Would you recommend iWeb 08 to design Apple desktop Widgets? Are there any features in iWeb that makes it easy to create and publish a Widget?

No, but widgets can be created with javascript and it is helpful to understand DOM when implement widgets into iweb generated code.

There is no any such tool like MSVC's Resource Editor or Apple's Interface Builder etc. for InDesign Plugin SDK as these are Platform Dependent. For platform independence InDesign introduced FrameworkResource Compiler tool in which you have to create a .fr resource file which is used to create same user interface for both Win and Mac OS.
You are supposed to edit the one created by DollyX or you can create and include into main resource file.
The syntax are not so easy in first look but with passge of time you feel it simple.
Since the UserInterface development is a bit tedious with InDesign you can use the FlashBuilder for this purpose. The main benefit is that you can use the same UserInterface once created for any CS application to any other CS application.

Creating a Widget: Info.plist help

Hello, I'm currently looking into designing widgets for use on the dashboard, but I'm having some problems. I already have a good understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, so the problem isn't in the creation of a widget itself, but rather the assembly of it.
I have a folder that I am using for a widget, entitled "Sample."
I have all of the necessary files within it:

However, when renaming the folder with a .wdgt extension, I receive an error that says the widget is not valid. I think I am saving the info.plist file incorrectly: according to the Dashboard programming guide, it can be made in any text editor, so when saved from TextEdit, the file name becomes "Info.plist.txt". Is this incorrect, or does it matter? I jhaven't found a guide that goes in depth about the saving of the file, so I want to make sure I know what I'm doing wrong. Have I set up the Info.plist file incorrectly? Or is it something else?

Everything looks okay, except for the name on the Info.plist file. Also, make sure when you create the Info.plist file in TextEdit that you're editing it in Plain Text mode and not Rich Text. When you save it, if it wants to append ".txt" onto the end, uncheck the checkbox that says "If no extension is provided, use ".txt"", then give it an extension of ".plist" and click Save. In any case, the name of the file must be "Info.plist" (w/o the quotes, capital i) exactly.

Well, this sounds quite desperate.
But I have same feelings about my Nokia E6. After Belle update I sometimes just want to throw my phone against the wall.
Oversized and badly designed widgets, oversized homescreen icons, crippled keyboard/d-pad functions, no e-mail notifications, poor battery life, ugly interface of web browser and camera, conversation view by default, no battery status in %, freezing screen, still no notification light solution, keyboard bugs(sometimes won't let me search for contacts from a homescreen) - all this is **bleeping** me off.
Now I regret: a) that I upgraded to Belle, b) that I bought this phone 4 month ago.

How to Move All Emails from MAIL to ENTOURAGE

After 30 years married to Windows I have filed for divorce and am entering a new relationship with Apple via a new Black MacBook. (you may have heard the expression "once you've gone Black you'll never go back"!)
Although many Mac things are elegant the move from Outlook Express and Outlook to MacMAIL was disgustingly painful and amateurish. I now have 25,000 emails mixed up together in MAIL. (They were formerly neatly separated in Outlook Express into various accounts with sub-folders according to my various businesses and projects.) The Apple store that guided me was totally uninformed about the abiity to transfer intact account structures from Outlook Express and Outlook and so I am left with 10 years of filed emails all mixed together ... what a disaster in my first week of the new marriage!!
It appears to me that MAIL is not the serious business email program I need. I have heard that Entourage might be more powerful and flexible, and in fact is similar in functionality to Outlook. My HUGE concern however is the continuation of my pain in moving my emails again.
Can anyone assist me with credible advice on (a.) how to make the move (b.) is Entourage a truly business-strength program (c.) are there any programs to facilitate the transfer, and (d.) how can I get the file organization back again?
I have 6 separate accounts and own all my own domains through which I have my email services (incoming and outgoing mail is controlled by my servers).
This is my first real experience with Apple and it has been painful. While Apple seems truly superior in audio, video, music, graphics and "cool designer widgets" I have found that in a serious business environment in which email is a foundation of our businesses that Apple lags behind. I really hope to be able to embrace the Mac world totally but I am unimpressed about what I have found so far. I would be deeply grateful for any helpful comments.

Have you used Entourage's import feature?
It may not be exact since Entourage does not use the same account and filing structure as Mail but it will be close. There isn't any other way to transfer all Mail.app mailboxes and messages to Entourage that I'm aware of.

Disable Row Selector

Alright, so I have a tabular form (no editable fields) used to delete records using [row selector] and a delete (Apply MRD).
What I would like to do is have the [row selector] hidden/disabled based on a column value.
Is this possible? If so, how do I go about doing this? thanks Trey

Hi Trey,
The Tabular Form is somewhat notorious for being a tricky to customise! There are some enterprising developers out there who have designed "widgets" to let you customise the Tabular Form - have a search around on the forums for "tabular form customise" and other similar search strings.
Alternatively you could look at re-doing the form using APEX collections - these let you build your own tabular form with a PL/SQL generated query, and then you can do what you like with it. Again, have a search for "collections" on this forum and you should find some helpful info.

How do I retain a PDF form widget's design when setting its value using Javacript in Acrobat?

I've been experimenting with interactive PDF forms in InDesign and JS in Acrobat. I think I've encountered something that might be a bug: widget design is overriden when using Javascript to set the field's value in Acrobat. Here's what a checkbox, for example, should look like when checked:

I've tried every single widget property documented in Acrobat's Javascript API Reference to no avail. Initially, checking/unchecking using the mouse works fine. Once the value has been set using JS, Acrobat's default black check character is used for all subsequent toggling, including when using the mouse...
How does InDesign export interactive PDFs with custom icons for widgets? Is there any way to enforce the use of those icons using JS in Acrobat Pro? What's the difference between selecting a checkbox or a radio button using the mouse and setting its value using JS?

I thought it might be the case, too, but all widgets have the same properties both before and after setting the value with JS. I did this check using all documented properties in Acrobat JS Reference in an attempt to figure out what might be going on.
By the way, I don't think Indesign necessarily uses glyphs for the checked state of widgets, although in this case a glyph is used (albeit with different stroke and fill colours for the glyph, acrobat doesn't allow setting these properties AFAIK). With Indesign CS6 it seems you can practically use any Indesign tool to design the widget's On and Off states. So I'm thinking that maybe Indesign exports these with button-like properties where there are no restrictions on appearance (I think there is an "icon" property/object for buttons or something like that). However Acrobat treats them as checkboxes, so if that is the case it is more of a hack. Is there a way to probe an object's various properties other than using JS or the properties pop-up dialog?

Flash Builder 4 - design view - states basedOn + design area widget

Hello,
Since i updated my project from Flex 3 to Flash Builder (4), i have very annoying issues in the design area.
The one in Flex 3 was quite usefull, but the new version is not easy, and straight forward usable.
Here are the 3 issues:
- when i have states designed from another one, i use the basedOn mxml attribute, which was used in Flex 3 and still exist in SDK 4 states system.
But the designer view in Flash Builder don't take those basedOn properties in account!
What can i do? and is it a known bug?
- When i have at least one precific state, i must define a defautl state, in the new SDK. Ok, but in design view, i cant add a new component without making the change only for one state. I can only make the change for the default state, but it will not be taken in account for all the other states, like i can do in Flex 3.
What i want to be able to do this: making changes in design view without selecting ANY state.
Is it possible? How can i do?
- In flex 3, there were a design area widget to select the resolution used for the preview design.
It was very usefull when the application has very dynamic width and height.
In Flash Builder, this widget has been removed.
Why has it been removed? and how can i preview my mxml views wihtout changing width and height values?

The update has been improved in every other areas, so it is not that much important.
I just hope that the new release will fix that (as it has been answered to my post).
The only thing i don't like in new releases of FB is that when the architecture of SDK is aimed to seperate the work between design and code, they focused only on catalyst to create the tools to manipulate design, and they forgot to keep an easy way to do design app directly in FB (with the design view and the style properties of MXML in FB3). But i'm confident that they will give such a tool soon.
But for now, if you don't like the restriction of the new release, you can continue to work with Flex 3 for 0$! And even in Flex 4, you can create MX components for which the design view will work as before. The fact that tools can manage a mix between MX and Spark components is a great thing. It is up to you to choose which you need which its own advantages and drawbacks.
Xcode is real pain to use with outdated ergonomy. It is only usefull to code in Objective C which is another real pain to do.
XCode can be cheapper because all Apple products are quite expansive, so the software to create softwares for them can be much more cheapper.
And Apple get a good revenue share from AppStore, so again they can give a cheap soft to create apps. You also have to pay 100$ to be able to send app to appstore, in ly opinion the good price for XCode should be 0$, not even 80$!
Flash builder 4 is very stable, but if you don't like it, you can choose another tool. Main competitor has no designer at all!

All time Bug! Accordion widget does not retain content position as in design view

I have noticed that content placed inside an accordion widget that is stretched to fill browser width do not retain the position of its elements. This is very annoying as ones layout does not look right and balanced across screen.

Had created the row w/out <td> cells to carry the top banner (sort of cheating) on spanning the cells i guess ( )
Anyway, re-wrote so that the banner table was independant and did not require span and picked up the data table independantly.
Problem solved and designer picked up the image precisely.

Curious though that the image is dependant on the <td> tag. I would have expected any image called within the page to display in the designer regardless of location in the html.
Oh well, fixed and onto the next challenge.

Layout Editor is not rendering widgets during Design time

I am new in ADF development and my page has suddenly stop rendering in Design Tab. Initially, when I was running unbounded task flow, it is just showing a blank page.
Can anybody help me in resolving this issue? I have seen Franks note on PhaseListener. I would appreciate if some one can guide me with the detailed class and how to create the same.

Sorry for the late response and not specifying more in detail.
My Jdeveloper version is 11.1.1.6 R1. When I ran for the first time, it was working fine. Then later on, when I was running it was opening completely blank screen.
I thought it is something to do with the permission to the task flow. I have opened web.xml and jazn-data.xml file to check and closed without tweaking these files.
Now, I was not able to open the page in the designer also. It was just showing hierarchy of all the components.
I copied the backup again and it worked. What could be the reason so that I can avoid doing this in future?
Is this related to Jdeveloper bug as I have seen on other forums highlighting this issue.

Eclipse +flex 3 plugin crashes when trying to see mxml file in design mode

+ adobe flex 3 eclipse plugin.
My workspace consists of several projects + one library.
There is not problem when trying to edit any mxml file when
my library is not imported yet. Once I import it to my workspace I
cannot see any mxml file in design mode since it crashes with the

I've found solution by myself so I'll present it here. Maybe
someone will need it.
The problem of such behaviour was that Flex plugin always (at
least on my pc) wants to ustart eclipse using its own JRE from here
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 3 Plug-in\jre (default dir).
This environment is Java 5. When you go to
eclipse>window>preferences>Java>Installed JREs and you
delete default Flex JRE, add new to point to for example C:\Program
Files\Java\jre1.6.0_04 eclipse still uses JRE from C:\Program
Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 3 Plug-in\jre. Do not know why
Flex/eclipse does that but if you simply overwrite C:\Program
Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 3 Plug-in\jre files with newer JRE from
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_04 all works perfectly.

Very bad practice to just use image slices into your website.

How do I import a Photoshop button (including it's different states) into the muse menu widget?

I had the idea of using the "place Photoshop button" option to configure the states in my horizontal menu bar in Muse. I started out trying to use the widget, after playing with the options it seems I can either load each individual state one at a time in manual mode or I can try to make a menu bar from the buttons and manually place the respective links. I would be grateful for a suggestion or alternative method that is as easy as the "place Photoshop button" option, I love that feature. Thanks in advance.

UPDATE: I found that I could use Fill image then in import fill options, import layer + clip layer contents for each of the states. It was working very well but I noticed an error in one of my buttons states so I had to go back to Photoshop. When I returned to start this process again and I clicked import layer, the states are all flat plain text without any of the blending options I had set for each state. The odd part is that I can see all the layers in composite, but it will not let me place each layer as it did before.
After several frustrating hours going through every step I edited and even trying to load the buttons I thought were exactly the same file I used before I could not find what I had done differently to cause this. I did successfully place each Photoshop button in empty space and the cut and paste them into the menu. Which is way easier then the original method. I would like to know if anyone has an idea what went wrong for the sake of knowledge. Also thought that this cut paste method might help others trying to build menu buttons outside of Muse.

I'm afraid Photoshop is a graphics program ill suited for generating good HTML and CSS code. Use Photoshop to create your images only. Use DW to build your HTML, CSS and menus.
