Design View is black
After adding my site to CS4, the Design View of all pages is
black. Code View works. Live View works. It's only Design View
that's giving me trouble. Without Design View, Dreamweaver is
useless to people like me who aren't proficient in code. I've tried
working through this with the customer support folks and the person
who designed my webiste. No one can figure it out. Help!
Note that I can go back to an old version of the page located
elsewhere on my computer, open it, and it shows up fine.

Are you using includes, or is it just bad syntax?
There are TWO sets of <body> tags.
Sort it out and it should display.

Help: Design view is black while live view is visible...

I can't seem to figure this one out - >
I've been working on a file (attached) for my small business, and when I switch to "live" view, the document can be seen, but when I go to design view, I get a black screen (so I can not edit it). The data has definitely not been erased - its all there in the code and in the live view, but I'm not a good enough coder to make all the change I need via code only. Can anyone help?? I really need to finish this and don't want to start over, and I'm afraid if I do I might do this again...Thanks so much for your help!

Usually, as you surmise, it will be a minor code glitch that renders the whole page fragile (or black...).

Design view background appears black in CC
I have a site in which the pages are built from templates. When I look at any page in Live view, it appears correctly with a white background. However, in Design view the background is black. The text is appearing in the correct colour (blue), and images are ok. The site also appears correctly online.
I have tried clearing my cache, to no avail. In fact, the black background also manifests itself on my laptop.
I don't remember this happening in CS6.
Any ideas?This is the way the page appears in split/design view. The black is supposed to be transparent and appears white in the live site, and the bluish area is the currently selected div, which returns to black when deselected. The white areas which show are images with white backgrounds.

Dreamweaver CS5 design view background is black, how can I stop this?
Hey everybody! I have a problem with Dreamweaver CS5's design view only showing a black background. I can create a brand new html document either as a standalone file or as part of a site and it will show a completely black background wheather it's saved or not. This also is a problem with pages that I have already created and with pages created with a Dreamweaver pre-installed template. I can't see anything unless it's not black. It is not affected by background colors either, in fact background colors don't show on anything I make; it's all black! The strange fact about this is that any given page will display just fine in Live View or in any web browser. Thanks in advance, I really need the help on this because I need to use the design view to position elements (which is a lot easier to do than guessing what would look best in code view).

I have changes from Dreamweaver CS5 to CC and it appears all my existing files have a black background in design mode but when I switch to "live" view it looks like it should and does on the net.
New files tend to look as they should. Although this change to CC is very recent. It seems like a configuration / preference issue that I can't find an answer for.
I have a work around at the moment.
Select view in menu -> visual aids -> CSS layout backgrounds
This makes all the CSS areas different colours, but you can see black text and items.
Selecting "LIVE" allows you to see what it is actually like. -
Small images not showing in design view
Desperate for help! I've been trying to diagnose this for a
long time. For some strange reason, images that used to show up in
my design view are now displaying the 'missing image' icon. I've
narrowed it down to this--if the image is less than 8px high, the
image will not display. When I increase it to 8px or more high
(width does not have any bearing on it), the image is displayed.
Same exact image name, same placement, path, file type, etc. The
only variable changed is the image height. Someone please tell me
what is going on. By the way, this just started to happen. These
small images were displaying fine up until yesterday.You have two id="header" elements on the page....
I can see both the 5px tall GIF and JPG images just fine in
CS4.

Design view different from preview - is muse still in beta testing
I have limited experience with coding html so when Adobe released Muse, I was excited. However, I'm wondering if they released it too soon and/or if it is still in beta testing - which I don't mind but would like to know what I'm dealing with. It seems to have a lot of quirks - mainly that the design view is sometimes different from the preveiw or browser view. I spent over an hour yesterday trying to get text boxes to line up. If there is an hidden element affecting the text boxes, I don't see it. I have moved everything off the page and >selected all
and nothing shows up.
Other issues:
Sometimes paragraph styles do not apply - even though in design view it looks like they do.
Can't find a way to center text vetically in a text box other than adjusting the leading?
Can't find a way to organize assets into folders?
When an object is selected on a page, is there a way to indicate that that is the object in the assests panel?
Sometimes the padding options are not available for no apparent reason.
Thanks to the Adobe staff for being responsive as these issues are discovered. One staff member in particular was very helpful as I was trying to get hyperlinks to work right. But I am STILL having a problem. The text box and the text itself have the hyperlink style applied but as you can see on the Dardanelle and Chad Lawson Trio hyperlinks - the style did not take even though they are both hyperlinks that point to the right URL. -- geezermusicclub is the correct link for Dardanelle - It's difficult to see in the pic, but the Dardanelle and Chad Lawson text color is black but the hyperlink text style is brown.
Persoanlly, I feel Adobe should lower the subcription price while all these kinks are being worked out in Muse. In a way, subscribers are **** a LOT of beta testing for Adobe. Not only are we not being compensated for that, we are having to pay for an application that has too many wrinkles.Murray and David: it worked! It is a rare and joyous experience to have a straightforward solution to the sorts of problems I come up with (including other realms). But I have to say that with HTML and CSS (and hence with Dreamweaver), solutions to difficulties have seemed within easier reach than in other parts of the computer world.
By the way, I wanted to choose "correct answer" for both your posts, but after making the first click it was no longer available for the remaining post--so I typed "helpful" even though that one was correct too.

When I'm adding white text it doesn't show up as the background input panel is white, and I keep having to go into Live view to see the paragraph spacings etc. Is there a way round this, other than changing the text colour in CSS to, for instance, black, and then changing it back before I upload the page?
Hi, and thanks, but it's my fault, I think I'm describing it wrong!
I've attached two screenshots from that area of the screen, one with the white text on the white background (showing as invisible) and the other where I've highlighted the text so you can see where it is. The background .jpg isn't a solid colour, it's a pattern, and if I added an equivalent pattern to the text area div, it wouldn't line up properly on all sreen resolutions, so that's why I gave that div a transparent background. When I go into Live view, the page displays perfectly, but in Design view I can't see to make amendments to the paragraphs etc. -
Design View not displaying properly
I am pretty new to Dreamweaver. I can't get my Design view to display properly, even when tried on two different computers. The top div displays properly, then on the nav bar, only the background shows with the table items just listed in a row. There are a lot of black background segments to the page, and thin yellow lines. The main content shows at the bottom after a big chunk of black background blocks. The page shows perfectly fine in a browser. I can only work in Code view because of this. Any suggestions?

</html>I still cannot solve this problem. Can ANYONE out there help, or tell me where I can find the answer. Now I will attach two screen shots of what my Design View looks like. It happens on all pages I have created. I do like working in code view, but there are times when it's easier, almost essential for me to work in Design view. If it works for some people, why not me?
These images are the top and then the bottom of the same page. I have turned CSS rendering on and off, but nothing helps. -

Yes it is possible to do so. Goto View>>Tools Pallete. This will open up a tools pallete which you can use to modify the colours and other viewing options of graphs and anything else on the front panel.
For your purpose u select the background of the graph and click on the "set colour squares" present in the lower bottom corner of the pallete. This will open up a whole range of colors you can select for the purpose. There in the black and white strip of colours, there is a box titled "T" on the right most corner. Select that "T" and your background color will go transparent.

Background in live view different from design view
Why when I am looking at my page in design view it shows up black like I want it to, but when I go to live view or view it on the internet it shows up like the template color that it was when started?
Without the code, it's pretty tough to say what might be happening.
One thing to look at would be the order of you css, including the links to external .css files in the <head> of the page.
If you have two like selectors, for example, two versions of: body {background-color:some color here;}, the one that comes last in the stylesheet links, embedded css, or in the html itself (inline css) will be the one that's used by the browser. -
It's in the code, but not in Design View...
I'm making a few small changes to the template of my site, and an odd problem has cropped up...

The whole site has the same basic layout (only the "maincontent" div, the big space with a black background, has different stuff from page to page).
I'm trying to make some changes to the links in the grey panel at the top of every page - this is a div named "header2".
Somehow, I've managed to make the entire "header2" div vanish from Design View. But its code is still present and correct in Code View.
In Design View, I just see the white panel at the top of the page (the div named "header") with all its content, then the big area with the black background (the "maincontent" div), also with all its content. The grey panel which should sit between them has gone. But its code is all there!
I have no idea what caused this, or how to get Design View to show everything. I don't dare save the template, or upload any of my changes, in case the links panel disappears from my site, but I've undone all my changes so the code I'm looking at in Dreamweaver is exactly as it appears if you look at 'View Source' on the uploaded pages...
Unless, of course, I've missed something. All wise words gratefully received, because I 'm lost!This is the style sheet for the problem page....and I think I may have spotted an error. "header2" is only 300 pixels wide by 50 pixels tall. That's way smaller than it should be!
Having said that, I have no idea how that could've changed, since I didn't (knowingly) alter anything...
I'm also not sure why I have so many font declarations. Again, I didn't knowingly do it that way. I was under the vague impression that Dreamweaver flagged up redundant code...
Anyway, here comes the CSS. "header 2" should be the same width as "header" so I think that's where the problem lies...

DW CS6 Design View & editable regions
I am trying to build a web site from a template I created. When in any of the pages in Design View (not Live) the editable regions push to the right of the rest of the page and can't be edited properly. I can do lots of work in the Code view and then it displays properly Live, but it's all screwed up in Design.
I ran the W3C validation and everything looks good.
Any ideas? This is a really frustrating way to try to build a site.

The Hooker fits most pickup trucks from early 1980s to current models.</h3><br>
<h4>The keys are:<br>
1. You must have access to the bed rail of your truck bed<br>
2. The combined width of the bed rail and any hardware mounted to it must be less than 0.5" (1/2")<br>
3. The flat under the bed rail needs to be about 1" or more wide<br>

Hi
Recently, and I do not think it is specific to an update, Dreamweaver 2014.1.1 build 6981 is opening files and in the design view all styles are not rendering. Do all my fonts are default face and black and links blue. I work in e-mail marketing and my font styles are mainly in-line css. I want to see the proper font-face, color and link styling.
After I do some editing all of a sudden the styling sometimes pops in place. When I preview in browser all looks fine but this is annoying me. It feels like a step backwards. Is there some setting involved for design view to be an actual design view?
I am in Windows 7 service pack1 with an i7 processor and12 GB ram so it isn't a processing issue I am sure.

RLThat's usually a sign of an error somewhere in your code that DW is having issue with. The newer versions seem to be a bit more picky about code issues. Run your pages through the validators at...

And make sure you don't have any major structural errors like missing end tags in your html or missing semi-colons or curly brackets in your css. -
How can I get back to editing in Design view?
I can't edit my web pages in Design view. When I DON'T have Live View on, nor Live Code, I only get a cursor shaped like a NO circle and I cannot click on anything to edit it. I can only make changes in the code window.
What can I do to restore editablilty in Design view?Sorry this has taken so long. I have been trying a few things. One is the fact my template my pages are all based on has an editable region, which is where the uneditable are is within.. Other editable areas in the template are available for me to click into and edit, but not the main area.
I tried moving the main div inside the editable region, but then, although it is now editable, the main div gets wiped away when the site pages get updated. So then I am forced to go back to the previous situation.

White box keeps appearing over list items in design view, I want to know why ?
In my footer area, I have 4 vertical lists that act as my sitemap links, but when I hover over them in design view the entire list gets replaced with a white box and then when I move my mouse away the white box disapears and the list shows again. This does not happen in live view but I would like to know why it does that, or if this will happen when the site goes live, or it just a design view bug.
