Deployment of dimensions/cube

I've got some dimensions and a cube which I successfully deployed some time ago. Whenever I now try to deplay any of the dimensions or the cube I only get error messages and the deployment fails.
Here's an example of an error message when I tried to drop the cube:
ORA-06550: line 2, column 1:
PLS-00201: identifier 'CWM2_OLAP_CUBE.DROP_CUBE' must be declared
ORA-06550: line 2, column 1:
PL/SQL: Statement ignored
I'm using OWB 10g R2 on Oracle 10g R2 (latest patch level).
Any ideas what could be the problem? Solutions?
Regards,
Jörg

Try first dropping the cube, then do a "create". That seems to be an OWB problem and that is how I deal with it.

    TIA

Ragnar is quite correct. When you design a cube there is an associated table generated and FK constraints are created that link back to the related dimension objects and their associated tables. The OLAP dimensions and cubes are just pieces of metadata and don't actually exist as first class objects in their own right. Most importantly don't confuse OLAP dimensions with relational dimensions that are created to support query re-write.
In Control Center if you check the Table node in your tree you should see a list of tables that are the relational source objects for your dimensions and cubes. Deploy the dimension tables first, then deploy the dimensions using the "Deploy All" option. Lastly depoly your table followed by the cube.
In Control Center it is possible to force OWB to deploy all related objects. I think it is on one of the menu options within Design Center. I will see if I can find the exact details when I next have OWB open.

  • How to estimate size of dimension & cube

    Hi,
Is there any guideline avialable to estimate the space required for a dimension or for a cube? I mean if a dimension table is of 200GB, how much space I will be needing to create a dimension in analytic workspace?
Also, when we refresh the dimension/cube, are used spaces freed and re-used?
Thanks a lot in advance for your help.
    AKG

You could try using the new 10g diagnostisc tuning advisor : ADDM
    In SQLPlus do the following:
    1) exec dbms_workload_repository.create_snapshot();
    2) run your AWM build
    3) exec dbms_workload_repository.create_snapshot();
    4) run the following script:
    set long 1000000
    set pagesize 50000
    column get_clob format a80
    spool tuning_report.txt
    select dbms_advisor.get_task_report(task_name, 'TEXT', 'ALL')
    as ADDM_report
    from dba_advisor_tasks
    where task_id=(
    select max(t.task_id)
    from dba_advisor_tasks t
    , dba_advisor_log l
    where t.task_id = l.task_id
    and t.advisor_name='ADDM'
    and l.status= 'COMPLETED');
    spool off
this will generate something like the following:
    FINDING 1: 100% impact (343 seconds)
Significant virtual memory paging was detected on the host operating system.
RECOMMENDATION 1: Host Configuration, 100% benefit (343 seconds)
ACTION: Host operating system was experiencing significant paging but no
particular root cause could be detected. Investigate processes that
do not belong to this instance running on the host that are consuming
significant amount of virtual memory. Also consider adding more
    physical memory to the host.
RECOMMENDATION 2: DB Configuration, 100% benefit (343 seconds)
ACTION: Total PGA memory used was above the specified
"pga_aggregate_target" value for 26% of the time. Consider increasing
your current "pga_aggregate_target". Note that the sum of
"pga_aggregate_target" and SGA size should be less than the physical
    memory available on the host.
RATIONALE: The value of parameter "pga_aggregate_target" was "107 M"
    during the analysis period.
These are a good starting point before turning the Oracle database tuning guide.

  • Plug-in to see graphical representation of dimensions, cubes etc..

    Hi,
    1. In Internet Explorer, to see the various elements like RS, Dimensions, cubes and mappings etc, we need to install a plugin from adobe.com called SVG viewer, else we cant see any of the listed elements in the graphics tabs.
I'm able to instal the plug-in and hence see the elements, but on the adobe site, its says SVG viewer is no longer supported by adobe, though we can download it.
So, is there some other plugin or add-on that can be used for the purpose, which is not discontinued, if so, what is that.
This is not a show-stopper, but I'm just curious.
    Thanks,
    Srinivas.

When Adobe says that SVG viewer is not supported, all that means is that Adobe is not going to release any new patches or releases for SVG viewer. The last version available on their site still works with IOP. Over time, this svg viewer will get replaced with the Oracle EPM specific addins.

  • Help - Deploying SNOWFLAKE dimensions to Discoverer

    Hi all,
Have any of you been able to deploy snowflake dimensions to Discoverer? I am consistently getting a validation error that I cannot work around.
I have a multi level dimension implemented as a SNOWFLAKE (and I do not want to implement it as STAR for reasons in my other posts).
    When I derive the dimension I get several item folders (i.e. MY_DIM, MY_LEVEL1TAB, MY_LEVEL2TAB, MY_LEVEL3TAB).
I can deploy the *TAB item folders without problem but when I try to deploy the MY_DIM item folder, I get a validation error message stating:
VLD-3565: The Join used to link Item Folder MY_LEVEL3TAB to other dependent Item Folders is no longer available.
If I check the MY_LEVEL3TAB item folder, there is a valid join defined there.
I have an SR entered also but would love to know if anyone is using SNOWFLAKE dimensions successfully with Discoverer.
    Thanks in Advance,
Mike (who misses Informatica more everyday)

Thanks for the reply. I am able to deploy as snowflake to the database with few problems. I had to recreate my fact tables and then manually delete and readd them to the mappings to get them working (synchronize didn't work - it would leave some internal "junk" in the mapping that prevented the mapping from validating).
My only problem is deploying to Discoverer which seems like its going to be awhile before the bug is fixed by Oracle.
I went to the Snowflake primarily because updates to the STAR version of the dimension actually corrupted the data in many circumstances. Whenever I applied updates to any of the middle levels of the hierarchy, the parent columns would often get nulled out.

    Hi Pavithra123,
As Saurabh said, the issue is related to user 'NT Service\MSOLAP$MEENA' is not able to access 'Adventure Works DW2012' database.
By default, the default account for AS services has only public permission to few databases. If you haven't change the AS services account, or haven't grant the permission for this account, then you cannot deploy the AS project to server.
So in your scenario, to avoid this issue, you can grant the SELECT permission for the default account for AS services to data source DB (Adventure Works DW2012). Or you can change the services account to this domain user who has the corresponding to the
    data source DB.
    Hope this helps.

  • 13 line item dimension cube into BWA?

I have heard earlier that BWA does not support line item dimensions due to swap of data between blades. not sure this is still an issue.
My cube has 13 line item dimensions. For performane reasons, we created 13 line item dimensions as cube storing 240 million records and user want to analuse all this data.
I want to push this line item cube to BWA for better performance and like to know the impact.
    thanks for advance replies.
    Thanks

    texas_user wrote:
My assumption for BWA has no limitations. That's why we spent so much for BWA right?
Rewording Mark Victor Hansen: "Only in imagination, there's no limitation".
Best cases for BWA performance are documented; unfortunately the only link I have on hand is to BIExpert article [Tips and Techniques for Optimal Query Performance with SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator|http://www.bw-biexpertonline.com/article.cfm?id=3665].
    > It should support all navigation included single record reading to whole set of data.
    > I have 300 million of records in cube. We don't know what kind of adhoc analysis user planning to do.
    > We put all 14 fields from base cubes in query allowing user to do anything with data to make better decisions.
    > My question is making 13 line item dimension in cube and putting 300 millions records in BWA improve performance or not?
    > Space or cost is not concern here. Do we able to do it?
    > Does Web intelligence query come back? Or die?
So far there is nothing worrisome in your description. 300M recs is not mind-blowing. The areas of watch-out:
1/ There used to be performance implications with line-item dimensions in the past, when number of records in dimension was higher than number of records in fact table. But it was 2-3 years ago...
2/ Once you put something on top of BW, like BO in your case - you need to check where time is spent, because in the past communication between BI tool and BW used to have impact as well. Make sure you have latest patches there.

  • Delete dimension/cube in Analytic Workspace

Hello, I've created some dimensions and cubes in an analytic workspace using DBMS_AW package. But, How can I delete these objects using a similar methodology? I have not found any procedure like CREATE_AWDIMENSION/CREATE_AWCUBE that helps me to delete the object.
    Thanks by your help.

In 9.2x code stream, having it not in cwm2/all_olap2_dimensions means it will be invisible/unaccessible to the OLAP API but, as you point out, it still exists in the AW, and as such, it still exists in all_olap2_aw_dimensions.
The early comment was a way to potentially "work around" the inability of no automation to "fully" delete it, by suggesting a way to "partially" delete it so as to "hide" the dimension from the OLAP API, without actually deleting it (or any of it's storage, obviously) from the AW.

  • Dimensions & Cubes in OWB

I was just involved in the project of data warehouse using OWB-OBIEE, though in general I was often involved in data warehouse projects over the last few years. And, I am also new in this forum.
I have several questions related to development using the OWB tools:
    1. In general, is it a best practices to use dimensions and cubes in OWB?
    2. Is it common to use just tables (without dims & cubes)?
    3. In the context of the OWB-OBIEE, can OBIEE directly use the Oracle dims & cubes that have been made through OWB? If not, does it mean that using dims & cubes is not a standard in OWB?
    Thanks in advance
    Prat

About "2. Is it common to use just tables (without dims & cubes)?"
Yes, it is. Regretfully. Many customers don't feel at ease / don't want to use DB features and they simply call tables xxx_dim, xxx_fact and fill them like that. While it works you're missing the advantages on defining those objects inside the DB. For a comparisson immagine that you're trying to fill a table via OWB and the table doesn't have a primary key defined on the DB level. You can still connect the columns and perform the load, but you're missing out on enforcing referential integrity and a bit on documentation (no key icon next to the column in OWB).
So in the same way, you can flatten cubes into relational tables, it is common, but it isn't best practice.

  • BOFC / EA: Deployment to MS Cubes, parallel creation universe fails

    Dear SAP BOFC Experts,
we face a problem during the deployment of BOFC data to MS cubes. We would like to create a BOBJ universe with every deployment, so we did following:
    - created a target folder in the CMC
    - in EA Designer, active the checkbox for "Automatically create associated universe" under options of the deployment
    - entered this folder (/webi universes/EA Universes) and the name (EA_Unv_1) of the universe
    - saved deployment, started deployment
    - deployment works fine, but universe creation fails with the message:
"EA_Unv_1' universe creation failed, CMSName is empty"
    - then we found out the the universe designer has to be installed on the server the deployment service runs on. It wasn't, so we installed it and started it with designer.exe /regserver, worked fine. Then we rebooted the deployment server.
    - we tried to deploy again: deployment is ok, but universe creation fails with the same error message.
Any help or idea is highly appreciated!
Thanks in advance & kind regards,
    Bastian

    Hi Bastian,
I wonder if you have resolved the problem with the universe not being created.
I have problem with the Cube Designer creating universe. The messages during cube deployment show that the cube is processed, connection is opened and universe creation started. Then a message appears that universe creation failed.
We have the BOE installed on a different server from the server running SSAS and Cube designer.
