint environment the SharePoint writer metadata on WFE server gives all the information related to that farm.
    My question is -
    a) How would i get all the information related to the SharePoint farm from the SharePoint writer metadata in an environment where multiple WFE servers are configured?
    b) Is it possible that in a SharePoint farm where multiple WFE servers are deployed, SP writer of only one WFE server (Master/Main server) contains all the information about the respective SP farm servers in its metadata?

    Hi  Aaditya,
    All Writer Metadata is stored in Writer Metadata Document which is produced by writer. The backup application uses the  Writer Metadata document to get information about that writer, the data it owns,
    and how to restore that data. Once the writer produces it, the Writer Metadata Document is a read-only document to the backup application.
    The Writer Metadata Document contains three sets of data: writer identification and classification information, writer-level specifications, and component data.
    For getting Writer Metadata, you can use
    IVssBackupComponents::GetWriterMetadata method.

  • BSPs configuration with multiple apps servers

    Hi Masters,
    This is regrarding configure ICM and BSPs on our production box with multiple application servers.
    We have our production box in a cluster environment.
    The central instance is dbciSAP and apps servers are sapaps2 thru sapaps6. The database is on shared disks. Whenever the central instance fails sapaps2 takes the control and become as dbciSAP but the main dbciSAP never become a application server when ever sapaps2 acts as dbciSAP. Since we have configured load balancing concept in production environment the users can login to system thru any application server. This is waht our environment.
    As part of our production box to SAP 4.7 upgrade from 4.6C, we are asked to configure the environment to deploy BSPs. We have successfully configured and deployed the BSPs in our DEV and QAS system  (Both are central instances with no application servers) except production box which is due in the next month.
    The process we follow to activate BSPs is as follows:
    1.Define an ICM service port in /etc/services file.
    2.Add the ICM related parameters in instance profiles.
    3.Make sure the ICM status is active in SMICM tx.
    4.Activate the BSP services in SICF as per OSS note 571484.
    Now, the question is how to configure the same ICM service and activate the BSPs since we have multiple multiple application servers.
    Subsequently What I am enquirying is:
    Do I need to define ICM service ports on each and every hosts where the application servers are running?
    Do I need to make changes to each and every instance profile of the application server?
    What are the differences in configuring ICM services on central instance and application instances?
    Appreciate any help in this regard.
    Thanks and Regards
    Murty Patchipala

    Grasshopper,
    I think what you should really read up on is the SAP WebDispatcher.  If are serious about running BSP/ICM across multiple app servers, this is the key technology:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/42/5cfd3b0e59774ee10000000a114084/frameset.htm  This may also answer some of your questions about profile parameters.
    Other than that I can share what we did.  We did activate the ICM and services on all app servers and central instance.  The service ports of the individual servers aren't that important now because of the WebDispatcher (at least they aren't visible to the user).
    Yes we did make some of the ICM profile changes in each instance profile.  If your settings are the same, consider using the default profile.   Are their particular settings you are interested?  I will look over ours, but I don't remember any huge differences from APP server to Central Instance.

  • Session cleanup issue with multiple Application servers

    Hi ,
    I am facing a strange problem with multiple application servers. The java Webdynro session does not get cleaned up completely when user closes the browser ( without using logoff ). On re-login it gets handle of old session and then fails for consecutive view on other webdynpro iviews with an invalid session error. It again starts working with a refresh event.
    Any ideas/suggestion if you have seen something similar before ?
    Thanks and regards,
    Amit.

    Hi Amit
    It seems that issues is not server related, but caused by your client browser. I know, for example, that IE8.0 keeps user session even if two separate browser instances opened on the same client machine. IE 7.0 and lower behave differently - they are separate user sessions per browser instance.

  • Alpine: multiple SMTP Servers & Trash folder

    Hi,
    I want to use multiple smtp servers in alpine. I've set a main server via Setup->Configuration (see below) and added another imap Server via Setup->collectionLists. So reading mail is no problem, I can see the different servers / folders in the "Folder List" view (the added dots or slashes after the folder names are a minor problem...).
    In order to send mail via the second server, I've added a rule via Setup->Rules->Roles, so when sending a message, the right smtp server corresponding to the folder where I'm in is chosen.
    BUT alpine always postpones messages to the folder on the main server, even when the message is composed for the second server. The same applies for sent messages: they are always saved on the main server.
    How do I tell alpine to save postponed/sent messages on the right server?
    Current configuration:
    Setup -> Configuration:
    Personal Name = My Name
    User Domain = <No Value Set>
    SMTP Server (for sending) = smtp.server.tld:587/user=USERNAME/tls
    NNTP Server (for news) = <No Value Set>
    Inbox Path = {imap.server.tld:993/user=USERNAME/ssl}INBOX

    Second question: How do I make use of the Trash folder? At present, mails marked for deletion are deleted completely when expunged. How do I move them to Trash folder instead? (of course in the trash folder on the right server...)
    Any hints appreciated -- Thanks!

    mrchi wrote:
    Mail also lists other folders with similar names at the same level as INBOX, which appear to have a mysterious relationship with the real folders on the server. Some are the same as, some not. Are they "local" folders?
    Yes, they're local folders (located in /Users/youruseraccount/Library/Mail/IMAP-account@domain), they're synced and display the contents of the folders on the server, so when you move some message from one folder to the other, the folders on the server will reflect this change.
    Also, to select if you want to keep local copies of the messages or not, you can go to the Advanced properties of the IMAP account in Mail.
    Can I get rid of them and just use Mail to display only what is actually on the server, in the structure it is on the server?
    Nic
    No, you can't get rid of them. Usually you can minimize them under a sort of earth globe icon.

  • How to configure one TREX host with multiple index servers ?

    Hi All,
    Does anyone know how to configure TREX on the one host,

    Hi Andres,
    To make use of the RAM a Server provides you have to run two indexserver processes (each can then consume 2 GB);
    Proceed like this:
    1. Go to TREXdeamon.ini; check if section [indexserver2] is there (it is already provided, but not active in standard installation)
    2. In TREXdeamon.ini go to
    [daemon]
    references sections below
    programs=nameserver,preprocessor1,indexserver1,queueserver,alertserver
    and add indexserver2 here. Restart TREX; second porcess is then started; can be checked in TREX monitor in Portal as well
    3. To distribute existing indexes to the new process, start TREXadmintool and go to Index: Landscape
    Go to the last two columns and move the indexes (move master here/secondary mouse click)
    If you don't distribute the indexes the new index server process will be regarded when an new index is created.
    Hope this helps!
    cheers
    Bettina

  • How to configure multiple RAS servers?

    Hi
    'Crystal Reports Server Embedded XI R2 - Sizing and Configuration Guide'
    It mentions that we can get more license and add the servers in ClientSDKOptions.xml.

    I tried this and added ClientSDKOptions.xml file in the web application lib directory
    Added that to PATH
    Our application uses (Crystal-2008 / rasapp.jar /rascore.jar)
    com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.application.ReportClientDocument
    When i commented out rcd.setReportAppServer(sn); it is not picking up from the XML file.
    I am getting the below error

    You are running an internal DNS server presumably but don't have these hostnames (A-NAME or C-NAME records) set on external DNS servers.
    If you run a whois on your domain you can find our who hosts the DNS for the domain if you don't already know. Often DNS hosting companies will have web based tools for you to edit the DNS entries yourself or alternatively you may need to email them and ask them to create the records.
    It sounds like you would like to point the addresses ubuntu.domain.com and win.domain.com to the IP address 92.62.26.10 as well. To do this you will have to make sure the services running on each box use a different port to one another. (I.e. You cannot have something running on port 80 on both servers).
    Depending on your router also you may only be able to do basic forwarding (I.e. Port 80 forwards to Mac.domain.com; port 443 forwards to ubuntu.domain.com; port 25 forwards to win.domain.com).
    If you need more flexibility you may need to get more external IP addresses.

  • How to configure multiple smtp servers per domain

    Hi,
    how do we configure multiple smtp servers per domain/corporate in iplanet messaging server 5.2. i wanted to do this so that i can configure some domains with virus scanning and some domains without antivirus.

    Hi Martin,
    Well we are trying to run a report without exactly specifying the name of reports server anywhere, e.g. in database or in form or anywhere else.
