Detach/makePersistence DTO behaviour

Suppose I have a DAO with crud methods and it handles DTOs which are detached instances of persistence capable classes, for instance:
//DAO
public void update(MyDto dto)
   pm.makePersistent(dto)
//APP
MyDto detachedDto = ...
myDao.update(detachedDto);The dto passed in gets attached using makePersistent but does the client's instance of detachedDto suddenly become persistent?
I was reading the javadocs for PersistenceManager.makePersistent:
"Any references to the detached instances from instances in the closure of the parameter instances are modified to refer to the corresponding persistent instance instead of to the detached instance."
I get lost somewhere in the middle of the that sentence. Can anyone shed some light on the behaviour in this case?
Thanks.
Mark

Is there a particular reason you did not make all classes detachable (it
changes enhancement only slightly and in a non-interfering way). If you
want to trim the object graph, you would be better served using fetch
groups.

We are trying to use 'detach-on-close' option of PersitanceManager. But we
have only some small subset of PersitentCapable objects that are stored in
HTTPSession. So we decided to mark only this subset as 'detachable'.
And... have got kodo.util.UserException that in fact tales us that we
should mark ALL PersitentCapable managed by PersitanceManager as
'detachable'. Oops!
Is there any way to use 'detach-on-close' only with concrete subset of
PersitentCapable objects? It's very strange that PersistentManager uses
detachAll() method instead of checking detachable metadata of its managed
PersitentCapable objects.

  • Erratic behaviour with Tiger 10.4.6

    I have installed Tiger on my B&W G3, upgraded with a ZIF G4/500 OWC upgrade.
    I did not upgrade the previous installation of Panther, but made a fresh install of Tiger on the SCSI drive connected to my Atto card.
    I am experiencing erratic behaviour from mostly all applications (after a while they either freeze, or just shut).
    I noticed that these problems are happening more often with programs
    related to communications, like Safari, Limewire, Azureus, eMule, etc.
    I have tried everything, run disk utility, DiskWarrior, Techtool Pro, but they do not seem to locate any problem with the drive (s) connected to the machine.
    Even the processor does not seem to be the cause. I check the operating temperature, and it always seems to be within the normal limits (anywhere between 40 to 48 degrees celsius, according to Mach Speed Control).
    The last time it happened with Safari, and below is what appeared in the crash log, which is obviously a lot of jibberish to me, but the right eyes will
    maybe be able to identify a problem that my knowledge does not allow me
    to see.
    The computer operates normally after startup, but after about 20/25 minutes in operation, the glitches become evident, as said above.
    The problems do not seem to affect Panther, and os 9.2.2 installed on different partitions.
    All the help will be very much appreciated. thanks

    Andy,
    thanks for the suggestion. I followed your advice and eliminated the two "intruders", and then also re-installed the 10.4.6 PPC Combo updatem but
    all this did not solve the problem.
    As I said, the computer behaves erratically with all apps afte prolonged use.
    Tonight I was using Garageband, and it started freezing. Mind you I only had three tracks in there, two of which locked, and not many effects used.
    The Safari crash.log I attached was just an example for Safari, but the behaviour extends to all other apps, with different inclinations:
    - "coloured" spinning wheel even when there is not much to do or process;
    - excessive waiting for absolutely normal operations (like copying a file
    from one place to another);
    - sudden freezing;
    - As another example, last night my back/forward buttons on the Microsoft
    mouse stopped working. It was enough to restart and everything went
    back to normal.
    I have scanned the disks (all disks and partition) with any imaginable tool you can think off, but nothing turns up.
    After a freeze or strange behaviour, if I restart in single user mode and run a
    /sbin/fsck -f, when I do /sbin/mount -uw /, the system tells me it has eliminated a number of unlinked orphaned files (1,2,3, it depends).
    I am really puzzled.
    thanks

  • Deleting all rows in detached mode hangs application

    Hi all,
    If we click on Detach button of table and do select all and delete , and click on detach button again (i.e to return to main screen), the screen gets hanged.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1.Go to [http://jdevadf.oracle.com/adf-richclient-demo/faces/components/table/updateableTable.jspx?|http://jdevadf.oracle.com/adf-richclient-demo/faces/components/table/updateableTable.jspx? ]
    2. Click Detach
    3.Select all rows and click Delete (choose the third delete button which says 'Multiple row deletes one event' in tooltip )
    4.Click on Detach button again.
    The screen hangs at this point
    Is this a bug ? Any workarounds for this issue.
    FYI, this behaviour is reproducible in Jdev 11.1.1.4 also
    Thanks,
    Vikas

    Is this a bug ? Any workarounds for this issue.You've got the perfect test case to take to https://support.oracle.com, who would be able to answer both of those questions.

  • Strange Oracle Behaviour - only month end or high load periods

    Hi SAP Gurus
    In one of our systems I am expreriencing a strange behaviour from Oracle, in that it seems to be in reconnect, but yet it is not, it resets and carries on but do produce Dump and SM21 log messages, the dump is not really helpfull as it is the same dump but with different program everytime.
    I have looked in oracle alert log and found no event tying back to the SM21 log message or dump.
    The following is what I found in the developer trace of one of these insident, but there are many, about 125 - 200 for the day during high load:

  • Java Object Cache have wired behaviour

    HI,
    I am trying to get my Oracle Java Object Cache working but I am observing some really stange behaviour which has stop it working. So any help will be really useful (10.1.3 and 10.1.2.0.2). I will explain:
    Progammaticly I have setup a parent region call 'DatabaseDataCache' and a sub-region call 'country'. In this region I have defined my object call countriesDto' with a Attribuite that has a CaheLoader attached. In my cache loader I connects to a Entity EJB that loads a bunch of DTOs into the cache.
    What is strange is that when i run the unit test on the code (cactus). The cache seems to call the cache loader 3 times consequtively before the EJB will load the data (i know this due to debuging messages)
    Then in the actual implmentation I have the cache setup code of the in the init() of the servlet but again the cache loader doesn't seem to able to call the ejb it requires. Ones the cache is access it trys to call the cache loader and of course the ejb dosn't get called and is returning me a NullPointerError as I am trying to acces the local interface (in the cache loader). This is strange as in the cactus test it actually calls the ejb ok bit only on the third attemp.
    I am abit puzzled with this so any help will be much appreciated.
    Charlie

    I think I have got what you need. The following is the cactus test class that test the getCountries method in my session ejb:
    public class WebinUtilTest extends ServletTestCase {
    private CacheAccess globParCache;
    public void setUp() throws Exception {
    CacheAccess.defineRegion("DatabaseDataCache");
    globParCache = CacheAccess.getAccess("DatabaseDataCache");
    globParCache.defineSubRegion("country");
    Attributes cAtt = new Attributes();
    cAtt.setLoader(new CountryCacheLoader());
    CacheAccess globCountCache = globParCache.getSubRegion("country");
    globCountCache.defineObject("countriesDto", cAtt);
    globCountCache.preLoad("countriesDto");
    globCountCache.close();
    globParCache.close();
    public void testGetCountries() throws Exception{
    WebinUtilLocal wuLoc = HomeFactory.getWebinUtilLocalHome().create();
    String[] countries = wuLoc.getCountries();
    assertTrue(countries.length >0);
    public void tearDown() throws Exception {
    if (globParCache != null){
    CacheAccess gCache = CacheAccess.getAccess("DatabaseDataCache");
    gCache.destroy();
    When I run this test here is the stack trace I am getting (in order):

  • DTO, Business Objects and architectural layers design

    Hi everybody,
    What would prevent one from using Business objects (properties + getters/setters and bevaviour related to a business entity) thru all tiers of a J2EE Web application ?
    Example : DAO layer populates BO properties, Business layer uses BO behaviour , web layer stores BO in some scope (request,session,...) for view presentation of the BO properties.
    Compared to a DTO/VO (only properties, no behaviour) solution :
    - If the application is distributed the BO solution adds serialization overhead (possibl performance bottlenecks) if BO's are large objects.
    - If there is requirements for clustering , storing large BO's in session adds session replication overhead.
    - BO solution breaks layer isolation , but practically speaking what could be the consequences of it ?
    - Some BO properties need formatting for text deiting by the views and cannot be displayed as is.
    - BO solution is a more OO approach than using only data objects
    What other arguments can you think of ?

    "Session" data applies to the session. Thus when I
    order a book and it is added to my shopping cart the
    session data might be used to store that information.
    But that data in of itself is not a "business
    s object". It is, by definition, session data.Ok conceptually speaking it is session data, but from
    a technical point of view you need an Object instance
    of some sort to hold that data.No actually you don't.
    There are a number of ways to maintain session data. With tradeoffs between each.
    What I was talking about (which does not mean I think
    It is a good idea...) is using the BO properties for
    holding that data and storing the BO instance(s) in
    the session.
    And I still don't see that this is a "Business Object". No more so than a security key is a "Business Object".
    The best term is session data and you might have different groupings (data not behavior) within that.
    Exactly what behavior do you envision?Any computational behaviour that uses the BO
    properties and is needed to implement a use case.
    This behaviour is used to calculate data that is not
    persisted by the DAO as is but rather computed from
    m other persisted data.
    Give me an exact example.
    For example it would be quite reasonable to have a DTO that represents a "rectangle" and that DTO would have a height and width and the DTO would have a method that return the area (multiplying the two data points.)
    Conversely my previous example of the zipcode, the DTO should NOT have a method to validate that the zipcode exists although it could validate that it has the correct form (5/9 digits in the US.)
    The problem is coupling. If the BO needs the
    database layer (see the zipcode example above) then
    the GUI layer is going to need the database layer is
    well. Even though the GUI will never use the
    database layer.I understand that this coupling applies to
    distributed architectures where you package your
    applications in different jars/wars/ears. In this
    case If BO's ared used thru all layers, The GUI
    (web) layer needs the data access layer jars even if
    it will never use it.
    This clearly adds coupling.
    But in the case of a collocated application (a single
    war) it does not change anything.
    No. The point is not how the application is architected.
    The point is that the GUI layer is then dependent on the database layer internals.
    Consider another example, the DTO is produces a formatted xml string using a XML library. Now you need to create the database layer for the system. The database layer does not need the XML at all. And yet just to compile the database layer you are going to have to provide the XML library. This represents coupling that serves no purpose. And although in very small projects it might be convienent in larger projects coupling like that will cause problems and confusion.
    And? Are you suggesting that the BO should do the
    formatting?No I mean that DTO/VO's could have either text
    formatting/editing methods or property types (e.g
    String formatted property for a date) that facilitate
    the work of the presentation layer. And most of the time that is going to be incorrect.
    "Formatting" for a web page is likely to be different than for a printed report. And for a backend system it might need XML which is still a different format. Adding all of that to the DTO is not the way to do it. (In the same way that the database and gui code should not be intermixed.)
    I would not put
    any similar formatting behaviour in the BO. That's
    why I consider this issue while comparing BO and
    DTO's
    - BO solution is a more OO approach than using only
    data objects
    No it isn't.
    An object that prints itself is not more OO than one
    that is printed.
    I thought one of the purpose of OO programming was to
    group behaviour and dataCertainly, but it doesn't mandate that one form of grouping is better than another. After if that was the sole concern then why not have just one object for the entire application - that is one way to "group" it.

  • DTO and JDO Versioning

    I am sending DTOs between Client and Server instead of using attach/detach
    and send the persistent objects back and forth between presentation tier
    and business tier. Since persistent objects has JDOVersion, do I also need
    to add version to DTOs? Is Kodo handling the versioning for me, or I have
    to do it myself. Let me explain my problem with an example.
    Let's say there is a table called CONSUMER in the database. Its has the
    following columns.
    JDOID 1
    JDOVERSION 1
    NAME John Smith
    SSN 111-11-1111
    The corresponding persistent object is
    Consumer
    -- name
    -- ssn
    The DTO is
    ConsumerDTO
    -- objectId
    -- name
    -- ssn
    Client A calls getConsumer() on the Session Facade and got the following
    consumer information.
    ConsumerDTO
    ============================
    JDOID 1
    NAME John Smith
    SSN 111-11-1111
    Client B also calls getConsumer() on the Session Facade and got the
    following consumer information.
    ConsumerDTO
    ============================
    JDOID 1
    NAME John Smith
    SSN 111-11-1111
    Client A changes consumer name to Mary Smith and calls updateConsumer() on
    Session Facade and commit the transaction. The consumer info in database
    table get changed. I think the JDOVERSION will be changed to 2.
    Now, Client B also changes the ssn to 222-22-2222 and calling Sesson
    Facade to update consumer and commit. Is Kodo smart enough to know that
    Client B cannot make the commit since the version is changed? or Do we
    need to make the versioning ourself.
    Thanks in advance for your help!

    Since my persistent objects are not just simply the data objects. They
    contains business logic. I do not want to simply detach them and explose
    to the client. Secondly, I do not want to couple the presentation tier and
    business tier by sharing the persistent objects by UI and server sides. I
    would like to use DTO to decouple UI and server to give UI much more
    flexiblility for DTOs.
    If I am writing my versioning system using DTO, what Kodo is going to do
    with JDOVERSION? Don't you think is this JDO limitation if user wants to
    use DTO?
    For my second question, I am using PM. I mentioned in my previous entry
    that the PM will be opened and closed between two requests. You just
    answered "if not". What about "if yes"? If I use PM then what happen?
    Thanks a lot!
    Stephen Kim wrote:
    First, note that detach/attach feature solves these problems for you as
    it provides DTO functionality in a much simpler package.
    As for your question, versioning is transparent to the persistent
    object. In fact exposing it by mapping a field to the column will be
    problematic. However, the state image version indicator simply takes
    into account the fields as versioning info such that a specific number
    doesn't have to be transferred. Alternatively you can use Kodo's
    runtime APIs to retrieve that information for you to use in some
    versioning system. And finally, you can write your own DTO specific
    versioning system using a persistent field which encapsulates the
    behavior you need.
    As for your second question, it is dependent on if you are using the PM
    or not. If not, no. The cache only stores the -data- and not the
    persistent object itself.

    Answered via support. See documentation for version indicators.Thanks, Abe. I read the documentation for version indicators. I still
    doesn't get my answer. We are using the default version number indicator.
    The problem is that I am using DTO which keeps the identity in order to
    re-associate the persistent object. My question is: do I need to have the
    DTO keeps the version or not.
    BTW, I have another question.
    I have two client requests. The persistence manager will be open and close
    between these two requests.
    The first request is to get consumer by name. Once I get the consumer
    persistent object. I created a DTO and set the identity and other
    attributes using the persistent object.
    The second request is to update consumer after UI made some changes. I am
    using the identity in the DTO to re-associate the persistent object using
    consumer =
    (Consumer)pm.getObjectById(pm.newObjectIdInstance(Consumer.class, objId),
    true);
    What kodo does after I call above method? Does it return the same
    persistent object of my first request using cache or Kodo is going to
    retrieve the database and give me a new persistent object? Thanks!

  • Tmux and xsession detachment, failed to commit changes to dconf

    Hi guys, I just moved over from Linux Mint to Arch Linux, and am trying to set up my desktop environment in a similar fashion.
    I'm currently running cinnamon desktop environment.
    Following https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/tmux , I've installed tmux and am experiencing an issue.
    When in gnome-terminal with tmux session started, I tried to run applications like 'nemo' and 'gitg'.
    The terminal keeps printing warnings whenever I tried to do re-sizing of the UI elements e.g. split pane, window resizing. Of course, the UI resizing doesn't work too and reverts back to default, causing annoyance.
    dconf-WARNING **: failed to commit changes to dconf: Could not connect: Connection refused
    Searching the forum, I came across this topic https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=165485 which hints on corrupted dconf file. I tried the the fix without success.
    After further digging, I found a comment in launchpad bug-tracker https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/975889.
    Sepero (cowpie2000) wrote:I discovered that this problem was occurring because the terminal (running in screen) was no longer attached to the current Xsession. So the only issue here is that the output message could be more clear.
    Using the hint above, I did a test by running the applications in plain gnome-terminal without tmux, the above warning does not appear, and all UI behaviours are as per normal.
    If the xsession detachment issue is indeed the case, then I probably must have missed a config settings somewhere for tmux, gnome-terminal, bash, or other related settings.
    I'm all ears for some direction where I can look into to address this issue.
    Thank you.
    Edit: After posting this thread, a package update and system reboot caused the issue to disappear. I can no longer reproduce the issue at the moment.

  • Different query behaviour (index or no index use) between sql and pl/sql

    Hi All,
    I have a query inside a cursor in a procedure, let's say:
    cursor c_emp (b_dept_no in number)
    is
    select *
    from emp
    where dept_no = b_dep_no;
    There is an non unique index on dept_no.
    In this procedure i first loop through another cursor which gets the dept_no and with this dept_no i go into a for loop for the c_emp cursor.
    When i run this procedure i see that the explain plan of above query gives me a Full table Scan on EMP, eventhough there is a index on dept_no and there are 1.3 million records in the em table. When i take the above query and explain it seperately, it uses the index on dept_no.
    I have rebuild/analyzed the tables and indexes, nothing seems to work. Even hints in the procedure cursor are not helping at all.
    I'm using Oracle Database 10.2.0.1.0 and have never seen such behaviour before.
    Anyone an idea what is going on here?
    Kind regards,
    Dave

    Hoi Rob,
    it's like i have three tables. The first i have to get data from for my output, then for every record of table one there are one or more records in table 2 and table 3.
    I had to create a xml file and it looks like this:
    <Table1 Record 1>
    <Name>...</Name>
    etc...
    <Table2 Record 1>
    </Table2 Record 1>
    <Table2 Record 2>
    </Table2 Record 2>
    <Table3 Record 1>
    </Table3 Record 1>
    <Table3 Record 2>
    </Table3 Record 2>
    <Table1 Record 2>
    etc.etc.etc.
    So that's why i programmed:
    for r_1 in c_table1 loop
    for r_2 in c_table2(r_1.dept_no) loop
    end loop;
    for r_3 in c_table3(r_1.dept_no) loop
    end loop;
    end loop;
    And when i look at the first record,
    it has 2 records in table2 en 16 records in table3. So nothing huge.
    For now i'm unable to trace the session. I will try to post the tkprof later.
    Kind regards,

  • Has there been updates to transcription support in a PS 4 Windows Update? Behaviour has changed...

    I utilise PowerShell transcription support heavily in my PS scripts. Essentially I utilise transcription as a replacement to having a logging framework - all logging is performed via Write-Host, Write-Verbose and Write-Debug calls, and then logged to file
    via a call to Start-Transcript at the start of script execution.
    Transcription support in PS versions prior to 5 is limited in that it is hard coded in the Start-Transcript and Stop-Transcript commands to throw an exception if the host is not an instance of Microsoft.PowerShell.ConsoleHost. Also, to make it even more difficult,
    Stop-Transcript throws an error when there is no active transcript; but there is no way to detect if there is. Therefore, I use reflection to get the ConsoleHost.IsTranscribing internal property value to determine whether to call Stop-Transcript at script
    completion. This logic has worked fine for PS versions 2, 3 and 4. However, more recently I believe a Windows Update patch has changed the way the transcription works. It appears that PS 4 now supports transcription functionality that I thought was PS 5 (CTP)
    specific - nested transcription sessions (i.e. you can now continually call Start-Transcript and it will create more sessions, rather than throw an error when there is an active session).  Also, the internals of how transcription is managed must have
    changed because the IsTranscribing property no longer returns the correct value. I am unsure if there is now a "supported" way of checking for this rather than hacking into the internals of the host. This change results in my script creating multiple
    transcription sessions as it does not know there is already transcription started.
    Does anyone know if there has been any updates in PS 4 for the transcription functionality? Or any other details regarding this?
    Cheers

    Hi Anna,
    Thanks for the response. Can you make sense of the info below? Transcription appears completely broken
    on the build on my machine, which I have not installed any PS CTP on. I am worried a hotfix such as KB3000850 which has also caused me the grief here:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/eaa4a532-5ff5-4a2f-89ce-7e72c71a8fb7/powershell-30-stuck-in-infinite-loop-resolving-members-internally-is-this-a-ps-bug?forum=winserverpowershell
    https://connect.microsoft.com/PowerShell/feedback/details/1045858/add-member-cmdlet-invokes-scriptproperty-members-when-adding-new-member
    ...has been installed via Windows Update. I am running Windows 8.1 and all latest updates applied as at 23 April.
    My $PSVersionTable is the same as yours except for "BuildVersion" 6.3.9600.17400. I can also call Start-Transcript continually and it will keep creating sessions. Once I do this all sessions receive data once I
    enter more commands in the console (i.e. each file is getting the same data). This is the behaviour I would have expected in PS 5 with the transcription updates, but not in a PS 4 update.
    NOTE: In addition to this, the data being fed into the transcription file is NOT the same format as the standard transcription format. The transcription file contains different data and
    is not a true reflection of what is on the console). The following data is being output to the transcription file after each command:
    CurrentMatchIndex              ReplacementIndex             ReplacementLength CompletionMatches
                               -1
    0                             8 {System.Management.Automat...
    In addition to that (I haven't had a chance to look into this in detail), but the log files that are being generated by the PS module I have written are now containing a heap of contents that appear to be generated each time an exception
    is thrown (even if it has been caught?)
    "PS>TerminatingError(Invoke-Expression): xxxxxxx" and
    "PS>TerminatingError(): "The pipeline has been stopped.""
    messages, but no host, verbose, or debug data (i.e. terminating error details only, which I have never seen in the transcript file before). That's correct -
    the transcription file doesn't contain any of the data it used to, just error info that did not used to be in there!!
    Please assist urgently, this is a critical issue for me.

  • APEX Application behaviour in a RAC setup

    Hi
    Caveat first: I'm pretty new to Oracle RAC and just looking into it as an option. We have an APEX application currently running in Oracle 11gR2 single node currently and are considering HA for this.
    My question is: What would be the expected behaviour seen by a User of an APEX application, in the event of a node failure, when running with an OHS / RAC configuration? Will they get "transparent fail-over" and see nothing or will they see an error?
    I appreciate I could post in the APEX forum, but feel that is probably more of a development forum and possibly someone here has had to look at things at this level.
    I have read what I think may be the definitive reference for this:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/learnmore/apex-rac-wp-133532.pdf
    but while it covers most of what I want I don't believe I have found an answer to my question
    This states:
    "The Transparent Application Failover (TAF) feature of Oracle Net Services is a runtime failover for high-availability environments. It enables client applications to automatically reconnect to the database if the connection fails and, optionally, resume a SELECT statement that was in progress. The reconnection happens automatically from within the Oracle Call Interface (OCI) library. For applications that do insert, update or delete transactions, the application must trap the error when the failure occurs, rollback the transaction, and then resubmit. If the application is not written to be TAF aware, the session will get disconnected."
    However (as I understand it) APEX runs in the database and would fail with the database, it isn't a typical "client application" connecting to Oracle via a TAF aware connection pool - it is essentially a large pl/sql package and TAF only covers SELECT statements not packages.
    May be I'm over-reading this and it's simpler than that: APEX/Mod_plsql might just handle it?
    - APEX User/HTTP session state is stored in database APEX: Understanding session state which is available on other nodes
    - Mod_plsql in OHS can detect the error returning and reissues the request to good server and APEX on that instance can retrieve Users/HTTP state and process the request (APEX/RAC doc states mod_plsql can see an error from database and cleanup connection up and form a new connection, but not that it will retry the request for the client into other APEX/DB node).
    I'm really just after a (transparent/non-transparent) statement based on experience, but an outline of how the components behave would be useful.
    Thanks in advance
    Dave

    Hi
    Any chance of getting that link outside of Metalink? - I'm trying to get our customer support id, but no luck at present.
    I'm aware that APEX can run with RAC (as per the link I posted) - I'm really after next level info around behaviour in that environment.
    Thanks

  • MacBook Pro (mid 2012) turns on when lid is closed and MagSafe gets attached or detached.

    I own a mid-2012 Macbook Pro with the 15" high resolution screen add-on (it's the model that was released alongside the new retina versions). The processor is a 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7. I run OS X 10.8.4.
    I'd like to know if the following behavior is normal: when the computer is sleeping with the lid closed, and the MagSafe adaptor is either attached or detached, removing it or attaching it (with the lid still closed) will make the computer wake up from sleep. You can easily hear the fans starting when it does so. It'll stay on for 30 seconds to a minute, and then go back to sleep again. The screen doesn't seem to turn on when this happens and the lid is closed. Opening the lid when the computer exhibits this behavior results in a black (and useless) screen. In order to be able to use the pc you need to wait until it goes back to sleep on its own and then turn it back on.
    Another (possibly related) issue appears when the PC turns off automatically (either while running or during sleep) because the battery is exhausted. When this happens, I usually attach the adapter (with the lid open, most of the times) and then press on the power button. A black-and-white screen with a loading bar appears for a few seconds, and then the full-color login screen appears (my pc is set to ask for the password every time it wakes from sleep). After the loading bar is gone and the full-color screen is back, I am unable to input my password, even though the password field looks focused. Neither the keyboard nor the mouse are responsive. This often happens in such a way that it is impossible for me to input my password (or interact with my pc) before it goes back to sleep for lack of interaction. Recently I've discovered that randomly pressing the power button and some keys on the keyboard (I still don't know what exactly triggers this) will make it able to receive input and thus I'll be able to type in my password and log in.
    I'd like to know if any of you have encountered the two behaviors I've described and if you think they're normal or have any solutions for them.

    Hello terabytest,
    I would be concerned too if my MacBook Pro exhibiting the behavior you described.  For a message like this, I recommend resetting your System Management Controller (SMC) and NVRAM.
    Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
    Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
    Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
    On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
    Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
    Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
    You can find the full article here:Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
    Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
    Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
    Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

    When trying to update my Mail Account Mailbox Behaviours settings, after making the changes when I try to close the settings pane the following messages occur: Invalid Incoming Mail Server The “Incoming Mail Server” field cannot be empty. The incoming mail server box has in light grey colour: p02-imap.mail.me.com in it and I cannot edit its content. Any ideas what is going on and how to fix it?

    Hi all,
    Mattreichenbach is probably on the right track here with a reset of settings.  I think I've determined the issue has to do with cached account information and inconsistencies for the account name.  This seems to crop up when I've changed my password and it hasn't propagated fully to all the servers, devices, certificates, etc.
    Hopefully many here are on their way to restoration of service by now but it's clear that a lot of people are having the same issues.  Very frustrating and definitely something Apple needs to resolve:  incoming mail server field grayed out, incorrect autopopulation of different fields, other unanticipated behaviors.  If you're still having issues, though, here's what worked for me...
    First, head to the iCloud preferences pane in System Configuration and choose "Sign Out".  When I did this it prompted me with a number of "are you sure" type questions about retaining information on my local machine.  I chose to delete/remove the info each time simply because it should all be restored by the cloud and I didn't want to risk a massive duplication of my data... I will say, I'm back up and running with no issues so I suspect you can make the same delete/remove choices...  But use your own judgment.  I don't want you to lose any data (ie.. please use care as you do this because I cannot bear the thought of causing anyone to experience the pain of data loss).
    Once you've signed out of iCloud, restart your system.  When you get back in, head to the Mail, Contacts and Calendars section of your System Preferences and add your account back by choosing the brushed aluminum "iCloud" button.  When it asks for your account name, use your @iCloud.com email address.  I am all but certain my issue had started because one of my devices (iPhone or whatever) had been set up with an email alias specified instead of my @iCloud.com address.
    Apple, if you're reading through any of these issues (there are TONS of users having this same problem).  Take note, that your icloud service somewhat frequently is not responding and yet tells the user that the password is wrong and this prompts people to be changing their passwords unnecessarily.  This has happened to me on numerous occasions.  Also, I noticed that last week's outage corresponded to a VERY similar outage exactly one year ago to the day.  Sounds like planned maintenance to me and I think you could do a better job notifying folks so we're not wasting HUGE amounts of time troubleshooting a problem that we have no hope of fixing.
    Hope that helps some of you!

  • Behaviour of Microsoft Transporter Suite (Notes migration to Exchange 2007)

    Dear Sir,
         I have a question about configuraiton of Microsoft transporter, not sure whether it is a behaviour or it can be fixed.
    Question 1:
    Lotus Notes 7.04 --> Exchange 2007
    Microsft Transport: Scheduler set to every 15 min.
    Q1. Does it mean that Notes sync to AD User account setting only in every 15 min only ?
    Q2. It seems that it will not sync Notes email mailbox message with Exchange mailbox until manual press
        'Migrate selected mailbox', may I confirm that is it a design behaviour.
    Q3. After created free/busy connector (Every 60 minutes of sync), it seems that it will not sync
          user calendar until manual pressed 'Synchronize Now'.
    Q4. Can Mirocosft transport suit support workstation NSF file to PST file ?
    Q5. In notes environment, ACL will be used to configure boss/secretary condition which allow send as permission.
        Does it mean that all permission will be reconfigured manually? Or any Microsoft tools to work on it.
    Regards,
    Joe

    Hello Joe,
    I checked with a specialist regarding your questions and here are the responses.
    I hope this helps!
    Q1. Does it mean that Notes sync to AD User account setting only in every 15 min only ?
    If this is referring to Direcctory Synchoronization, then yes, it will synch any updates every 15 minutes. However, there is no reason to do a dirsync that often.
    Q2. It seems that it will not sync Notes email mailbox message with Exchange mailbox until manual press
        'Migrate selected mailbox', may I confirm that is it a design behaviour.
    This one seems to refer to migration. If you are wanting to migrate the mailboxes and email, you would have to manually migrate each user. In other words, this is not an automated process. So yes, this is by design
    Q3. After created free/busy connector (Every 60 minutes of sync), it seems that it will not sync
     user calendar until manual pressed 'Synchronize Now'.
    A dirsync will have to be run after the Free/Busy Connector is created. However, it should only have to be run once. After that, when a user requests new calendar information, it will pull information for that user
    Q4. Can Mirocosft transport suite support workstation NSF file to PST file ?
    Yes, you will have to use the EMS to do this. It's not possible via the GUI.
    Q5. In notes environment, ACL will be used to configure boss/secretary condition which allow send as permission.
        Does it mean that all permission will be reconfigured manually? Or any Microsoft tools to work on it.
    There is not an automated way of doing this.
