Deploying small JSF app to OC4J 10.13.10

Hi all,
I'm having a small problem deploying my JSF application on oas 10.13.10. Deploying actually works fine but when I try to surf to my app it gives me a HTTP 500 - Internal server error.
When I check the logs in the entreprise manager I see the following error:

my web.xml looks like this:
<servlet>

     <error-page>
          <error-code>500</error-code>
          <location>/ErrorPage.jsp</location>
     </error-page>
The Index.html, which is the welcome page, I can see fine. That page redirects to a page called Validation.jsp (but i redirect to Validation.faces ofcourse) and then the error comes in. Could this have anything to do with my shared libraries? I added the jsf 1.2 libraries to the shared libraries and then I got a different error saying I still miss something else, a javax.faces.FacesFactory (don't know the exact name of the missing class).
Could someone please help me on this? I've been trying several stuff now for 3 days and haven't found any solutions on the net so far.
Thank You!

Hi Frank,
I don't use /faces/ I use the .faces extension but I don't think that it matters wich servlet mapping you use, does it?
About the jsf-impl.jar, as soon as I put any libraries in my .war file (in the WEB-INF/lib directory) my application won't even deploy .. I even tried freshly installing a newer version (10.1.3.3.0) oc4j j2ee containers and tried to deploy both with libraries and without them but still got the same errors.
Isn't there some guide to follow for deploying jsf applications to oc4j j2ee containers? One which describes all the steps? Or maybe some people here that have already deployed such an application (even if it's as small as hello world) could describe how they got it working step by step?
Thanks for your help!
Tom.

as normal there would have a URL link displayed in the weblogic log, is that right? any one can give tips?

Looks like you have a proxy configured, and that proxy (of course) doesn't support routing to 127.0.0.1

You are probably missing the ADF Binding layer - You'll need to figure out which JARs are requiered.
Try looking at your project properties->classpath and libraries and make sure all of them are included.
For example check out the libraries this guy used to run ADF on Tomcat:
    Re: JDev 11.1.1.1.0 + ADF+ BC4J application on Tomcat6
Here is a little tip to help you find out which JAR is holding any class that you are missing:

Make sure you don't include any JSF implementation jars in your web application.

Has anyone been able to deploy ADF JSF project with JHeadstart using JDeveloper 10.1.3.3.0 to Oracle 10G AS 10.1.2.0.2? I'm using window environment. Any feedback is much appreciated. Thank you for your assistance and have a nice day.
    Kind Regards,

    Hi all,
I had also tried out something else...
I am now portalizing the ADF application using PortalFacesBridge and portlet.xml. Then I deploy it on the Local OC4J of my system and expose it as a WSRP Portlet using the url: 'http://hostname:portname/warFileName/info and generating a WSDL URL...
I am then using this WSDL URL to regester this portalized application on the Oracle Portal10.1.4 which i am able to accomplish successfully...
However after regestration, when I try to view this on the portal page, It is throwing the following error:-
Error: Could not get markup. The cookie or session is invalid or there is a runtime exception.
Also I would like to add that this method was working perfectly fine previously...
What might be the clue for this sudden error...
Any kind of help is greatly appriciated... Thanks...

  • Expose JSF app as a remote portlet on OAS 10.1.3.1

    Hello,
We have a requirement to expose our JSF app as a remote portlet via WSRP.
Our production platform is OAS 10.1.3.1 SOA and we are using JDeveloper 10.1.3.1 for the development.
We are new to the portal technologies, but what we understood reading the docs is that we must use WEB Center framework to expose the JSF app as a remote portlet. Is this correct?
Also, how can we install the WEB Center to our OAS 10.1.3.1 SOA ?
    thank you

Hi, to expose your JSF application as a portlet you wil need to use the WebCenter Portlet Bridge, this is our implementation of JSR 301:
Oracle WebCenter was released with OracleAS 10.1.3.2 and requires a minimum of ADF 10.1.3.2 runtime libraries, you can either deploy the required ADF Runtime Libraries to your 10.1.3.1 OC4J or upgrade to OracleAS 10.1.3.3 which is the latest release. You can find more information here:
    Cheers,
    Mick.

  • Deploy ADF application to standalone OC4J 11g

    Hi people!
I found some threads into the forums that deal with the subject but I did not find any solution, so I post a new thread...
In fact, I'd like to deploy a "war" on a standalone oc4j 11g.
The application was built with jdev 11g TP4.
I can't use the ADF runtime Installer of jdev, so I have to copy all the files by myself, but the problem is that I do not find the files in jdev11/BC4J/lib/ that I have to copy in oc4j/BC4J/lib...
    There is no adfcm.jar, bc4jdomorcl.jar, etc ...
Is it normal ? Could someone indicate me how to configure the standalone oc4j 11g in order to deploy my "war" ?
    Thanks a lot,
    romain.

    Hi,
    TP4 doesn't have a standalone OC4J.
Try to start embedded oc4j from jdeveloper in standalone mode.
see e.g. Re: Can Jdeveloper TP4 deploy apps to OC4J standalone TP4
BTW: The production release 11g is announced within next week and this release will contain Weblogic Server 10gR3 instead of OC4J.
    JDeveloper 11g release this month?

  • Initial forward in RichFaces app gets 404, but simple JSF app works fine

(I asked about this on the RichFaces forum, but perhaps this isn't a RichFaces issue.)
've just started to look deeply into JSF. I'm deploying some test apps to WebLogic 9.2.2. I have two simple apps I'm testing. One is a plain JSF app, and the other is the "echo" RichFaces app.
When I go to the URL for the plain JSF app, the "index.jsp" successfully forwards to the main page, and it shows up.
When I go to the URL for the RichFaces "echo" app, I immediately get a 404.
I added some debug, so I know that it executes my "index.jsp". I also set a breakpoint in org.ajax4jsf.webapp.BaseFilter.doFilter(), and I see it hit that. I also added a debugging lifecycle listener.
So, with this debug enabled, I get this:
[DEBUG] BaseFilter - Filter start request processing at 12/31/07 12:05 PM for uri: /AjaxEcho/faces/echo.jsp
[DEBUG] BaseFilter - Filter request output to XML
    BeforePhase: RESTORE_VIEW 1

    BeforePhase: RENDER_RESPONSE 6
    AfterPhase: RENDER_RESPONSE 6
[DEBUG] BaseFilter - Finished request processing total time 31ms for uri: /AjaxEcho/faces/echo.jsp
As that didn't tell me anything, I enabled debug for "com.sun.faces" and "org.ajax4jsf", which produced the output following this. I still don't see any obvious clues here.
[DEBUG] BaseFilter - Filter start request processing at 12/31/07 1:57 PM for uri: /AjaxEcho/faces/echo.jsp

I got this working, but it sure seems odd to me. In the working JSF app, I didn't notice that the forward from "index.jsp" references "/faces/main.jsp", even though "main.jsp" is in the root of the app. I changed my RichFaces app to do the same, so it references the "fake" root directory of "/faces". Now it works fine, it's just odd looking. I didn't notice this being called out in the JSF book (Complete Reference).

  • JSF app as a remote portlet on OAS 10.1.3.1

    Hello,
We have a requirement to expose our JSF app as a remote portlet via WSRP.
Also, how can we install the WEB Center to our OAS 10.1.3.1 SOA ?
    thank you

    Hi,
In one of our current projects we're using SOA Suite and WebCenter. For example, we're exposing a JSF page containing a custom-built human workflow tasklist as remote portlet.
We have installed a separate WebCenter AS 10.1.3.2.0 besides the AS SOA Suite. (See: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/101320ws.html) and patched it to 10.1.3.3.0. For development we use JDeveloper 10.1.3.3.0 and its pre-configured WebCenter OC4J.
We had some issues with the JSF portlet-bridge and opened tar's, but these we're resolved by Oracle.

  • Deploy .war file directly to OC4J

is it possible to deploy a .war file directly with having to create a .ear file

The command line deployment requires an EAR file; so you can just
package the WAR in a EAR. However you can do the following to deploy an WAR file:
Following are the steps involved in deploying a WAR file in Oc4j.
    1. Copy the file to D:\oc4j\j2ee\home\applications where d:\oc4j is the location OC4J is installed in.
    copy mywar.war D:\oc4j\j2ee\home\applications
    2. Open the application.xml file in D:\oc4j\j2ee\home\config directory
and add the following after the <web-module id="defaultWebApp" path="../default-web-app" />
    line:
    <web-module id="mywar" path="../applications/mywar.war" />
    3. Open the default-web-site.xml file in D:\oc4j\j2ee\home\config
directory and add the following after the <default-web-app application="default" name="defaultWebApp" /> line:
    <web-app application="default" name="mywar" root="/mywar" />
    great that works
but with the OC4J developer preview you have to modify http-web-site.xml
    as opposed to default-web-site.xml
(guess they changed the name of the file in the newer release)

  • Can't get jsf working on OC4J

    Hello,
I have been trying to get the jsf examples to run OC4J 10g Preview 2. I deployed the jsf-cardemo war file, changed the application.xml and http-web-site.xml. I think the problem is with the taglibs for basic html and jsf core. In the web.xml, I added taglib tags to point them to web-inf/tld.
I am getting error message java.lang.ClassCastException
    at chooseLocal2e_jsp._jspService(_chooseLocal_2e_jsp.java:51)
    SRC:/chooseLocale.jsp:50
    Line 50 of the file is f:loadBundle basename="carstore.bundles.Resources" var="bundle"
Please help me get this working properly.
    Thanks
    Twanna

U must create new project from existing source or from war file, and then delete from your WEB-INF/lib folder jsf-ri.jar and standard.jar and then include in project properties-->Library .. Add JSTL library in your project. You also can find example on address:
    http://otn.oracle.com/sample_code/products/jdev/10g/jsf/index.html
    Good luck!

  • Issues with deploying BC4J/JSP applications on OC4J

To everyone who's been having problems deploying BC4J/JSP applications to OC4J.
We are aware that you're having problems deploying to OC4J, and we're working on them. OC4J was not available in time for us to add support for OC4J deployment to the JDeveloper 3.2.3 release. In addition there are some bugs in the first release of OC4J that have an impact on BC4J applications. This note describes the issues, and how we plan to address them.
    Issue 1: Classpath problems
People have been getting "class not found" or "properties file not found" errors when they try to run their JSP. The answer is to make sure that all relevant archives and your JSP's .properties file are in the OC4J classpath - there's a note addressing the .properties file problem at http://technet.oracle.com:89/ubb/Forum99/HTML/000028.html. In general though, setting up the classpath can be tricky.
Issue 2: JSP TAG NOT RELEASED ON END TAG. SAME TAG IS REUSED.
This issue affects JSP pages whose behaviour relies on a tag instance being cleaned up as a result of release() being called.
Your tag will not be released, and subsequent instances of the tag will reuse the first instance, rather than instantiating a new
    one.
    Issue 3:JSP SCRIPTABLE VARIABLE NULL
A scriptable variable set in a tag cannot be accessed by a scriptlet. For example, this JSP code will throw a
NullPointerException, because the scriptlet cannot access the value of resultRow:
    <jbo:Row id="resultRow" action="CURRENT" datasource="customer_vo1" />
    <%
    session.putValue("FIRSTNAME", resultRow.getAttribute("Firstname").toString());
%>Workaround: Add a line of code at the beginning of the scriptlet to explicitly get the variable's value from the page context, for
    example:
    <jbo:Row id="resultRow" action="CURRENT" datasource="customer_vo1" />
    <%
    resultRow = (oracle.jbo.Row)pageContext.findAttribute("resultRow");
    session.putValue("FIRSTNAME", resultRow.getAttribute("Firstname").toString());
    %>
    What we plan to do
To address issue 1, we're currently testing a utility that installs the BC4J runtime libraries to OC4J, and provides a script to start OC4J with the correct classpath. We plan to post this by the end of this week, along with instructions for deploying a BC4J application to OC4J; deployment will be a lot simpler after running the utility.
To address issues 2 and 3, we're working on a second utility that installs BC4J runtime and provides a fix to the JSP compiler. We plan to post this second utility by the end of next week.
We do apologise for the problems you're having; please bear with us as we work on making it easier for you to deploy BC4J applications to OC4J.
    Thanks
    Blaise

Hi, I have been trying desparately to deploy
a simple example JDeveloper application for months and months.
I HAVE NEVER BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN DEPLOYING ANYTHING.
I don't know much about webservers and I am relying
on the instructions from JDeveloper help and this website.
I have already tried Apache, and WebLogic
because there are instructions in the JDev help.
    No luck.
Now I am trying to use OC4J on 9ias because there are instructions.
I have read the instructions about how to install a BC4J
app on OC4J about 25 times, but I can't get this thing to work.
It works fine inside of JDeveloper.
I create a BC4J project using the scott
schema (just the dept and emp tables).
Then I create an empty project for my JSP client.
I choose JSP Application from the web
objects and it connects to my BC4J project.
As I say, when I run it in JDeveloper, there is no problem.
In the instructions for installing BC4J
in OC4J, it first says install JDev 3.2.3 and OC4J.
This is done, and it tested fine.
Then it says to install the deployment software.
    No problem.
But when I deploy the app according to the instructions,
it just hangs (like Rick Wang's program did).
The main.jsp page loads and displays correctly,
but when I click on the links to the DeptView.jsp
    or EmpView.jsp it just hangs.
Here is the entire batch file I'm using
    to start OC4J: cd c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home

    pause
The file al_BC4J.jar contains my application.properties file
and my connections.properties file, as well as my business components.
All of the files referenced in my classpath are
    present in my c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home\lib directory.
I noticed that Raghu's classpath contains a file called jdev.jar
So does the classpath of another fellow who says
he was successful in deployment (his name is Jeffrey Jackson).
I searched my JDev_3.2.3 for this file and found it nowhere.
I also searched my OC4J home and my 9iAS for this file and
    found it nowhere.
It is nowhere on my C:\.
    Is this file necessary?
I will also try removing my application.properties file
and my connections.properties file from my BC4J .jar file
and put them in a separate .jar file at the root level (as Raghu did).
However, Jeffery Jackson did not do this and says he was
    successfull in deployment.
***DO I NEED TO JAR UP ANY OF MY THE FILES FROM the JSP
    FOLDER IN JDevHome\myhtml???***
***or place them in the classpath?***

    Hi Benjamin.
Can u explain more detail about the deployment..
I also use JDev and want to do like you do (that is deploy to 9iAS using JDev.
I tried to create new connection via Remote DCM..

I also read & tried the article that u suggested..

    So, my questions are:
1)In step one, where in EM should i install Oc4jDcmServlet.ear? in OC4J_Portal(the same place i deploy jpdk)?

2)I download JDev into my drive C.
    and i did found /dcm/lib/Oc4jDcmServlet.ear
I not sure what to type..and where should i run the command..
In the article,it run from c:\winnt\system32\cmd.exe.

  • Jdev tp4: deploying another .war to embedded oc4j

    Hi,
it is possible to deploy another .war to embedded oc4j (started throughout Jdeveloper), so this another web app becomes available at the same time as current work space ?
    If so, then how ?

    No.
Only one app is supported by the embedded oc4j. You can start the stand alone version of oc4j, there you can deploy more applications.
