Deploying a portlet to OAS 10.1.2 using JDeveloper

Hi,
Is it possible to deploy a portlet created in JDeveloper 10.1.3.2 to Oracle App Server 10.1.2. ?
I created a simple portlet using the JDev 10.1.3.2 portlet wizard but when I went to deploy the portlet on Oracle App Server 10.1.2 using JDeveloper I get the following error message.
(Earlier I had created a new server connection to my 10.1.2 server. I tested the connection to this server inside JDeveloper and there was no issues).
Does anyone know what causes this issue ?
HTTP response code = 200, HTTP response msg = OK
Command has finished
Receiving command exit value
Receiving command output
**** No output was received from command
Closing connection to Oc4jDcmServlet
#### DCM command did not complete successfully (-1)
#### HTTP return code was -1
Exit status of DCM servlet client: -1
Elapsed time for deployment: 12 seconds
#### Deployment incomplete. #### 13-Mar-2007 12:45:44
Following on from this, if the above error cannot be resolved does this mean that I can't develop portlets for Oracle Portal 10.1.4 and gain the extra functionality (ADF Faces etc...) using JDeveloper 10.1.3.2 ? It appears that 10.1.3.2 is tied into the WebCentre Framework which would require an additional license in order to use some of the components, or am I missing something ?
Am I better off sticking with JDeveloper 10.1.2 to develop my portlets ?
Thanks.

To deploy portlet to Oracle application server.
1.     Install Oracle database 10g (10.1.0.4.2 or later)
2.     Install Oracle Application Server (10.1.2.0.2) Infrastructure.
3.     Install Oracle Application Server (10.1.2.0.2) J2EE and Web Cache
4.     Install Oracle Application Server (10.1.2.0.2) Portal and Wireless.
5.     Upgrade Portal to 10.1.4
6.     Configure Java WSRP Container in Middle Tier
7.     Deploy a WSRP Portlet Application to Oracle Application Server.

  • Problems deploying a simple EJB on Weblogic 8.1 using JDeveloper

    Hey guys,
Title says it all. First I had one problem in that I could not test the connection to the Weblogic server. I moved the weblogic.jar file into the lib/ext folder and that test worked then. After that I wrote the EJB...a very simple one...and I followed the http://dev2dev.bea.com/pub/a/2006/01/wls-jdeveloper.html?page=1 tutorial so far. But when it came time to deploy the ejb to the server, I am getting this funky error:
ERROR: ejbc found errors while processing the descriptor for C:\oracle\jdeveloper\jdev\mywork\WeblogicApp\EchoEJB\deploy\ejb1.jar:
ERROR: Error from ejbc: Error processing 'META-INF/ejb-jar.xml': XML document does not appear to contain a properly formed DOCTYPE header
Honestly I am confused now...any one encounter that error?
    Thanks for all replies.
    Cheers

So I added the DOCTYPE and now I get another error. And that is as follows:
ERROR: Error from ejbc: Error parsing file 'META-INF/ejb-jar.xml' at line: 5 column: 219. Attribute "xmlns:xsi" must be declared for element type "ejb-jar".
It seems that when the EJB is created, then it automatically creates the appropriate ejb-jar.xml and for some reason I guess the one it is creating this time is not good enough for Weblogic because first the DOCTYPE was missing and then after inserting the DOCTYPE I am getting the above error. Any help would be appreciated. This is the first time I am using Weblogic and this is a rather disheartening amount of progress I have made since last night! ;(
Thanks in advance for any help. If I am doing something silly please point it out so I can learn!
    Cheers,
    Surya

  • Writing a JSR168 portlet WITHOUT using Jdeveloper or "wizards"

I have a JSR168 portlet that is built using Maven (http://maven.apache.org/ if you don't know what that is).
It deploys and operates perfectly well into a portlet container such as Pluto (the standard, reference container from Apache).
Pluto supplies a Maven plugin, that takes the vanilla web.xml and other configuration e.g. portlet.xml and adds the necessary configuration to run the portlet in the container. I believe there is an Ant plugin that does exactly the same thing.
    It adds the following conf to teh web.xml;
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>my-portlet-name</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>org.apache.pluto.core.PortletServlet</servlet-class>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>portlet-name</param-name>
    <param-value>my-portlet-name</param-value>
    </init-param>
    <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>my-portlet-name</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/PlutoInvoker/my-portlet-name</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
This is the "magic" that glues my portlet to the portlet container.
What I wish to know, is how to make my JSR168 portlet deploy into Oracle Portal 10g without EVER using JDeveloper. What is the 'magic' I have to apply to my web.xml or portlet.xml or other configuration that will men I can deploy my portlet war into the app server and make it talk turkey with the portal container. I can cope with just having a customised web.xml that I have to copy into the WAR file if need be ... if I could find some guidance what should be in that file.
It seems that every search I've done in google or though the doco we have here starts with "Start Jdeveloper and select XXX in the portlet wizard".
I do not use Jdeveloper and nor will I. I will continue to build my Java code in a correct fashion, i.e. on the command line with my standard build tools that don't involve the IDE. Don't get me wrong, I use an IDE, but one should never be mandated. In my book, "wizards" are about the worst imaginable way to get any programming task completed.

    Hi Marcel
With respect, it's patently obvious that we know how to develop a portlet without Jdeveloper, because if you read the message you would have been able to discern that this is the way we are accustomed to doing it, and it's faster, easier and more portable that way. I've been doing J2EE development since the first version of the spec and well before there was an Oracle implementation of it.
You don't actually need an EAR file, as a WAR will suffice and the dcmctl command-line utility can supply everything else in its arguments (like, context-path and the like), and it allows each WAR artifact to be deployed in different times, i.e. when they are built on the integration server. I find EAR files usually too heavyweight especially as I rarely write EJBs, as opposed to using e.g. Spring.
Using the web browser is not an option for automated deployment and acceptance testing from an integration build server.
Configuring the portal side of things looks decidedly a different matter and I've not found anyway to do it from the command line, it demands the browser, which is a let-down.
It's terribly disappointing the paucity of information about automation of deployment as opposed to the positively verdant amount of presentations, tutorials and documentation that assumes top-to-bottom Oracle tooling and environment and browser-based configuration. Even where it's actually possible Oracle doesn't seem to want to tell people about it or do as I believe they should, which is regard this form of deployment and configuration as the default way to teach developers how to use their products. None of this helps build and deploy to Oracle products using test-driven development, continuous integration, and automated acceptance testing, all of which are usually regarded as essential parts of a modern developers toolkit by the best minds in the business.
So after we're left alone to discover how to do this by ourselves for a month you can forgive my disappointment at being lectured like I was some neophyte who doesn't know how to make a WAR file with textedit.

  • Expose JSF app as a remote portlet on OAS 10.1.3.1

    Hello,
We have a requirement to expose our JSF app as a remote portlet via WSRP.
Our production platform is OAS 10.1.3.1 SOA and we are using JDeveloper 10.1.3.1 for the development.
We are new to the portal technologies, but what we understood reading the docs is that we must use WEB Center framework to expose the JSF app as a remote portlet. Is this correct?
Also, how can we install the WEB Center to our OAS 10.1.3.1 SOA ?
    thank you

Hi, to expose your JSF application as a portlet you wil need to use the WebCenter Portlet Bridge, this is our implementation of JSR 301:
Oracle WebCenter was released with OracleAS 10.1.3.2 and requires a minimum of ADF 10.1.3.2 runtime libraries, you can either deploy the required ADF Runtime Libraries to your 10.1.3.1 OC4J or upgrade to OracleAS 10.1.3.3 which is the latest release. You can find more information here:

    Mick.

  • Deploying  Jave portlet on Oracle Application Server 10g

I have installed Oracle 10g Application server, donwloaded and installed JDevleoper 9.0.5.1 and the latest Java Portal Development and as well as the JDeveloper portlet-addin. Now, I followed the instructions from the http://portalstudio.oracle.com/pls/ops/docs/FOLDER/COMMUNITY/PDK/ARTICLES/BUILD.JSR168.PORTLETS.USING.JAVA.PORTLET.WIZARD.9IJDEVELOPER.HTML
On using JDeveloper addin wizrd to create a java portlet and so far so good. However, I am stuff on the last bit on deployment. It document says "# Now use the URL provided in the log page at the bottom of JDeveloper to get part of your URL (e.g. http://myserver.uk.oracle.com:8888/my-portlet) and complete the URL.
    http://myserver.uk.oracle.com:8888/my-portlet/portlets?WSDL
Now use this URL to register your portlet with OracleAS Portal.

    Hi FormsEleven,
When you say you can do this or you have done for demo then considering following directory structure if I have two forms having common form names how it will be resolved?
Or how the url to access these forms will be?
As shown in the following structure consider we have Form1 in sub directory1 as well as in sub-directory2 then how the link to access these forms will be?

  • Deploying a Portlet into Weblogic

    Hi Folks,
I have a basic question about deploying a portlet into weblogic.
I created a simple JSF/ADF application and used the Portlet Bridge to "Portletize" it.
When I run the application using JDev11 everything works fine, but If I try to deploy it into a standalone weblogic I got errors
    related with missing libraries.
The question is, Do I need to have Oracle Webcenter installed in this standalone weblogic server, in order to support my application deploy?
    TIA,
    Luis

    Hi Luis,
For a portletized ADF application to be deployed on webcenter, it requires even the OC4J containers to be pre-configured.
Basically, any webcenter application or the Portletized ADF applications require oracle.wsrp library to be present in the container's library.
Please check in your Weblogic container if it is present. If not, check how to Pre-Configure the weblogic container, ideally, oracle should provide an executable or some command to make it pre-configured.
I am aware of these steps to perform on Application Server 10g's Container. Oracle should have its containers pre-configured in 11g, but if they are not, you need to follow the same steps.
As far as JDeveloper iis concerned, both the Embedded OC4J as well as the in built server which is Preconfigured Server are as the name suggests pre-configured. Hence, everything works fine when you run from JDev. But same is not the case with Contianers in server. So, we need to explicitly make them pre-confgired to start running these Portletized ADF Applications.
    Hope this answer helps you.
    Regards,
    Kunal Chheda.

  • Dicussions configuration - issue with deploy-jive-portlet.jar deployment

    Hi,
I'm setting up discussions on 10.1.3.2 webcenter out of the box install. After running this command on linux: java -client -Dhttp.proxyHost=www-proxy.us.oracle.com -Dhttp.proxyPort=80 -jar deploy-jive-portlet.jar
I do not have updated jiveforums-5.1.0.jar file in $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/OC4J_Jive/applications/owc_discussions/jiveforums/WEB-INF/lib, instead only the old backup file jiveforums-5.1.0.jar_backup exists in that directory.
I found out that during the time I run the comman a tmp (e.g. called jiveforums-5.1.0.jar30019.tmp) gets created in the /tmp directory of my linux server. I extracted xwork-community.xml from the tmp file and noticed differences (e.g. added SSO classes) compared to the xwork-community.xml from the backup jiveforums-5.1.0.jar_backup file.
I've now manually copied the temporary file to $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/OC4J_Jive/applications/owc_discussions/jiveforums/WEB-INF/lib and discussions login seems to work fine (through sso).
I've followed these two instructions with the setup but with both I got same result (i.e. updated jiveforums-5.1.0.jar missing and changed jiveforums-5.1.0.jarxxxtmp created in /tmp)
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32110_01/webcenter.1013/b31074/jpsdg_jive.htm#CBBHFIIA
    and
    Note: 458616.1
I would like to ask is there some known bug with the discussions configuration (I have not managed to find anything from webiv) which causes this? And is the work-a-round which I've done (using tmp file) possibly valid one or is it likely something will break later on because of this?
    Thanks!

  • Is it possible to deploy a portlet war file on web container?

    Hi All,
Is it possible to deploy a portlet war file on web container i.e say I have a JSF or struts portlet application deployed on a portal container which I need to run as a web application.
So, I would need to deploy the application on web container.
Can this be done directly without making any changes and without importing jars?or is it not possible at all?
    Did anyone try this?
Would be very nice of you if you can reply asap.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Nishant

I'm not sure using the DVT enabler portlet will do what you want. It basically just specifies the render dependencies to bring in the dojo and dvt javascript libraries. It doesn't provide any login support itself; the javascript it brings responds to the logged-in state of the user (accessed via DISC), so something else is required to login the user.

    thank you

    Hi,
In one of our current projects we're using SOA Suite and WebCenter. For example, we're exposing a JSF page containing a custom-built human workflow tasklist as remote portlet.
We have installed a separate WebCenter AS 10.1.3.2.0 besides the AS SOA Suite. (See: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/101320ws.html) and patched it to 10.1.3.3.0. For development we use JDeveloper 10.1.3.3.0 and its pre-configured WebCenter OC4J.
We had some issues with the JSF portlet-bridge and opened tar's, but these we're resolved by Oracle.

I have successfully deployed the sample portlet files contained in portlet-container.zip. I also then tested that it was possible to include the lottery page example within my portlet, this worked without a problem as I could configure my page to use the lottery.jsp.
I have created an application using Jdeveloper and deployed this to the application server to test as a stand alone app and it runs fine. The next stage was to use this in portal. After repeating the steps that i used for the example it was not visible within portal and thus i could not add it to my page. There were no errors at all when setting it up as a portal although.....when i looked in the detailed refresh log i saw:
"0 portlets from provider" listed against my entry. This is an obvious problem and as a result of this it is not showing as a portlet that can be used however without any errors shown it is difficult to know what to try next.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Tony

    Jdev 10.1.3

Yes, psadmin worked. My command was:
    psadmin register-portlet -u amadmin -f password.txt -p portal1 -g myapp.ear
I think that bypasses the file size, not completely sure. I found several files called web.xml and changed them all but it did not make any difference to deploy portlet on the console
So I think this is the right answer.
    Thanks

  • A error occured when I deploy a portlet to jetspeed2

In the portlet I connected MSSQL ,and it can run successfuly in the Pluto which embedded in creator2 .
But a error occured when I deploy a portlet to jetspeed2.
I looked for some solutions during the internet, and the problem may be caused by JDBC.

    Thanks !

Googling shows that a lockdown folder is only avaialbe for jailbrokem iOS Devices. Jailbreaking voids the Apple warranty and you will not get any help from Apple including from the Apple forum.

  • Deploy jsr168 portlet in weblogic

    Hi,
I'm developing a jsr168 portlet that I would like to be able to deploy in the Weblogic Portal (among others).
The problem is, after much searching, that I can't figure out how to do it.
In Websphere I just deploy the .war file through the portal administration web interface and away I go.
In jetspeed2 I just drop the .war file in the deploy folder and it gets deployed.
Is there anything similar for Weblogic?
    I've currently got 8.1 SP4 installed.
I've seen and even tried the portletPreparer tool but I can't get it to work (dependencies on bea classes that I can't find).
Any help or tips on how to deploy a portlet in a .war file would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Eric

    Hi,
Generally while creating a jar file for deplyong a EJB on an App Server, create a folder called META-INF and copy all your xml files to this folder
this command could be part of your build.xml if ur using ant
    mkdir build build\META-INF
    copy *.xml build\META-INF
Then compile ur java files and then create the required jar or ear file for deployment.
    Rgds,

  • Deploy auotonomy portlets in weblogic 9.2

Hi. I would like to deploy autonomy portlets within the sample Groupspace portal in weblogic 9.2.
I have extracted the autonomy portlets that is shipped with the installation, but I'm not sure where to place these portlets and what changes I have to make in configuration files - if any - to have the portlets available in the console and the Groupspace portal.
    Thanks a lot.

Deployment directions for the Autonomy portlets can be found here:

  • Deploy jde portlets into webcenter

can anyone enlighten us about the way to deploy JDEdwards Portlets (Self service portals) into webcenter server(weblogic),
share if you have any docs related, it will be really helpful

You'll have to consult some of the JDE documentation for setting up portlets, but the basic procedure should be this:
    1) Set up your JDEdwards portlets to be served - consult the JDE documentation for making portlets availble.
    2) Register the JDE portlet producer with your WebCenter application. (You'll have to do this for each environment, with a warning that you will likely need to set up secure communications between your WebCenter app / WebLogic install and your JD Edwards environment.)
    3) Once the producer is set up (both JDE and any secure communications), then registered with your WebCenter app you should be able to access the JDE portlets through the resource catalog.
That's the basics - but there's quite a bit of work to do behind the basics. :-)
