  • HT3986 Can I install Windows 7 on Mac OS X v10.8 Mountain Lion?

I have Mac OS X v10.8 Mountain lion and i need to install windows 7 in my mac...
    Please help me!

Yes, you can install Windows 7 on Mountain Lion.
    You have two options:
1- Run Windows 7 through a virtual machine such as Parallels or VMWare.
2- Dual boot your Mac through bootcamp.
In any case, you will need a valid and original Windows 7 installer DVD (or image).
Since you asked under bootcamp, I will give some details about is below.
First, as suggested in bootcamp, I would suggest you to take a backup just in case. To install Windows, you have to change the partioning of your harddrive from GUID (default apple) to Master Boot Record and though it should be seamless, there can be problems occasionally.
Bootcamp is located under /Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app. Make ready your Windows 7 installation disk (either insert the disc to your DVD drive or mount the image) and run Boot Camp Assistant. Follow the instructions, they should be pretty easy to follow. At some point you will have to change the partitioning of your hard drive and create another partition for Windows. Notice that if your hard drive has too much fragmentation, you might not be able to create a new partition without either running a defragmenter first or reformatting the hard drive. However, I do not want to overkill you with information, so first try to follow Boot Camp assistant and let me know if you are stuck at a particular stage.
    Good luck!

  • .mov format files does not open/play in QuickTime Player 10.1 in Mac OS X v10.7.1 Lion

I have couple of .mov format files provided by my client. I am not able to play the file in QuickTime player 10.1 in Max OS X v10.7 Lion. Please give me a good suggestion/solution to solve this issue. I expecting your valuable support/help.

I wonder if there a abetter communiator othat can elp in these matters.
Try searching. This and similar questions have been asked and answered by dozens, if not by hundreds, of different responders over the last several years and the problems remain basically the same..
    1) Some apps will not accept certain container types,
    2) Some players will not play supported compression formats in unexpected file containers,
    3) Some compression format(s) cannot be played because...
    a) the codec(s) is/are not available for the Mac,
    b) the codec(s) is/are only avaulable for pre-System X operating systems,
    c) the codec(s) is/are only available for post-Power PC models,
    d) the codec(s) is/are disabled by default under Lion and/or Mountain Lion OS, and/or
    e) the codec(s) is/are only installed by "Pro" apps like iMovie, FCE or FCP or must be installed by the user
    4) Some security updates prevent otherwise playable videos from playing for no real apparent reason.
I fixed the issue but without THESE GENIUS attitude issues... ANYONE with issues in tha rea - I have the fix.
It is truly amazining that this individual was able to reduce all of these possible issues down to a single solution without even having to define them. Too bad he did not share his miraculous solution here.
Much easier to work with ppl that are able to communiate on different levels.
Even easier to work with people that are able to understand the communication at all levels.
    Obviolusly this guy can not.
Obviously this guy missed the whole point of the posting. Tell your mechanic that your car doesn't work and it it likely elicit more questions than solutions. Without knowing the file container, player, AND the codecs involved it is normally impossible to say why, as in this case, a MOV file plays in one player and not another or why it plays under one operating system and not another. In short, if insufficient information is provided, then no solutions are likely to be given here.

  • How can i upgrade my Mac os x v10.6.8 to v10.7

i need the mac os x v10.7 to install an application that i want however the version i have, 10.6.8, says that it is the most updated version.

Call 1-800-676-2775 to purchase a download code for the Mac App Store.
Read this link for applications that do not work under Lion.  http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Make a VERY GOOD backup before going to Lion.  You may need to go back to re-start the upgrade or just because you do not like it.

  • How do i install mac os x v10.6 so I can update itunes for my iphone 5

So I have an older white macbook.  I am using mac os x v10.5.8.  I need to update my os version to 10.6 so I can install the newer version of itunes in order to plug my iphone 5 into itunes.  I can't seem to find the 10.6 download.  Please help.

To sync an iPhone 5 you need iTunes 10.7 or later.
To use iTunes 10.7 or later on a Mac, you must be running OS X 10.6.8 or later.
To upgrade from OS X 10.5.8, you must first buy Snow Leopard on DVD.
Snow Leopard is not available to download from any legitimate source.
    Online (US): http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    Online (UK): http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Elsewhere: call the phone number in the Apple Online Store
    Apple's price is $19.99 or £14.00.
Make sure your system meets Snow Leopard's requirements:
Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" System Requirements
To install Snow Leopard for the first time, you must have a Mac with:
    An Intel processor
An internal or external DVD drive, or DVD or CD Sharing
At least 1 GB of memory (RAM) (additional RAM is recommended)
A built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
At least 5 GB of disk space available, or 7 GB of disk space if you install the developer tools
After you install Snow Leopard you can decide if you want to upgrade OS X to the latest version, Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion is available in the Mac App Store, which is available to you after upgrading to Snow Leopard.

  • Is MAC OS X v10.6.8 same as MAC OS X Snow Leopard. Since i want to download MAC OS X LION can it be downloaded on my mac which has MAC OS X v10.6.8 ??

Is MAC OS X v10.6.8 same as MAC OS X Snow Leopard. Since i want to download MAC OS X LION can it be downloaded on my mac which has MAC OS X v10.6.8 ??

Yes, assuming you can run Lion, & can deal with no more Save or Save As... functions...
    Lion/101.7 System requirements
        •    x86-64 processor (Macs with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7, or Xeon processor.)
        •    At least 2GB of memory, (I say 4GB)
        •    Latest version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8), with the Mac App Store installed
        •    At least 4GB of disk space for downloading, (I say 40GB at least)
Like Snow Leopard, Lion does not support PowerPC-based Macs (e.g., Power Macs, PowerBooks, iBooks, iMacs (G3-G5), eMacs).
Lion also does not support 32-bit Intel Core Duo or Core Solo based Macs. Rosetta is no longer available in Lion, which means Lion no longer supports PowerPC applications.

I just bought a canon pixma iX6540 printer only to find out that the driver is not supported. I am using Mac OS X v10.7. Can someone help please. Thanks

Although it mentions OS 10.6 on the link, have you tried downloading the latest drivers - if you haven't already - from the Apple Support site, maybe they'll work:

  • My Macbook Pro with 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo (Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger) can convert to Lion?

my Macbook Pro with 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo (Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger) can convert to Lion?
    Toyoo

These are some of the most common Questions (Q) and Answers (A) about Lion:
Q: What are the system requirements of the Lion upgrade?
A: Core2Duo, Core i3, i5, i7, and Xeon Intel CPUs with 2 GB of RAM in a Macintosh computer with 2 GB of RAM, and 4 GB (7 GB after installed) for downloading from the Mac App Store (Available in 10.6.6 and later). Unofficially, past upgrades have arbitrarily also required an additional 15% of the hard drive to be free for data.
Q: What applications are compatible with Lion?
A: http://roaringapps.com/apps:table provides a nice third party editable listing for people to include the compatible applications. Many of these compatibility entries came from before Lion's release. Please verify they are correct now that it has been released, and help edit it for more accurate data. Be sure to include any update version of Lion post release that you have found is or is not compatible with it, for the help of others who may be upgrading to Lion the first time. Additionally, as it was released, there is no Rosetta. This means any application that is stated to be PowerPC in the System Profiler, will not work with Lion, and needs a comparable application or upgrade to be compatible. The System Profiler is in Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More Info. Intel and Universal applications are on the whole supported, though may still need some tweaking before every feature is compatible.
Q: Are there any pitfalls to watch out for?
A: With all upgrades, backing up your data at least twice has been a given. Hardware can fail independently of downloads and upgrades, though may happen simultaneously. Software may be found to be incompatible that has not been tested with the new upgrade, or combination of other software that might be installed with the upgrade. It is also strongly recommended once your backup is complete, to shut down your computer, remove all but Apple wired keyboard and mouse (notebooks remove all input devices). Then once done, reboot, and go directly to the upgrade distribution system available. Third party system tools, modification, and "maintenance" applications should be verified as compatible, or removed until known to be compatible. Check with developers how to remove if it is essential to use Lion before those applications become compatible. Most "maintenance" tools that deal with system cache, prebinding, are not really maintenance tools. Ask on forum when are the appropriate times to use them before assuming they should be used for upgrades or otherwise.
    Q: How can I get from 10.4 or 10.5 to 10.6.6?
A: Purchase a 10.6 retail installer from an Apple retail or third party reseller. It has a picture of a Snow Leopard on the DVD, and does not say Upgrade, Dropin, or OEM. Install it, and then install the 10.6.6 combo update from:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1349
Q: Is it true that I can only get it from the Mac App Store?
A: Presently this truth is based on current documentation as of the writing of this article. It may change, but we can't speculate as to its change. It has a better chance of changing if users request something different at:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Q: What limitations might one encounter if it doesn't change?
A: First off the 7 GB space limitation on the hard disc after it is installed. Secondly, the size of the download file requires significant time, unless you have a high speed broadband connection. Times expected are below -
    4 GB at:
    5Mbps is 2 hours.
at 1 Mbps is 10 hours.
at 384 kbps is 27 hours.
at 56k kbps is 184 hours (nearly 8 days).
If you include the 10.6.6 combo update of 1.06 GB
add 29 minutes for 5 Mbps
    145 minutes (2 and 25 minutes) for 1 Mbps
    6 and a half hours for 384kbps
A 24 hour day and 15 hours (for a total of a minimum of 39 hours) for 56kbps
Remember the retail 10.6 currently does not include the App Store, and those upgrading from 10.5.8 or earlier will need to both buy the retail 10.6, and download the combo 10.6.6 update, not to mention ensure they have the correct processor and 2 GB of RAM. Finally once it is available, you'll have find out how long approximately it takes to install after the download is complete.
These times do not include installation time, which on a MacBook Pro 3,1 15" installing on a Firewire 800 Newertech Voyager with WD10ACS-322J80 drive, 10.6.7, took 1 hour and a half to complete the installation from double clicking the install command to the registration screen. These times may vary by connection speeds from a non-dedicated connection, or background application usage of the internet. Any applications running when the installation process begins might interfere with the installation itself, and they should be quit first.
The installer just before it starts has in its package contents an InstallESD.dmg file a DVD burnable image to install on additional computers in the home without downloading over again. So if you desire to reinstall without an extra internet download, extract that file, by selecting the installer in the dock, and control-clicking it, and revealing it in the Finder. Next Control-mouse click it, and select show package contents. Inside that folder is a Shared Support folder. That's where you find the DMG.
Q: If I purchased a Mac recently, can I get it cheaper?
A: Yes, visit http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/ for details.
Q: When will Lion become available?
    A: It became available July 20, 2011.
Q: Which Macs can run Lion?
A: Look at Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More Info, and see if you meet the Machine ID and RAM requires under the hardware. 2 GB is required for all These Machine IDs will run Lion:
    Mac Mini 2,1 and later
    MacBook 2,1 and later.
    iMac 5,1 and later.
    All MacBook Air.
    MacBook Pro 2,1 and later
    All MacPros.
The Macs with the Machine IDs below will not run Lion (x can be any number):
Mac Mini 1,x or PowerMac x,x
    MacBook 1,x
    MacBook Pro 1,x
    iMac 4,x, 3,x, 2,x, 1,x

  • Mac OS X v10.5.6 Leopard

I want to buy and install the iLife'09, but read that I need to upgrade to Mac OS X v10.5.6 Leopard. When I did a search on the Apple store site, all that came up is Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Family Pack (?) I don't think I can go directly from Tiger to Snow Leopard, so what are my options? Also, I see that some are having problems with Leopard. Have these been ironed out? I only want to upgrade so I can get the new iMovie in iLIfe'09. Is it worth the trouble?

I don't think I can go directly from Tiger to Snow Leopard
You can, except your computer (G5) won't run Snow Leopard (requires Intel Mac).
For Leopard, try calling Apple Support (not Sales). It used to be that when Leopard first came out you could still get Tiger through Support, not Sales. Maybe the same applies to Leopard.
Also, I see that some are having problems with Leopard. Have these been ironed out?
A somewhat sweeping statement. What issues specifically?
    Is it worth the trouble?
Ah, as a Tiger user you got me on that one.

  • Ipod nano on Mac OS X v10.4.10?

I'm planning to buy a 4th generation ipod nano, but I've read that you need to have Mac OS X v10.4.11 or later for this nano. I have Mac OS X v10.4.10, so you think it is still possible to run this 4th generation ipod nano?

If you run Software update on your Mac you should be able to update your OS to 10.4.11. Incremental updates are free and since you are already running 10.4.10 I can't see any particular reason your computer won't run 10.4.11.
