Strange Oracle Behaviour - only month end or high load periods

Hi SAP Gurus
In one of our systems I am expreriencing a strange behaviour from Oracle, in that it seems to be in reconnect, but yet it is not, it resets and carries on but do produce Dump and SM21 log messages, the dump is not really helpfull as it is the same dump but with different program everytime.
I have looked in oracle alert log and found no event tying back to the SM21 log message or dump.
The following is what I found in the developer trace of one of these insident, but there are many, about 125 - 200 for the day during high load:

  • Strange delete behaviour

    Hi,
I'm currently facing a very strange Oracle behaviour. First of all, here are the settings:
    * 2 CPUs @ 1,6 GHz
    * Raid-0 with 2 x 160 GB
    * 3 GB RAM
    * Windows 2000 Advanced Server
    * Oracle Standard 9.2.0.7 using standard settings for the instance
On the machine there is only one db (containing one instance) running, nothing else (beside the OS). The instance has 1GB shared memory assigned and contains about 5 GB of data distributed in approx. 750 tables.
I'm trying to delete all non-master data from the instance via simple "delete <table> where id in (select id from some_table)" statements in a script. This works perfectly (approx. 2-3 million deleted records per hour), processor load is about 50%, the Windows system monitor shows few hundred kilobytes of data read/written per minute.
But this changes after maybe one hour running time. CPU load sinks to 4-5% and data transfer rate rises to approx. 2GB(!!) per minute. I tried to abort the deleting process and rebuild all indexes as well statistics of the schema affected, but without any improvements. The only thing working at the moment is commiting the transaction and shutting down/restarting the instance. Afterwards everything is working fine (without index/statistic rebuilding!), but only for the time period mentioned before.
Does anyone know what could be the source of this behaviour? Anyone got any hints what to change for a better performance? I already thought of bulk inserting the whole schema in a cloned schema without constraints, but 700 tables contain a lot of constraints and triggers, so a consistent insert would be a pain in the tush...
    Thanks in advance!

No, the disks are internal as is the raid controller. And strangely enough, not writing causes a high data rate, but reading! I assume that if the caches are too small the DB starts reading the indexes time and again, but 2 GB of index reading per minute??? No way, I say. Few hundred kilobytes or even a few megabytes makes sense in my opinion, but not the amount mentioned...
Truncating the tables would be a solution, but have you already tried to empty a 750 table schema with constraints and triggers implementing data inheritance? I have, and it didn't work, afterwards data consistency was not given any more...
I have already tried to delete the data in batches, each followed by a commit operation. But this brought the same result after a while, which was reading GBs of data per minute...

  • Delivery Block at PGI level based on GI date and Month end date

Business need a check on delivery processing based on the Planned GI date, Month end date and transit period. This transit period is a custom field and dependent on customer. Also it is not maintained anywhere in system. Business store it in some excel format.
The logic needed is: For any given month, the delivery order MUST be goods issued in the same month, i.e. once the order is delivered, the Post goods issue should ONLY be allowed if and only if , the PLANNED GI date ( as maintained in delivery ) + transit time ( at customer level ), falls within the month end date. If not, a block should be applied at PGI and only authorized personnel should be able to release that block.
Also, there will be no check at invoicing VF01 level. Once the PGI blocked is removed, there will be no check on invoicing. The month end date may vary month to month and need to in combination of Sales Org / Plant as mentioned
In addition, the business need an exception report where the information of releasing the block should appear for release date, user id of the responsible person, time sales order no etc. and it should be downloadable.
We can have a custom table to maintain the month end day in given combination.
But I need your expert inputs as-
1-     Can we add this transit period in at customer master data as it is dependent on customer and there are huge no of customers for the sales unit? If not, then how to maintain it; may be a z table?
2-     Based on this logic, what should the code/logic to be written for block at PGI.
3-     How to control the authority check for removing the block.
4-     The source fields for exception report.
    Pls revert accordingly.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hello,
Please refere the answers to your questions:
1- Can we add this transit period in at customer master data as it is dependent on customer and there are huge no of customers for the sales unit? If not, then how to maintain it; may be a z table?
You can either use some un-used Feild in Customer Master or maintain a Z-Table. I believe maintaining a Z-Table would be easy as you have huge number of Customers. You can also write a dmall program to Pick the Customer-wise transit dates from a excel file & store in Z-Table.
2- Based on this logic, what should the code/logic to be written for block at PGI.
You have explained the requirement well in your thread, you need to explain the same to your ABAPer & Basis person & they would do the needful.
3- How to control the authority check for removing the block.
Basis person would create & assign a Z-Authorization object which the ABAPer would use in his program.
4- The source fields for exception report.
Once you do the above development, your ABAPer will easily pick the required feild in Report as he has already used all the feilds somewhere in his development.
    Hope this helps,
    Thanks,

I can't be the only person who has this problem with iCal- when a month ends on a Saturday I can't drag events into the next month and instead have to cut and paste - a real pain in the butt. I thought there was something called "scroll" but I can't find that.

Yeah that works, but, it involves a click on the event, a click on edit, a click on the date, keystrokes, plus, since you can't see the next month you have to have a calendar in front of you so as to put it to the right date. It's easier just to cut it and advance the month and paste it, once you are in the right month you can move it around helter skelter willy nilly no problems. Although now that you mention it I will try it, maybe it is easier than cut and paste as I don't really care about the date, as long as it gets moved into the right month I can drag it around all I want.

  • Reversal is only possible after CO month end closing

I am getting the error Reversal is only possible after CO month end closing while doing partial or full confirmation. I had already checked the OKP1 the period is open. Also in MMRV it is fine. Please suggest what could be the reason for this error.
    With Regards

    HI
Yes u are right it is a custom message starting with Z. The message is as below:
Msg.typ Application Area     MsgNo Name of Area of Responsibility Spec.ResAr Number   Numer.
    Order        Seq.   OpAc
    Message Text
    E       Z1                   025                                                  1        1
Reversal is only possible after CO-month end closing !
In detail analysis the only details are
Reversal is only possible after CO-month end closing !
    Message no. Z1025
Also when i do the back button the message i am getting is
Error in determining actual costs for order. The detail analysis for the same is
Error in determining actual costs for order 70076492
    Message no. RU085
    Diagnosis
The actual costs could not be determined correctly due to incorrect or missing data.
    System Response
The determination of actual costs is terminated.
However, the confirmation itself can be saved. Error records are written for a subsequent determination of actual costs. Using these error records, the determination of actual costs can be repeated once the original causes of the errors have been removed.
The transaction COFC for reprocessing the determination of actual costs can be found, for example, using the menu options "Logistics -> Production -> Production Control -> Confirmation -> Reprocessing -> Actual Costs."
However, it is not possible to write error records for run schedule headers, QM orders or header confirmations. In this case, the confirmation transaction must be terminated because a subsequent determination of actual costs is not possible.
    Procedure
You can find the exact cause of the termination of the determination of actual costs in the error log for actual cost determination.
You can switch the error log on and off using the variable parameters.

  • Settlement of the month end process order KKS1 & C088

    Hello all ,
we are trying to settle the variance & upadte WIP for the month end but facing some  problems.
When try to Run KKS1 getting the errors for some ordera as
Only remaining var. in version 0 - no target costs for 000001003928.
Should we just ignore these errors & proceed with the settlement which is using Txn CO88.
Also if I run the CO88,I  hope it just updates the WIP account so whether there is any high risk of running this transaction.
Any documentaion on CO88 will be helpful  & also if you can explain what is reasons for  the errors on KKS1 then it will be quite helpful .
    Thanks,
    AG

    Hello All ,
One more question . I have done the variance calculation for my process order via KKS2 but when I run CO88 it does not settle this order . Not sure what is the criteria for order not considered for the settlement.
Order already has the delivered & Techoed status.
    Thanks,

  • Strange memory behaviour using the System.Collections.Hashtable in object reference

    Dear all,
Recently I came across a strange memory behaviour when comparing the system.collections.hashtable versus de scripting.dictionary object and thought to analyse it a bit in depth. First I thought I incorrectly destroyed references to the class and
child classes but even when properly destroying them (and even implemented a "SafeObject" with deallocate method) I kept seeing strange memory behaviour.
Hope this will help others when facing strange memory usage BUT I dont have a solution to the problem (yet) suggestions are welcome.
    Setting:
I have a parent class that stores data in child classes through the use of a dictionary object. I want to store many differenct items in memory and fetching or alteging them must be as efficient as possible using the dictionary ability of retrieving key
/ value pairs. When the child class (which I store in the dictionary as value) contains another dictionary object memory handeling is as expected where all used memory is release upon the objects leaving scope (or destroyed via code). When I use a system.collection.hashtable
no memory is released at all though apears to have some internal flag that marks it as useable for another system.collection.hashtable object.
I created a small test snippet of code to test this behaviour with (running excel from the Office Plus 2010 version) The snippet contains a module to instantiate the parent class and child classes that will contain the data. One sub will test the Hash functionality
and the other sub will test the dictionary functionality.
    Module1
    Option Explicit
    Sub testHash()
    Dim Parent As parent_class
    Dim d_Count As Double
    'Instantiate parent class
    Set Parent = New parent_class

'Add dummy data records to the child container with x amount of data For d_Count = 0 To d_CycleCount
    Parent.ChildContainer("TEST_hash").InsertDataToHash CStr(d_Count), "dummy data"
    Next
'Killing the parent when it goes out of scope should kill the childs. (Try it out and watch for the termination debug messages)
'According to documentation and debug messages not really required!
    Set Parent.ChildContainer("TEST_hash") = Nothing
'According to documentation not really as we are leaving scope but just to be consistent.. kill the parent!

    Hi Cor,
Thank you for going through my post and took the time to reply :) Most apreciated. The issue I am facing is that the memory is not reallocated when using mixed object types and is not behaving the same. I not understand that .net versus the older methods
    use memory allocation differently and perhaps using the .net dictionary object (in stead of the scripting.dictionary) may lead to similar behaviour. {Curious to find that out -> put to the to do list of interesting thingies to explore}
I agree that allocated memory is not a bad thing as the blocks are already assigned to the program and therefore should be reallocated with more performance. However the dictionary object versus hashtable perform almost identical (and sometimes even favor
    the dictionary object)
The hashtable is clearly the winner when dealing with small sets of data.
The issue arises when I am using the hash table in conjunction with another type, for example a dictionary, I see that the dictionary object's memory is stacked on top of the claimed memory space of the hashtable. It appears that .net memory allocation and
reuse is for .net references only. :) (Or so it seems)
In another example I got with the similar setup, I see that the total used memory is never released or reclaimed and leakage of around 20% allocated memory remains to eventually crash the system with the out of memory message. (This is when another class
calls the parent class that instantiates the child class but thats not the point of the question at hand)
This leakage drove me to investigate and create the example of this post in the first place. For the solution with the class -> parent class -> child class memory leak I switched all to dictionaries and no leakage occurs anymore but nevertheless thought
it may be good to share / ask if anyone else knows more :D (Never to old to learn something new)

  • Using accrual engine for reversal of month end provisions

    Hello everyone,
I am working on a requirement to set up accrual engine for automatic reversal of month end provisions (like electricity expense provision at month end which will be reversed on first day of next month).
I understand that accrual engine is meant for handling accruals and deferrals. But having seen the manual option of FBS1 and F.81, I felt there must be an option in the accrual engine also to handle provisions and their reversal. Also, I saw some comments in this forum that using accrual engine it is possible to automatically reverse the postings.
So I set up a test scenario in sandbox client with basic configuration for Manual Accruals (accrual type, methods, object category, number ranges, account determination)
After that I created an accrual object which automatically created an FI document for the provision entry. So far it is fine and working as expected. Now, for reversing the document, I see two options:
    1) Reverse entire accrual run; or
    2) Reverse the accrual object.
By reversing the accrual object, I was able to post a reversal FI document. I am not sure whether reversal of entire accrual run is right option since SAP help recommends to use this in case wrong key date was used.
But both options require manual execution for reversal.
Am I missing some other option? Is there any other option/setting in the accrual engine where it is possible to set up automatic reversal of a month end provision? Only if this is not feasible, I would look at other solutions (like FBS1+F.81 or FBS1+background job for F.81).
Any inputs/pointers from the learned members will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Raghu

    Hello Raghu,
As far as I know, all clients I worked with preferred using "FBS1+background job for F.81" as they found this more flexible (adapt job variant and possible dynamic selection), easy to maintain and well understood by accountants (rather than using accrual type, methods, object category...)

  • Forecast Doubling at Month End

Has anybody run across the anomoly where when a month ends and a new month begins in the same week and the forecast numbers double?
    Thanks
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
You could try out the following in your quality system to try to find out exactly where you have the issue (if not done already):
    1) Delete the forecast for one product (or few products) using /sapapo/md74 for all time periods for which you release the forecast from DP to SNP
    2) Modify the variant of the job that you use to release the forecast to include only the product (or products) for which you deleted the forecast above (leave all other selection criteria as they are)
    3) Run ONLY the forecast release job. It would now release teh forecast only for your selected products.
Now check the forecast data for the above selected products in SNP planning view:
    a) If data has not doubled yet in SNP, that would mean that some SNP macro which runs later in a job must be causing the doubling. Focus on the SNP jobs that run after the release, and try to identify the macro.
    b) If the data is having this doubling issue already, then try to come out of the SNP planning book. You would see either of the following behaviour:
b1) If system asks you for a save that means that some default macro has run when you entered the planning view, and it's trying to save the data when you exit the view. You can then focus on the default & entry kind of macros available in your planning view.
    OR
b2) If system didn't ask you to save, that means data had already changed during release. Then you could focus on enhancements used in release or possible SAP bugs.
    Hope this shoudl help.
    Thanks - Pawan

  • Direct Posting of Sales in FI and month end closing

    Dear Experts
    I learnt that :
Sales Direct Entries may be posted in FI without posting in SD/MM.
Sales entries must always be posted only through SD process. If this is NOT done (for example freight rate received from third party freight forwarders), then only FI people should know how to reconcile and NOT sd people. Hence I recommend posting your query in FI forum after closing this thread.
    Regards,
My question is , during month-end closing how should FI or accounting address the above direct posting issues?
Apparently, such practice is not right.
There is no trace of the sales in SD MM. There is no corresponding billing doc in SD MM but found in FI .
How should this situation be handled as best practice?
I am BI person but found this issue with FI data not reconciled with SD MM.
I am not sure how the month-end closing was done when there is such data. Yes, the problem was found AFTER month was closed and I loaded the data to BI.
    best regards
    Pascal

    Dear Sirs
What is the fastest easiest way to find out which FI direct entries were posted without corresponding Sales / Billing documents created ?
Is there any standard report or reports available in oss?
Currently, our other interfacing systems are having problem with data due to direct entries where there is no corresponding Sales / Billing docs posted. This is causing a lot of time investigating what entries caused the reconciliation problem.
Your help would make my life easier.
    Thanks!

  • Strange digital artifacts at the end of each song importing via iTunes

I've tried a few variations on archive searches and wasn't able to find an answer to this: In ripping some of my CD's into iTunes (either Apple Lossless or WAV) I've been getting some very odd, brief digital artifacts at the end of each songs on a CD. This sounds like two or three seconds of an audio tape on fast forward. It only seems to happen on new releases (I cannot think of any older CD's it's occurred on). I just got a copy of Mary Gauthier's new album (great CD by the way) and it happened on that one, for example. I tried ripping it multiple times in Apple Lossless, and WAV (always in iTunes) and each and every time it created files where this strange artifact existed at the end of every song. I play the CD I ripped the files from and the artifact is not there. I have several CD's, most of them recent releases over the past five years, that do the exact same thing. Otherwise everything else functions perfectly an the bulk of my 700+ CD library has imported without a hiccup. Is this some kind of anti-piracy technology...or do I simply have some setting off in my itunes preferences (Error-Correction is on, WAV or Apple Lossless is always set to Automatic, have experimented with importing to startup disk and external disk-same results). The artifacts seem to always sound the same too...they never vary, except that they sound different from song-to-song, but the same if say, the first cut is played over again. They are always 2 seconds plus or minus, and always at the end of a cut (the final 2 seconds or so). They do transfer verbatim to my iPod, and also play via iTunes through my stereo.
Anyone have any clues what this might be?

As a follow up, I went to the Genius Bar for a bowl of Mensa Stew, but only got some tepid broth. Here's what transpired:
The girl I was speaking with suggested that the artifact was the software misinterpreting information between the cuts. It was only a theory. She had not heard of any other incidents to relay. First she suggested I rip as MP3's. I explained that wasn't an option for me. She listened to a few cuts on a CD I'd brought with, or rather the ends of the cuts and confirmed there was a problem with the rip. She went through my settings, and asked if I'd tried it with Error Correction turned off. I explained I hadn't and that I preferred to use it. She suggested attempting to rip one of the cuts with it turned off just to see how it did. We did that and no artifact was there. So her 'solution' was to either leave error-correction turned off always, or turn it off for those problem CD's that produce the artifact (I'd estimate about 5% do on my laptop). This did not explain why it was doing it, nor why my g5 tower, which is running a carbon-copied system with all the same iTunes settings, does not produce the artifact with Error-Correction turned on.
I'd be interested to hear of anyone else who's been having problems importing hi-rez files in iTunes. I know of at least one other instance where the artifact produced (on a MacBook) is dis-similar to mine in that it takes the form of brief electronic beeps moving from channel to channel.
    Anyone else?

  • Asset Under Construction(AUC),During month end settlement run(via KO8G)

    Hi Guys ,
please hlep on this AUC :
During month end settlement run (via tcode KO8G), if there are -ve (credit) values to be settled to an Asset Under Construction (AUC) asset which does not have sufficient +ve value in the current FY, the settlement run will prompt an error message "Balance for transaction type group 10 negative for the area 01". The TT posted via the settlement run is TT115. To get around, user has to raise a manual journal (via doc type AT) to post the -ve value to the same AUC asset via TT101. TT 115 and 101 are configured differently (see attached).
Since the Fixed Assets system does accept credit posting to AUC via a journal, is there a solution to make posting go through via the settlement run?
    Regards,
    Narra

You can settle the AUC value in one period and posting can be made in another period. in the same you can give the different asset value date in KO88 screen. The only limitation is this possible only if the fiscal year is same.
Give the asset value date as 15.07.2007 in KO88
    Hope this will work

By running a month end payment batch, you may arrange a payment for as many due invoices as possible."
Has the process been renamed in 11.5.10.2?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
There is no any specific concurrent request to run payment batch or there is no renaming of any process within this version.
You are actually required to follow a series of steps to create your payment batch. You initiate each step from the Payment Batch Actions window, or, for payment batch sets, from the Submit Batch Set window. You can also schedule payment batch sets to automatically submit at regular intervals.
Major steps that are required to create payment batches:
1 Initiate the payment batch by entering criteria for invoices you want to pay. Payables selects invoices and builds the payments; it determines which invoices will be paid on each payment document and lists this information for you on the Preliminary Payment Register.
At any time before formatting, you can optionally modify the payment batch. You can prevent payment to a supplier, prevent payment of a particular invoice, change the invoice amount, or add an invoice that Payables did not originally select.
2 Format payments to have Payables produce an output file.
3 Print checks from the output file, create electronic payments, or deliver the output file to your bank to disburse electronic payments.
4 Confirm the payment batch by recording the document numbers associated with each payment. During this step Payables updates the invoice status to paid and associates a payment number with the invoice and invoice payment. Do not send checks to suppliers before confirming the payment batch.
Payables creates a Final Payment Register which you can review to verify the completed payment batch.
After confirming the payment batch, you can review the Payment Batch Control Report to verify the accounting of the invoices you paid. You can submit this report after every payment batch to compare it with actual payment information. You can also use this report to provide your check signer with comprehensive information about each payment document, eliminating the need to review paper invoices. The
report displays payment, supplier, invoice, and expense information.
You can check the status of a payment batch at any time during the payment batch process by checking the Status field in the Payment Batches window. You can also check the status of payment processes in the Requests window...
