Deploying Flash player with Active Directory Group Policy

I manage hundreds of computers at several different locations
and have the nightmare of updating Flash Player everytime a new
version comes out. The file I download from Adobe's site is an .exe
and does not contain a .msi file for Active directpry deployment.
How can I use group policy in Active Directory to deploy this
software to all my computers without me having to individually
touch each machine?

  • Windows Active directory group policy objects

    Like many small to medium businesses, we use Firefox in addition to Internet Explorer. The Windows Active Directory group policy objects we have for IE works nicely in all versions of IE. Firefox on the other hand has stopped playing ball. Any policy files I have found on the Internet simply does not fire when used in Windows Group Policy. We have Windows 2008 R2 servers with Windows 7 clients.
    Does Mozilla have official group policy objects that will work with Windows Active Directory group policy and is supported in Firefox versions 27 onwards? A lot of the material on the Internet are simply workarounds to achieve something simple.
    I believe this may have been asked several times already, but no definitive answer has been supplied to
    resolve the issue to my knowledge.
    Thanks and regards

    To my knowledge, Firefox historically has not had integration with group policy, and third party tools have been required to bridge the gap. You may have found templates that work in one of those tools.
    These threads have links to third party tools, articles, mailing lists, and other resources:

  • Authentication with Active Directory Group in WLS 10.0

    Hi,
    By using the Active Directory authenticator in WLS 10.0, I managed to get connected to the AD and can see the groups and users in the administration console.
    But, I am having troubles setting up the security role(s) in my web app. I can't figure out how to configure it so that I can actually sign in to my web app using an AD group.
    Here are the web.xml & weblogic.xml files:

    <role-name>aduser</role-name>
    <principal-name>ADUserGroup</principal-name>
    </security-role-assignment>
    </weblogic-web-app>
    For the above config, my intention is to give access only the members of ADUserGroup to my webapp. This group is listed in myrealm at WLS as well as members of this group (ADUserGroup). But while trying to login as any members of this group, got 403 error!
    Any siggestion!!
    Thanx in advance!
    Any help would be appreciated!

    Okay, guys, now it seems working as I changed group type from distrubtion to security in Active Directory.

  • Deploying / upgrading Flash Player in Active Directory

    I saw that there was a similar thread a while ago, thought
    I'd post a new one to see if there's any changes. Got some
    questions I hope someone can answer:
    * Does the current MSI package
    (install_flash_player_active_x.msi) work for GPO deployment?
    * Does it uninstall previous versions?
    * Is there an Installshield Tuner like the one for the Adobe
    Reader?
    * Is there a regedit that can disable the AutoUpdate feature
    instead of the mms.cfg ?
    I'm a bit worried about deploying since having read in this
    forum and over @ AppDeploy:
    http://www.appdeploy.com/packages/detail.asp?id=798
    I'm still amazed that proper tools aren't available for
    deployment since most Users in domain environments aren't local
    administrators. With Vista, this is even the default setting in
    non-corprate environments.

    No answer? :(

  • Active Directory Group Policies

    We are having a problem with Active Directory Group Policies crashing FCP 6.0.4. Staff accounts that have Administrator privileges may log in and use the app with no problem. Students who have more restrictive policies may log in once but when they try to log in again, the application will not open. I would like to avoid making Students administrators. We can't figure out which policy is blocking access. Has anyone else had this problem? How are you solving it?

    At the school I teach at part time, we have no problems like you describe. If you'll email me I'll get you in touch with our IT dept and they can tell you how we're set up...

  • Tighter Integration with Active Directory User Groups

    I just wrapped up a Jabber deployment with IM&P 9.1(1) and J4W clients 9.1(3).
    The customer asked me if it is on Cisco's roadmap to allow groups in Active Directory to be pulled into the Jabber client.  The primary business case is to allow those in IT to send out IM blasts to the corporation or certain departments.
    Obviously, this would require a significant amount of development and a much tighter integration with Active Directory, but I need to ask anyway.
    Has something like this been identified and placed on any roadmap?
    Thanks,
    Matthew Berry

    Unfortunately this kind of questions cannot be addressed here, roadmap questions need to go thru official channels for an answer.
    You need to reach your SE/AM for this question.

  • OLM SCORM content issue with FLash Player 9 Active X version 9.0.115

    Hi,
    Does any one have issue completing SCORM online content (flash object) via OLM with FLash Player 9 Active X version 9.0.115 using IE? I have same problem also via mozilla.
    I have two computer one with 9.0.45 and one with 9.0.115. I can complete the online course with version 9.0.45 without any issue but the status always incomplete with version 9.0.115. When using 9.0.115 it seem there is not communication between OLM player and the application (nothing showup in the java console).
    I checked Adobe website and this is what they quoted:
    ActionScript 2 getURL() and ActionScript 3 navigateToURL()calls such as getURL("javascript:myFunction();") fail with live web-server content if the HTML and SWF are in separate domains. This issue appears in Internet Explorer versions 6 and 7.

    Dharma,
    I just tried a piece of flash content using 9.0.115 on iLearning and had no issues, and this should be no different than OLM.
    Is the SCORM Adapter set up and in use with debugging turned on? Do you see information in the java console when running the content using the other version of Flash?

  • Activation Flash Player with AVANT Browser

    Hello, can you help me for this question, please  : I can't activate Flash Player with AVANT Browser.

    Avant has a built in Flash blocker. You may have to disable it. Since it uses three different engines, you'll probably need to have BOTH plug-ins:
    Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)
    Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)
    And I'd follow the steps for IE:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/885448

    although I'm sure the steps will be different for enabling it in Avant.

  • Deploying Flash Player to User environment

    Hi All,
    I've been running into some serious issues with our environment, it seems we have a lot of different versions of Flash Player floating on everyones machine at the moment - I'd like to change this as easily and quick as possible.
    I was writing a script that used the Universal uninstaller to remove all versions of Flash Player then it would install the latest.  However after it runs it will only partially uninstall the older versions of Flash Player, it sometimes will uninstall the whole thing and Install the latest perfectly. I noticed this only happens on the real older versions of Flash (11.2 - 11.6).  After it uninstalls it partially I try to run the (.msi) installer manually and I get an error code 1722 ("There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as Expected") - where after i must run the  msfixit tool(http://support.microsoft.com/mats/program_install_and_uninstall/) to fully remove the program.
    The script goal:
    Remove all versions of Flash Player using the Universal Uninstaller
    Deletes the folders as specified:
              C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
              %appdata%\Adobe\Flash Player
              %appdata%\Macromedia\Flash Player
    Installs latest version 11.9 ActiveX and Plugin
    User Environment:
    Mainly Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise x64
    Currently mixed environment on old versions (11.2 - 11.6)
    Non-admin users
    Deployment plan as of now is Group Policy - later ideally SCUP once SCCM 2012 is setup.
    Also seeking advise to stabalize environment for future deployments, ie: should i disable automatic update and deploy updates accordingly or is there a way to allow the users to get the latest versions of flash.
    Thanks all!

    Hopefully you can find most of the information you need in http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/flash_player_admin_guide.html

  • FCS 1.5 Not all Active Directory groups visible in list

    Hi,
    We just upgraded Final Cut Server to 1.5 and want to make use of Active Directory groups to set permissions in FCS. I've created a few groups in AD which do not appear in the list when I want to add these to Group Permissions. I do see many AD groups but some are not in the list. I can find the group in the Directory application and also with dscl (dscl /Active Directory/domain.tld -read /Groups/fcs-editor).
    Please advice.
    Thanks in advance,
    Martin

    I found a solution, though it might be still temporary. See if you can narrow down your Directory Search Policy. In your AD forest, you might need just one domain for your department, location, etc.
    So, in Directory Utility, click on Search Policy, delete "/Active Directory/All Domains", don't apply yet, but click on the plus sign, and see what specific domains you can choose from there. Do the same to contacts.
    Though still I can see now 1.592 records of groups or users when I run dscl but at least I know that AD administrators can really clean up our groups listings ( some of those groups are not being used) , and try to keep the number under 2,000.
    It has to be a way to increase the default number of 2,000 in Search Policy, but I haven't had time to do that

  • How do i use an active directory group for vpn and not all user

    hi all,
    i have an asa 5515x...
    how do i use a particular group in active directory to have vpn/anyconnect access?  right now i believe it's for all user on my current config,
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    !integrate with active directory
    aaa-server LDAPSERVERS protocol ldap
    aaa-server LDAPSERVERS (vlan192) host 10.0.0.2
    ldap-base-dn dc=company,dc=com
    ldap-scope subtree
    ldap-naming-attribute sAMAccountName
    ldap-login-password 12345678
    ldap-login-dn cn=administrator,cn=Users,dc=company,dc=com
    server-type auto-detect
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    say i want this "vpn-group" object group in AD and my vpn is only anyconnect and no other vpn types.
    thanks for any comment you may add.

    The best way is to use Dynamic Access Policies (DAP). Cisco has a white paper (here) that shows how one can choose the LDAP group as one of the DAP criteria.
    DAP requires the Advanced Endpoint Assessment feature, so your licensing must support that.

  • SharePoint 2013 Active Directory Groups represented as c:0+.w| SID in UserInformation list instead of c:0+.w|Domain\Groupname

    Hi
    We are running on SharePoint Server 2013.When we add AD groups as permissions, we see that the group name is being displayed properly in the permissions. Whereas when I click on the groupname I see the SID with the Sharepoint specific claims characters,
    instead of domain\groupname. I understand that the claims characters are because of claims mode. But I expected domain\groupname instead of SID. Is this the right behaviour.
    When I call SiteData.GetContent web service, I get the SID of the group name instead of the domain\groupname.
    Can someone please clarify?
    Thanks
    Naga

    Hi,
    Yes, the identity claim for an AD group is based on the SID of the group. The claim encoding for an Active Directory group consists of the following sections:
    c:0+.w|<SID>
    •"c" for a claim other than identity
    •"+" for a group SID
    •"." for a string
    •"w" for a Windows claim

    Please get in touch with your AD team and verify if there are any changes applied to the domain controller and there are no network issues.

  • SharePoint 2013 Workflow (SPD 2013) fails for Active Directory Group members

    Hi
    I have a SharePoint 2013 site called "Team Meetings". There are a number of lists and an InfoPath form library.
    The site's SharePoint Group "Team Meeting Members" has two Active Directory groups (All Club Managers and All Club Police) as members. Those two AD groups contain all the people that I want to have  access to the library and list, except for
    a few additional folk who I have made individual members.
    My PROBLEM:
    I  have created a SharePoint 2013 Workflow using SPD 2013 associated with the  Form Library. Workflow is set to start on new or modified item. The first action is to write to history list, then determine the status (Submitted or Pending) of
    the form and go to different Stages depending on that status.
    The workflow works perfectly for any user who has been added directly to the SharePoint group (Team Meetings Members) BUT FAILS at the very first action for anyone who is a member of one of the AD groups. I know the Workflow is fine because I've tested it
    with numerous people who are direct members of the SharePoint Group, but whenever a person who is a member of the AD group tries it the Workflow just fails.
    Here's a print of the info from the Workflow Status page (I don't have access to server logs):
    RequestorId: 4494760f-92ff-2e8c-90d2-cc7df0e6baa4. instance, ActivityExecutor executor, BookmarkManager bookmarkManager) at System.Activities.Runtime.ActivityExecutor.ExecuteActivityWorkItem.ExecuteBody(ActivityExecutor
    Members of the SharePoint Group "Team Meetings Members" have Contribute Access to both the form library and another list that the workflow writes to as well as the Workflow History list (which in SP 2013 uses the credentials of the
    user who started the workflow, unlike 2010 which used System Account).
    All members of the Team Meetings Members group, whether they are individual members or part of one of the AD groups, have no problems opening and saving forms etc. It's just the Workflow that doesn't like them...
    I am stumped. I've spent many hours searching for a reason for this. There are about 200 people in the two AD groups so I really don't want to have to add them all individually - especially when these groups are managed in AD for a whole bunch of other reasons
    and using the AD groups means I'll basically never have to worry about modifying the SharePoint access permissions.
    Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening and what I can try to fix it?
    Mark

    Hi Lars,
    I'm afraid not so far but we are trying a few things today so I will post back with results.
    First thing we are doing is making the AD Group universal because one of our (external provider) gurus remembers seeing something about that. He also sent me a link to a post where they were talking about earlier
    versions but having similar issues and their solution was to make sure the app pool account has sufficient permissions in AD::
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/27a547da-5cc0-49d7-8056-6eb40b4c3242/failed-to-start-workflow-access-is-denied-exception-from-hresult-0x80070005-eaccessdenied
    This part of that thread looks interesting but we haven't checked it yet as were trying the universal setting first:
    "If the users participating in the workflows have been added to the SharePoint site via Active Directory groups, SharePoint has to update the user’s security token periodically by connecting to
    the domain controller. By default, the token times out every 24 hours. But if the application pool account did not have the right permissions on the domain controller to update the user’s token, user will keep getting the access denied error. The error was
    intermittent because when the user browsed to any page other than the workflow form, the token was getting updated successfully.
    You can try to fix it through granting the application pool account the appropriate permission by adding the account to the group “Windows Authorization Access Group” in Active Directory."
    I'll update when we try these ideas. If you have any luck please do the same.

  • Beginners guide to integration with Active Directory?

    Hi (complete beginner to this, but a quick learner)
    I don't know where to start with regards to getting the Macs on our network connecting like the PCs. Currently we have about 100 Macs on 10.4.x that are bound to the AD using Directory Access - users can log in, but that's about as far as integration goes. Their home folders do not "map" to the corresponding folders on the Macs, and we (as administrators) have no control over the Mac network users like we would have the local Mac users.
    I've been asked to look into this issue, and along with creating new modular 10.5.x system builds for all our Macs (different hardware, different software needs, different physical locations), I need to know what the next steps are. I have no experience of using Mac OS X Server or Active Directory. Besides telling me to ask the IT department to hire a Mac professional, what should I be looking into next?
    So far, this is how I think the process goes:
    1) Ensure I have solid modular system builds ready to go for the different macs/different classrooms.
    2) Get an Xserve for IT.
    3) Have Open Directory integrate with Active Directory, so that the same access controls/permissions are applied to the Mac users as they are the Windows users (including Finder access controls, Application controls, folder mapping etc) - *this is where I need guidance*.
    4) Push out the system builds to the Macs on the network
    5) Connect the Macs using Open Directory...
    6) ...
    As you can see, my knowledge kind of peters out towards the end there; is this a realistic undertaking for me (a classroom technician who happens to use Macs - NOT trained in any of this) and the Mac-phobic IT department (who would prefer switching all of our workstations to PC)? Are we going to have to bite the bullet and get some expensive consultants in?

    And that is about as far as the Apple plugin will take you. In order to do more you need to either extend schema (very scary), look at third party products like Centrify (very expensive), or look at getting an OS X Server and implementing the "magic triangle" in which OS X attributes are managed in OD while users, groups, and password are managed by AD.
    I've been asked to look into this issue, and along with creating new modular 10.5.x system builds for all our Macs (different hardware, different software needs, different physical locations), I need to know what the next steps are. If you go the route of OS X Server and MCX settings, make life easy on yourself and build one common build. Then limit app access based on your groups. That way you can simplify the number of images you maintain down to one (provided you have appropriate licensing).
    So far, this is how I think the process goes:
    1) Ensure I have solid modular system builds ready to go for the different macs/different classrooms.
    See above. But if you need to, look at InstaDMG
    2) Get an Xserve for IT.
    Yep. But if you are only doing MCX you might want to look for a cheeper alternative. The Xserve can offer some nice additions, including software update server and Netinstall server among others.
    3) Have Open Directory integrate with Active Directory, so that the same access controls/permissions are applied to the Mac users as they are the Windows users (including Finder access controls, Application controls, folder mapping etc) - *this is where I need guidance*.
    Yep. You are on the money.
    4) Push out the system builds to the Macs on the network
    Push huh. Look at Radmind. Then take a summer off to learn it. Then become god.
    5) Connect the Macs using Open Directory...
    Actually, connect the macs to both AD and OD. This will allow authentication and instantiating through AD and management through OD. Works very well.
    6) ...
    As you can see, my knowledge kind of peters out towards the end there; is this a realistic undertaking for me (a classroom technician who happens to use Macs - NOT trained in any of this) and the Mac-phobic IT department (who would prefer switching all of our workstations to PC)? It is learnable especially with the summer and available hardware. However, supporting the consulting industry is always nice http://consultants.apple.com
