That is a pretty specific question and I suspect there is a specific derb forum as well.
As a guess you probably failed to follow the docs on pre-reqs.

  • I am running Mac OSx Lion 10.7.2. My problem is I can't search on an external network server for a file with the finder toolbar anymore. Nothing shows up and it will not search. I was able to in snow-leopard and am no longer able to w. Lion. Suggestions?

I am running Mac OSx Lion 10.7.2.
My issue is that I am not able to run a search in the finder toolabar on a network server. No files show up nor does it search on the server anymore. I was able to run the search in snow-leopard and am no longer able to do so with Lion. Is there a preference I can change or some kind of app or program I can download that will help me with this issue? This is extremely problematic for me as I am searching for files all day everyday. Thank you!

    Hello,
It isn't the fw in Network you want o use or look at, that's for something completely different.
My first suspect is the Power Adapter on the LaCie has gone.
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware>Firewire, what is listed there?
    Reset the Firewire bus
If your Firewire or USB isn't recognizing any device.  A solution which has worked for some whose hard drive became invisible in 10.4 was simply to follow these four steps to reset the Firewire/USB bus:
    1. Shut the machine down.
    2. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any firewire/USB drive or devices.
    3. leave it for 10 minutes.
    4. Connect back up and reboot.

  • Can no longer connect to network server after upgrading dsl modem

While I was working on a file that resides on a network server, the router was powered down so on reboot it would communicate with a dsl modem . After the router was power up I could not reconnect to the server.
    I have internet access
The mini can see the server in the finder and the server sees the mini
This is not a wireing issue.
When I try to connect I get this message:
"The file server uses an incompatible version of the AFP Protocol. You cannot connect"
The server is an old mac running os 9.1. I've read that 9.1 is not compatible with 10.4.8. But it worked just fine this morning.
There are other macs (cubes) running 9.2 I can connect to them.
I've tried restarting and logging on as a differernt user. no change

    Thanks for your help
I made no changes to the mini or the server.
The router was shut down then on restart the new (replaced modem) was configured by using another mac on the network (not the file server)
Once the router and modem were online again, other macs running 9.2 were accessing the file server as usual. The mini was not.
I had been working on a file that resides on the server. I was not warned that the router was going to be shut down. When I saved the file I got the beach ball then error message.
It'll be next week before I'm in the office agin. I'll report back then. Thanks

  • How to configure Time Capsule etc as a local network server with remote access server and for backups

I'm trying to set up new 3TB Time Capsule as a wireless network server (with remote access) and for backups for use in a small office (of two Macs). We have a late 2011 Intel MBP and a brand new MBA both running 10.8.3. We have two external 1TB hard drives that until now have been attached the MBP for storage and backing up that computer, which up until now was the only machine in use. The MBA is for a new employee and we need to share and work on the same files, both here in the office and ideally remotely too via Back to my Mac. The MBP needs constant access. The MBA only occasional. The TC has 7.6.3 firmware and we've set it up using AirPort Utility 6.2. It is currently attached to the MBP via ethernet and it has internet access via a Sagemcom router attached to TC's WAN port.
We've managed to set up a wireless network and both have wireless internet access through the TC
But there are so many issues I don't know where to begin - so I'll start with a description of what we're trying to achieve:
I planned to use the TC as the main server drive and place all the key folders and files there so that both of us can access them wirelessly and remotely. The MBP would back up to the TC and to one or two of the external hard drives - one being attached to the Mac via USB and the other being attached to the TC's USB port. We would back up the important data on the TC using SuperDuper and copy it to both external USB drives.
So , first of all, is that a sensible configuration? Should the 'server' be the one of the external hard drives attached to the TC USB port, backed up regularly to the TC using SuperDuper?

But when you say 'So using USB drive does make sense if you want to use it as a file store', do you mean a USB drive plugged into the TC? I hope that I can attach an external drive to the TC so we can all access and read/write the content wirelessly via the TC network or remotely.
Yes, USB.. as it prevents the sparsebundle mixing with data files. I guess it does depend on how much data you are talking about.. you can use the TC internal disk if you are careful and setup the sparsebundle with fixed sizes once you create them..
And to be clear, I wasn't planning on backing up remotely via BTMM - only to access the shared folders on the TC data drive or USB external drive attached to it. I'm assuming that's ok?
Yes, that is fine. Sorry I got the impression you were going to do backup over internet.
What is the alternative? Having a Mac Mini that's always on? Do I need OS X Server etc.?
A mini would be great.. you don't need server edition.. but I would see how the TC goes.. since you have it and it is much lower power consumption device. It is just that its design is not really for file storage.
One big problem I have is to do with the sharing permissions. For everything on the TC or attached external drive attached to it, it says I have only custom access and every time I try to change permissions it says I don't have the permission to do that. And if I try to change the owner it says my user name is not valid.
How is the security setup on the TC?
The security is a bit tricky.. I must admit since I run windows computer in the network, that I simply turn on the guest account to read and write access. For a business setup that might not be adequate  but it allows me full access to all the files.
If you setup the TC with user accounts then you are in trouble. That makes it very difficult to access, especially if one person already has the file open you may find a second user cannot login. I am not sure as I have avoided the security. IMHO it is meaningless.. since anyone with physical access to the TC can press the reset for one second and has full access.. and can add or change passwords.

  • I have 2 lan connections, 1 connect to local network server and other to internet, how do i configure firefox to open website on my local network connection and internet also

    ''locking as a duplicate - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/812283''
I have 2 local area connections in my computer, one connects to local office network server and another to the internet. when i use firefox i want to configure it to use it to connect to my local office network server website which has address as http://199.123.9.1 and also internet web address simultaneously,

I found the solution, myself, you need to go to network settings and then select manual proxy setting and provide the ip address of the internet server . that's all
"it is not OS setting up problem, around DNS and routing Problems." as stated by you,
    anyway thanks.

  • Preview isn't worth much after Lion & Cannot access network Server

I updated to Lion and found two very annoying issues:
I can not access my network server
Preview have now lost all its previous capabilities, because now you can not:
Delete pages in a multiple pdf document.
It crashes when trying to print.
You now struggle to combine pdf documents into one.
Menu changed and is now very confusing as to save a version, duplicate or export!
Since the days of my first mac, a 512K with dual floppies, this is the first time that I am really dissappointed with an upgrade!

  • InDesign PDF export to network server becomes invisible

    Hi,
Just upgraded to InDesign CS5. When I export a PDF document and post onto network server, it becomes invisible. I only know this because when I export onto my desktop and then drag into the network folder, it gives me an error message that it can't replace an invisible file. So I found a way to view the invisible file, trashed it, then dragged the one on my desktop into the network folder. Worked fine. I'd prefer not to have to do this EVERY time I export to PDF. Anyone have any experience with this issue? Help?

    I'd vote a dodgy server. I've had no issues with Mac OS X 10.5.x 10.6.x or Windows 2000, 2003, 2008 or Windows 7 shares.
InDesign has been known to work over the network. I think a patched version of CS 5 has little to no issues working on network shares that I've heard of.
Print Professional is a reasonably vague term that doesn't necessarily mean there is an amazing network setup. The difference between having a clean network setup with collision domains that are not congested and a packet dropping nightmare isn't always apparent. One can have a 60 dollar switch or a 2000 dollar switch and that can make all the difference. Similarly a file store can be a fibre channel beast or a NAS with a gigabit connection. Both can throw out the term gigabit and terabyte and be accurate, but the difference between SOHO grade junky with shakey firmware. What you'll get out of the CISCO Catalyst or HP Proliant in comparison to LinkSys and an HP MediaSmart are worlds apart.

  • How do i vpn and browse files on a network server through ipad?

I'm having trouble finding an app that allows me to access my work network server public drive to view files. I assume I can use VPN, but can't seem to find a reliable file browser.  Suggestions?

Two things you will need to do...
    1. Setup webdav shares via Server.app => Filsharing => <share> => Share with iOS Devices (WebDav) checkbox
    2. Acquire an app on your iPad that browses WebDav shares (Numbers, Keynote, Pages or any of the many apps available on the AppStore).

  • Migration of Crystal Reports Server XI to new network server

We are running CR Server XI on an older network server that is becoming unstable.   We would like to migrate CR Server and all its reports to a newer network server.
Given that there are around 200 reports published and being run from its current location, is there any way to easily move the program and reports?    Any easy way to mass-change the ODBC database server info which is present in all these reports?

I wrote this a couple years ago and you may want to open a message with the deployment team to verify or get updated steps.
But this used to work fine when the version/patchwere the same in source/destination and was much faster then the import wizard.
you can migrate the CMS database from the CCM by selecting the copy from data source.
    **CMS Source**
    1) Prior to copying the CMS database it's easiest to simply disable auditing on the source CMS database to avoid errors on the destination.
    **CMS Destination**
    2) Create a CMS database or instance for the destination
    3) Stop the CMS and all other services (page, cache, etc)
    4) Double click on the CMS
    5) Select the configuration tab
    6) Choose copy from datasource
    7) Click specify on the CMS Data source
    8) Select source CMS database (make sure middle ware i.e. ODBC connection is installed)
    9) Select destination CMS database
    **CMS Source**
    10) Stop CMS and all other services (page, cache, etc)
    **CMS Destination**
    11) Start the CMS
    12) Login to CMC select servers, delete all servers associated with the source CMS if they exist
    13) Stop CMS on the destination server
    14) Double click CMS on the destination server
    15) Select the configuration tab
    16) Select the change CMS cluster name to (and choose your server or cluster)
    17) Run regedit
    18) Go to HKEYLocalMachine\Software\Businessobjects\suite 11.5\Enterprise\CMSClustermembers
    19) Ensure that only the proper members are defined (i.e. your computer name only or your cluster members only). Remove anything that was added from the source system
    **CMS Source**
    20) Restart the CMS and all other services (page, cache, etc)
    21) Login to CMC select servers, delete all servers associated with the destination CMS if they exist
    22) Go to HKEYLocalMachine\Software\Businessobjects\suite 11.5\Enterprise\CMSClustermembers
    23) Ensure that only the proper members are defined (i.e. your computer name only or your cluster members only). Remove anything that was added from the destination system
    **CMS Destination**
    24) Delete any directories in the businessobjects\businessobjects 115\filestore
    25) Copy your FRS from the source businessobjects\businessobjects 115\filestore to businessobjects\businessobjects 115\filestore on the destination
    26) Restart CMS - Done
NOTE: If XI replace 115 with 11. IF CE10 replace business objects with crystal enterprise and 115 with 10

  • Cannot open copy of InDesign CC document located on a network server

Adobe InDesign CC Mac v 9.2.1
We have always had the possibility to «Open Copy» of InDesign documents which is in use by another user by using the option «Open Copy» in the Open-dialog.
After upgrading to InDesign CC last week (currently v 9.2.1) we are now not longer able to open a copy of files in use, neither duplicate the file in Finder.
When we try to open a copy we get this error message:
«This file is already open by another user or another application. This file may be stored on a network server and cannot be opened until the other user closes it.»
This is extremly irritating, and we spend a lot of time in closing files, duplicate them and open the copy manually. This has never been a problem until this CC version.
I assume this is i a bug from Adobe, and that it will be fixed soon! I hope not this is a «new feature»!
Annyone experienced the same problem and found a fix/workaround for it? Please...
    Jan Thore
    Mediateam, Norway

Tried AFP and SMB on Mac (Windows server running Extremezip). Also doesn't work from a Windows PC-we get the same error.
A previous post from an Adobe staff member indicated this was a known InDesign issue. We (and it looks like a few others) were looking for a fix.
    Thanks!

  • Domain Network Server

OK I am EXTREMELY p'd off but I will try to stay calm while typing this. SEVERAL TIMES EVERYDAY FOR WEEKS my internet has been constantly cutting off randomly, sometimes for as long as 2 hours at a time. When I run a diagnosis, it says something along
the lines of 'Domain Network Server is not responding' or 'Unable to connect to DNS' and other variations. I have used Google for possible solutions, such as entering a 10 digit address in the IPV4 or whatever, and that has not worked. I have no idea what
the f'k a DNS is, never mind know how to fix it. I am extremely angry because of the amount of times it happens every f'g day and at really important times, today I have lost many hours, even days, of hard work because it cuts off at the wrong f'g time.
Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to fix it?

    Hi,
This issue could be also caused by your router, try to reset or update the firmware of your router.
You need find the information on your specific router, here I just find a general reference for you:

  • Image Capture can't save to Network Server

I have a Canon MX860 connected via wireless to my network. I'm running 10.6.6 on the mac. When I scan an image, Image Capture only allows to save to the local hard drive. It shows my Network Server (in the Scan To | Other ... dialog box), but it's grayed out, so I can't select it to save to. Is there a way to save to a network drive?

I am having this same problem when I try to upload photos from my camera. To add to the mystery, Image Capture will allow me to import from a camera and save to my NAS using my MacBook Pro, but not with my iMac - even though both are running the latest OS X. Has anyone figured out why this happens? I spent an hour on the phone with Apple tech support and they couldn't figure it out.

    Thanks for any help

    Hi w4nng1,
Regarding this kind of issue, this is related to the security change in Windows 10 Technical Preview(9926 build), you may refer to this thread to get more information:
