How to estimate size of dimension & cube

Hi,
Is there any guideline avialable to estimate the space required for a dimension or for a cube? I mean if a dimension table is of 200GB, how much space I will be needing to create a dimension in analytic workspace?
Also, when we refresh the dimension/cube, are used spaces freed and re-used?
Thanks a lot in advance for your help.

You could try using the new 10g diagnostisc tuning advisor : ADDM
In SQLPlus do the following:
1) exec dbms_workload_repository.create_snapshot();
2) run your AWM build
3) exec dbms_workload_repository.create_snapshot();
4) run the following script:
set long 1000000
set pagesize 50000
column get_clob format a80
spool tuning_report.txt
select dbms_advisor.get_task_report(task_name, 'TEXT', 'ALL')
as ADDM_report
from dba_advisor_tasks
where task_id=(
select max(t.task_id)
from dba_advisor_tasks t
, dba_advisor_log l
where t.task_id = l.task_id
and t.advisor_name='ADDM'
and l.status= 'COMPLETED');
spool off
this will generate something like the following:
FINDING 1: 100% impact (343 seconds)
Significant virtual memory paging was detected on the host operating system.
RECOMMENDATION 1: Host Configuration, 100% benefit (343 seconds)
ACTION: Host operating system was experiencing significant paging but no
particular root cause could be detected. Investigate processes that
do not belong to this instance running on the host that are consuming
significant amount of virtual memory. Also consider adding more
physical memory to the host.
RECOMMENDATION 2: DB Configuration, 100% benefit (343 seconds)
ACTION: Total PGA memory used was above the specified
"pga_aggregate_target" value for 26% of the time. Consider increasing
your current "pga_aggregate_target". Note that the sum of
"pga_aggregate_target" and SGA size should be less than the physical
memory available on the host.
RATIONALE: The value of parameter "pga_aggregate_target" was "107 M"
during the analysis period.
These are a good starting point before turning the Oracle database tuning guide.
Hope this helps

    Hi
I just need to Find the Size of Dimension Table and Fact Table also .
    Thanks
    Bhanuprakash

Infocube ->Manage -> Contents -> when it as for table name enter /finfocube name and click on no. of entries you will know how many records are in fact table. if you think the cube is being compressed enter /einfocube name
for Dimension enter /D dimension name and click on no of entires. you will know how many records are in dimension.
to know the name of the dimension Infocube ->change -> click on dimensions -> further details about dimensions click on Assign tab
    hope this help!

  • How can we know that size of dimension is more than fact table?

how can we know that size of dimension is more than fact table?
this was the question asked for me in interview

    Hi Reddy,
This is common way finding the size of cube or dimensions or KF.
Each keyfiure occupies 10 Bytes of memory
Each Char occupies 6 Bytes of memory
So in an Infocube the maximum number of fields are 256 out of which 233 keyfigure, 16 Dimesions and 6 special char.
So The maximum capacity of a cube
    = 233(Key figure)10 + 16(Characteristics)6 + 6(Sp.Char)*6
In general InfoCube size should not exceed 100 GB of data
    Hope it answer your question.

  • How we will know that dimension size is more than the fact table size?

how we will know that dimension size is more than the fact table size?

    Hi,
Let us assume that we are going to take Division and distribution channel in a dimension and assume we have 20 distinct values for Division in R/3 and 30 Distinct values for Distribution channel .So Maximum, we can get 20 * 30 records in dimension table and we can take rough estimation of records in the cube by observing the raw data in source system.

  • How do I change the dimensions of an image? The Image Size dialog box will not allow me to change it

How do I change the dimensions of an image? The Image Size dialog box will not allow me to change dimensions.  I am taking an online class and the Image Size dialog box looks different than the one I am seeing in Photoshop CC.  It has the option to change the dimensions.

When you say chage the dimentions, do you mean crop the image and adjust the size of the image at the same time, or do you mean you want to just resize the image?  Can you post a screen shot of what you're trying to do?

  • How to estimate undo tablespace size in 11g?

I found someone document said, use this sql to estimate undo tablespace:
    select (UR*(UPS*DBS))+(DBS*24) as "bytes" from (select value as UR from v$parameter where name='undo_retention'),(select (sum(undoblks)/sum(((end_time-begin_time)*86400))) as UPS from v$undostat),(select value as DBS from v$parameter where name='db_block_size');
but in my 11g database, the "select value as UR from v$parameter where name='undo_retention'" is 0. so above sql is always get 196608(8192*24)
How to estimate undo tablespace size in 11g?
    Thanks very much!

for undo segments size you should turn it to be autoextend on as well undo management set to be AUTO
    i.e
    undo_managment='AUTO'
    for retention see that link
Ora-01555, snapshot too old: rollback segment number 2 with name "_SYSSMU1
BTW as hemant stated leave it to be auto which is good approach but make sure enough space on disk has been
dedicated for undo segments are allowed to grow to the size they need to be based on the requested undo_retention.

  • How to find Size of the fact table?

    hello all
how do i find out the size of the fact table?
Is the size of the fact table is same as size of the cube.
    pls let meknow
    regards
    balji

    Hello Balaji,
To find out size of fact table
    DB02 ->Detailed anaysis -> Fact table name
It will show you the details.
The size of cube is not exactly equal to the size of fact table, but usually as fact table is much more larger than dimension tables, fact table size will give you a fair idea about cube size.
    Hope it helps.

  • How do you size a picture in Photoshop Element 11

How do you size picture's to be sent in a email? On the old version I could figure it out be now on this version I can find where to do this. Also how do you make a collogues in Photoshop Elements 11
Thank you for your help, Jack Frowein

if you are saving your image as jpeg and really dont care much about the pixel dimension and just worry about the file size, I think using lower jpeg compression ratio is a better option.  For example: if i want my image to have really small file size, I would simply use a lower jpeg quality(probably Medium or low) while saving the file.
Another easy solution would be to use Save for web, which shows you enough save options to precisely control your file size and dimension

  • Fact table size of the cube

    BW Gods!
I need to selectively delete data from a cube which holds data from 2001-2006.....say I want to delete data only for 2001. It was suggested to me by pizzaman in one of our earlier threads that BW would decide if the data to be deleted is more than 10% of the cube size and if it is, it would just copy the cube without the data which has to deleted and it would rename the cube. So he suggested that I should find out the fact table size and make sure that there is enough space in my fact tablespace for this operation to go on.
My question is, how do I find out the fact table size of the cube?
How do I find out if there is enough space on fact tablespace for the above said deletion operation to be executed.
I am not too sure whether I have put across the question correctly. Let me know.
    Thank you all in adavance
    Ashwin

You want to make sure you include space for the F fact table and the E fact table, assuming you compress the infocube. If you use DB02 and use wild cards you migh be able to get all teh size info in one shot.
Gnerally, he indices for an InfoCube don't occupy a lot of space, but they do take space.
The default InfoCube table space is PSAFACTD and indics are in PSAPFACTI - not 100% sure that is universal acorss all the different DBs.  Your shop could also have put them in differnt tablespaces altogether.  Probably worth a quick check with your DBAs - they might know that they have lot of space availalbe, and you don't need to take the time to run down the space usage info.
The table copy process will NOT delete the original fact tables unless/until it has successfully loaded to new copy.

  • Checking Image Size and Dimensions

How do I check the size of an image like a Signature or another image without having to save it and then checking it? Is there a way to check it in Safari?

What? I don't see "Inspect Element" anywhere.
Are there any plugins (perhaps at pimpmysafari.com) where we can add functions such as "Properties" for viewing image size and dimensions, as well as "View Image" to view the image by itself? I'm trying to convert from Firefox, but these are a couple of the things getting in the way.

  • How to estimate recovery time from rman backup

how to estimate recovery time from rman backup?
The database is of size 800GB.
the approximate time to backup is 8- 10 hours.

"Recovery time" is : RESTORE DATABASE time + RECOVER DATABASE time.
    RESTORE can be done
    a. in parallel with multiple channels if your backup was created as multiple backupsets
    b. using incremental backups
    c. whether the backups are on
    i. disk
    ii. tape
Alternatively, if you have a Recovery Area with an Incrementally Update backup of the database, you can SWITCH DATABASE almost immediately
    RECOVER depends on
    a. how many archivelogs (in terms of size, not necessarily number) need to be applied
    -- this depends on
    i. transaction volume
ii. the "freshness" of the backups (how recent the backups are)
    b. whether required archivelogs are available on disk (which can be the case if the database backup itself is a very recent backup and archivelogs since then haven't been deleted {whether they have been backed up or not}) OR whether they need to be restored from
    i. disk backup
    ii. tape backup

  • How to estimate tablesize?

    Hi,
I am performing an insert operation Similar to
    Insert into Tablea select * from A;
When I am performing this operation,I am getting an error message unable to extend table space.
Could you please tell me how to estimate how much tablespace need to be allocated?
    Thanks
    Aravindh

If you are doing something like
insert into tableA select * from Athen your additional size needed is at least as big as the size of table A?? (same tablespace etc...)
To know how much free space there is in a tablespace, you can query the view DBA_FREE_SPACE, i.e. something like
    SQL> select tablespace_name, sum(bytes)/1024/1024 MB, sum(blocks)
      2  from dba_free_space
      3  where tablespace_name = (select tablespace_name from user_tables where table_name='T1')
      4  group by tablespace_name
      5  /
    TABLESPACE_NAME                        MB SUM(BLOCKS)
    GEN_TS_ADHOC                         2026      129664
and then to know how many blocks this table approx. needs:
    SQL> select blocks from user_tables where table_name='T1';
        BLOCKS
           221
    SQL>

  • Estimate size of an planned table

    Hi,
I need to estimate size of a table wich has to be created.
I know the Oracle DATA BLOCK SIZE,
    the columns
    and the number of rows..
As I said, the table does not exist in Oracle yet, thats why I can not do following select:
    select bytes/1024/1024 MB from dba_segments where owner = <USER>
    and segment_type = 'TABLE'
    and segment_name = <TABLE_NAME>
I know there is a feature in EM where you can estimate the size of a table...
    Thanks

    Then upgrade your database.
Or use the search feature against the forum (done for you), there is a plenty example how calculate the table size.
    Nicolas.

  • How to APD create on Stock Cube (0RT_C37)??

    Hi,
How to APD create on Stock cube (ort_c37). Pls help me for APD create on non cumulative???
    Thanks

As long as the dimensionality of the cube has the same contents (even if it is in a different order), the reports will continue to work in my experience. If you add a new dimension, the report doesn't have a selection set up for that dimension and therefore is now invalid and all reports must be recreated against that cube. Adding new levels above the leaf level of your dimensions and adding new measures should not corrupt their reports.
I would suspect after a few iterations of losing their reports, your users will learn to test and specify their needs more completely to ensure they have all of the required dimensions.
Alternatively, you can set up one cube that only consists of calculated measures that has ALL of the dimensions of your AW. Create calculated measures that then point to these other cubes which may not have all of the dimensions. In this case, the report is using the "calculated" measures whose dimensionality does not change even if you add a dimension to one of the underlying cubes.
For example, if you have Time, Customer, Product, and Geography in your AW, but you choose to only have Time and Product in a cube called YEAR_ITEM_PLAN that holds your targets for the year, and they later decide to do their plans Time, Product and Gegoraphy, you could recreate the YEAR_ITEM_PLAN cube to include Geography and as long as the calculated members cube you created earlier always had geography, their reports should continue to function.

  • How would you optimize the dimensions?

How would you optimize the dimensions?

    HI Vsu,
The basic way of optmizing the Dimensions would be to have similar kind of objects into that dimensions. For example having the Customer related infoobjects into the customer dimension will obviously help in optimized data retrieval performance.
There could be some scenarious where U can optimize the Dimension by dividing the Dimension Data into Line Item Dimension. By this way U would divide the load of data onto the Dimension and the cube, hence again optimizing the performance.
Hope this helps U. U can be graceful by assinging points.
    Regards,
    Syed.
