Hi Everyone,
My Jdev version is 11.1.2.3.0.
I have developed many ADF applications in this version itself by setting time zone as -Duser.timezone="+05:30" and all were running fine.
But Jdeveloper got crashed so i reinstalled the same version but now none of the applications are running.
Its showing error as below:
oracle.jbo.JboException: JBO-29112: The time zone 'GMT+05:30' defined in adf-config.xml or TimeZone.getDefault().getID() does not exist in your Oracle database table V$TIMEZONE_NAMES. Please set an available time zone in your TZ environment variable or user.timezone Java system property.
What to do now?
how will i know wat time zone should be set?
please help the needful...

How to migrate an existing Microsoft SSIS deployment if it is decided to replace SQL Server with an Oracle database?

Hi Oracle Gurus!
Currently, I am designing an ETL solution that transforms and loads a lot of data from flat files and sends it to an SQL Server 2008 R2 database for storage. However, at a future point of time, it may be decided to add or even replace SQL Server with an Oracle 11g database.
Currently, I am writing script transforms in C# to dynamically generate SSIS packages to tansform and load the data into SQL Server. But considering that in future, an Oracle 11g or 12c database might be added to, or replace the SQL Server database, how do I make my script transforms (or whatever else I am developing currently for SQL Server) reusable to the extent possible?
Or more precisely, what steps do I take, from an Oracle point of view, to ensure that any future migration of data to an Oracle database would be smooth to the extent possible?
Looking up to my Oracle Gurus for enlightenment in this matter!

When you're writing your on C# code to load data into the SQL Server you have to modify the routines so that they will work with Oracle.
One approach is to use the extproc agent which would allow you to directly call external programs with all the logic in it to perform the load of your files and to put the data into the Oracle database. Another option would be to use utl_file package (or equivalents) which will allow you to open external files from your Oracle database and to directly read its content and then to pass it to the related tables.

Calling Dot Net program From oracle Database

is there any way to call DOT NET program Like C# from oracle database, i mean is there way to call it from pl-sql stored procedure or trigger ..etc

If your Oracle database is running on Windows and is a reasonably recent version (I believe 10.1 or later), it has the ability to create .Net stored procedures just like you have the ability to create Java stored procedures. That tends not to be a particularly commonly used feature but it's an option. If you compile your .Net application to a DLL, you could also call it as an external procedure.
More commonly, however, if you're talking about a .Net program that is deployed on a middle tier server, however, would be for the .Net application to expose an API (say, a web service API) that the database could invoke (via UTL_DBWS or UTL_HTTP).

Downgrading Oracle database 12.1.0 to 11R2

Hi everyone,
I'm very new to the oracle products and databases as well, so obviuosly my question might look like a bit simple for someone, but I do really need an answer to it.
I'm using OTN Developer Day VM, which comes with the preinstalled Oracle DB 12cR1. I'm wondering if its possible to dowgrade it to 11R2? Maybe in order to do the downgrade it must have been previously upgraded from 11R2 to 12cR1 ?

Your 'guess' is correct. You can only 'downgrade' IF you have previously 'upgraded' AND you have not modified the COMPATIBLE parameter.

Downgrading Oracle Database to an Earlier Release
For supported releases of Oracle Database, you can downgrade a database to the release from which you last upgraded. For example, if you recently upgraded from release 11.2.0.4 to Oracle Database 12c, and you did not change the compatible initialization parameter to 12.1 or higher, then you can downgrade to release 11.2.0.4. If your Oracle Database 12c is release 12.1.0.2, and you did not change the compatible initialization parameter to 12.1.0.2, then you can downgrade to release 12.1.0.1 and so forth.

Was thinking what can we can provide as hit ratio is not a accurate matrix.

yes, you can definitely prepare some reports presenting the health of your Oracle database and believe me it's much better in database 10g onwards.
I recommend you to explore AWR views (Check reference guide in documentation library and search for DBA_HIST_XXXX views). These views will give you the data which you see in AWR report. Since AWR report gives you health of a system between two time periods, writing customized queries using these views will give you desired output for a complete month.
For example, and most important in your case, is DBA_HIST_SYSSTAT. You first need to finalize the metrics which you want to show. Oracle has some inbuilt metrics for you and you can check them in DBA_HIST_SYSMETRIC_HISTORY, like host CPU utilization, session logical reads/sec, user call/sec.

How to connect from SAP on DB2 for i5/OS to external oracle database

Hello,
I managed to retrieve data from an external DB2 for i5/OS database using ABAP Native SQL running on another i5/OS server.
I also managed to retrieve data from an external oracle database using ABAP Native SQL running on another Windows/Oracle server.
Now i want to use ABAP Native SQL running on an i5/OS and retrieve data from an external Oracle database?
I suppose i need software to connect fron I5/OS to this oracle database like you need extra software when you want to connect to an i5/OS database if you are running SAP on Windows (read note 751451)
Does anybody know?

Hello Bertil,
to access an Oracle database from within an SAP system you'll need SAP's database interface library specific for Oracle plus the Oracle database client library utilized by SAP's database interface library. Both need to be available for the operating system your application server runs on, i.e. IBM i5/OS in your scenario.
Since the required Oracle database client software is not available for IBM i5/OS your SAP application servers on IBM i5/OS cannot access your Oracle database.
To overcome this limitation you would need to add at least one additional SAP application server based on Windows or Linux/Power to your current SAP system utilizing IBM DB2 for i5/OS. Since the required software libraries are available for these two operating systems you will be able to solve your problem this way.

You can use Oracles heterogeneous Services ODBC agent to connect to SQL Server, if your Oracle database is running in windows then very easy to do the ODBC connection
control pannel-->ODBC icon -->System DSN tab and then click the Add button.
After this add the connectivity details in $ORACLE_HOME/hs/admin/initMYSQLSERVERDSN.ora file
If your Oracle database is running on Linux then you need to install something called FreeTDS driver can be downloaded from http://ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/ALPHA/freetds/freetds-0.60.tgz ; to define ODBC connection and then add the details into $ORACLE_HOME/hs/admin/initMYSQLSERVERDSN.ora file

you are actually using JDBC so the DSN entry does not matter.
2 things.
Make sure that your oracle database driver is in your classpath on your tomcat server.
I.E. copy the file classes12.jar into your common/lib folder of tomcat, or into your WEB-INF/lib folder of your application. and RESTART your server. classes12.jar can be found on the internet or more easily somewhere within your oracle installation. just search for it.
Make sure your jdbc url is correct. I believe it goes like this.... fill in the blacks
connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:scott/tiger@MyOracleHost:1521:MyDB");Note how the username are passed in the first string there fore there is no need to pass additional parameters. This method may be depriciated, but if so, just take out the user and pass from the string and continue to pass them as 3 seperate strings.
connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:MyOracleHost:1521:MyDB","scott","tiger");That should get your connection. if not, post your errors.

More specifically "The Database as Web Services Consumer". I think that this is an area that has in the past been under estimated as to the potential benefits.
I am currently trying to develop a solution that consumes several interfaces with a couple of them being published web services, so an ideal solution. I have then spent the last three weeks having to read up about the architecture of Java in the database, Jpublisher and make sense of how it all works together.
I have got very close to getting one of the web services to work but failed due to using 10gR2 where all the java & libraries has moved to version 1.5. The solution is to load the jdk1.4.2 and configure jpublisher to use this. So far so good except this is not available on some platforms, Windows - 64 bit (not itanium).
The configuration is proving very challenging but will hopefully reap rewards.
(Thought I would give you some background to my experience).
Anyway my question to you is having looked at Jdeveloper it appears to do almost anything except consume services into the database, also with Java now being at version 1.5 outside the database for 10gR2 and supporting 1.4 inside, do you see some alignment of these in future database releases?
Finally off to buy your book now as no doubt there is a huge amount more to learn.

How to create the oracle database for MDM

Hello Friends,
I am new to MDM technology. I have been asked to install MDM 5.5 on windows with oracle database.
i have gone through the installation guides and master guide of MDM. But in the installation the procedure is not given to create the data base after oracle installation. i want to know do i need to create the database manually if yes then what should be the DBSID of the database and schema name etc.

Well, let's rock.
Oracle database creation
Use Oracle Database Configuration Assistant (Start -> Programs -> ...) to create a new database.
The database naming (on Step 3) is up to you. I used MDM as for SID and MDM.<MYHOSTNAME>.<MYDOMAIN> as for the db name.
Be sure you select UTF8 for the character set (on Step 12) - this requirement is mentioned in the SAP MDM Installation Guide.
All other settings can go default.
Listener and TNS name configuration
The next step is to configure a listener and tns name for your database.
Run the Oracle Net Configuration Assistance and select the "Listener configuration". Default settings on the wizard pages should suite your configuration.
Click Finish.
Run the Oracle Net Configuration Assistance again and select the "Local Service Name configuration". Add one. Choose the name of the database for the service name. It was MDM.<MYHOSTNAME>.<MYDOMAIN> for me.
Ensure that you use name of the database that you've entered during the database creation.
Everything else should go as suggested by default.
Once you are at the Test stage of the wizard and get the "invalid login/password" message, clisk "Change login" and use SYSTEM user and the password you\ve entered during databae creation.
After the test passes, you can connect to your Oracle database through the MDM Console.

ShadowProtect to backup Oracle Databases

Hi to all
I would like to hear from anyone if you are using ShadowProtect to backup your Oracle databases.
What are your experiences and the pros and cons in using ShadowProtect as the one and only backup/recovery tools for Oracle databases?
Can the potential of ShadowProtect replaces the commonly use Oracle backup/recovery tools?
The reason why I raise this question is because my boss has the idea that ShadowProtect is THE best backup/recovery tools. Personally I don't think so, because there can be cases where we only need to recover the database and not the whole OS. Thus need to hear more from you guys.

Hey Moslee,
You should definitely be testing your Oracle database recovery plan quarterly. If you're not even testing it annually that would be what really scares me the most. Testing should show you what you can and cannot get out of your backup and recovery software. Everything else being equal, please please please test your backup and recovery plan and do it often.
As for ShadowProtect, one of the nice things about this backup solution is that it's an image-based backup which means that it will quiesce the Oracle database and transactions to get a good snapshot of your database. Then (because it's an image-based solution) you can recover the Oracle DB, OS, installed applications, running services, data, and etc to that specific recovery point. Another nice thing is that ShadowProtect can quickly virtualize a backup image as a VM using Oracle's VirtualBox, MS Hyper-V, VMware, Citrix ZenServer and/or RedHat's KVM. Over all ShadowProtect's a pretty powerful and easy to use Windows backup tool.
Oh, and ShadowProtect's integrated with Oracle's VirtualBox technology (it's called ShadowProtect VirtualBoot) which makes it SUPER easy to spin up a backup image as a VM and verify (read "TEST" in capital letters) whether you've got a solid backup of your Oracle DB. I'd hate to find out the day after the excrement/fan fiasco that my backups were unusable. Please test! (I'm cringing in my chair here.) Then let us know whether you agree with your boss.
