  • Upon startup Firefox says "Proxy is refusing connections." When I select "Auto-Detect Proxy" from Advanced settings and solve problem, changes are not saved and upon next startup I must select again...!

Firefox 4 was working fine. Then one day, when I started up Firefox, it says "Proxy is refusing connections." I solved this by selecting "Auto-Detect Proxy" from Advanced network settings, but my changes are not saved and upon every start-up I must select it again! (I even completely removed my webroot antivirus protection, as it as hindering many proxy related programs, but this seems to not be the source of the problem)

You can find the connection settings in Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection
If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select "No Proxy"
    See "Firefox connection settings":

  • Trying to setup a group policy to force auto detect proxy setting on multiple machines on our network

We have the proxy configured on our computers to use a pac file, now we need to remove the pac and set it to auto detect proxy on our network. Do you have a adm file that works with 7.0.1 or another way to push this out on multiple pc's.

You can use a mozilla.cfg file in the Firefox program folder to lock prefs or specify new (default) values.
Place a file local-settings.js in the defaults\pref folder where you also find the file channel-prefs.js to specify using mozilla.cfg.
    pref("general.config.filename", "mozilla.cfg");
    pref("general.config.obscure_value", 0); // use this to disable the byte-shift
    See:
You can use these functions in mozilla.cfg:
defaultPref(); // set new default value
pref(); // set pref, but allow changes in current session
lockPref(); // lock pref, disallow changes

    Hello Richard,
Download MozBackup and make a backup of your bookmarks and passwords. Uninstall firefox and remove ALL folders with the name "Firefox".
Install Firefox and restore your bookmarks and passwords. Now you should have a fresh install so you have to make all settings again.

  • My Firefox always changes Network settings to 'Use Manual Proxy' after every PC restart, even if I change the option to No Proxy/Auto detect proxy.

My Firefox 4 always changes the Network settings to '''Manual Proxy Configuration''' after every PC restart. I have to always go to connections and change this setting to '''No Proxy''' or '''Auto Detect Proxy Settings for this network'''.
I also tried to revert the values back to default values by using about:config and changing modified values back to default. But it still doesn't works out.
    Kindly help.
    Thank you.

I had this too, I tried running Firefox in safe mode (no add ons) - that didn't make any difference. I could save other preferences, just not the proxy setting. I'm 99.99% sure I didn't have a virus or other malware. This was only affecting Firefox, no other browser I has installed.
In the end I created a new profile - http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing%20profiles - that seems to have 'fixed' it for me - the new profile doesn't have the problem, but the old one still does.
    Windows 7, Firefox 4.01.

  • Why Does It Take So Long To Detect Proxy Settings?

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with all patches
Internet Explorer 10 with all patches
The first time I start Internet Explorer after booting it takes a very long time (>30 seconds) to detect proxy settings.  There is nothing else running on this machine.  I have this problem if IE is the first thing I open after booting.
Why does it take so long and how can I speed this up?

  • With automatic proxy discovery autoupdate dose not detect proxy and fails

When automatic proxy detection is used (for example in corporate network environment) FireFox correctly detects internet proxy server. Autoupdate feature fails as it does not detect the proxy and tries direct internet connection.

    Hi,
    Sorry for the late response.
Since the issue is complex and difficulty to troublshooting, we discussed for some time corssing the specialty. Here is some direction we may let you know to do further troubleshooting:
capture network trace to confirm whats happening across the wire.
confirm the wpad.dat is the expected.
If you have any difficulty when doing this, we suggest you to contact with IT Pro Support via the link below:

I think it can help you define the root cause via some deeper tools due to the complicated symptom you have.
I appreciate your understanding and time.

  • My auto-detect proxy keeps resetting to manual which won't allow me to access the web

Frequently when I click to refresh a page or open an new page I get this message:
"The proxy server is refusing connections
Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections.
    * Check the proxy settings to make sure that they are correct.
    * Contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working."
Tools>Options>Advanced>Configure how firefox connects to the internet Settings> will show that once again, the browser changed itself from auto detect to manual. I change it back to auto-detect and hit save, sometimes it works right away, sometimes I have to do it 3-4x in a row in order for the change to "stick"

    Hi
    there's a location services checkbox in Safari-Preferences-Security
    and one in System Preferences-Security-General
However, many websites look at the country location of the isp connection you're using, which is a different matter, & not in control of the user. Some sites allow choosing a personal language/location setting, stored in a cookie.

  • Video times out on hosted website with Auto-detect proxy settings enabled

When going to our companies website our EMBEDDED youtube videos on the site fail to load while on our physical network (using proxy Auto-detect). The video works fine while on the wireless, or using Internet Explorer (w/autodetect).
However, if you manually enter the youtube links in the browser, the video works fine.
When the Firefox proxy is set to manual - the site and video works just fine.
When the IE proxy is set to autodetect - the video works just fine.
I used wireshark to figure out what is going on. The when clicking the video it tries to go straight out (not using the proxy) when it should actually use the proxy.
Our company cannot view our videos on our own network using this browser - PLEASE fix auto-detect bug.
    MORE INFO:
    - We have a Dansguardian/Squid proxy setup - non-transparent.
    - We use WPAD file
Please let me know how we can resolve this issue without coding our videos to pop out into a new window (ruins the look and feel of the site).

  • How do "Auto-detect proxy settings for this network" and "Use system proxy settings" work behind the scenes?

How can I see what the proxy firefox actually uses when I check either of these two options?
Does it take it from Internet Explorer?
Are they stored somewhere in the registry?

    Hi conectionist,
This is taken if there is a proxy set up in your network settings on your OS. If you would like to test there may be an add on:
