Deploying a jdeveloper adf application to a desktop

I need to create an interface to an oracle database system that I set up, and I need to do it posthaste. I got drawn into the offerings of jdeveloper by all the promotion and videos and tutorials that are available on the web page. It does indeed seem like a rapid way to create an interface. I originally liked the idea of creating an adf fusion webapplication, but I couldn't figure out how to get my sample application to run on Tomcat.
So now, I'm interested in developing an interface that can be run on a desktop, in the meantime until I have more time to work on a web interface. My question is does a desktop application need an application server as well if it's using adf? In other words, I'd like to create an application in jdeveloper that I can deploy as a simple executable jar file and send to a user for them to use on their desktop, is this possible? Is web logic required to run on that other users desktop?
I've tried doing this using a "Java Desktop Application (adf)" which creates two projects one for the model and one for the view controller. I created a simple prototype form that connects to my database and everything looks great when I hit the green play button. However when I try and deploy it as an executable jar with the entry point being the one and only form I can't run it. A jar file is created and it says its an executable jar file but when I double click it, the OS simply beeps (I'm using Windows XP).
Thanks.

You should be able to execute the application packaged on the jar file as is. I haven't developed myself anything like it, but as long as your necessary ADF libraries are accessible you shouldn't have any problems running it.

You won't be able to run the jar file that way - unless you package a manifest file with it and set its Main-Class attribute to point to your class containing the main() method. Try instead executing java -jar yourJarFile.jar from the command line.

  • Deploying a jdeveloper adf application to a desktop jar file

I have a problem when trying to run an .adf Form that is in the jar.
    My Manifest.mf looks like this
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Main-Class: dfg.model.FormUsr1View1
When I change it to run a none .adf form like
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Main-Class: dfg.model.Form1
    it runs with no problems.
At both cases I use commnd line like this:
    java -jar  dfg.jar
I have also a libs folder in my jar (including all adf jars) and also tried using the following Manifest.MF
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Class-Path: \libs
    Main-Class: dfg.model.FormUsr1View1
    I 'd appreciate any help!

    Hi Jhansi,
Whether u create HRconnDS in ur Weblogic server
    If not create it ...
If yes just check it out whether u gave a correct connection string for it......

    Hi Experts,
how can I deploy the adf application that is build using 11g on OAS 10.1.3.4
is it possible to do that
we are unable to fine the OAS connection wizard in 11g
    Thank
    Gayaz

    Hi Gayaz,
Since we got stuck in the same swamp I can tell you what our local Oracle Support told us: there is no other choice but to buy new license of Oracle WebLogic Server Standard or Enterprise Edition.
Even with maintenance license you cannot upgrade to Oracle WebLogic server 11g... a very bad news for developers... but maybe Oracle is preparing something new - but this is the question for Oracle Support Staff

  • Deployment of an ADF application with use's the JAAS

    hi all,
i built an ADF application and used the JAAS based authentication and authorization and every thing works fine on the embedded oc4j for the Jdev, but when i deployed the application to the application server the authentication is apparently disabled since it's open the jsp pages without redirecting to the login page as usual on the embedded oc4j, so what should i configure on the AS oc4j ?
since i created all roles and users ans premissions on the application side how can i configure the AS oc4j to the system-jazn-data.xml?
i updated the security provider and it doesn't work.
    appreciate any help

the login screen come up after deployment but i changed the security provider for my application to the system-jazen-data.xml file which i placed on the AS but it still doesn't read the users and roles and permissions configured on it..
my major problem is that i built the whole Application on the Jdev and it's internal OC4J, so how can i deploy it on the AS without repeating my work??
and a second question , with the ear file it self is the polices the i gave to each role configured in it??? can i just add the roles and users on the AS OC4J and i ll find the authorization i did already on the Application level??
thanx and best regards for help

  • ADF Application on Windows Desktop Client

    Hi,
I developed a small ADF Web Application and tested it on Integrated Web logic server. Is there a way by which I can make this program to run stand alone on a client PC with out Web logic server (In the same way as Forms 6i runs on 2 tier mode in client desktop connecting to a database server)?
Will ADF Desktop Application serve this purpose?
    Regards

    Thanks Timo.
Is there any documentation on how to deploy an ADF Desktop application as an installation pack for Windows?
    Regards

  • Unable to deploy/run adf application in jdeveloper/ satandalone server

    Hi
I am trying to deploy a simple ADF application (Fusion Web application) in
Jdeveloper IDE (Integrated WL server)  - In this case, the server state is changing to RUNNING but no signs that the application is deployed and no Target URL is seen.
Deploying it on a standalone server: In  this case, I get the following error: Remote deployment failed (oracle.jdevimpl.deploy.common.Jsr88RemoteDeployer).
    Can anyone please suggest...
    Thanks a lot

    Hi Shay
    Thanks a ton for responding.
My application is a basic taskflow app - to display the values of a form on the following page (splash page)...
when I tried to deploy it on a stand alone wl server( 2nd case) - deployment status = Failed with the error message I mentioned above.
    a) i tried running on standalone using the jdeveloper and
    B) i took the war file and deployed it - I get the same error with Deployment Status = Failed.
the strange part is that the same application is running fine on my friends machine - she is able to see the Target URL and the deployment is successful.

  • Infinite loop/afrLoop when deploying ADF application to standalone weblogic

Working with Oracle ADF / JDeveloper 11.1.2.2
I have enabled ADF security in my application and am using JAAS combined with Oracle EBS users and roles to provide security to the application. Testing on my local integrated weblogic server works fine.
When deploying my Oracle ADF application to a standalone Weblogic server through an EAR file, requesting a JSF page causes the server to go into an infinite loop on both IE and firefox.

Reviewing some of the suggestions from the forum and from the link below, I have tried fixing the issue through updates to my web.xml - but am still having the same issue.

I know other users have experienced similar issues - but I am having trouble debugging or troubleshooting why this is happening.
Any suggestions on how to further troubleshoot or resolve this issue would be appreciated!
    Dan

I was able to resolve the login page looping issue.
The issue is related to the login page being a JSF page based on a page template.
When I created the JSF login page as a page template - the template contains a binding:
    <af:pageTemplate viewId="/test-template.jsf" value="#{bindings.ptb1}" id="pt1">
When I deploy my application to the test weblogic server, the anonymous-role grants are not being respected. So even though I grant view access to the login JSF page to anonymous-role -- it appears that weblogic is trying to request a login for any page with a pageDef (including the login page). By re-creating the login page with no pageDef (a JSF page that does not use a page template) -- the login page is displayed (rather than entering into a loop).
There is still a seperate issue with the anonymous-role grant not working as I would expect it to work that I will need to troubleshoot further.

  • Deploying ADF application to the cloud

I had been deploying a simple adf application to the cloud trying to get simple basic authentication working with cloud based roles.  Yesterday I made a change and the application failed to deploy, and despite reverting changes I still am unable to deploy.
I have since created new ADF applications, and cannot get them to deploy in the cloud either, while they do deploy on my local wls instance.  The error in the service log is
    User defined listener com.sun.faces.config.ConfigureListener failed: java.lang.InternalError: oracle/adfinternal/controller/resource/AdfcMessagesArb.<clinit>()V.
Googling on the error shows it to be an issue with versions, or a corruption of a jar file.  I did get a similar error deploying to my local when I forgot to add the library-ref for jsf 1.2 to my weblogic.xml.
Jdev version is 11.1.1.6, java cloud service version is 13.1.
Is there any way to get more logging that what is returned by the cloud sdk client for the service log?
I'm going to try a reinstall of jdev.  Any other suggestions?

I uninstalled jdev, deleted the entire dir <user>/AppData/Roaming/Jdeveloper, and reinstalled jdev.
After this I am able to deploy again.

  • ADF application deployed to Weblogic producing runtime error

    Hi all,
We are trying to deploy a new ADF application built by JDeveloper 11.1.1.5.0 to a standalone weblogic (*version 10.3.1.0*)
The app deploys and runs on integrated wls without any problems, and deploys to the standalone wls without any warnings or errors, but does not run on standalone wls :(
    I checked many possible errors and tried many possible solutions, including, but not limited to;
--> Checked tag references and page components on jsp/jspx pages, deleted unused or possibly unsupported tags from pages and taglibs from ui project (trinidad components 1.2), but still I get the error
--> Using 2 different machines with JDev 11.1.1.5 we created test applications with same tech stack, tag libraries and tag references, deployed to standalone wls and they run without problems (!)
--> Checked web.xml, the file contents and references are the same as of other applications whic are deployed from same environment to the same standalone wls and running without problems (these applications are referenced as "other working applications" following this line)
--> In sessions.xml, the db connection is default, the file includes 2 references <server-platform xsi:type="weblogic-10-platform"/> and <primary-project xsi:type="xml">META-INF/tlMap.xml</primary-project>
--> All projects (Model and view) are cleaned and rebuilt, deployment files are recreated, application ear is recreated, runtime application name and context root name ise changed, but still no luck, I get the same error
--> Project technology stacks are checked and all tech stacks are configured same as "other working apllications" (since their technical architectures are the same)
--> Checked application datasources; database connections of this application automatically create datasources, for connection dbconn1 there exists a datasource named dbconn1DS as a module in the deployed application. Other working applications had datasources with same name; to prevent a possible conflict in JNDI names of these datasources I changed the name of the db connection to a unique name, deleted the old connection and datasource. But still no luck, error is still SAME.
--> Test applications (which have trinidad components 1.2 as tag library and there are references to it from page files) run on standalone wls, removing this taglib and the references does not make a difference. But the real application gives error when trinidad is removed from the tag libraries (java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: resetADFContext)
--> Created new jspx pages which are not using backing beans and tried to access these, but I received the SAME error for these pages as well. Removed all jspx pages except the dummy test pages, and still no change.
One final note; html pages in the project open without problems, as their url are different from the jspx files ( "host/appName/Test.html instead" of "host/appName/faces/Test.jspx" ) and when these pages open, the server log and console indicates new sessions created by this request.
This is the famous error I get on the server log every time I try to access a jspx file:
    ####<Jul 31, 2012 9:14:12 AM EEST> <Error> <HTTP> <hostname> <ADF_SRV1> <[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '24' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'> <<WLS Kernel>> <> <> <1343715252920> <BEA-101020>

Could anybody please help, where to focus to see the REAL indications and solutions of this annoying error? Soon I will get this application to production environment, so any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance...

    Ok, I think I should give the update, on how I struggled to solve the problem;
--> I did NOT update the wls, since it is the production server and has many applications and services running on it , I could not take the risk of breaking those.
--> I migrated, or rewrote the application on JDeveloper 11.1.1.1.0, rewrote the toplink map file, descriptors, pageDefs bla bla, to make it compatible with wls 10.3.1.0.
--> Then I tested the app on JDev 11.1.1.1.0 ok, then opened the same application on JDev 11.1.1.5.0 then tested ok....
--> And I deployed the application from JDev 11.1.1.5.0 to the standalone wls, and this is where the magic happened, the app worked without error on standalone wls 10.3.1.0
+( Just a note: I really wonder, where is the backward, or forward compatibility of ide and server runtimes? )+
Anyway, it is a big lesson for me about choosing the ide version for a specific server.
    Thank you...

  • How to deploy ADF applications in Oracle apps

    Hi,
I just gone thru demos on ADF rich client applications using jdeveloper 11g.My doubt is how to deploy and use these from oracle apps.Is ADF supported in R12.If yes then could anybody provide me steps to deploy code at unix file system and how to create form functions for accessing jspx pages?
I know that in OAF, we can deploy server components at $OA_java and PG.xml files using xml importer and we can create form functions for PG.xml files.Similarly what are the steps to deploy and access ADF applications thru oracle apps.
    Thanks,
    ashok

ADF Rich Client Components need a newer server than the one that comes with Apps R12.
So what you'll need to do is have a separate WebLogic 10.3 server where you deploy the ADF Rich Client Applications.
You can call them from your Apps by customizing your current apps and adding a button or link that just calls the URL where your ADF apps are.

  • How to deploy Secure ADF applications w/o Fusion Middleware Control

Just got the team upgraded to the new JDeveloper 11.1.1.1.0 and things have come to a halt because we can't deploy to our test servers.
The previous process from OTN for 11.1.1.0.2 doesn't seem to work anymore.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/tips/muench/credmig111100/index.html
The new on-line docs say the way to deploy Secure ADF Application is either Fusion Middleware Control or WLST command. The instructions for the FMC are there, but not the WLST. (See section 7.2 http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/core.1111/e10043/addlsecfea.htm#CFHFAIGE)
Is there a new documented set of instructions for deploying a Secure ADF Application using WLST????
