Deploying Crystal Reports with IIS - Load Report Failed

Hi
We have installed Crystal Reports Developer XI release 2 with Visual Studio 2005 to implement a very simple app that allows a crystal report to be loaded via the web. This works perfectly fine when I publish my build from Visual Studio 2005 (using the built in cystal controls) and go view in browser.
Everything looks fine when I run the app from Visual Studio by clicking view in browser - the crystal report loads and everything is how it should be.
When I publish the build on our production server (a Windows 2003 server running IIS6) I get the error: Load Report Failed
A full detailing of this error can be found on this forum post: http://aspadvice.com/blogs/rjdudley/archive/2005/05/18/2591.aspx
where many other people are having the same issue.
I have struggled for a very long time to find a solution to this, how do I resolve this issue?
when I try to view the .net 2.0 project from a browser running through IIS It displays the business objects toolbar but returns the error: Load Report Failed
When I run this in my development environment directly from Visual Studio 2005 it works perfectly fine and loads the report.
The report path is perfectly fine and correct, we have permissions on all folders for read, write and execute for both general user / admin accounts and IIS accounts on the Windows 2003 Server.
We also have full permissions on c:/temp and c:/windows/temp
What else can I do to make this work!
Many thanks and awaiting your reply

Yes I too have been fighting this problem. I was using a XML Data file and schema file for my u201Cdatabase templateu201D in the report. I would then run my query using the .NET SQLClient then fill the report with my dataset table using the SetDataSource method from the ReportDocument object.
I tried both embedded and runtime loaded reports all worked fine on my development machine but would NOT work on my production server. I use all the server installs, played with user rights, registering DLLu2019s still nothing.  I went as far as creating a winform app to fix the problem. I then had exactly the same problem, I was catching the error and it originated from the viewer control in both winform and webforms.
What finally worked for me was to attach to the database using OLE DB instead of XML/schema (xml/xsd) datasource then pasting my SQL Query into the database connection command this gave me the fields to build the report. I actually used the u201CSet Database Locationu201D Dialog in Crystal Reports so I didnu2019t have to redesign my report. This dialog works very weird but I managed to figure it out. I then used an embedded report and all seem to be well. I think there is a problem with the Crystal Reports .NET Server Install and Merge Modules used with .NET with XML files, but I cannot be sure, all I know is this worked for me.
I am concerned that if my database server is moved or renamed my report might break because the server connection is embedded in the report, but for right now it is working. I thought that was the reason for using the xsd file was to eliminate the dependence on a server connection in the report.
Good luck and I hope this helps you fix your problem too. If it does please let me know I have see so many reports of people asking questions about this problem and it seems like most are left hanging.

  • Crystal Reports with VS2005 - Load Report failed Error....

    Post Author: rajeshvijayan

    Hi,
I am running Crystal Reports viewer on IIS6.0 and windows server 2003, which was installed using the redistributable package that comes along with Visual Studio 2005. We open these reports through a web based application 1 which is run on a different application pool on IIS. We have about 3 to 4 other web applications runing on the same IIS. All the other Web applications are working fine.
This  web application 1 has 2 parts - one is the normal data display quiries from the back end SQL server 2005 and the other is the Crystal Reports which also quires data from SQL Server 2005. At times i find that these reports all of them throw an error - Load Report Failed. At the same time the Part 1 of this application does work fine in showing the data that is queried from the database. Moreover at this stage, I dont find any errors in the Event viewer. If i restart this application pool alone, the reports starts working fine again.
I had gone through a few of the news groups and have made all the necessary permission related changes like the TEMP Folder, ASP.NET temporary folder, the folder in which the crystal reports is placed etc but still the same error throws up after some point in time. Wanted to know if there is any special configuration required on the Application pool when it comes to Crystal Reports. We have bout 10 to 15 users using this application for testing and it only throws this error at times and not always.
Looking forward to any kind of solution from your side.
    Regards
    Rajesh

  • Converting a Crystal Report with Many Sub-Reports into CF Report Builder

I am trying to rewrite a Crystal Reports report which has 11
subreports in CF Report Builder. In the CR report, each subreport
has it's own report footer seciton. I have not been able to find
anything in CF Report Builder that allows me to do the same. Is CF
Report Builder capable of producing a report with multiple
    subreports?

Having successfully created a report with 5 or 6 subreports
(with each sub-report containing a multiple sub-sub reports) I can
say with confidence, "Yes you can." However the real question you
    should ask is, "
Should I create a report with multiple sub-reports in CF
ReportBuilder?" And the answer to that is.... NO, WHAT ARE YOU
    CRAZY!
If you have something that works in Crystal Reports I would
suggest you stick with that. Otherwise you're setting yourself up
for a lot of headaches. Now maybe it was because I started using
the report builder that came with MX7, but it seems there are still
quite of few bugs that will leave you shaking your fist at your
computer. If however you do continue and do the CF Report Builder
route, be prepared for your application to crash unexpectedly, and
for many things to not work they way you expect them to. And if you
ever need help good luck. Take the fact that you had difficulty
finding good documentation as a sign of how little Adobe supports
    this product.
CF Report Builder is fine for very simple reports, but don't
get fancy with it, you'll only regret your decision in the
    end.

  • Crystal 10 Reports fail with error: "Load Report Failed"

    Hi,
this seems to be a mystery. A client has Crystal 10 reports run from a Visual Studio 2003 application  (.NET 1.1) running fine on and old server.
Once the .NET application is installed on a new Windows 2003 server, all Crystal 10 reports fail with the error message: "Load report failed" Source: CrystalDecisions.CrystalReport.Engine.
I set the worker process in the application pool to "system admin" and all Crystal reports failed. I had thought it was a security issue. I even removed Crystal 10 and installed Crystall XI Developer Edition and all reports raised the exact same error message from CrystalDecisions.CrystalReport.Engine.
Crystal does call the stored procedure to retrieve the data but cannot load the PDF. I have used 3 different physical servers, one Win 2003 64-bit and two Win 2003  32-bit and get the same error.
    Help!
    Thanks

    Hi Mak,
It seems that you are having issue with SDK's.
Post your question in  Business Objects SDK Application Development  ->
.NET Development - Crystal Reports Forum.
That forum is monitored by qualified technicians and you will get a faster response there. Also, all SDK's queries remain in one place and thus can be easily searched in one place.
    Thank you for your understanding,

  • How can I have Main report with a sub-report with in a sub-report??

I have a main report that has about 5 subreports, almost like a dashboard.  I need to make one of those subreports contain another subreport.
I don't have the option to add a sub-report with in my sub-report, so what I thought would work is remove my sub-report from my main report, then add my new sub-report, then add that report back to my main report.
Everytime I add the sub-report that has a sub-report to my main report I lose the second sub.
From what I've read on the internet is you can't have a sub-report contain another sub-report.  What some say is you can hyperlink that second sub report.
When I setup my hyper link to open the second sub-report I'm prompted to re-enter my report parameters.
Can some help me link a sub-report to a sub-report or show me how to pass a date range parameter in my hyper link so the reports just opens up?
    I'm using CR IX R2
    Thanks

    Nate,
You are dealing with a product limitation.  Crystal cannot have nested subreports within a sub report.
You can generally use shared variables between sub reports to achieve your desired result

  • Interactive report with detail sub-report on the same page

    Hi all,
I'm fairly new to APEX, sorry if my question is too obvious. I'm using Apex 4.0.2 on top of Oracle 11.2.
I have an interactive report listing the content of a table. Since there are many columns in that table I would the report to show only a few identifying columns and the complete record currently selected being displayed using another report in a separate region on the same page.
The "Link Column" on the interactive report does almost that except that it jumps on another page; I would like to simply have a sub-report updated with the selected data instead of a new page displayed. Does anyone know how to do that?
    Thanks for your help,
    Chris

    Chris,
this sounds like what I normally do in my referential data.
I use the wizard to create "form with report"
I make sure that both regions (the form and the report) will be set on the same page number
then I check/change the order of the regions (report first, form second)
then I set the form to display in column 2
    regards,
    Richard
P.S. the report only shows enough columns to recognize the records. the form shows all records

  • ORA-06502 on  'SQL query' report with sort in 'Report Attributes'

    Hi All,
We get the next error if we set sorting on a column in a 'Report' based on a 'SQL query'. Removing the sort, error disappeares:
    failed to parse SQL query:
ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: NULL index table key value
    Any suggestions?
    Erik

    Erik,
Thanks, this explains it. By specifying the request as part of your URL you run into the recently uncovered issue. The request you're setting is REMFROMLIST and ADD2LIST. You probably either have links that include those requests or you have branches where you specify them. Either way, in order to get reports sorting to work, you'll have to make sure that the request strings are not part of your URL. This is a work-around and the upcoming HTML DB patch release will solve this issue.
One way of avoiding this is to have computations on the previous pages that set a napplication level or page level item to the REMFROMLIST and ADD2LIST values and then you can use those items for your conditions that are currently evaluating those strings.
Hope this helps and sorry for the inconvenience,
    Marc

  • CR Server - Report with multiple sub reports prompts for SQL connection for

I have a report published in CR Server. The Report has four subreports. When the report is run from CR Server, the initial SQL Server connection log in is automatically handled by the log in details in CR Server, but the report then prompts for SQL Server log in four times, presumably for each sub report.
How can I get rid of these SQL login prompts?

Yes - it looks like it might have been to do with the contents of the ".sqldeveloper" directory. Probably SQL Developer may have got confused with me running the same SQL on the same database under different users.
We create a read-only user to carry out queries against the live schema. This read-only user has only select privileges and no insert/update/delete privileges.
    Thanks for the feedback

  • "Load report failed" error with VS 2010 upgrade

I have a report system that has been running nicely for a few years. Today, I upgraded it to use the latest Crystal from Visual Studio 2010. I installed the .net framework 4.0, installed the Crystal runtime (64 bit), and updated the web site with slightly revised code to use the new stuff. Now, reports that worked yesterday fail with the 'load report failed' error. A little research shows that the file name passed to the report engine is correct (and is the same as it has always been). I see that rpt files are being created in windows\temp each time a report is requested, so it seems that the report file is being found.
The code change I made was to use the new ExportToHttpResponse method.
When deployed in development and test environments (both 32 bit). this worked perfectly. In production, however, no such luck. I wonder if I have missed a setting somewhere, or if there is something extra to do on a 64 bit server?
Does anyone have a clue for me?
More info - I found the following error in the event log:
The keycode assembly, BusinessObjects.Licensing.KeycodeDecoder.dll, cannot be loaded.
... which I thought was interesting until I noticed the same error occurs on my dev machine, where the reports are working.
I also used process monitor to check the dlls loaded on the production box, and they all seem to be the latest version. I tried using the 'modules' utility on my production box, but it did not pick up the Crystal stuff (or any of my web stuff - I wonder if it is a 32-bit only tool?).
Edited by: Ray Novak on Dec 29, 2010 5:12 PM

I just tried this again with the same result. I uninstalled the previous Crystal, deleted all the old folders and reg keys I could find, then installed the new 64 bit redist package. I asigned permissions to the SAP reg key tree. I ended up with the same result: "Invalid file name". There were new files created in the temp folder for each report request, so I can tell that my.rpt files are being found.
I used process monitor to see what was happening, and here are the results that seem interesting:
RegOpenKey     HKU\.DEFAULT\Software\SAP BusinessObjects\Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0     NAME NOT FOUND
RegOpenKey     HKU\.DEFAULT\Software\SAP BusinessObjects\Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0     NAME NOT FOUND
IRP_MJ_CREATE     C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0\Common\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win64_x64\secSSO.dll.2.Config     NAME NOT FOUND
FASTIO_NETWORK_QUERY_OPEN     C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0\Common\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win64_x64\SmAgentAPI.dll     NAME NOT FOUND
Since it seemed to be trying to create files in the \win64_x64 folder, I allowed the process full access, but it didn't help. It was also looking for SmAgentAPI.dll which does not seem to exist on my system.

  • Receiving Error when running Crystal reports with Images in WebSphere 6.1

I am designing a report with a sub report that displays images via (BLOBS). The images are between 10-20 kb in size and there could be up to 200 images in the report.
There are no problems when I run the report using Java 1.5 with Tomcat 5.5 server and JDBC connection (using ojdbc14.jar) to an Oracle 10g database.
It seems that if I attempt to run the same report on a WebSphere 6.1 environment, the below error is encountered (stack trace is below)
    I am using Crystal 2008 (ver 12.0.0.683).
Based on the stack trace, I think it is either an IBM JDK  javax.* package compatibility issue or the current version of Crystal reports (no service packs installed - current client environment) has a known issue with Websphere.
I searched the forums for any similiar issues but could not find one.
Could installing Service pack 3 solve this issue or is there another possibility?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for your reply.
The answer to your question concerning if Websphere is a clean install is no.  The client has other applications running on that server.  We do not have access to that server other than the log files and I requested information as to what other applications are on the server.
We did try adding a known working version of the IIOMetadata class in the ear file and deploying it in the hopes that  class will be loaded before using any other version.  Unfortunately, we receive the posted errors.  Which may mean that a different version of the class has already been loaded in memory and that is the one being accessed.  A request would have to be made to the client for a shutdown and restart of Websphere in determining if that may be the case.  Since there are other applications running, coordination and communication to the other application owner will need to be done first.
Any additional ideas will be appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Tony.
