Designing a fillable PDF - drop-down list

Designing a fillable PDF - how does one copy the content of the "text" box of one drop-down list to paste into "text" boxes of multiple drop-down lists for the same form?

You can't copy and paste the values from the object palette definition but you can copy and paste the entire object...would that not do the same thing?

  • New Adobe DC works not with fillable Documents (Drop Down Lists) in iOS

    Hi, the new Adobe DC for iOS (iPad) has a big Problem. When you have a fillable Form with some Drop Down Fields it only works with the first Drop Down. Any other Drop Down will not work since you manualy restart the Adobe in the Task Manager. Please Fix that quick! It's not usable for my Company anymore!!!

    Hi together,
    i received a temporary sollution from Adobe to fix that Drop-Down List issue. It works ;-)

    Hi Adrian,
    Your sample form exhibits a bug in the latest release of Mobile Acrobat/Reader.  The catalyst for this bug is a drop down setting called “Commit selected value immediately”.  Because this setting is rarely used for Mobile forms (it is generally used when connecting to a backend or when you want your selection to immediately toggle something else in the form), it may have been overlooked during final testing.  Nevertheless, we are holding this bug in highest priority to be fixed in the next release of Mobile Acrobat/Reader.
    In the meantime, it may be possible to keep your forms usable while you wait for the next release. Some of your drop down fields use the “Commit selected value immediately” setting and some do not.  Looking at your form, it does not appear that this setting is necessary for any form logic (for example, I do not see any javascript or Actions associated with the fields that would mandate this setting). If the drop down fields that have this setting were modified to be like the other drop down fields that do not have this setting, I believe your form will become usable again.  I have done this for the sample form you sent and have attached it to this message.
    Let me know if this solves your immediate problem.  And as mentioned, the bug has been triaged and is being addressed with the highest priority level to be included in the next release of Mobile Acrobat/Reader.

  • Adobe LiveCycle Designer working with 2 drop down list, one response triggers the other

    I am fairly new to Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2, but I would like to have a drop down list of managers and another drop down list of employees.
    I would like this set up in such a way where the manager can click on their own name in the manager list and have a drop down list appear which is only populated with their directly reporting employees.  They can then click on the individual employee they are going to report on.
    Then there will be several questions pertaining to the individual direct report, etc. (This part I can do)
    Is this possible?
    If so, please provide detailed instructions for me to try.
    Thank you in advance.

    Put this in the change event of your Manager drop down:
    var myObj={"Manager 1":"Employee A,Employee B,Employee C",
                        "Manager 2":"Employee D,Employee E",
                        "Manager 3":"Employee F,Employee G, Employee H"};
    DropDownList2.setItems(myObj[this.boundItem(xfa.event.newText)]);
    This is assuming the list of items in that dropdown is "Manager 1", "Manager 2", "Manager 3".
    And DropDownList2 is the name of your Employee drop down.

  • LiveCycle Designer 8.0 - Linked Drop Down Lists

    Hi,
    Im new to Adobe LiveCycle and trying to link two drop down lists. I want the second drop down list to have certain options visible, depending upon the choice selected in the first list.
    I have spent a bit of time with JavaScript and trying to link them, however am struggling.
    Can anyone advise?
    TIA, Mike.

    Hi Mike -
    You can accomplish what you are describing with an array.
    An example of what you are asking about can be found in the Live Cycle Interactive Purchase Order sample found at [installdir]\EN\Samples\Purchase Order\Interactive (at least that's where I found mine, I'm using Live Cycle Designer version 7).
    There are two drop-down lists in this Purchase Order sample: Country and State/Province. Only two countries are listed for the purpose of the example however you can customize the script by adding other countries.
    Look for the script object named 'countryScript'. It contains the logic invoked by the drop-down lists when the form is created and based on the user interaction.

  • Acrobat 9 pro designer -- how to populate drop down list

    I down loaded the acrobat 9 professional trial version and have been trying to see how I can create a drop down list where I can input 500 names. I created the drop down list but the problem is the following. To enter the names in the drop down list I have to type each one and hit enter then enter in the next. I have about 500 names to enter and doing one at at time is not efficient. I tried to copy all the names and paste it into the drop down list but it will only paste the first name.
    Does anyone know how I can enter 500 names all at once into a drop down list box?
    I need a simple solution that can be made without some complicated code.
    please email me [email protected]
    thanks

    thanks you for the response. I am not tech savy when it comes to javascript or form calc any chance you can give more details

  • In a fillable PDF form, can I have choose to have NO default choice in a drop down list?

    In a fillable PDF form, can I have choose to have NO default choice in a drop down list... so that a user is REQUIRED to make selection instead?
    I've set the question as "required", but the default answer makes this useless.
    I want to make sure people actively answer this question rather than accidentally missing it, and me ending up with the default rather than the correct answer!

    Thanks Gilad.
    Similar to what you suggested, I utlimately opted to put a question mark "?" as the default answer - it's just a pity this doesn't address my need for users to be "required" to answer the question.

  • Drop-down list is crashing my interactive PDF document

    Hello, I'm using LiveCycle Designer 7.0 on Windows XP.
    I'm attempting to create some simple editable PDF documents for use by my security staff.
    I've created the forms and most fields work correctly, except for a simple drop-down list field with about 15 choices. When the pdf is called up from Windows and the user reaches that field (either by tabbing to it or clicking on it), the entire pdf crashes; the user is booted out and the pdf closes. The "debug" option doesn't seem to fix anything.
    When I test-run the pdf in Designer, the field seems to work OK. The problem is happening when we open the pdf from Windows.
    I've deleted and rebuilt this field twice, with the same result.
    I'm an Adobe noob and am nowhere near sophisticated enough to employ JavaScript or other behind the scenes programming; I'm just using the basic features of Designer.
    Please help, I'm stuck and don't know how to troubleshoot this problem.
    Thanks in advance to anyone who may be able to point me in the right direction. Remember, I'm a noob, so single syllable words are probably best.

    Hello Srini,
    Thanks very much for your gracious offer. I did a bit more research
    yesterday after posting my issue on the forum, and based on a similar
    thread, I saved my document as a static PDF instead of a dynamic PDF.
    That seems to have done the trick; all fields now work correctly without
    crashing.
    I will still be happy to share the document with you, but my current IE8
    browser is having problems with accessing the specific website; it keeps
    crashing/recovering the tab. My IT department knows about this issue and
    is working to address it. At any rate, since my problem seems to be
    fixed, I'm sure you have other pressing matters to attend to, but thanks
    again for providing support! I will be sure to come back to the forums
    if I encounter any other problems I cannot resolve.

  • Drop down lists are active in PDF when received by email

    Hello,
    I have a form with drop down lists and the form is set so that when the user submits it, the PDF form is sent, not the XML file. The problem is that when I receive the PDF form, the drop down lists are active and I can change the items in the list. Is there a way to disable this so that when the PDF form is received no changes to the form can be made?
    Thank you.

    I think you need to have a flag in a hidden field that indicates that the form has been submitted.  You could set that flag on the form's pre-submit event.  On the form's initialize event, check the flag.  If it's been set (i.e. the form has been submitted before), programatically lock down the form.  Here's a tidy little (untested) recursive function that locks down the form:<br /><br />lockDown(xfa.form.nodes);<br /><br />function lockDown(oNodes) {<br />     for (var i=0; i<oNodes.length; i++) {<br />          if (oNodes.item(i).className == "subform")<br />               lockDown(oNodes.item(i).nodes);<br />          else               <br />               oNodes.item(i).access = "readOnly";<br />     }<br />}<br /><br />Jared Langdon<br />http://www.jlangdon.ca

  • Is it possible to create interactive drop down lists that reference tables on separate pages of the PDF?

    I am looking to create a user input PDF in which drop down lists are utilized to search tables, however, I am not very familiar with the options that are available or if this is even possible?  Also, is it possible to write a background code that could read user inputted text to run a search or even solve some equation? Can someone let me know if these items are possible and/or let me know what adobe program may be necessary to accomplish these tasks? Thanks!

    PDFs have no concept of "tables" like MS Word or MS Excel has. There is content that looks like a table.
    Acrobat JavaScript does know about arrays and form fields. So one could have an array in JavaScript and fill in a series of fields that looks like a table. One can then use JavaScript to search the table.
    JavaScript in Acrobat can accept user input in fields and pop-up windows.
    It is possible to solve user imputed equations if the proper notation or coding is used.

  • SAP Design Studio 1.2 sp01 Filters logic is required for drop down list component

    Hi all,
                   I am working with sap ds 1.2 sp01,In dropdown list, assume it has X,Y,Z. So defaulty it shows first  "X' value in Dropdown list , but in Croos tab from DS_1, it is not related to "x" value, it shows overall Values In formation,but i want "x" value Information.. How can i get in DS?, PLEASE HELP ME OUT.
    .below logics i applied in drop down list component.
                 DS_1.setFilter("Dimension Name", DROPDOWN_1.getSelectedValue());
    and below logic in Application on Startup event:
    DROPDOWN_1.setItems(DS_1.getMemberList("dimension name", MemberPresentation.INTERNAL_KEY, MemberDisplay.KEY, 10));
    Thanks
    Thiru.G

    Hi,
    Try adding "DS_1.setFilter("Dimension Name", DROPDOWN_1.getSelectedValue()); " after
    "DROPDOWN_1.setItems(DS_1.getMemberList("dimension name", MemberPresentation.INTERNAL_KEY, MemberDisplay.KEY, 10));"
    on startup event too.  You should tell the application that you need to filter the data, even if you don't select it manually from the dropbox, in other words ; on startup.

  • Does anyone know how to Add a date drop down list to a pdf file?

    Can someone tell me how to add a Date drop down list in a form

    There's no built-in function that does that in Acrobat, but there are some third-party tools that do.
    The two most known ones are by FormRouter, which is free and based on form fields (but also a bit buggy), and a non-free version created by Max Wyss, which is based on a dialog object.

    GKaiseril - can you help me please?
    I've created a fillable form in Adobe Professional and my text boxes are prefilling...I did a few tests and it promts me to use the language used in my testing.  I do not want the text boxes to show prefilled options.  I checked Options tab and it does not have any values.  I am not sure why it's prefilling and how to remove it.  Any suggestions?

  • My Drop down list won't work in Adobe Reader 9

    I have a form that I created in Adobe Designer 7 but have opened and saved in Adobe Designer 9 (also redid the connection string, because it didn't like 7's). Now I can open and use the form normally in Adobe Acrobat Pro 7 and 9 and in the PDF previews of both Designers. But Adobe Reader 9 won't let the drop down list function the way it is supposed to. Also my form has fields that are binded to a SQL Server 2K5 database.
    Now if Adobe Reader does not allow database connections or fields binded to them, is there a way to get similar functionality in any way?

    Reader Extended? Is that when you open the PDF in Acrobat Pro, go to Advanced, and click "Extend Features in Adobe Reader"? I did that and it still didn't work. Matter of fact it locked up the PDF when I tried to open it in Acrobat Pro 7 or 9.
    Or is that Adobe Reader Extension ES package?
