Derive Characteristic

Dear SAP Expert,
I would like to derive a field in VBRP table as a characteristic based on billing document number (CEST1-RBELN).
Billing Document number is available on COPA document under Administrative data tab.
However, at KEDR, it was not successful as it seems that at KEDR, all source tables are SO related tables. (No VBRK table is available as a source)
In our system, we don't have sales orders as billing documents are directly posted by an external system.
I appreciate it if you could kindly share your experience of deriving characteristics at KEDR without having SO.
Best Regards,
Kimiko

Hello Ajay,
Maintained the value in TKEZU table as below.
WWBD  KEDR  KOMK-BELNR
Maintained the derivation at KEDR
<Source Fields>
VBRP- VBELN = COPA-WWBD
VBRP-POSNR=COPA-KDPOS
<Target Fields>
VBRP-AKTNR=COPA-WWCPN
However, this did not work.  Any pointer will be appreciated...

Kimiko

  • BI-IP:Derived characteristic overwritten again within copy planningfunction

    Dear all,
I have an issue using planning function "copy". I am using this planning function to copy my planned data within the real time infocube chaning the plan version from 1 to 2 within my realtime infocube. In my realtime infocube, i have a characteristic relationship to derive the date, time and user and unique id for each record. However, when I try to copy those records now into a new version, I get the following error messages:
Errors while executing sequence testtest ( TESTTEST )
Planning function Konsolidierung ( ZCPFCOPYKONS ) ended with errors
    Critical error during characteristic derivation
    Derived characteristic overwritten again
Characteristic '0TIME': Old value '155926', new value '162217'
    Critical error during characteristic derivation
    Derived characteristic overwritten again
Characteristic '0TIME': Old value '155926', new value '162217'
Any Idea how to solve this issue?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
after the copy planning function the copied records will be checked and if correct will be transferred to the delta buffer. In the delta buffer derivation based on characteristic relationships will be called.
The error indicates that derivation rules with respect to 'zinscomp' are inconsistent:
    - 'zinscomp' is contained in the aggregation level with value ' ' but a derivation fills a field not in the aggregation level and in addition changes 'zinscomp' from ' ' to 'c'.
    - or 'zinscomp' not in the aggregation level, was derived with value ' ' and another derivation rule again changed the value to 'c'
This must not happen. If this happens this always indicates inconsistent derivatiion rules. So please check your customizing:
1 do characteristic relationships of type derivation have consistent derivation rules
2 parameterization of the copy function: maybe 'zinscomp' comes from the copy source, always with initial values but has to have non-initial value, e.g. 'c' in the copy target. In this can you may remove 'zinscomp' from the aggregation level; derivation then will automatically fill 'zinscomp' via derivation.

  • How to validate derived characteristic

    Hi,
Hope you guys can help me with the following quite easy task:
I'm deriving characteristic "Attribute" according to basic characteristic "Basic" in Characteristic Relationships. Sometimes the "Attribute" has not been maintained in the "Basic" master data, so there will be "Attribute" = "Not assigned" in the planning cube after saving. What I would like to do is get rid of these "Not assigned" rows, but only if "Basic" has a value. Guess it will be characteristic relationship of type exit, and if so, could you guys share a sample code, thanks!
    Regards,

Thanks, it was easier than I thought

We are implementing the SAP project for just one small private medical Center which includes mainly outpatient cases in different medical Clinics (different departments in the same medical center) .For example: Radiology center/department, cardiology center Obstetrics center and so on.
We have defined each center/department as a different profit center.
Some of departments are subdivided to several medical organizational units; each unit represents a different cost center at the same profit center/department.
A case-based order (internal CO orders relating to a patientu2019s case) is created in the background when the patient is admitted
The same patient can get services from few organizational units (in ISH)/cost centers at the same visit/case and that's why it is important to collect revenue and costs at the same case based order. The revenue is posted to the case base order by using billing in the ISH module and the costs by internal activity allocation.
We have assigned IS-H services to activity types in Controlling; the services transfer to the case based order. CO-relevant services are posted from IS-H to cost centers in CO and within internal activity allocation, allocate them to the case-based order.
    For example:
X ray service assigned to Technician minutes activity type.
Each X Ray service takes 20 minutes of  Technician (Qty Cnv Facto=20 MIN)
The service transfer is preformed automatically at final billing.
We have implemented Case Costing Level 2 in order to analyze case costs in CO-PA.
We want to have the ability to derive the profitability analysis characteristics at the level of a line item in the case, for example: we want to define a service or the preformed organizational unit as a characteristic in PA.
We are not sure what the best feasible solution for this requirement is.
    We investigated few alternatives:
    1.     We have defined the case based order as real order with a settlement rule to a profitability segment. Revenue and Costs are posted to the cased based order and then settled to the profitability analysis. We eliminated this alternative because we didn't find any way to distribute revenue and case costs to PA between the different "line item characteristics" (for example: different services in the case).
    2.     After eliminating the first alternative we tried to change the solution.
We have dealt with revenue and costs separately.
    1.     Revenue: In the "configure revenue accounting" We flagged the Post to Prof.Segment checkbox, the patient billing module attempts to determine a profitability segment in CO for each invoice item and to post the revenue to it. The system determines the profitability segment using the characteristics of the patient and case data we defined.
We are using ISH_CHARACTERISTIC_* functions for characteristic derivation but we couldn't derive user defined characteristics which are defined at the level of the invoice item. (For example: billable service in the case or preformed organizational unit for each service.).We didn't succeed to it by using the ISH_CHARACTERISTIC_* functions.
    2.     Costs:
We tried to posts case costs (internal activity allocation) directly to profitability analysis, this way we hope to have the ability to derive characteristic of the line item.
We know that when we use transaction: KB21N for internal activity allocation and we define two receivers, internal order and profitability segment- In case the order will be statistical the true posting will be to profitability analysis segment.
Therefore we have defined the case based order as statistical order.
We want to intervene in the automatic creation of account assignment lines by enhancement NHCO0001 IS-H: Create account asgmt. line during CO transfer.
The transfer program creates for CO-relevant services account assignment lines for Assignment rules.
But-We didn't find any way to do it, because the profitability segment object is missing in enhancement NHCO0001.
As an alternative we tried to use User-Exit in the profitability analysis valuation (transaction: ke4u) but also with no success. (Enhancement COPA0002).
Could you Please advice what to do,I didn't succeed in my ideas and investigations.
    Thanks

    Controlling Consultant

    HI Claudius
Thanks for your answer, I will try to discuss it again with my customer to understand weather he really needs/wants a profitability analysis on service level.
I processed also an inquiry within the Service Remote Consulting according , I will let you know their answer as well.
I have additional issue to discuss with you , please let me know wheatear you can help me.
There are internal service sales between different departments in the same medical center. For example: Radiology center/department sells X-rays services for the cardiology center. We need the ability to sell a service to a different department in a different price than to an external payer/customer/insurance provider.
Is it possible to implement profit center transfer prices along with the ISH_CO integration?,
How is it getting along with the posting of internal activity allocation when services transfer to Controlling?
At standard the costs are allocated (by means of internal activity allocation) between profit centers. The responsible cost center (assigned to the performing organization unit) is credited and the case based order (which is assigned to different profit center) is debited.
Is it possible to implement transfer prices in case the performing organizational units are connected to the same profit center? (because some of departments are subdivided to several medical organizational units; and each unit represents a different cost center at the same profit center/department).
Do you recommend defining a different profit center also for each sub-department?
Do you have any other proposed solution for this issue?.
    Thanks,
    Yael

  • Characteristic derived Update Rules

    Hi guys,
I have to make the update rules for a DSO.
Among characteristics there is one that should by derived from the master data table of another characteristic. Even more, this attribute is time-dependent.
So, let's say for characteristic zstatus  I:
<li>checked the Master Data Attribute of</li>
    <li>selected the deriving characteristic zdoc</li>
    <li>clicked the Time Dependency button</li>
    <li>checked the End radio button</li>
<li>selected 0CALDAY from the Frm match code button</li>
<li>Closed all modal windows and activated the update rules</li>
After both, master data bearing characteristics and transaction data were uploaded, the results were far from what I expected to be, as you can see below:
    <li>zdoc Master data</li>
Comp Code     BP     Ref. no     Valid-to             Valid-from            Document_date     Net_duedate     Status
    RO20     90000724     342342     11.11.2008     01.01.1000     21.11.2008     20.9.2007
    RO20     90000724     342342     20.11.2008     12.11.2008     21.11.2008     20.9.2007                  1
    RO20     90000724     342342     31.12.9999     21.11.2008     21.11.2008     20.9.2007                  2
    <li>Transaction data [ DSO ]</li>
Comp Code     BP     Ref. no     Document date     Status     Document Type     Amount     0CALDAY
    RO20     90000724     342342     5.9.2007                                 X            119,00     5.9.2007
    RO20     90000724     342342     5.9.2007                 1             I            119,00     21.11.2008
    RO20     90000724     342342     5.9.2007                 1            X            119,00     21.11.2008
Well, I expected the Status column in the DSO table [ the bolded column to get the value 2 after deriving the zdoc characteristic on 0CALDAY, during data loading process, however, it takes the value 1 in turn.
I'm not sure, I'm clear in my explanations...if  there is someone who understood my pain, and tell me what's wrong with my update rules I would appreciate.
    Kind Regards!

After updating the data, did you perform a hierarchy/attribute change run or "activate" the master data for your lookup object?  Also, check in the "Q" table of the master date lookup object, all of those records should be in the table and active.

  • Derivation Strategy for billing types - Post activation in KE4W

    Dear Friends,
I recently activated KE4W for billing types S2, Credit Notes & Debit notes.
This is for restricting the COGS flow to CO for these billing types.
Now when i am releasing the sales document to accounting - Its asking to maintain derivation strategy.... KEDR for all the billing types.
From my previous implementations i have never maintained KEDR for billing types... as it is suppose to be on a standard derivation strategy.
How can i go about resolving this.
Do i at all need to maintain KEDR for billing types.. or is this error because of something else..
    Thanks in advance
    Vikrant Sood.

    HI,
normally KE4W (reset CO-PA value fields) does not require any KEDR-steps.
I suggest to make a test derivation within KEDR to identify the step(s) where the message occurs.
Maybe also T-Code KECM is helpful (Overview of derivation, characteristic derivation) to see if the billing type is used as a key field,...

  • Material classification - Searching exit to change/add characteristic vals

    Hi all,
I am searching for an exit or BADI what allows to change or add characteristic values. This shall happen on <enter> in MM01 or MM02 and would be great to word also in BAPI calls updating the classification.
Exit EXIT_SAPLCLFM_002 does not work on one hand since it is called after check for mandatory entries. Therefore there is no chance, to fill them before. Also the user will not see the result.
BADI IF_EX_CACL_VALUE_CHANGE~MODIFY_INPUT does not work since it has no chance, to manipulate content. It just offers changed values to check. A try to use CTMS functions to manipulate DDB was not succesful. I did not find any chance to react on a given changed value changing or inserting values for other characteristics within the allocated classes. Any call for CTMS_DDB_SET_VALUE lets the classifcation struggle - even if repetitive calls of the BADI are avoided.
    Does anyone have an idea?
    Thanks in advance.
    Axel

    Hi Vijay,
thank you for thinking about it.
My task is to react on an update to a characteristic in MM01, MM02 and any other more general transaction to maintain the material classification like mass updates etc. I want to derive from the entered value of several updated characteristics other ones from the allocated class. These derived characteristic values might be still empty but mandatory. I do not want to see any popups inquiring this content before my exit has the chance to fill it. I prefer that this is done on <enter> and not on <save> and want to show the user the enhanced class values. Optimum would be that this also happens in a BAPI call with the same logic.
I hope this clarifies the task.

  • CHAR RELATIONSHIP error in SEM BPS planning sequence

    Hi,
I'm executing a planning sequence with 2 planning functions.
1st being "Exit  funciton" & 2nd being "Repost funciton".
I've a "characteristic relationship of type attribute"  defined at the planning area level.
Am getting CHAR RELATIONSHIP check error when am executing this sequence.
EXIT function gives blank values for a characteristic that is used in "characteristic relationship".
But, REPOST function adjusts this blank characteristic value to actual value which will be correct when "CHARACTERISTIC RELATIONSHIP" is checked.
When I execute sequence, EXIT function gets executed & CHAR RELATIONSHIP errors are being displayed before "REPOST" function is being executed.
Is there any other approach to deal this scenario? like checking CHAR RELATIONSHIP after REPOST funciton execution?
I can execute REPOST funciton from "EXIT FUNCTION" using API_SEMBPS_FUNCTION_EXECUTE, but this doesn't suit my needs.
Please note that I've a need to use 2nd planning function rather deriving characteristic relationship from the EXIT function.
    Appreciate any ideas/thoughts.

    Hari,
each function must produce results that adhere to the rules specified as characteristic relationships. BPS will always execute the char.relationships after the exit function. You might be able to avoid this by adjusting the characteristics in your planning level.
Calling another function (like REPOST) from within an exit is not possible since BPS needs to finish processing the exit first, before it can run the repost.

  • Help needed in calculations in Workbook for input query

    hi friends ,
Iam displaying an input query in the Workbook ..the format of the query is
    Account                                  Amount
    1010 Undistributed Amount     $ 2000
    1010 PC1
    1010 PC2
    1010 PC3
The use 0f this query is to distribute the undistributed amount for below 3 profit centers .When a amount is entered for PC1,the entered amount must be reduced from the undistributed amount .Bottom line is the undistributed amount must be refreshed everytime an amount is entered for PC1,PC2,PC3 and vice versa ..
I tried writing some excel formulas but no use .when the query is in edit mode i was not able to write the formulas to the cells.
Please give me your valuable inputs and help me getting this function work.
    Regards,
    Ravikanth

    Hi,
We acheive the same requirement in our project by creating one more characteristic which will be derived from the changed record .You can refer the How to guide given below.Once you get the delta record then you can redistribute the same by using the FOX formula, taking the derived characteristic into aggregation level and checking for it's value.
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/a05666e5-91bf-2a10-7285-a80b7f5f7fd2&overridelayout=true
For example: one WBS element span across three periods ,initially all with same amount ,if I change the value for one period the remaining amount should be equally distributed in remaining periods.Special characteristic value is "A" intially. Now if i change the amount for 010.2009 to 100,the remaining 500 should be equally distributed.
    HEADER LINE.
    WBS,Period,Zdelta,Amount
    WBS1 010.2009  A  200
    WBS1 011.2009  A  200
    WBS1 012.2009  A  200
Now when I change the amount from 200 to 100 the negative delta will be posted to ZDELTA as"X" with the value -100.So now in the cube the records will be like:-
    WBS1 010.2009  A  100
    WBS1 010.2009  X  -100
    WBS1 011.2009  A  200
    WBS1 012.2009  A  200
Now you can write the fox formula in which you can check the total amount will be less than the original amount. So now you can post the remaining amount to the records where ZDELTA dose not have the value X.
Hope this may work out for you.

  • IP: Best Practice for capturing Key Figure input value in characteristics

    Hi Gurus,
we have the requeirement to capture a plannable key figure as a characteristic as well for reporting reasons.
Input in the key figures will be a closed value ist (1 to 5) so no new master data will be created by that in the respective characteristics.
My first guess was an exit characterisic relationship, but obviously it is named "Characteristic Relationship" for a reason, as you cannot not derive values from key figures here.
Any ideas on what would be the best and easiest implementation scenario?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Tobias

    Hi Tobias,
You can derive a characteristic value from a keyfigure using Characteristic relationship of type "EXIT".
Kindly let me know if your issue doesn't get solved using the EXIT type char rel.
    EXIT type characteristic relationship:
The valid characteristic combinations and derivable characteristic values are defined by the customer-specific implementation of the specified exit class.
The exit class must implement the interface 'IF_RSPLS_CR_EXIT'. Only these types of classes are offered for editing in maintenance. We recommend that you derive your own class from the example class 'CL_RSPLS_CR_EXIT_BASE'. You then only have to implement the methods u2018CHECKu2019, u2018DERIVEu2019 and u2018CREATEu2019. The class 'CL_RSPLS_CR_EXIT_BASE' itself can be used directly, but it does not execute an action.
Note also the example source code given in the template class; an infrastructure for buffering is provided there, for example.

  • PA Realignment

I have to perform a PA realignment to remove a characteristic that is not going to be used and substitute it for a new one. The realignment has to be in a one to one basis: for each old characteristic, a new one has to be derived. I have doubts in how to build the Realignment request: Do I have to create first a derivation rule and and then in the realignment derive the new characteristic?
    Please someone help me out!

    Hi
I guess you are replacing one characteristic value with the other (NOT CHARACTERISTIC DELETION). This replacement can be either by way of fresh derivation of the characteristic value or by replacing with a fixed value. These are specified in the Realignment request. For eg. If Division is so far derived from Sales order header and you want it be changed that it is to be derived from Material master. First specify the Selection criteria wherein you specify the Characteristic values (ie Prof segments) which need to be realigned. In Conversion rule, you either opt for a fixed value or Derive Characteristic values again.
If you select the option "Derive characteristic values again", you need to create a derivation rule wherein the Division (in above ex) to be derived from Material master table instead of Sales order header
I guess this is the right approach. Also check the online documentation

    Hi,
take a look at 0AGE doc from help.sap.com I think it should solve your problem:
This characteristic is a derived characteristic. You can use this characteristic to display key figures in accordance with the age of an applicant or an employee.
The characteristic contains the applicant/employee‘s age at the end of a period. You can define an age hierarchy according to the specific requirements of your enterprise, and then display the age structure of your enterprise, for example. To enable you to perform age-based calculations, the system includes an Age in Years key figure (0AGE_KYF).
The age characteristics are calculated using update rules at the end of a period. The period depends on the InfoSource from which it is taken. For example, the end of the period can be at the end of a calendar day or month.
SAP delivers age in years hierarchies in CSV files. (See also InfoSource Age in Years (0AGE)). You can also define hierarchies for the Age in Years characteristic (0AGE). You can determine intervals within the structure as required, for example, in five-year intervals (25 - 29 years, 30 - 34 years, and so on.) Therefore, the age structure that you define yourself offers advantages over the fixed age structure of the Age Range characteristic (0AGE_RANGE).

  • How can achieve this (Condition on CHARS at cube or report level)

    HI,
My report requirement is to display only values where employee Home Dept Not Equal To Worked Department.
    Home Department (CHAR-20) and
    Worked Dept (CHAR-20)
For that I created a Info Object in Cube (ZINDICATOR).While data load i want to populate this field with ‘X’ (Flag) if Home Dept = Worked Dept and ‘Y’ (Flag) if Home Dept <> Worked Dept.
So that I can use ZINDICATOR in Query Filter to restrict accordingly..
When I tried to write an if condition in update/Transfer rules it is giving me error...
<b>“Formula element is not allowed here”</b>
How can I achieve my desired results......?

    OK sorry,
Are you doing this in an individual update rule or in a start routine?
    I suggest start routine. Steps:
    1. Add your derived characteristic into the communication structure of the transfer rules (do not have any update in the transfer rules for it)
    2. In the update rules have a direct mapping for the characteristic.
    3. Create a start routine in the update rule. code should be something like
    FIELD-SYMBOLS: <f_dp> TYPE data_package_structure.
    LOOP AT DATA_PACKAGE ASSIGNING <f_dp> .
      IF <f_dp>-home_dpt eq <f_dp>-work_dpt.
         <f_dp>-/bic/zindicator = 'X'.
      ELSE.
         <f_dp>-/bic/zindicator = 'Y'.
      ENDIF.
    ENDLOOP.
You will need to replace the work_dpt and home_dpt etc. bits with the names of your characteristics.
